- Chapter 30 - One-on-One Tutoring with the Movie Queen
The ginger tea cup only held half a glass; Xie Jingcheng was mindful that drinking too much before bed was not good.
Seeing the other party’s enthusiasm, Song Qingxing couldn’t just stand there awkwardly. She took a step forward and walked up to Xie Jingcheng.
“Thank you.”
She said, a little shyly.
Then she reached out for the white porcelain cup. The tea cup was not as hot as Song Qingxing expected; it was a very comfortable warmth, soothing her palm.
Taking a sip of the ginger tea, the sweet and slightly spicy taste spread throughout her mouth. Song Qingxing’s body was no longer cold; she felt a warm glow spreading through her internal organs.
After finishing the tea, Song Qingxing returned to her own room. Xie Jingcheng didn’t bother her, feeling that the time they spent together today was enough.
Haste makes waste; everything should be taken slowly to gently win over the other person’s heart.
For reasons unknown, perhaps because of a sense of security, Song Qingxing slept straight until dawn. The curtains blocked out all the sunlight, keeping the room dark and completely undisturbed.
So, she slept even more soundly.
It wasn’t until the phone rang in her ear that Song Qingxing reluctantly answered the call. After seeing who the caller was, she immediately put on a smiling face—a change of expression comparable to a Sichuan opera mask change.
“Mom, why are you calling me?”
On the other end of the phone, there was the sound of rushing traffic. Her mother didn’t seem to be at the hospital but on a crowded street.
“Daughter, I saw online that people are saying you’re dating. Why didn’t you tell your mother?”
Who knew her old mother would drop a bombshell as soon as she opened her mouth? Song Qingxing’s breathing stopped for a moment, and her speech became incoherent. She wasn’t good at lying, so of course, she didn’t know how to deceive her mother.
“I was afraid you wouldn’t agree.”
Song Qingxing explained in a rush, almost tripping over her own tongue because of the speed.
“I kept introducing so many handsome young men to you before, and you didn’t like any of them. Turns out you like pretty girls.”
Her mother spoke with a rather profound implication, but she also knew that her daughter was the biggest earner in the family now, and her opposition would be useless, so she could only choose to accept everything.
This was the difference between having economic power and not having it.
The annual dividends Song Qingxing received from her company’s New Year bonuses were substantial. The pillar of this family was no longer her father, but her.
So, her parents spoke with a hint of humility and flattery. Song Qingxing felt a little heartache, but more helplessness.
Because who she liked was sometimes not something she could decide.
Although love is beautiful, relying only on love can’t even sustain oneself.
Therefore, Song Qingxing gave up the probability of meeting someone she would genuinely like in the future and wholeheartedly threw herself into the gilded cage Xie Jingcheng meticulously crafted for her.
Even though there were some bitterness and sorrow in her heart, Song Qingxing still had to interrupt her mother.
“Mom, the people you introduced to me weren’t handsome at all!”
“What kind of handsome guys are those with that kind of appearance!”
Although she had no feelings for men, she could at least distinguish between good-looking and not good-looking.
After arguing with her mother for a while, Song Qingxing finally hung up the phone. She focused on the time and saw that it was almost ten o’clock.
Song Qingxing immediately shot up from the bed like a rocket launching into the sky.
She was doomed!
She had promised to practice her acting today. How could she forget this excellent opportunity to act opposite a Movie Queen, and in a private, one-on-one setting?
What if Xie Jingcheng had work to do and had already left? Wouldn’t she have wasted this perfect chance?
Because of her anxiety, Song Qingxing washed up and dressed incredibly fast. However, there was no need for heavy makeup or fashionable clothes in the apartment.
Song Qingxing simply wore a T-shirt and slipped her feet into the grey cotton slippers Xie Jingcheng had prepared. She didn’t know what material the soles of these slippers were made of, but they had a soft, “stepping on cotton” feel, extremely comfortable and easy on the feet.
As soon as she opened the door, Song Qingxing anxiously scanned the living room, hoping the person hadn’t gone too far, or better yet, hadn’t left at all.
Just as she opened the door, she saw Xie Jingcheng sitting on the sofa, legs crossed, holding a script, reading and scrutinizing it carefully.
Her expression was serious, a posture almost comparable to Song Qingxing’s earnest reading during her initial years of high school when she was obsessed with novels.
Xie Jingcheng had a pen clipped in her hand, and her slender fingers occasionally twirled the pen before writing down her thoughts on a blank page.
A Movie Queen is indeed a Movie Queen; she was so diligent even when helping someone else with their lines, practically doing a reading comprehension exercise.
Hearing the door open, Xie Jingcheng adjusted the glasses on the bridge of her nose, her eyes filled with a smile.
“Awake?”
“I’ve almost finished reading the script. I hope I won’t delay you.”
Xie Jingcheng closed the script. She was wearing a white loungewear set today, revealing a swan-like neck, and further down, a heaving chest.
Well…
It would be impolite to stare any longer. As a fellow woman, how could Song Qingxing not understand this?
If someone stared at her for a long time, she would probably feel uncomfortable.
Soon after being reborn, Song Qingxing had already been in contact with the web drama’s director, aiming to be fully prepared.
Therefore, she had seen and understood the early plot. She could even perfectly portray several scenes where the female leads experienced major emotional breakdowns.
“Thank you for the trouble. Actually, you just need to act the scene with me; you don’t need to be this serious, it’s not like you’re working.”
Song Qingxing’s face was flushed, feeling a little embarrassed.
“It’s nothing. If I promised you, I should deliver.”
Xie Jingcheng looked serious, focusing on Song Qingxing as she walked towards her. She adjusted her glasses.
And instantly switched into the role.
The male lead in the book is a top student. That’s right, unlike typical campus dramas where the male lead is often a delinquent, this male lead is a bit different.
But to Xie Jingcheng, it was all pretty much the same.
A bad person has their own charisma, and an excellent person has their own charisma.
The key is how the actor portrays it.
“Why are you so late today?”
“Don’t you know I’m supposed to tutor you on your studies?”
The voice was slightly cool, like the sound of porcelain cracking when a superior piece is removed from the kiln.
It made one’s ears feel soft. Even if the male lead in the book’s voice were gentle, it probably wouldn’t be a fraction as pleasant as Xie Jingcheng’s.
Her fans once said that even if Xie Jingcheng weren’t an actress, she could shine in other industries and reach the top.
Song Qingxing now completely believed it. If this voice were used to charm young girls, who wouldn’t be smitten?
“I’m sorry, there was a traffic jam.”
Song Qingxing’s reply was a bit stuttering.
But it accurately reflected the female lead’s internal panic at the time.
