Reborn as the Heartless Alpha - Chapter 12
After realizing her mistake, Song Yi wished she could slap her oblivious self. Zhou Zhou’s pheromones were cherry-scented, yet she had been eating cherries right in front of her enthusiastically and without a shred of elegance.
Given Zhou Zhou’s current situation, she must have felt incredibly insecure, viewing Song Yi as some looming predator ready to devour her at any moment.
Song Yi, oh Song Yi, how could you mess up so easily?
Regret was useless now. Song Yi could only maintain her composure, keeping her hand extended to offer Zhou Zhou the cherries. She counted down in her head five more seconds, and if she doesn’t take them, I’ll just put them in the fridge.
Five, four, three.
Zhou Zhou suddenly reached into the transparent box and politely picked up two cherries. “Thank you, Miss Song.”
Song Yi’s heart pounded like a drum. “You’re welcome.”
“Do you like cherries, Miss Song?”
Zhou Zhou lowered her gaze to the two plump, deep-red cherries in her palm, her fingertips lightly brushing the green stems still attached.
Grateful that Zhou Zhou wasn’t looking at her, Song Yi awkwardly withdrew her hand and quickly flexed her facial muscles.
“Yeah, I’ve loved cherries since I was a kid.”
With that, she stood up to store the cherries in the fridge. When she returned, guilt still gnawed at her, so she offered an honest apology. “I’m sorry. I forgot your pheromones are cherry-scented just now. That was inconsiderate of me.”
“It’s fine.” Zhou Zhou exhaled in relief.
It occurred to her that the reason Miss Song had noticed her trapped in that deserted corner earlier might have been because she caught the scent of something she loved.
Neither spoke further, each lost in their own thoughts as they finished dinner.
After tidying up, Song Yi invited Zhou Zhou upstairs to rest. She let Zhou Zhou use the bathroom first while she waited, still unshowered.
When Zhou Zhou emerged from the bathroom, Song Yi gestured casually toward the large bed. “You can go ahead and sleep, Zhou Zhou.”
Zhou Zhou nodded and walked toward the bed.
It was enormous several times bigger than any bed she’d ever slept in with a plush mattress and bedding adorned with vivid red roses on the sheets, duvet, and pillows, almost overwhelmingly vibrant.
As Zhou Zhou studied the bed, Song Yi studied her. Zhou Zhou had changed into the black spaghetti-strap nightgown after her shower, but Song Yi had deliberately avoided looking at her until now. Even now, she only meant to confirm that Zhou Zhou had settled in first.
But she hadn’t expected the nightgown to reveal this much from the back nearly bare, yet veiled with a layer of black chiffon. Through the haze, Song Yi caught sight of a pair of exquisite shoulder blades, and her breath hitched slightly.
The moment Zhou Zhou turned to climb into bed, Song Yi slipped into the bathroom.
She skipped the bathtub and went straight for the shower, hoping to wash away all the lingering and inappropriate, thoughts.
Hot water cascaded over her as she squeezed shampoo into her palm, massaging it into her hair while she wondered: Will I always be this affected by pheromones from now on?
As an alpha, would she feel this way around any omega’s scent? Or was it just because it was Zhou Zhou?
Song Yi didn’t dare jump to conclusions. She simply sped up her shower.
Meanwhile, Zhou Zhou lay in bed, pulling the covers tightly over herself.
Tonight, am I really sharing a bed with Miss Song?
During the day, the doctor, Dr. Ding, had suggested that she and Miss Song should stay together these next few days. However, she wasn’t sure whether “stay together” meant being in the same house or the same room.
Just as Zhou Zhou was tangled in her thoughts, the bathroom door opened.
Song Yi peeked out, holding the door ajar with half her face visible, looking slightly flustered as she said, “Zhou Zhou, I think I forgot to bring my nightgown. Could you grab one for me, any one is fine?”
“Sure,” Zhou Zhou agreed immediately, throwing off the covers and getting out of bed. “What color would you like, Miss Song?”
Without hesitation, Song Yi blurted out, “Black.”
Zhou Zhou paused for a second before quickly opening the wardrobe. Her eyes swept over the contents, there was more than one black nightgown inside, likely because Miss Song simply preferred black.
She shouldn’t overthink it.
Zhou Zhou randomly picked out a black nightgown and only realized as she handed it to Miss Song at the bathroom door that it seemed to be the same style as the one she was wearing.
Song Yi didn’t notice anything unusual and simply smiled, saying, “Thank you,” before closing the door again.
Zhou Zhou’s face burned, and she hurried back to bed as if startled, pulling the covers over herself.
By the time Song Yi stepped out of the bathroom, she was surprised to find Zhou Zhou already lying with her eyes closed.
Her hair was still wet, so she silently grabbed a dry towel and stood to the side, gently patting the moisture from her strands while studying Zhou Zhou’s face thoughtfully.
She fell asleep so quickly. Doesn’t Zhou Zhou feel wary of her?
Song Yi sighed inwardly, leisurely sitting on the edge of the bed as she waited for her hair to air-dry, one leg crossed over the other while scrolling through her phone.
Only a few days had passed since the college entrance exams, and there was still a while before results would be released and applications submitted. Zhou Zhou would likely stay with her for just a few more days before leaving. But unless she saw Zhou Zhou fill out her college applications according to her own wishes and receive an acceptance letter, Song Yi probably wouldn’t be able to fully relax.
Back when she was reading the novel This Scummy Alpha Always Plays Fast and Loose, she couldn’t stand how Zhou Zhou was deceived by the original scummy alpha. Like many other readers, she had passionately commented: Zhou Zhou, don’t fall for the scummy alpha’s tricks, I’ll protect you!!!
It had just been an impulsive remark at the time. Song Yi never expected that when she recalled it again, she would have transmigrated into the novel and ended up by Zhou Zhou’s side.
She hadn’t followed the original plot by fully marking Zhou Zhou. Once Zhou Zhou’s heat passed, she would leave. Whether the subsequent plot would be completely overturned, she couldn’t say for sure.
One thing worried her: Would those alphas from before come looking for Zhou Zhou again?
What else could she do for Zhou Zhou?
Song Yi’s hair wasn’t particularly long. After patting it dry with the towel, the damp strands draped over her towel-covered shoulders, droplets gathering at the ends before falling.
At that moment, Zhou Zhou opened her eyes and watched silently.
Was Miss Song not using a hairdryer because she didn’t want to wake her?
What was Miss Song thinking about?
Lost in her thoughts about the future, Song Yi didn’t notice that Zhou Zhou had opened her eyes and had been watching her all along.
Not until the faint, sweet scent of cherries drifted to her nose. She swallowed a few times before finally turning her head to look.
“Can’t sleep well here?”
Zhou Zhou hadn’t expected to be caught. Flustered, she blinked her bright eyes and said, “Miss Song, you should dry your hair properly first.”
“Alright.” Song Yi pressed her lips together in a small smile. Most of the worries weighing on her mind earlier had dissipated the moment she caught that sweet cherry scent though now, her heart felt a little itchy.
She got up and walked around to the other side of the bed to dry her hair with a hairdryer, her back turned to Zhou Zhou.
By the time she finished and turned around, she noticed Zhou Zhou was still watching her, those clear eyes revealing a faint longing.
Perhaps under the physiological influence of pheromones, Zhou Zhou harbored desires similar to hers.
Song Yi turned off the crystal chandelier overhead, leaving only the warm glow of the bedside lamp. With a soft laugh, she said, “Wait for me a moment.”
Zhou Zhou nodded lightly, unsure of what she was about to do.
Song Yi crouched down, curling up at the foot of the bed, acting mysteriously.
In a place where Zhou Zhou couldn’t see, she mercilessly injected herself with two more suppressants.
Then, as if nothing had happened, she climbed into bed and lay down, slowly allowing her pheromones to seep out.
The scent of red wine pheromones spread through the quiet night, intertwining with the sweet fragrance of cherries.
Song Yi turned her head to look at Zhou Zhou, the corner of her lips curling slightly. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Lulled by the soothing red wine pheromones, Zhou Zhou drifted off to sleep. What she didn’t know was that in the middle of the night, Song Yi, restless and itching with desire, quietly got up to inject yet another suppressant.
She was a little disgusted with her own alpha body were all alphas as prone to wandering thoughts as she was?
After tossing and turning late into the night, Song Yi finally fell asleep.
The next day, she slept until the sun was high in the sky. Rubbing her eyes as she sat up, she realized her sleeping posture had been rather alluring, but she paid it no mind.
Then she noticed the empty space beside her and instantly snapped awake.
Where was Zhou Zhou?
