- Chapter 49 - Ambushed by a Scoundrel
An Wenqing was puzzled. Why had the initially noisy crowd suddenly fallen silent?
She looked up and saw a bright, beautiful face. The person’s eyes held curiosity as she surveyed the grand manor.
She wore little makeup, appearing pure, fresh, and elegant—enough to instantly ignite the darkest fires of jealousy in people’s hearts.
Song Qingxing! It was her again!
Jealousy felt as though it would tear her heart and lungs to shreds, but this time, An Wenqing had learned her lesson. If she were to rush up and confront the person now, she would only look like the fool.
Xie Jingcheng naturally noticed the group of people staring at her, but she said nothing, merely glancing over. In an instant, those people dared not look any further.
“Apologies, I have quite a few relatives.”
Song Qingxing glanced around, seeing a densely packed crowd of people sitting on chairs. Every single one of them was relatively good-looking, neither cowardly nor ugly.
“I understand. It’s a big family, after all…”
Song Qingxing simply smiled and nodded. It was quite normal for a great family tree, one that had been passed down for nearly a thousand years, to have deep roots, lush branches, and numerous descendants.
“I’ll take you back to my room. Don’t worry about these people. After we attend the ball and see Grandma, we can go back to filming.”
Despite her privileged background, Xie Jingcheng did not like the atmosphere here at all. There were too much scheming and too much chaos.
The two walked past the green lawn and continued forward. The first thing that came into view was a grove of black pines. The trees were uniquely shaped and clearly expensive; they must have cost at least hundreds of thousands of yuan each.
Truly, the wealthy were something else. Such costly bonsai trees were planted right outside the house as if they were nothing.
Xie Jingcheng’s room was on the second floor. After ascending the grand spiral staircase and opening the heavy mahogany door, they were greeted by a spacious room.
The room was elegantly decorated, even featuring fresh flowers. It was obvious they had been prepared specifically for the occasion.
“My dear, can I go to sleep now?”
Song Qingxing had been drowsy on the plane ride. Although she was on a private jet and the seats could recline, it was still no match for the comfort of a soft bed.
“Wash up first, then sleep.”
Xie Jingcheng just smiled and nodded, seeming quite pleased with Song Qingxing’s affectionate address. She got up to find her some clothes.
Little did she know, the people outside were brewing a malicious little plot intended to upset her.
As night deepened, the initial party was nearly over. Everyone, with tipsy steps, made their way back to their rooms across the soft grass.
But in one corner, the lights remained on. Several people were gathered together, one of them clutching his nose, looking quite miserable.
“Xie Anyuan, your nose injury still hasn’t healed? It’s been so long.”
One of them couldn’t help but laugh, and the others joined in, chuckling loudly. However, Xie Anyuan could not muster a smile.
The source of the injury to his nose was simple. He had taken a liking to a beautiful young actress in the entertainment industry, but she had a certain level of status and family background.
She refused to submit to him, so he resorted to coercion and temptation. Who knew she would pull a cruel move, reporting the incident directly to Xie Jingcheng?
It was said that the woman brought a basketful of gifts and began weeping as soon as she saw Xie Jingcheng. Her tear-streaked face and trembling body were enough to move anyone to pity.
Upon hearing the news, Xie Jingcheng flew back the same day. The moment she saw him, she delivered a hard slap. One slap wasn’t enough to satisfy her, so she followed up with a punch.
That blow fractured his nasal bridge, requiring several stitches. But even though he cried like a fountain in the hospital, Xie Jingcheng faced no consequences. It was useless even if he asked his parents to intervene, because her father was the true head of the Xie Group. They were, at best, minor shareholders.
Furthermore, because of this incident, his parents were reprimanded by Xie Jingcheng’s father, and several of his bank cards were frozen.
All the women he kept around instantly scattered.
Xie Anyuan took a gulp of liquor, his face turning crimson, just as it had when he was struck, splattered with blood all over his face and mouth.
“You still have the nerve to bring it up? My nasal bridge is fractured! Do you think it can heal instantly?”
“That damn Xie Jingcheng said that for us, the Xie family’s younger generation, playing this game of keeping mistresses is a sign of demoralization. So what is she doing? She’s keeping a top-tier A-list female celebrity!”
“Damn it, I wouldn’t even dare to play that big!”
“She’s a hypocrite! Playing double standards!”
The people around him paused at his furious ranting but then nodded in agreement.
Xie Anyuan was absolutely right. Xie Jingcheng was shamelessly hypocritical. She forbade others from messing around, yet she picked the biggest target for herself.
“I say, we should mess with her today and make her miserable.”
One person raised his wine glass and gently swirled the contents. He was famous among the group for his cunning ideas and his belly full of mischief.
“How do we mess with her?”
The others eagerly crowded around, their faces full of curiosity.
“Naturally, we target the lover she cherishes most.”
The man had a cunning, fox-like smile and an air of absolute certainty, as he raised his eyebrows at Xie Anyuan.
“Xie Anyuan, what do you think is the most disgusting thing in the world?”
Xie Anyuan lowered his head, contemplating. He wasn’t particularly ugly, as the Xie family’s genes weren’t poor.
“It’s when the woman you love is defiled. That would be more painful than killing me.”
Xie Anyuan was exactly like that: he couldn’t control his own desires, wanting to date seventeen or eighteen girlfriends at once, yet he couldn’t tolerate his girlfriend engaging in flirtatious behavior with anyone else.
“I believe we all agree on that,” the man said.
The others nodded in unison, clearly approving of the plan.
“As far as I know, although Song Qingxing has no scandalous news, she does have a few ambiguous relationships.”
Those people were the male actors Song Qingxing had worked with. To ensure the TV series attracted more viewers, Song Qingxing occasionally had to participate in promotional events.
Since they were romance dramas, promotions always involved the male lead, hence the few ambiguous comments.
As the saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire.
They all knew what a petty, easily provoked person Xie Jingcheng was. If they played this card correctly, they could absolutely stab her right in the heart.
“Tch, are you talking about those few male actors as her ‘ambiguous partners’? That doesn’t have much impact.”
One of them scoffed dismissively.
“Don’t you understand Xie Jingcheng?”
“Don’t be fooled by her outwardly respectable appearance; underneath, she’s a complete control freak. She won’t allow anyone to touch what belongs to her. She’s a germaphobe.”
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone exchanged glances. Xie Anyuan was the first to stand up, his eyes gleaming.
“Excellent! I can finally avenge my broken nose. Thank you all!”
He said this and immediately pulled out his phone. Song Qingxing had acted with quite a few male leads. He only needed to pick one she had recently partnered with in the last two years.
That would definitely infuriate Xie Jingcheng, making her so mad her face turned grotesque and smoke came out of her ears!
Hahahaha, it was finally his turn to get even!
