- Chapter 3 - Little Melon’s Snack Time
Just moments ago, Jiang Man was only one step away from crossing over to the other side!
As her lungs filled with oxygen once more, Jiang Man lifted her head and saw the beautiful little snake badge baby, tears silently streaming down her face.
The little snake badge baby cried in complete silence.
She made no sound, only staring intently at Jiang Man as bean-sized tears rolled from her eyes.
Anyone unaware might have thought it was her, not Jiang Man, who had almost greeted the beautiful auntie just now.
No one, absolutely no one, could resist the sight of a beauty in tears. And a beautiful little one crying was no exception!
At the very least, Jiang Man couldn’t resist.
Once her breathing steadied, Jiang Man took the initiative, nuzzling the tear-streaked cheek of the beautiful little one.
“Pwah! I’m okay, don’t cry, let’s snuggle~” Poor baby, no more tears, I’m fine now, let’s cuddle.
No one, absolutely no one, could continue wailing under the snuggle power of Boss Manzai.
But there was more than just the little snake badge baby in the room.
Seeing Jiang Man nuzzling the little snake, the fluffy chick and Little Bo Teacher also came crawling over, babbling happily.
These three little ones had an astonishingly strong sense of obliviousness.
Across from them, the recently comforted little snake badge baby watched them with a burning, intense gaze.
Yet, under her scorching stare, the fluffy chick and Little Bo Teacher remained completely unfazed, giggling as they pressed their chubby cheeks against Jiang Man’s face, nuzzling her.
“Ya!”
The beautiful little one crawled over with a cold expression, pushing the silly fluffy chick and Little Bo Teacher aside. She tightly hugged Jiang Man, glaring at them warily, asserting her dominance and she looked fierce doing it!
Even when the other two little ones, wisely deciding not to pick a fight and recognizing the situation, tried to crawl to Jiang Man’s other side for more snuggles.
Jiang Man saw her little brows furrow, a fierce expression spreading across her face as she babbled in baby talk, warning them not to come closer.
Wow, just wow.
Held tightly in her embrace, Jiang Man couldn’t help but marvel:
This little one,
is so domineering!
Turning to look at the now fierce-looking pretty little sister, Jiang Man raised her hand, her tiny hammer-like paw poking at her own chubby chin as she fell into thought.
This situation, this situation right now.
Oh my goodness!
All three little ones in the room had actually bowed down before Emperor Manzai’s crawling suit!
Heavens, had she been given the script of a “thousand-baby heartthrob” in this life? To be so fiercely fought over by these adorable, chubby, and beautiful little ones!
Just imagining the scene of being surrounded by sweet-smelling babies made Jiang Man’s eyes squint with delight.
Comfortable, so incredibly comfortable!
In the observation room, Liu Ying watched on the ultra-high-definition, crystal-clear large screen specially purchased by the production team as her daughter was surrounded by a group of little ones, happily wiggling her feet.
It was just like those little emperors from the history books documenting ancient times patting one baby, nuzzling another, and still finding time to snuggle the pouting little snake badge baby who was sulking in her arms.
Liu Ying couldn’t help but look bewildered, resting her chin on her hand as she pondered:
They say children are a reflection of their parents. Did she and Jiang Feng act like this at home?
It shouldn’t be, it really shouldn’t!
It must be that bad woman Jiang Feng, letting Manzai watch those ancient TV dramas about palace life from the distant past shows that underage little ones shouldn’t be watching!
Unbeknownst to Liu Ying, a camera had quietly focused on her.
Through the masterful editing in post-production, the audience discovered one thing: like mother, like daughter.
Whether it was Liu Ying propping her chin with one hand or her secretly baring her teeth to act fierce, she looked exactly like Jiang Man, as if carved from the same mold!
Over here, Liu Ying was unfairly blaming the innocent Director Jiang; meanwhile, Jiang Man had already transformed into a little emperor.
A good little one must learn to share.
Scattered throughout the room were many hidden snacks, as searching for food was both an exercise and an entertaining activity for the little ones.
Jiang Man, being new here, was unaware of this, but the little chick badge toddler and the others had been in this small room for a very long time and knew exactly which corners held which treats.
Seeing that they couldn’t rescue Jiang Man from the little snake badge toddler’s embrace, the two toddlers didn’t lose heart. Instead, they turned and crawled away, rummaging through a small bag tucked in a corner.
A freshly retrieved cheese stick tumbled out of the bag.
Holding the cheese stick in their mouths, they crawled back toward Jiang Man.
Toddlers are beings that exist between the extremes of extreme hunger and extreme sleepiness.
The moment Jiang Man saw the cheese stick, her chubby little belly began to rumble like thunder.
Hearing this, the little snake badge toddler immediately released her and, under Jiang Man’s puzzled gaze, swiftly wriggled across the floor. In the blink of an eye, she unearthed a pile of goodies, including but not limited to:
Cheese sticks, teething rusks, a temperature-controlled milk bottle, chew toys, and more.
The little snake badge toddler pushed the pile of snacks toward Jiang Man. As a toddler herself, her eyes showed no desire for the treats. Instead, she stared intently at Jiang Man, waiting for her reaction.
Most toddlers don’t know when they’re full and can easily overeat, leading to spit-up or even acute gastroenteritis.
And now, with so many snacks laid out before her!
Faced with such an enticing array of snacks, not only the adults in the observation room but even Jiang Feng, watching from behind the screen, couldn’t help but worry for Jiang Man.
Fortunately, Jiang Man wasn’t a real toddler. She knew exactly how much she could eat.
To keep her tummy safe, Jiang Man only picked a few items from the dazzling snack display to taste, leaving the rest untouched.
Seeing that she had stopped eating, the little snake badge toddler assumed she was tired and took it upon herself to unwrap a cheese stick, offering it to her.
Already full, Jiang Man declined the offering.
The little toddler’s face fell with disappointment.
But when Jiang Man flashed her a sweet smile, the toddler, who had been sulking over the rejection, instantly brightened up.
Jiang Man couldn’t resist crawling over to nuzzle the little snake badge toddler, who was smiling with pursed lips.
Pretty little ones are even cuter when they smile more!
Two tiny fists pressed against the little snake badge toddler’s cheeks. Startled, she hadn’t even processed what was happening when the corners of her mouth were gently lifted by the little fists.
“Mwah!” So pretty!
The toddler looked up to see Jiang Man’s honey-sweet eyes curved into crescents, gazing at her with a smile.
Before Jiang Man could react, the toddler who had been frozen in place for a while was suddenly lifted up by her mother, who held her under the arms.
Just as the pretty little toddler’s face nearly hit the floor, her mother swiftly scooped her up.
Jiang Man’s mind went blank as she rested dazedly on her mother’s fragrant shoulder, which smelled sweetly of peaches.
Liu Ying held her chubby, soft little darling in her arms, her gaze wary as she stared at the mother of the green-haired toddler. Her words spilled out like rapid gunfire: “Xu Nuo, how come your little one is already learning to take advantage of others at such a young age!”
“Did they learn this from your shameless partner? You better rein them in!”
“Back in school, you and your partner were just as brazen. Truly, like mother, like child!”
“Me and Wen Yu being shameless?”
Xu Nuo, the famously aloof goddess of the film industry, was hopping mad partly because her daughter had been slighted and partly because her rival was spreading rumors. “Clearly, it’s you and Jiang Feng who are the most shameless!”
“I wonder who it was that, right after presenting, shyly tugged at my sleeve and begged me to cover for her while she climbed out the window to secretly meet her childhood sweetheart who had already presented!”
Oh my!
Everyone present, except for the little fluffball and the young boar toddler who didn’t understand, and the little snake toddler who wasn’t interested, couldn’t help but widen their eyes and prick up their ears.
Including Jiang Man, who was being held by Liu Ying.
Jiang Man’s eyes sparkled as she watched the two mothers expose each other’s secrets.
Liu Ying accused Xu Nuo of dating early and moving in with Wen Yu during his sensitive period in their senior year of high school like a love-struck fool; Xu Nuo retorted that Liu Ying was a drama queen who bossed Jiang Feng around like training a puppy, all because he was hopelessly in love with her.
Back and forth they went, arguing so intensely they completely forgot the live broadcast cameras were rolling.
The onlookers listened with bated breath, while only the program producer behind the monitors grinned from ear to ear.
She knew it! Manzai was her lucky star!
Just look now they had all the buzz they needed!
Little Man, munching on metaphorical melon seeds, shook her head like a rattle drum until, with a soft thud, her head drooped onto her mother’s shoulder.
Only then did Liu Ying snap back to reality and remember they were still filming a show!
Her eyes widened in shock, her pupils trembling.
Seeing her like this, Xu Nuo was about to open her mouth to taunt her when the little one in her arms patted her.
Eyes wide, pupils trembling.
Xu Nuo also remembered they weren’t arguing in the privacy of their own home but under the live lenses of the program crew!
“Tch.”
Even though she was already embarrassed, as a sworn rival, Liu Ying maintained her composure and took the opportunity to kick Xu Nuo while she was down: “What a dull brain, to even forget we’re filming a show.”
That one remark snapped Xu Nuo out of her embarrassment, and she couldn’t resist firing back: “Oh, you peerless beauty Omega, your brain is so full of Jiang Feng or Jiang Feng during his sensitive period that you forgot too, didn’t you?”
Sparks flew as their eyes met, a battle on the verge of breaking out.
Fortunately, the producer stepped in just in time, preemptively canceling the impending showdown.
After all, while a bit of juicy gossip was entertaining, too much would only bore the audience, wouldn’t it?
The producer, beaming, positioned herself between the two, a retro-style wireless mic clipped at her waist, holding cue cards to guide the flow.
Turning to Liu Ying, the laughter in her voice unmistakable, she said, “Wow, Liu Ying, so you and Xu Nuo were high school friends? We only knew you as famous rivals in the entertainment industry this is the first we’re hearing that you two were actually high school buddies!”
“Who’s friends with her!”
“Only a dog would be friends with her!”
Two voices rang out simultaneously from either side.
Liu Ying recovered first and, right in front of the camera, scoffed at Xu Nuo. Not one to hold back, Xu Nuo promptly rolled her eyes right back.
Jiang Man sat in her mother’s lap, glancing first at her mother who had never looked so sour-faced in front of her before, then turning to look at the mother of the pretty little snake hatchling.
Oh dear, it seems Mom and the pretty auntie really don’t get along.
Resting her chubby cheeks in her hands, Jiang Man couldn’t help but fall into thought:
But what were all those things they mentioned earlier like sensitive periods, differentiation, alphas, omegas, and such?
The former college girl with clear-eyed foolishness and current fake hatchling nibbled on her tiny claw, tilting her head in confusion.
