- Chapter 109 - The Terrifying Sasaeng Fan
The next day at dawn, Song Qingxing felt her body was sore and weak, but it wasn’t particularly painful because Xie Jingcheng hadn’t overindulged.
He had stopped almost exactly when the clock struck midnight. After finding a towel to wipe their bodies clean, the two of them quickly drifted back into dreamland.
Perhaps due to excessive exhaustion, they both slept soundly until broad daylight once again.
However, compared to the previous occasion when they nearly ran late, Xie Jingcheng had set an alarm this time. As the “beep-beep” of the alarm rang in their ears, both of them opened their eyes.
“Time to go film…”
Song Qingxing rubbed her messy hair. Once her bleary eyes adjusted to the light, she scanned her surroundings. The curtains emitted a hazy glow; it seemed the day was indeed getting late.
Although she desperately wanted to rest, she told herself that resting… would have to wait until after retirement.
It wasn’t good to rely solely on Xie Jingcheng. That would make her a spineless dodder flower—rootless and knowing only how to live as a parasite.
“Then why aren’t you getting up yet?”
Xie Jingcheng tossed a piece of clothing over. It was a lightweight shirt, breathable and comfortable for summer wear, preventing sweat from feeling trapped.
Song Qingxing’s eyes were still dazed as she dressed. When she got out of bed, her legs felt a bit weak. She reached out to steady herself against the edge of the bed, narrowly avoiding falling flat on her backside.
“What’s wrong?”
Xie Jingcheng turned around upon hearing the noise and saw the scene. Although he really wanted to laugh, he held it back.
“It’s all your doing,” the little rabbit complained. She slowly stood up, pounded her lower back, and headed to the washroom to freshen up.
By the time they arrived at the set, the sun was shining brightly. Many crew members were still eating breakfast, their mouths stuffed with two or three steamed buns.
Xie Jingcheng had already eaten. He didn’t have any particular thoughts regarding the greasy working meals of the film crew.
Today was different from yesterday; her scenes were mainly in the morning, so she went to the makeup room first.
Because they were both filming pick-up shots for scenes involving Peng Zhi’en, they were separated. They didn’t have many scenes or frames acting together.
If they had to reshoot everything from scratch, it would take over half a year. No one could afford that kind of delay; the director and cinematographers all had their own schedules.
Song Qingxing snuggled into a chair, the script resting on her lap as she flipped through it earnestly. Before she knew it, noon was approaching, and her stomach began to growl loudly.
As expected, not eating much in the morning meant she would be famished soon, Song Qingxing thought with a sigh.
“Qingxing, you’re hungry, aren’t you? I’ll go buy you something to eat.”
As an assistant, Yu Zhi felt this was the moment to step up; otherwise, all those wages and bonuses would be for nothing.
She would just buy something simple to curb the hunger. There was no choice—that was the life of a celebrity; one had to maintain their figure at all times.
Yu Zhi stood up and left the set. Song Qingxing felt a small wave of loneliness. No one dared to approach her; the crew members kept a significant distance.
It was likely because they were afraid of Xie Jingcheng.
Song Qingxing couldn’t help but shake her head with a smile. But after sitting for a while, she felt the urge to use the restroom. Nature’s call was something that could not be ignored.
Closing her script, she slowly made her way to the bathroom. To be honest, while the restrooms at the film base were maintained, the cleaning wasn’t particularly frequent.
However, it was different when Xie Jingcheng was around.
There were always dedicated people handling these things. The toilets were exceptionally clean and even had incense burning.
After finishing, Song Qingxing hummed a tune while pumping some hand soap, patiently scrubbing her fingers. But at that moment, footsteps echoed from the entrance—tap, tap, tap—very rhythmic.
Song Qingxing didn’t pay it much mind. She assumed it was just someone else using the facilities, even though this film base was in the middle of nowhere, desolate and remote.
The crew was large, and there were often multiple crews or web drama teams filming nearby.
But in the next instant, Song Qingxing looked up and saw a man’s face in the mirror.
The man wasn’t very tall, but he was somewhat stocky. His eyes held a look of obsession, and in his hand, he was actually clutching a knife.
“Song Qingxing, I finally found you.”
His voice betrayed excitement, but even more so, a sense of madness. Song Qingxing had seen this look before; it was a gaze she would never forget in her life.
It was the look of a sasaeng fan—the kind that had followed her to hotels back when she was an idol.
In a flash, a chilling sensation crept up her spine. Even having lived a second life, she was still terrified of people like this.
When she was an idol, dating was strictly forbidden because many fans viewed you as their imaginary romantic partner.
While most people have a rational mind and can distinguish between fantasy and reality, some cannot. They get into character, and they get in very deep.
Although she was an actress now, she hadn’t transitioned for very long, so her fanbase still consisted mostly of those from her idol days.
They were dissatisfied with her current actions—specifically, her blatant public relationship with Xie Jingcheng.
When she hadn’t gone public, the sasaeng fan could still lie to himself. But once it was out in the open and the whole world knew, he could no longer maintain the delusion.
“What do you want?”
The bathroom was in a remote spot. After all, it was a restroom; it would inevitably have some odors, so it couldn’t be placed in a highly visible area, or people would be uncomfortable walking past it.
At this moment, no one was passing by outside.
Song Qingxing took a few steps back, nearly touching the cold tiles. But because she always felt bathroom tiles were dirty, she still kept a bit of distance.
In her mind, she was desperately looking for an escape route.
Then she realized with a sinking heart that there was no way out. The bathroom was small, the hallway was narrow, and this man was blocking almost the entire passage.
“What do I want? Don’t you know? You betrayed my love!”
The knife in the man’s hand gleamed coldly.
Clearly, the man had reached the point of becoming “angry out of shame.” If that blade were thrust into her and hit an artery, she would likely die in moments.
Fear flooded Song Qingxing’s heart. She had just been reborn; she didn’t want to go through this.
Usually, Yu Zhi would stay by her side, but today she had gone to buy food. Perhaps moving around alone really was a bad idea.
Song Qingxing looked at the man in front of her. Since she couldn’t hide, she could only try to talk her way out.
“I think you should understand that I am no longer an idol. Therefore, I have the right to love freely.”
Song Qingxing’s voice was gentle, trying her best not to trigger the man’s impulses, while silently praying that Yu Zhi would return or someone else would enter.
“No, you don’t!”
“You should live according to my expectations, not mess around with someone like Xie Jingcheng.”
“Song Qingxing, will you stay with anyone as long as they have money?”
“Then I’ll give you money, too!”
With that, he unzipped a fanny pack. It was stuffed full of a large bundle of paper, but it was all hell money (joss paper).
