Reborn as the Heartless Alpha - Chapter 56.1
“Huh?” Zhou Zhou’s eyes widened in confusion.
“Yi Yi is Song Yi’s nickname,” the kind-looking woman explained. “We are Song Yi’s parents, and we have returned temporarily to visit her.”
Zhou Zhou swallowed nervously. “So, you are her father and mother.”
As she was about to open the gate, a video call came through from Miss Song. She remembered Miss Song’s previous warning: do not open the door for strangers and do not simply believe whatever they say.
“Miss Song is calling via video.” Zhou Zhou glanced at the middle-aged couple outside the gate. For a fleeting moment, the expressions on their faces froze. She could not tell if they were imposters showing a flaw, if they were surprised by her caution, or if they simply had not reacted yet.
The video call finally connected, and Song Yi asked anxiously, “Zhou Zhou, who is there?”
Zhou Zhou turned the camera toward the gate to let Miss Song judge for herself. If they were indeed her parents, Miss Song would know at a glance.
Through the lens, Song Yi managed to see the middle-aged couple standing outside.
“Yi Yi, why are you not at home?” the gentle-looking woman waved at her on the screen.
Song Yi froze. Eventually, she confirmed the identities of the middle-aged couple based on that unique and somewhat adorable nickname, “Yi Yi.”
They were the parents of the original body’s scumbag Alpha.
“We have not seen each other for several months. Do you not recognize your father and mother?” Song Hui squinted his eyes, but because Zhou Zhou was standing a certain distance away with an iron gate between them, he could not see the small person in the video clearly.
“Father, Mother,” Song Yi called out stiffly.
In her original world, her biological parents had been dead for several years. She had not used those words in a long time. Addressing people she did not know at all felt incredibly foreign and forced.
Once Zhou Zhou confirmed their identity, she immediately opened the gate and offered her phone so Miss Song could catch up with her parents.
From the looks of it, the aunt and uncle had returned home suddenly to give Miss Song a surprise, not expecting that Miss Song would not be at the villa.
Su Yurong nodded elegantly to Zhou Zhou, took the phone, and continued talking to her daughter in the video.
“Yi Yi, where are you now?”
Song Yi instinctively pushed her unfinished oden to the side, hiding it.
“I am at school for exams. It is finals week.”
“I see. It seems we returned at an inconvenient time.” Su Yurong turned to look at Song Hui, and Song Yi immediately said, “We will stay for three days at most before we have to leave.”
On the other end, Song Yi did not hear that clearly. She did not have any special feelings toward the parents of the original body, but she was worried that Zhou Zhou would feel awkward with them, and even more worried that they might make things difficult for her.
“Yi Yi, when are you coming home?” Su Yurong asked affectionately.
“In a week,” Song Yi stated her original plan, but in her heart, she was already considering other options.
Exams were not scheduled for every single day; if she wanted to go back, she could still squeeze out some time.
“Are you staying here for the next few days?”
“Is that not allowed?” Su Yurong glanced back at Zhou Zhou, then turned back and leaned closer to the screen, whispering, “This new girlfriend you have found is quite nice.”
Upon hearing this, Song Yi’s face flushed red instantly. She defended herself, “No, you have misunderstood.”
Su Yurong wore an expression that said, “I am your mother; I have already seen through you, so there is no need to pretend in front of me.” She raised her right hand and fluttered her fingers as if playing an invisible piano. “Goodbye.”
The video call ended, and Su Yurong returned the phone to Zhou Zhou. “Thank you.”
Zhou Zhou shook her head in trepidation. She felt quite uneasy, remembering how she had just left Miss Song’s parents outside the gate for so long.
“Do not be afraid. Tell me, what is your name?” Su Yurong familiarly took Zhou Zhou’s arm. Song Hui, standing beside her, carried a solid wood suitcase and said dotingly, “Yurong, here you go again. Do not scare the little girl.”
Zhou Zhou was indeed frightened. Her body was as stiff as a statue, yet she still tried her best to keep pace with Aunt Su as they entered the villa.
“My name is Zhou Zhou. I am the new villa housekeeper hired by Miss Song.”
“A villa housekeeper, is it?” Su Yurong drew out her words thoughtfully.
Then she reached a conclusion: “So, our Yi Yi has not managed to win you over yet?”
Zhou Zhou was startled once more and hurriedly said, “Auntie, you have misunderstood. Miss Song has someone she likes, but that person is not me. I just work here. There is nothing else between Miss Song and me.”
“Do not be nervous.” Su Yurong patted Zhou Zhou’s hand reassuringly. After a thought, she asked again, “Are you not even friends?”
Zhou Zhou opened her mouth but was left speechless.
Did she count as Miss Song’s friend?
Su Yurong watched her serious, thinking face and smiled. What a lovely little girl.
“Lead us up to pick a room first,” Su Yurong said with a smile.
Zhou Zhou led the way. She wanted to help the uncle carry the suitcase, but she was rejected.
“I can do it myself.” Song Hui’s smile was gentle, and his demeanor was elegant; he did not look like a businessman obsessed with money.
Once they were on the second floor, Su Yurong could not help but ask, “Zhou Zhou, which room do you and Yi Yi stay in?”
Zhou Zhou’s temple throbbed. She explained, “Miss Song and I do not stay in the same room. Miss Song stays in the master bedroom, and I stay in this guest bedroom next to it.”
That is still very close, Su Yurong thought.
It would not be a problem for them to move into one room in the future.
There were more than ten other guest rooms on the second floor. Zhou Zhou accompanied the aunt and uncle as they chose the room at the very end of the hallway.
“Auntie and Uncle, you probably have not eaten yet. Please rest for a moment; I will go downstairs to prepare right away.” Zhou Zhou was worried about neglecting Miss Song’s parents and was in a hurry to make arrangements.
“Do not worry. I have already asked the housekeeper of the other villa to arrange it. They will send the food over shortly,” Su Yurong said, stopping Zhou Zhou.
Zhou Zhou was stunned.
Su Yurong said, “When we arrived, we thought Yi Yi was still living there, so we instructed the housekeeper of that villa to prepare.”
Zhou Zhou nodded and said, “If you need anything over the next few days, you can tell me. Although I have not been Miss Song’s housekeeper for very long, I will certainly work hard to do a good job.”
“Good.” Su Yurong agreed happily, saying they would rest in the room for a while before going downstairs to eat.
Zhou Zhou bid them farewell and retreated. Because the tension had not completely faded, her heart was still beating very fast.
She went to the first floor early to set up and prepare. She smoothed out the tablecloth and, after confirming everything was perfect, sat on the sofa to wait for the food delivery. She took out her phone and found that Miss Song had sent her several messages not long ago.
[Zhou Zhou, my parents did not make things difficult for you, did they?]
Zhou Zhou thought of Aunt Su’s well-maintained and elegant face and suddenly smiled. She felt that the image did not quite match the noble ladies in the novels she had read recently. Although Aunt Su suspected her relationship with Miss Song, she did not pressure her like those in novels, trying to pay her off or force her to leave in other ways.
[Zhou Zhou, do my parents really want to stay at home?]
[Yes, Auntie and Uncle have already chosen their room.]
[Zhou Zhou, do not be afraid. You can tell me if anything happens.]
[Okay. Do not worry, Miss Song. Auntie and Uncle are both very kind to me.]
Song Yi was still sitting in the convenience store. The oden in her bowl had already gone cold.
She stared at the phone screen, wondering if Zhou Zhou was telling the truth or just did not want her to worry.
In her mind, she had almost zero impressions of the original body’s parents. The novel did not focus on them much either; it only described the family’s miserable state at the end when the Song family collapsed under the original Alpha’s hands, mentioning briefly that the couple doted on the original Alpha.
Since the original Alpha was so wicked, Song Yi instinctively assumed the parents could not be much better.
However, judging from the video call just now, neither of them seemed particularly difficult to get along with, unless they were hiding something.
[Did Miss Song finish her exams?] Zhou Zhou sent a message.
[I finished them.]
Song Yi continued typing: Zhou Zhou, what are you doing now?
Deleted.
She typed again: Have you had dinner?
Deleted.
Finally, perhaps sensing that she was typing and deleting, Zhou Zhou sent another message:
[The food has arrived. I am going to call Auntie and Uncle down for dinner. Miss Song should remember to eat as well.]
[Okay.]
Song Hui and Su Yurong received word from the other villa’s housekeeper that dinner had been delivered. They came downstairs arm-in-arm, looking very much in love.
Zhou Zhou was standing at the bottom of the stairs, and before she could go up to call them, they met like this. She looked up and was dazed by the sight.
It is often said that the atmosphere of the family of origin has a great influence on a child.
The aunt and uncle seemed very much in love, yet why was Miss Song so unstable in her love life, having had so many relationships?
“What are you thinking about?” Su Yurong asked with a smile when she reached Zhou Zhou.
“Oh, I was thinking that you and Uncle have such a good relationship.”
Su Yurong smiled, her joy evident in her expression. Song Hui, standing beside her, also smiled, with tenderness overflowing from his eyes.
“We are very good, but Yi Yi, sigh…” Su Yurong sighed as she thought of her daughter, who was always playing around in relationships and often taking things too far.
Zhou Zhou could not help but comfort her: “Miss Song seems very serious this time.”
“Really?” Su Yurong’s eyes widened in surprise. “Which girl is it?”
Zhou Zhou first nodded, then shook her head. “I do not know either. I only know that Miss Song has someone she likes now and is very serious.”
She remembered the “Dream Omega” Miss Song had instinctively hidden and lied about when Zhou Zhou saw it. She remembered Miss Song taking her to the amusement park and carefully planning future date routes.
This time, Miss Song was truly serious.
She just did not know which girl was so lucky.
Su Yurong closed her eyes, her thoughts drifting as she went through all the girls she currently knew in H City who she thought were decent, but she could not find a match.
When she opened her eyes, her gaze fell back on Zhou Zhou, and she was suddenly startled.
Could it be that the girl is Zhou Zhou?
She remembered that when she mentioned the new girlfriend being nice during her call with Yi Yi earlier, Yi Yi seemed to have blushed.
What was this youthful state if not truly being moved?
“Auntie and Uncle, please come and eat,” Zhou Zhou reminded them. “The taste will not be as good if it gets cold.”
Su Yurong led Song Hui over. Zhou Zhou stood to the side and did not sit down.
“Zhou Zhou, sit down and eat with us.”
Zhou Zhou hesitated, feeling very awkward.
“It is fine. Sit down with us. You usually eat with Yi Yi, do you not?” Su Yurong asked tentatively. Seeing Zhou Zhou’s pupils contract slightly, her bright eyes revealed the panic of being caught.
Confirming her suspicion, Su Yurong stood up and pulled Zhou Zhou to sit beside her.
“Eat more. You are too thin.”
“Thank you, Auntie.”
“How old are you this year?”
“Nineteen.”
“Are you a freshman in college?”
Zhou Zhou put down her chopsticks in embarrassment. “I just finished the college entrance exam.”
“How did you do on the exam?” Su Yurong asked softly and with concern.
“Well…” Zhou Zhou did not know how to answer. Although she did well, it felt a bit shameful to say it herself.
