- Chapter 14 - Cohabitation in Progress
A serious person always carries a certain charm, and when that person is beautiful, the charm multiplies infinitely, captivating the soul.
Xie Jingcheng watched Song Qingxing intently, observing her slender fingertips flitting about like a dancing butterfly.
She patiently finished changing the dressing for her.
The burn wasn’t terribly serious, and Xie Jingcheng planned to be discharged tomorrow, ensuring the filming schedule wouldn’t be delayed too much.
Anyway, most of her scenes were already finished; she just needed to occasionally help Song Qingxing rehearse.
“After you finish this movie, what are your plans?”
Xie Jingcheng reached out, her fingertips gently cupping Song Qingxing’s chin, not forgetting to fulfill her duty as the benefactor even at this moment.
What to do?
She was starting to feel less limited to just kissing her.
But recalling the confident words she had spoken earlier, Xie Jingcheng wished she could slap herself twice.
Xie Jingcheng… Xie Jingcheng.
Are you a masochist?
Seeing that her personality was gentle and easy to bully, you want to push your luck.
Despite the turbulence in her heart, Xie Jingcheng’s expression remained unchanged. An acclaimed actress is an acclaimed actress for a reason; she can conceal her emotions so well that not only the audience can’t tell, but sometimes even she herself can’t.
“I want to act in a web series.”
Song Qingxing wiped her fingers with a wet tissue. She inevitably got some ointment on them while applying the medicine, and her body was permeated with the strong smell of medicine, so she naturally had to wipe them clean.
“Why? With your status, I wouldn’t think you’d want to act in a web series?”
Xie Jingcheng never acted in web series because it was perceived as beneath her dignity. Of course, she didn’t care about that; she acted in the dramas she genuinely liked.
“Don’t look down on web series so much. It’s 2024 now. How many young people watch dramas on a TV set?”
Only movies still have the support of cinemas, but the number of people who purely go to watch movies is decreasing. Most are couples or people looking to relax.
That’s why popcorn and family-friendly movies are becoming more popular.
Xie Jingcheng subconsciously wanted to cross her arms, but realizing one of her arms was burned, she had to let go.
“This isn’t like you.”
“I remember before, your temper was like an ‘Angry Bird’.”
Xie Jingcheng’s memory was a bit hazy, but she definitely remembered that person’s high-spirited and distinct personality, which was even more high-profile than her own.
Upon hearing this, Song Qingxing frowned slightly.
Angry Bird? What did Xie Jingcheng take her for?
But she still offered an explanation: “People change.”
Song Qingxing offered a casual platitude.
“Fine, what web series do you want to act in?”
Xie Jingcheng picked up her phone.
“I’ll arrange it for you. Also, pack up your apartment in Shanghai and move into mine.”
Song Qingxing immediately became wary. Didn’t they agree their relationship was only “lip-service friendship”? Why the sudden desire to live together?
But no matter what, she had no choice but to escape; she was already on a runaway train and could only see it through to the end.
It was absolutely impossible for Song Qingxing to return to the life of a super-obscure eighteenth-tier celebrity.
“Green Lemon is Sour.”
Song Qingxing carefully recalled the drama she wanted to star in. The first half was a campus setting, with only some ambiguity between the male and female leads.
So, there shouldn’t be much of an issue.
The second half only discussed their professional lives and the process of their reunion.
It could be considered a drama with a ‘bad end’ (BE) script.
The fact that it’s a BE makes it more memorable; happy endings are less so.
“A campus drama?”
Xie Jingcheng tilted her head, closing her eyes. Song Qingxing in a blue and white school uniform appeared before her.
Her black ponytail swayed with her movements.
It seemed quite good.
“Campus dramas always have a stable audience. Filming one won’t result in a loss.”
Xie Jingcheng turned off her phone and lay back on the soft hospital pillows, her eyes gentle, completely different from the cold gaze in the magazines.
“Song Qingxing, you don’t need to save money for me.”
As a member of her family, Xie Jingcheng received dividends from the family’s shares at the age of eighteen, but she wasn’t a big spender.
Compared to her cousins and older relatives.
Xie Jingcheng didn’t buy a pile of luxury cars to fill an entire garage. She only spent a little money on her hobbies, such as renting out an entire apartment building.
The ground floor of the apartment building was leased out at an ultra-low rent to pet hospitals willing to low-cost rescue stray cats and dogs.
“I’m not saving money for you; I genuinely want to act in this drama.”
Song Qingxing’s tone was serious. She had been feeling a bit drowsy, but the cool breeze on the balcony just now had made her much more alert.
“As for the cohabitation you mentioned…”
Song Qingxing hesitated for a moment but asked anyway. Although she felt it might be impolite, she needed to know how Xie Jingcheng viewed her: was it just limited to kissing, or did it involve sleeping together?
“I can move in, but, Xie Jingcheng, didn’t you say you’d be the one losing out by sleeping with me?”
“Why the change of heart now?”
“Have you finally tasted my charm?”
If anyone else said something so shameless, it would probably just be banter, but coming from Song Qingxing’s beautiful face.
It was definitely not banter.
It was a statement of fact.
“No, I just think you’re pretty and want to see you every day.”
However, even at this moment, a certain acclaimed actress was still stubborn, unwilling to admit the gradually rising base desires in her mind.
“Alright, well, living anywhere is still living.”
Song Qingxing had bought a house after becoming famous, but that luxurious house was also sold at a low price along with her rapidly declining popularity.
If she had sold it a few years earlier, before housing prices plummeted, she might have even made a profit.
Song Qingxing thought this way.
A few years from now, when Xie Jingcheng got tired of her, she could buy a house when prices had dropped. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?
“Where is your home?”
No paparazzi dared to follow Xie Jingcheng, so Song Qingxing didn’t know her residential address.
“I’ll have the driver pick you up. As for the address, you’ll know once you go there.”
…
The movie only had its final scenes left. Song Qingxing had been acting very hard these past few days, leaving her body sore and aching.
But seeing her rapid improvement in acting skills during the later stages, she couldn’t help but laugh happily.
Especially since she had even asked the director to reshoot a few scenes of the disaster site.
It wasn’t too late now; getting back on track was the most important thing. It was just a pity she hadn’t been reborn back to the time when the filming of this movie had just begun.
Otherwise, she could have honed her skills even more.
Along with the completion of the TV series, the truth behind the coffee-splashing incident was revealed. The text messages Peng Zhien sent to that woman were also published.
However, Xie Jingcheng and Song Qingxing faced a dilemma.
If Peng Zhien’s scandal was exposed, the movie would inevitably be affected.
If they were to reshoot, their schedules were too tight, making it impossible.
So, this matter could only be suppressed for now.
However, Xie Jingcheng wasn’t someone to be easily bullied. She would find a way to slowly torment this person, but the prerequisite was waiting until the movie’s screening period was over.
Otherwise, the efforts of Song Qingxing and Xie Jingcheng would all be in vain.
