- Chapter 29.1 - The Guardian Warrior
Watching the examiner teacher extend her hand, Jiang Man noticed Wen Qing taking a step back, her brows furrowed tightly.
Before her mind could fully process the situation, the little one instinctively darted forward, positioning herself squarely in front of the pretty girl.
Jiang Man stretched out her tiny hands, shielding Wen Qing completely behind her. Lifting her small face with a serious expression, she addressed the examiner teacher: “Teacher, sister doesn’t like this.”
As examiners at a private kindergarten, these teachers carried an air of self-important arrogance.
Even though they knew these two children came from wealthy or influential families, the examiners still acted according to their whims.
What did wealth and status matter? These children still had to obediently come to their kindergarten for interviews anyway.
Seeing the bared-teeth defiance of the little child before her, the examiner showed no respect, teasing them as if they were small animals: “If Manzai isn’t good, teacher will have to give you a failing grade.”
Having been in this world for quite some time, this was Jiang Man’s first encounter with someone so self-absorbed and disrespectful of others’ feelings.
Even though she had expressed her displeasure clearly and fiercely, this teacher acted as if she couldn’t understand the child’s words, insistently reaching out to forcibly ruffle them.
Two small children could hardly resist an adult’s strength. The teacher grabbed Jiang Man’s face, rubbing and pinching without regard for gentleness, her smiling face unmoved as the child’s delicate skin immediately turned red.
Seeing Jiang Man’s flushed cheeks, Wen Qing’s anger erupted. She rushed over, desperately trying to pull Manman away from the teacher’s grasp: “Let go of Manman!”
The children’s fierce resistance held no intimidation for these teachers who didn’t understand respecting children. Instead, they laughed heartily at the struggling little ones.
Although only the children were allowed inside the interview room, parents could choose to wait in the hallway.
The not-so-soundproof door failed to completely block the teachers’ laughter from the room.
Hearing the examiners’ laughter, the parents waiting in the corridor felt their hearts sink. They began whispering among themselves, speculating about how exceptionally talented the two children who had just entered must be to elicit such joy from those usually aloof examiners.
Jiang Feng and Liu Ying had been waiting in the corridor for what felt like ages. Seeing that half an hour had passed without the children emerging, they grew restless and stood up to go inquire.
But just as they rose, kindergarten staff approached to soothe their concerns, asking them to wait a little longer.
While they didn’t particularly care about the interview’s outcome, they had backup plans to ensure their children wouldn’t remain uneducated, they respected how seriously the children seemed to be taking this interview.
Exchanging a glance, the two women chose to sit back down and continue waiting.
After another moment, sharp cries suddenly erupted from the interview room.
Hearing the children’s screams, Jiang Feng and Liu Ying sprang to their feet, their faces darkening as they glared at the staff blocking their path.
Several staff members stood firm before them: “Ladies, please don’t interrupt our examiners’ work. Unless you don’t want your children to be admitted to our kindergarten.”
At these words, their simmering anger boiled over into full-blown fury.
Liu Ying tore off her face mask and sunglasses, tossing them into her wife’s arms. Her usually gentle and soft eyes now seemed to freeze over as she glared at the staff blocking their way.
“Do you think we desperately need a spot in this kindergarten? Or do you believe there are no other kindergartens in the entire Jing City besides yours?”
“Just because wealthy parents send their children here in droves, you’ve slapped on the label of an ‘elite kindergarten’ and started acting like you’re nobility.”
Liu Ying’s words were sharp and unsparing, her tone icy as she demanded, “Step aside now! My child is crying inside, and I’m going to get her!”
Her imposing presence forced the previously arrogant staff to retreat step by step.
In the hallway, other parents who had brought their children to multiple interviews couldn’t help but chime in with complaints of their own.
Many kindergartens in Jing City had adopted an interview system in recent years. Within a few years, some kindergartens began filtering out children from less affluent families at the source, admitting only the children of the wealthy and using this as a pretext to brand themselves as “elite kindergartens.”
Although the money came from the parents, the kindergarten staff had grown increasingly arrogant, looking down on everyone and grating on people’s nerves.
Watching Liu Ying forcefully push back the bullying staff brought a sense of satisfaction to the other parents.
Whether the staff had truly convinced themselves they were nobility or were simply treating all interviewing parents with the same dismissive attitude, they stubbornly refused to let Liu Ying and Jiang Feng enter the interview room to retrieve their child, despite knowing their identities.
Seeing that they couldn’t intimidate Liu Ying, the staff quickly called for backup, hoping to overwhelm her with numbers.
In an instant, a large group of uniformly dressed staff rushed over, blocking Liu Ying and Jiang Feng. Behind them, the child’s cries grew increasingly hoarse.
Liu Ying’s expression turned even colder as she faced the determined staff. She asked one last time, “Are you really not going to let us through to get our child?”
“That’s right!” Emboldened by their numbers, the previously retreating staff now stood their ground, defiantly meeting Liu Ying’s furious gaze. “These are our kindergarten’s rules. No matter who you are, you must abide by them!”
“Even if our child might be injured inside?”
“Even if your child is injured inside!”
The staff member felt they were merely doing their duty, completely unaware that their words had provoked the anger of everyone present.
Every parent waiting with their child for the interview cherished their little ones dearly. Hearing the staff’s dismissive attitude toward the children’s well-being made them frown in disapproval.
In a kindergarten that didn’t prioritize the children’s safety, no one could guarantee that a child wouldn’t return home injured one day, only for the kindergarten to shift the blame onto the innocent child.
Unable to stand by any longer, one parent spoke up in support of Liu Ying and Jiang Feng. The agitated staff member snapped back, “Our kindergarten’s rules are non-negotiable. If you can’t accept them, leave! Right now, we’re the ones choosing you, not the other way around!”
“Hey, how can you say that?”
The parent who had been provoked was fuming with anger. After settling the little one securely in the stroller, she rolled up her sleeves and strode over to Liu Ying, ready to argue with the staff until she got to the bottom of things.
The staff, however, were arrogant and dismissive, not taking them seriously at all.
Just as a confrontation was about to erupt, the door to the interview room swung open.
A little child with flushed cheeks and tear-streaked face came running out, sobbing uncontrollably as if fleeing from some terrifying monster. The carefully styled hair from earlier was now disheveled and messy, and the once rosy, fair cheeks were now damp and marked with visible handprints.
After running a short distance, the child looked up, searching for a familiar face. The moment their eyes met Liu Ying’s, the little one completely broke down, bursting into loud sobs and rushing toward her.
Between sobs, the child mumbled incoherently, calling out for their mother, clearly overwhelmed by immense distress.
Liu Ying immediately abandoned her argument with the staff, her only focus now on comforting the child. She shot Jiang Feng a meaningful glance, and in the next moment, he released his S-grade pheromones, exerting precise pressure on the group of staff members before them.
The overwhelming force of an S-grade alpha’s pheromones bore down, causing even the beta staff members to pale. The once boastful and arrogant staff now seemed like paper tigers, instinctively stepping aside with ashen faces as Liu Ying approached.
Jiang Man felt as though she had run for an eternity before finally collapsing into her mother’s embrace. Ignoring the pain in her cheeks, she sobbed and pointed toward the interview room, crying out, “Sister! Mom, save sister!”
Without waiting for the kneeling staff to react, Jiang Feng strode over. Hearing Man’s plea and without needing any instruction from Liu Ying, the furious Chairman Jiang quickly approached the interview room and kicked the door open with a single forceful blow.
Hearing the commotion at the door, the examiners inside instinctively turned to look. Jiang Feng saw them gathered around, with one examiner tightly restraining a beautiful child, a large hand firmly covering the little one’s mouth.
Striding forward before the examiners could react, Jiang Feng snatched the child from the examiner’s grasp.
“Our lawyers from the Jiang Corporation will be in touch to discuss today’s incident,” he said, his voice as sharp and cold as an icy blade. “Bullying a child, disregarding their autonomy, and nearly causing their death under the Child Protection Law, you’d better start calculating how many years you’ll be spending behind bars while you still have time.”
Without waiting for the hypocritical examiners to offer their excuses, Jiang Feng carried the unconscious child, who had nearly suffocated, out of the room.
The little one, who had just managed to calm down in her mother’s arms, burst into tears again at the sight of the limp, beautiful child cradled in Jiang Feng’s arms.
Although everyone had guessed the identity of the child in the interview room the moment they saw Liu Ying, in their minds, the child from the livestreams was always cheerful and sunny, dressed adorably by Liu Ying every day nothing like this disheveled, pitiful state.
The parent standing closest to Liu Ying stared in horror at Wen Qing’s limp, weakly hanging arm, her voice trembling as she stammered, “What happened to Qing?”
Noticing Liu Ying’s worried gaze, Jiang Feng walked over with Wen Qing in his arms and, in a voice just loud enough for everyone in the corridor to hear, recounted everything he had seen and heard upon entering the interview room without omitting a single detail.
Hearing this, a wave of sharp inhales echoed through the hallway.
During the interviews, the young children had to remove their masks and hats, so there was no way the interviewers could claim they hadn’t recognized the children.
But if they had recognized them and still dared to bully the children to such an extent.
The parents present began to hesitate, wondering whether they should continue with the kindergarten’s admission process.
If even Jiang Feng and Liu Ying wealthy and influential as they were had their child bullied so severely by adult interviewers, what chance did ordinary parents’ children have? Wouldn’t they suffer even more in the hands of those interviewers?
Moreover, since this elite kindergarten enrolled many children from wealthy families, the interviewers likely made efforts to maintain good relations with affluent parents.
If their own children were ever bullied, these ordinary parents would have no recourse for justice!
The corridor quickly descended into chaos. Some quick-thinking parents had already started live-streaming discreetly from the moment they heard the children’s piercing cries.
Every action and behavior of the staff at this prestigious kindergarten was now being broadcast live, captured in detail by the cameras.
News of Jiang Man and Wen Qing’s mistreatment quickly climbed the trending topics on the star network.
Thanks to Chairman Jiang’s iron-fisted approach and uncompromising stance, no matter how much the kindergarten apologized, Jiang Feng paid them no heed.
