Reborn as the Heartless Alpha - Chapter 59
Zhou Zhou thought she had misheard and remained silent for a long time.
Through her blurred vision, Miss Song raised her hand and gently brushed the stray hairs from Zhou Zhou’s forehead. Gradually, she began to relax. Her body felt as if it were floating in a warm ocean of red wine; she was tipsy, yet she maintained a certain level of clarity.
“Miss Song… is what you said true?” Zhou Zhou asked softly.
She was terrified that it was merely Miss Song comforting her in the heat of the moment, terrified that she would take it to heart and develop delusions she should not have.
Song Yi held Zhou Zhou’s hand tightly, lowering her eyes in deep thought.
It was true, but also not true.
Zhou Zhou mistakenly thought she liked someone else, and that “someone else” indeed did not exist. But she truly did have someone she liked, and that person was Zhou Zhou.
Just as Zhou Zhou was about to lose her last shred of hope, Song Yi finally spoke.
“I don’t like anyone else.”
A glimmer of light flickered in Zhou Zhou’s eyes, shimmering through the lingering moisture—clear, bright, and slightly enchanting.
Song Yi turned her head away and swallowed hard. She sat down on the floor, leaning her back against the bed. The only thing that remained unchanged was that she still held Zhou Zhou’s hand firmly.
The air fell back into silence. With her back to Zhou Zhou, Song Yi finally dared to wantonly release her pheromones while greedily absorbing Zhou Zhou’s own. She closed her eyes, sensing her intense red wine-scented pheromones chasing and enveloping the sweet cherry-scented pheromones.
Chasing and entangling.
Like a lingering, desperate embrace.
She knew that when she truly exerted her power, Zhou Zhou would have no way to resist her. But she did not realize that Zhou Zhou did not actually want to resist her at all.
After a long while, Zhou Zhou gradually calmed down.
Song Yi sensed Zhou Zhou sitting up from the bed and stood up from the floor herself. However, she hesitated to let go of Zhou Zhou’s hand, even as Zhou Zhou’s confused gaze fell upon their interlaced fingers.
“Miss Song?” Zhou Zhou looked up at her slightly. The translucent flush on her face had not yet faded, and damp strands of hair clung to her skin. Her eyes held a faint bewilderment.
She looked like an elf, beautiful without realizing it, posing a silent question. She also looked like a “pure-desire” beauty fresh from a hot spring; otherwise, how could she be such a powerful temptation?
Song Yi lowered her gaze to hide her greedy eyes.
“Do you want to take a shower first?” Song Yi heard her own voice ask hoarsely.
“Miss Song… are you thirsty?”
Song Yi’s throat moved slightly as she swallowed several more times, suppressing the urge to kiss Zhou Zhou.
“Yes.” Song Yi released Zhou Zhou’s hand. “Do not move from the room. I will go pour some water.”
Zhou Zhou sat on the bed, dazed, watching Miss Song’s retreating back.
As the door opened and closed, Zhou Zhou began to examine the room. It was minimalist in style; the entire room’s furnishings were white—the walls, the bed, the desk, the chair, and even the low cabinet by the bedside.
Wait? There is one thing that is not.
Zhou Zhou noticed something on the white cabinet that felt out of place: the grey pencil case she had given Miss Song before.
Is this… Miss Song’s bedroom?
Zhou Zhou’s eyes widened in shock.
Although the apartment was not as large as a villa, there should be more than two rooms. Did Miss Song intend to sleep in the same room as her during her heat, just like last time? But last time was only for one night; over the following days, Miss Song had simply released enough pheromones in the room and then left.
They could have handled it the same way this time. Why did Miss Song not do that? Was it because things were too urgent this time?
Song Yi was indeed in a hurry.
After leaving the room, she sprinted to the kitchen at a record pace. She poured herself water while reflecting on whether carrying Zhou Zhou back to her own room was due more to the emergency or her subconscious selfishness.
“Oh my god!” You Xuechu, who was sitting in the living room watching TV, felt like a whirlwind had just passed her by and could not help but exclaim.
It seemed the saying was true: love causes a drastic change in personality.
You Xuechu leaned over to fiddle with the snow-white chess pieces on the table. She figured she might as well spend her life with chess; she could not imagine what she would look like if she actually fell in love.
In the kitchen, Song Yi drank two consecutive glasses of ice water from the refrigerator. The coldness spread from her stomach, a purely physical cooling method. When she went to pour water for Zhou Zhou, she suddenly paused and switched to warm water from the dispenser.
By the time she walked out of the kitchen holding a glass of water, she had regained her composure. You Xuechu looked up from the chessboard.
“How is Zhou Zhou? Is she okay?”
“She is fine.”
“If she is fine, go back quickly. Do not keep her waiting. I have heard Omegas are very clingy to Alphas during their heat. This is a great opportunity; you had better seize it.”
Song Yi replied, “I am going back then.”
You Xuechu waved her hand nonchalantly. “Go on. Do not toss and turn too late. There is an exam tomorrow morning; make sure you can actually get out of bed.”
Song Yi felt that You Xuechu’s words and tone were both very strange.
“I will not.”
You Xuechu suddenly chuckled to herself for no apparent reason. Song Yi thought she might just be overly happy about a thoughtful birthday gift from her parents abroad, so she shook her head and returned to the room.
The moment she pushed the door open, Zhou Zhou, sitting on the bed, immediately looked toward her. Her gaze was direct and filled with attachment.
Song Yi thought with enjoyment: She really is clingy.
It would be wonderful if Zhou Zhou were like this normally, but only in front of her and never in front of anyone else.
“Drink some water.” Song Yi, her mind filled with wandering thoughts, handed the water to the sweet and obedient Zhou Zhou.
Zhou Zhou reached out with both hands to take it. When Song Yi’s hand touched Zhou Zhou’s, her breath hitched. She forced herself to maintain a neutral expression, determined not to let any cracks show.
Internally, she was losing it. She felt that Zhou Zhou’s skin was as soft as a delicate peach; one had to be careful not to use too much force.
After taking the cup, Zhou Zhou continued to hold it with both hands, taking small sips and glancing up at her occasionally. Whether it was the effect of the pheromones or not, she felt like she was about to melt.
“Miss Song, am I sleeping in this room tonight?”
As expected, Zhou Zhou had also thought of this. Song Yi immediately fell into a dilemma. She wanted to say yes, but she feared it would make her look like she had ulterior motives, especially since Zhou Zhou was already a bit afraid of her.
“If there are no extra rooms, I can sleep in the living room,” Zhou Zhou said considerately. She did not want to make things difficult for Miss Song.
“It is not that there are no extra rooms,” Song Yi hesitated. “It is just that they have not been cleaned, and there might not be enough daily necessities.”
“I can sleep on the sofa in the living room. Miss Song, just let me take a shower here first,” Zhou Zhou added.
Song Yi saw that Zhou Zhou was completely thinking of her, whether it was previously refusing the pheromones because of a misunderstanding or now being willing to sleep on the sofa. But how could she let Zhou Zhou sleep on the sofa?
“Stay here, Zhou Zhou,” Song Yi paused. “I mean, we can sleep together. I said earlier that I would accompany you tonight. Besides, the bed is very large. I promise I will not do anything to you. If you are really worried, I will be the one to sleep on the sofa.”
How could Zhou Zhou let Miss Song deign to sleep on the living room sofa? She bit her lip in hesitation. Finally, she tilted her head and said bashfully, “Then let’s sleep together. Miss Song, you know, I trust you.”
Song Yi’s eyes widened in disbelief. She thought that after two instances of almost being kissed by force, Zhou Zhou would only be guarded against her. She had not expected Zhou Zhou to still be willing to trust her. Her heart began to beat like a drum.
“Miss Song, can I shower first?”
Zhou Zhou stood up from the bed, but her legs were weak. She started to collapse to the side, and Song Yi reached out to catch her. Zhou Zhou’s face turned completely red instantly. She covered her face with her hands and stammered an apology. Song Yi’s lips curved into a slight smile, remembering a similar moment before.
“I will carry you over.”
Song Yi carried Zhou Zhou into the bathroom and sat her on the edge of the bathtub. Then she went out to find a pair of waterproof slippers for her. She went to the guest room next door where everything was fully stocked. Thinking of the lie she had just told, Song Yi’s face burned.
When she returned to the bathroom, she saw Zhou Zhou supporting herself with her hands on the bathtub rim. Her long, slender legs were positioned to the side, and her pink toes lightly touched the white porcelain surface. Song Yi unconsciously softened her breathing and walked over slowly, afraid of startling her.
Reaching Zhou Zhou’s side, she bent down and placed a pair of soft, pink perforated slippers at Zhou Zhou’s feet. After standing up, she turned and left briskly.
“Miss Song.”
Song Yi looked back.
“I do not have pajamas or a change of clothes. Can I use the bath towel on the rack?” Zhou Zhou asked, pointing to the wall.
“Of course.”
Song Yi did not dare look too much. She answered and turned her head away, walking a few steps toward the exit.
“Miss Song,” Zhou Zhou called out again.
Song Yi turned back, her gaze gentle. Zhou Zhou gripped the edge of the tub, her head slightly lowered as if brewing something important. Song Yi did not rush her and waited quietly. As she waited, she noticed the pink tint on Zhou Zhou’s fingers deepen.
“Miss Song, could you release a bit of your pheromones here? Just a little bit. It would make me feel more at ease.”
How could she not?
Song Yi paused for only a second before striding back toward Zhou Zhou.
Zhou Zhou saw Miss Song’s toes re-enter her field of vision. Immediately after, that red wine scent she craved began to spread from above.
Sitting on the slightly cool bathtub rim, she had actually been feeling a bit cold, but now she suddenly felt very warm. Despite her shyness, she could not help but look up; she wanted to see Miss Song.
Song Yi saw Zhou Zhou suddenly tilt her head back, her fair, flushed neck lengthening, her eyes shimmering with pure, simple happiness. She felt as if she were about to drown in that gaze.
Zhou Zhou said she only needed a little bit, but Song Yi wished she could give her everything.
