- Chapter 4 - Rumors: The Young Master Is Hiding Someone in His Room
Xiao Nian was aware when Shu Chen entered, but he lacked the strength to move though that didn’t mean he hadn’t heard the words: “How did you get so filthy?”
Shu Chen crouched down and grabbed the male lead’s sweat-soaked hair. A faint, delicate fragrance drifted closer. Xiao Nian opened his eyes, his unfocused gaze sweeping across the little pervert’s face fair and tender-looking, yet never doing anything human.
That was Xiao Nian’s last thought before he blacked out.
Shu Chen lifted the unconscious male lead into his arms, his clean inner robe stained with the man’s blood, dirtied beyond recognition.
[Didn’t you say he was filthy?] The System always questioned his actions.
“Then what, drag him away?”
[So you were planning to take him with you. I thought you wanted to kick him while he was down.]
Even the villain System’s thoughts lacked humanity.
Shu Chen brought the male lead back to his room and cast a cleansing spell on him according to the scroll. The moment the man was briefly clean, blood continued to seep out with a sizzling sound, dyeing his body red again not even the bedsheets were spared.
Shu Chen sighed. With this much blood loss, he truly was the male lead.
The male lead was hemorrhaging, and the System was useless at critical moments. Shu Chen had no choice but to find the estate’s medical cultivator.
After the treatment, the medical cultivator looked at him with a strange expression, hesitating several times as if about to speak. Before leaving, he tactfully advised: “Young Master, if you truly wish to play, you could find a cultivator. A mortal like him can’t withstand it.”
Glancing at the young man whose expression hadn’t changed, the medical cultivator placed the ointment on the table. “I’ve repaired the damaged meridians. Once he wakes, you may instruct him to apply this medicine to his wounds.”
Bored and having read too many storybooks, the medical cultivator’s mind was full of filth. After seeing the male lead’s injuries, he privately assumed they had an improper relationship and didn’t dare apply the medicine to the person in bed in front of the Young Master.
Shu Chen: “Mm. You may go.”
The medical cultivator mentally cast himself as the tool character summoned in the middle of the night to treat someone’s lover in those stories.
After the medical cultivator left, Shu Chen pulled off the male lead’s loose clothes and covered him with a blanket to preserve his modesty.
“How tragic. Is he really the Heavenly Dao’s favored son?”
The System was still thinking about other things and, caught off guard by the question, instinctively deflected: “You’d have to ask the author about that. It’s all his design.”
Shu Chen: “Forget it. It’s none of my business anyway.”
Perhaps because he’d grown accustomed to this body of a cultivator, Shu Chen bathed again and read the scroll for a while, yet still wasn’t sleepy.
Not a sound came from the next room the male lead was still asleep.
Shu Chen lay in bed with his eyes open. Comparing the two of them, he felt aggrieved.
He silently made his way to the male lead’s bedside, stared at the sleeping man for a moment, then bent down and grabbed the man’s shoulders, shaking him awake.
The awakened male lead had little patience. Before his mind even caught up, he instinctively grabbed Shu Chen by the throat. Once he saw who it was, he pressed the young boy down against his body with one hand, using his waist and abdomen to flip their positions.
“Little pervert, what do you want now?”
The anger that hit him in the face restored Shu Chen’s psychological balance.
He lay on the bed, not the least bit worried the male lead would harm him. “I saved you. Isn’t it fair to collect my reward?”
Xiao Nian recalled what he’d suffered not long ago and wanted nothing more than to kill him. He sneered: “You dare bring that up? If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have a scratch on me right now.”
Shu Chen said helplessly: “I knew you’d deny it.”
Xiao Nian released his throat and propped himself up to move farther away. “So what if I”
Before he could finish, Xiao Nian froze like a broken record, looking down at his body in disbelief. But he quickly regained his composure, sitting calmly on the bed and pulling the blanket over his lower half.
Shu Chen had misjudged the thickness of the male lead’s skin and didn’t get to see him flustered. Disappointed, he sat up, but before he could state his purpose, the System warned him:
[Your father is coming.]
The City Lord’s cultivation was several realms above his. If not for the System’s warning, he wouldn’t have sensed it at all.
“What’s he doing here this late?”
[He was accompanying your mother on a night hunt when he sensed the City Lord’s estate barrier had been broken. He rushed back from the extreme cold region, searched everywhere nearby, and found nothing wrong. Just as he was about to leave again, he ran into the medical cultivator leaving your courtyard. That medical cultivator didn’t dare lie to him and told him about the man hidden in your room. Oh, and he also told your mother. At her urging, your father came to secretly check on you.]
Xiao Nian saw the little pervert frozen in place and began looking for clothes to leave on his own.
“Hey, find me some clothes. I can’t exactly go back wearing nothing.”
Shu Chi stood outside, a communication stone glowing within his sleeve. A barely audible female voice came through: “Get closer. I can’t hear well.”
Shu Chen snapped back to attention. Hearing the male lead’s words, he asked instinctively: “Where are you going back to?” There were still tasks ahead the male lead couldn’t leave the City Lord’s estate yet.
Xiao Nian’s tone was dripping with sarcasm: “Someone like me who can’t be seen in the light naturally goes back to the basement. What, has your conscience returned? Finally willing to let me out?”
Shu Chen: “No.”
The two of them knew each other’s true situation they were completely innocent but to outside ears, it sounded like something else entirely.
Xiao Nian leaned against the wall with a lazy, nonchalant air. “Even though you don’t need clothes for what you were doing, you should at least save me some face in normal times.”
He concealed his hatred, and facing the villain, he even managed a cocky smile. “Would you do me a favor, young master, and find me some clothes?”
Shu Chen said slowly, “No. I haven’t even collected the payment I’m owed, and you dare make demands of me?”
As the male lead of a no-romance novel, Xiao Nian knew when to bend. “Fine, then tell me what payment you want. But let me make it clear first I won’t agree to anything excessive. Anyway, it’s not like you haven’t seen this body before. It’s not worth paying too much for a piece of clothing.”
To show he truly didn’t care about being seen naked, Xiao Nian even kicked at the blanket covering his legs.
Shu Chen ignored him, got off the bed, and walked slowly toward the door. In a voice neither too loud nor too soft, he said hesitantly, “It sounds like someone’s outside.”
The moment he opened the door, the person standing outside vanished.
The next instant, Shu Chi appeared in his own room and said to his wife, who was far away, “I almost got caught. I can’t eavesdrop anymore.” Having done something wrong for the first time, he felt a bit guilty.
The wife on the other end said excitedly, “No wonder he rarely lets outsiders into the courtyard so he’s hiding someone. I’ll come home tomorrow. Tonight, don’t let any suspicious person leave the estate.”
Sensing his wife’s excitement, Shu Chi felt increasingly guilty toward his son.
