- Chapter 34.1 - The Fated Pair
“Really?!”
Xu Yilong’s voice was crisp and full of anticipation as she looked at Wen Qing’s eyes, devoid of admiration or affection, only brimming with expectation?
Her actions left the other student council members utterly bewildered.
Though everyone shipped the couple, they did so secretly and privately. While they often teased Wen Qing in this manner, no one had the audacity to openly inquire like Xu Yilong did, almost as if she were about to drag Jiang Man over and have them perform a passionate French kiss in front of everyone.
The senior sitting next to Xu Yilong awkwardly tugged at her sleeve, covering her face with her hand as she turned to give Xu Yilong a meaningful look with raised eyebrows.
But Xu Yilong, being straightforward and naive, didn’t understand the senior’s hint and simply let out a confused “Huh?”
At the head of the table, Wen Qing sat up straight, her emerald eyes fixed intently on Xu Yilong.
The atmosphere in the office gradually froze and stiffened.
After a long pause, the disheartened members suddenly heard Wen Qing laugh.
Following the sound, they saw a genuine smile on Wen Qing’s face. “I’m sorry, but this matter concerns Manman’s reputation, so I can’t give you a definite answer right now.”
Though her words were impeccably cautious, everyone couldn’t help but interpret them as:
Yes, we’re about to start dating, but we’re not officially together yet, so I can’t give you a clear answer.
Hiss…
It sounded less like a denial and more like a subtle official announcement.
Everyone exchanged glances, their eyes darting around as they prepared to bid farewell and leave, only to hear the bold underclasswoman raise her hand again and ask, “Then what do you think about everyone in the forum shipping you and Manman, as well as the fanfics and fanart about your CP?”
Hearing this, the members exchanged another look, their just-lifted posteriors settling back down as they pretended not to care, though their ears were practically straining to catch every word from Wen Qing.
After shipping the “Qin Man” CP for so long, they were genuinely curious whether the aloof and untouchable Student Council President knew about the existence of the CP forum and the fan creations featuring her and Manman!
Seeing Xu Yilong’s earnest expression, Wen Qing lowered her gaze and pondered for a moment.
“Whether it’s shipping or creating fanworks, they’re just forms of entertainment for students. Our school adheres to a military-style education that balances strictness and flexibility. Regarding this matter, we neither support, oppose, nor comment on it.”
Wen Qing looked seriously into Xu Yilong’s expectant eyes. “As for the fan creations about Manman and me, my stance is that as long as they don’t affect Manman’s normal life or career, I maintain my three-noes attitude.”
Wow, such a queenly statement!
A single “childhood friend” thread had turned a hardcore solo fan into a casual shipper. Xu Yilong couldn’t help but marvel at Wen Qing’s queenly aura.
So bold, so impactful.
The CP fan inquiry session, which had boldly confronted the subject herself, concluded with Wen Qing’s impeccably cautious, queenly remarks.
When Wen Qing returned to the dormitory, Fang Jin, who was on a diet and hadn’t eaten enough for dinner, was so hungry she was about to chew on an eraser as if it were gum.
Jiang Man and Mu Qian were desperately trying to restrain her, but how could two normal people subdue a ravenous glutton driven mad by hunger?
Seeing Wen Qing return, the two of them looked as if they had spotted a savior and quickly called her over to help.
With the three of them working together, they finally managed to pin down the hunger-crazed Fang Jin.
Jiang Man slumped to the ground, panting heavily, and couldn’t help but mock Fang Jin, who was being mercilessly disciplined by Wen Qing and whimpering pitifully: “If you were hungry, you should’ve eaten more during dinner.” Then you wouldn’t be starving like this now.”
“If your fans found out you were bold enough to even consider chewing on an eraser to curb your cravings, just imagine how many of them would abandon you!”
Exhausted, Mu Xi quietly added from the side: “She’ll snap out of it once her rivals capitalize on this and rise through the ranks with their flawless marketing.”
Hearing this, Fang Jin choked up, her hunger-addled mind gradually clearing as she pressed her cheek against the floor and burst into loud sobs.
After her crying fit, the inexplicable surge of appetite slowly faded. Clinging to her three “adoptive mothers,” Fang Jin wept uncontrollably, snot and tears flowing freely, causing the three to step back repeatedly.
Watching Fang Jin, who seemed possessed by a ravenous demon, Jiang Man remained silent, quietly absorbing the pitfalls of extreme dieting.
Once Fang Jin had calmed down, Wen Qing finally looked at them and dropped a bombshell:
The monthly exam was coming!
As an esteemed tradition of Yi High, final exams, midterms, monthly tests, weekly quizzes, and pop quizzes were the stuff of nightmares for every student.
If it were just ordinary exams, it might be tolerable.
The problem was, the school administration had perfectly tapped into the vanity of these hormone-driven teenagers by publishing the final rankings on two distinct lists: the Red and Black Boards.
The Red Board featured carefully selected artistic photos of the students also known as the Peacock Display Board.
The Black Board, on the other hand, showcased candid shots of students caught at their absolute worst by the school staff. Though unflattering, each photo was unmistakably recognizable.
Dubbed the “Love-Proof Board,” it effectively eliminated any chance of early romance throughout high school.
No teenager in the midst of puberty, freshly differentiated and riding high on surging hormones, would willingly forfeit love for all three years of high school.
Not a single one!
As the two most academically vulnerable in the dorm, Jiang Man and Fang Jin clasped their hands together, desperately pleading with their two “private tutors” for help.
The news of the monthly exam spread like wildfire across the campus the very next day.
Since no one knew when the surprise test would strike, the relaxed atmosphere from the start of the semester quickly tensed up.
Jiang Man and Fang Jin studied relentlessly, but compared to Fang Jin, Jiang Man’s life was far more comfortable.
Academically, she had Wen Qing, the ultimate brain, patiently guiding her. In daily life, Wen Qing took care of her every need with meticulous, round-the-clock attention.
When she grew tired of studying, Wen Qing was there to help her unwind. When boredom set in, Wen Qing had designed educational games just for her.
After each monthly exam prep, Jiang Man would experience a prolonged withdrawal period from Wen Qing’s support.
But before she could fully recover, the next monthly exam would arrive, and the cycle would repeat.
This went on and on until winter or summer break, when Jiang Man could barely break free only for the cycle to restart once school resumed.
Yi High’s monthly exams always struck unexpectedly, but fortunately, Jiang Man was prepared.
So when she suddenly received the test papers during a study session in the dorm, her first thought was: Finally, it’s here!
Under the proctor’s watchful eye, Jiang Man reviewed the questions, picked up her pen, and began writing furiously, recognizing every topic Wen Qing had drilled into her.
With the final stroke, Jiang Man gazed proudly at her fully answered paper, puffed out her chest, and respectfully handed it to the teacher.
Since random testing consumed so much time, grading the papers didn’t take long at all.
After the school-wide exams were completed and the scores were tallied, they were uniformly posted on the Honor and Disgrace Board.
Jiang Man confidently rushed to the board to find her name, but the first thing she saw was Wen Qing’s photo, still firmly holding the top spot.
It had to be said that Wen Qing had endured hardship, faced embarrassment, and even been a bit spoiled, but she had never been anything less than beautiful.
As an alpha, she possessed a face more delicate than that of an omega, yet it still carried the firmness characteristic of an alpha both enchanting and striking.
Even as a child, Jiang Man would often get upset with her, only to be disarmed again and again by Wen Qing’s pitiful, coquettish expressions. Then, hopelessly swayed by her pretty face, Jiang Man would forgive her without a second thought.
For Jiang Man, as long as Wen Qing didn’t cross any of her fundamental principles, she could always look at that beautiful face and forgive her unconditionally.
There was no helping it, Jiang Man was just that indulgent toward good-looking people.
Looking further down, the second name was Mu Qian.
The girl’s face, partially hidden by her “artist’s favorite” long hair, exuded a decadent yet elegant aura, making anyone who saw her want to shout: BQueen!
Jiang Man continued scanning downward and finally found her own name at thirteenth place.
Thank goodness, with Wen Qing’s help in predicting the exam topics, Jiang Man’s score hadn’t dropped.
Seeing her stable and even slightly improved score, Jiang Man breathed a sigh of relief and began eagerly anticipating the parent-teacher meeting the next day, already thinking about what reward she should ask her mothers for.
Hmm, how about asking Mama to let Mom spend the night with her instead?
Immediately, Jiang Man came up with the most impossible wish.
Parent-teacher meetings were a highly polarized affair for students.
The students at First High were all academically capable and could be considered one-in-ten-thousand talents.
But at First High, every student had been selected from tens of thousands of exam-takers.
Although they were all exceptional, unfortunately, their classmates, friends, and crushes were too.
Time always favors the beautiful.
When Liu Ying and Jiang Feng arrived at the entrance of Class A, Jiang Man immediately spotted her increasingly stunning mother.
No matter how old Jiang Man grew, in the eyes of Liu Ying and Jiang Feng, she would always be that chubby, adorable little girl.
With an excited cry, Jiang Man leaped into Chairman Jiang’s arms, hugging and nuzzling them both, displaying all the charm of a doting daughter.
Liu Ying looked at her daughter with affectionate exasperation, then turned and spotted Wen Qing. She walked over and said, “Qingqing, your mom is busy filming on set, and your mother is away on a business trip, so would it be alright if I stand in as your guardian today?”
“Of course, that’s fine,” Wen Qing replied, standing before Liu Ying with an almost unnervingly well-behaved demeanor. “Thank you, Aunt Liu Ying.”
Even though Wen Qing had grown up right before their eyes, Liu Ying couldn’t help but adore her more and more for her lovely face.
It was a pity, though this child’s acting skills couldn’t just be described as lacking; one might say she had completely blocked off the path of performance. Plus, unlike Manzai, who was passionately devoted to acting, Wen Qing didn’t share the same fervor. Thus, Xu Nuo had never forced her to follow in her footsteps.
Noticing the faint dark circles under Wen Qing’s eyes, Liu Ying smiled even more gently. “Haven’t been resting well lately? Or has Manzai been bothering you? Is your spirit still constantly being held in her hands and petted?”
Hearing this, Wen Qing scratched her head sheepishly.
“Manman has been very well-behaved and obedient, and she’s been studying diligently lately.” Wen Qing couldn’t help but defend Jiang Man. “It’s just that I’ve been having some issues with my research project progress and stayed up late working on it for a few days.”
Upon hearing this, Liu Ying showed a pained expression.
Even at forty-two, Chairman Jiang and Liu Ying’s relationship remained as sweet as honey.
Sensing his wife’s distressed pheromones, Jiang Feng immediately abandoned his daughter and rushed to his wife’s side.
After hugging his wife and nuzzling against her, Jiang Feng finally looked up at Wen Qing.
Though objectively speaking, Wen Qing took impeccable care of Jiang Man, Jiang Feng had always inexplicably disliked her since childhood.
Even with Chairman Jiang’s efforts to mediate, this never changed, for reasons unknown.
Their relationship wasn’t exactly antagonistic or hostile, but it certainly wasn’t as affectionate as Jiang Man and Wen Yu’s.
Wen Qing obediently greeted Jiang Feng, who, mindful of his wife’s presence, nodded with a professional smile.
The four youngsters sat together. Just after they took their seats, before the teacher arrived, Jiang Feng started chatting animatedly with his old friends.
Since Li Chengxi’s film crew was deep in the mountains and couldn’t easily leave, the one attending the parent-teacher meeting this time was her alpha wife, Mu Qian, who taught at the neighboring high school.
Unlike Fang Hao and Chairman Jiang, perhaps due to being constantly surrounded by books, Mu Qian always carried a gentle aura about her, completely devoid of the typical alpha aggressiveness.
The bespectacled, scholarly alpha always wore a smile, gently fulfilling her role as an attentive listener.
Somehow, the conversation shifted from the children’s studies to Mu Qian’s career plans.
Fang Hao thought of it and asked directly: “Mu Qian, are you planning to resign from the neighboring school this semester to focus on supervising Mu Qian’s studies?”
