- Chapter 106 - Endurance is Also a Manifestation of Love
Despite thinking this way, there was no time for it once the acting began. Song Qingxing never found the right opportunity until they finished work for the evening.
The last rays of the setting sun spilled across the earth, stretching the shadows of the crew members into long silhouettes.
The two of them got into the nanny van, and the driver started the engine.
Song Qingxing looked at Xie Jingcheng. Even though the other woman showed no signs of abnormality and maintained a natural expression, Song Qingxing knew that once a thorn like that was planted, it wouldn’t disappear in a short amount of time.
“Are you bothered by what happened during the day?”
Song Qingxing took a deep breath, gathered her courage, and proactively placed her hand on the back of Xie Jingcheng’s hand, her fingertips brushing against the delicate skin.
She found the gaps between the other’s fingers and gently slid hers in, interlocking their fingers.
Sensing that burning heat pressed tightly against the back of her hand, Xie Jingcheng looked up at the woman in front of her. Song Qingxing’s eyes were lowered, filled with tenderness, seemingly doing her utmost to patiently coax her.
“I’m not particularly bothered. Didn’t I tell you? I can adjust to these things on my own.”
Xie Jingcheng turned her head to stare at Song Qingxing, but she did not pull her hand away. Instead, she allowed her to keep their fingers locked. The sensation was quite novel.
“I don’t believe you.”
In the next moment, Song Qingxing leaned closer, until her face was almost pressed against Xie Jingcheng’s cheek.
“Xie Jingcheng, although your acting is excellent, you should also understand that when people encounter something agitating, they can’t hide it.”
Her black eyes trembled slightly, and her thick, curled eyelashes flickered. Song Qingxing gazed at the person before her. Their eyes met. If she acted perfectly composed right now, she could probably get away with a stubborn denial.
However, Xie Jingcheng unexpectedly closed her eyes.
“Do you think I’m being petty?”
“Generally speaking, as a partner, one should be understanding of their companion’s work. Although Li Hai has some ulterior motives, he hasn’t done anything I can find fault with.”
Xie Jingcheng spoke the truth.
“I don’t think that at all.”
“Because I didn’t like what Li Hai did either.”
Song Qingxing nodded.
The two didn’t speak much more until the car pulled up in front of the house. Only then did Song Qingxing let go. As Xie Jingcheng felt the hand that had been holding hers release, a sense of emptiness filled her heart.
But soon, that hand reached back out, clearly intending to pull her out of the car.
Xie Jingcheng smiled silently to herself, remembering how she had first opened the car door for Song Qingxing. She raised her hand, and their palms pressed together once more.
Xie Jingcheng stepped out of the car with her long legs.
She experienced the feeling of being pampered, and her mood was much brighter. Song Qingxing was finally no longer the woman who spent all day saying “I don’t want to fall in love with you.”
She knew how to respond; she knew how to comfort her.
…
Although it was still early, the two of them finished bathing ahead of schedule. There was a large television on the first floor. Song Qingxing had dried her hair and curled herself up on the sofa.
“What do you want to watch?”
She asked Xie Jingcheng as the latter walked out of the bathroom. It seemed she had only lightly dried her hair, as the ends still held a damp moisture.
“Whatever you like.”
A fruit plate sat on the table. The apples had been peeled and cut into several pieces, their shapes somewhat irregular. A normal apple would have been much larger than these.
These looked more like slices from a mini-apple.
“Did you do this?”
Xie Jingcheng looked at the toothpicks stuck into the apples, feeling somewhat surprised. Although she employed an hourly domestic worker for this house, the person didn’t come often.
Xie Jingcheng wanted privacy when the two of them were alone; this was for the best.
“If it wasn’t me, was it a ghost?”
Song Qingxing was somewhat speechless. After all, she had originally bought this fruit to coax Xie Jingcheng, only to find that the other woman truly had no hobbies—one could say she was virtually flawless.
So, the fruit had just been sitting in the fridge; she couldn’t eat too much of it herself in a day anyway.
But since filming finished early today, cutting a plate to eat while watching TV was a pleasant treat.
It was just that she hadn’t done this kind of work in a while, so her skills were rusty. When peeling the apple, she had been slow and accidentally showed off some “Dubai swordplay” (excessive trimming).
That was why these mini-apple chunks existed.
“Want to try some? I peeled them specifically for you.”
Song Qingxing grew spirited. She dropped the remote and propped herself up on the sofa with one hand, her fingers sinking into the plush fabric.
She held a piece of apple, her fingers gripping the toothpick, and moved it toward Xie Jingcheng’s lips.
With a personal feeding from a beauty, how could she not taste it?
Although Xie Jingcheng didn’t care for apples, she very much liked the way Song Qingxing looked when she was “fawning” over her to feed her. So, she opened her mouth and bit into the crisp apple slice.
Sweet juice spread through her mouth. She had never thought an apple could taste this good—likely because someone had peeled off the skin and then personally fed it to her.
“See, you like it quite a bit.”
Who was it that said they didn’t really like fruit?
Song Qingxing couldn’t help but think this to herself. But in the next moment, Xie Jingcheng leaned in, cupping Song Qingxing’s cheeks with her hands.
Those eyes were like the azure sea, or like gemstones unearthed from the depths of a mineral vein—never having seen the world, clear and transparent.
“Qingxing, can I today?”
Can you what…
Song Qingxing was dazed for a moment.
But she immediately understood. At such close range, the requests Xie Jingcheng made were always one of a few things.
To say “no” would be a bit much, wouldn’t it?
After all, even though they had upgraded to a romantic relationship, Song Qingxing felt embarrassed about using her status as a girlfriend to enjoy so many of the other’s resources for free.
Especially since Xie Jingcheng had arranged for her mother to be in a high-end hospital, where her condition had significantly improved.
“If you want to.”
These words were like fireworks blooming in the midnight sky. Xie Jingcheng gave a delighted smile and leaned in completely. What did it feel like to lust after beauty and succeed?
That was exactly how she felt right now.
Warm lips touched the corners of her mouth, and damp hair brushed against her neck as Song Qingxing sank into the soft sofa.
Xie Jingcheng was even more gentle this time. Her nose lightly brushed against Song Qingxing’s bridge, again and again, like a dragonfly skimming the water in a continuous rhythm.
“Wait…”
Song Qingxing suddenly reached out to push against Xie Jingcheng’s shoulders. Despite the reluctance in her heart, Xie Jingcheng stopped and looked down at her.
“What is it?”
If Song Qingxing wanted to stop, she could accept that at any time.
After all, endurance was also a lesson to be practiced.
“The remote is pressing into my waist…”
Song Qingxing reached out to grab it. Her waist hurt from being prodded; she estimated there were already “teeth marks” from the remote on her skin.
She pulled the remote out, and at the same time, the television turned on due to the accidental button press. A golden dragon flashed across the screen accompanied by music.
In the next instant, a gloomy and terrifying ancient castle appeared before their eyes.
A woman with messy hair ran through the house barefoot, with heavy footsteps following behind her as a man carrying an axe chased her.
It was a foreign film.
And it was a damn horror movie!
