- Chapter 13 - Fluffy Faces All Around
The residential complex that satisfied Madam Liu Ying’s standards boasted security that was second to none in the capital.
At first glance, the neighborhood seemed no different from any other parents with children, cats and dogs basking in the sun, and elderly residents chatting in small groups.
Yet, any one of these individuals, if singled out, could send ripples through their respective industries.
Even the platinum-haired kitten lazily sunbathing atop the European-style garden pavilion was a startlingly accomplished professional in its field.
But none of this mattered to the little ones.
Seated in a double stroller, Jiang Man’s tiny hands were carefully wrapped in protective mittens by Xu Nuo. Her small head, shaded by a sun hat, swiveled left and right as she took in the surroundings with wide-eyed wonder.
“Pfft-yah!”
This place was almost no different from the world she had known before!
Seeing the abundance of small animals around, Jiang Man didn’t once think of them as spiritual entities, simply assuming this was a pet-friendly community.
For an animal lover like her, it was nothing short of paradise!
Due to her circumstances in the past, Jiang Man’s closest companions had been the cats and dogs near her school and home.
Small animals were straightforward they’d nuzzle you if they liked you and keep their distance if they didn’t.
Most importantly, they would never act affectionate one day only to turn cold the next, looking down on you with judgment.
Indifference was one thing, but being hurt was another.
Jiang Man’s round, sparkling eyes roamed eagerly, and whenever she spotted a little creature she liked, her eyes would crinkle into crescents as she let out a delighted “Pfft-yah!”
The child sitting beside her followed her gaze intently.
Watching the fluffy animals that elicited such joy from Jiang Man, the other child’s already icy expression grew even colder, as if coated with a layer of frost.
Fluffy, fluffy, always fluffy.
She hated fluffiness.
Wen Qing made no effort to hide her displeasure, and Jiang Man, seated right beside her, quickly noticed.
Turning her head, Jiang Man was taken aback by Wen Qing’s frosty expression and wondered: Is my little sister an introvert? Does she not enjoy going out?
But…
Looking down at the small animals gathering around them, Jiang Man’s eyes curved into soft, happy smiles.
Spiritual beings’ likes and dislikes were purer than their owners’. They retained some of their animal instincts, naturally drawn to those who were genuine, warm, and harmless like the sun.
Especially since their owners were all navigating the turbulent waters of their respective industries.
Jiang Man’s eyes instantly locked onto a black-faced Ragdoll cat, its fur fluffy and glossy, a clear sign of excellent care from its owner.
Xu Nuo recognized this cat. As it gracefully leaped in front of Man-man and let out a sweet, high-pitched meow, she couldn’t help but make a strange, barely suppressed expression.
“Pfft-pfft!” Kitty!
Thrilled by the cat’s initiative, Jiang Man cheered softly and cautiously extended her mittened hand to show she meant no harm.
The cat rubbed its head against her covered hand, and Jiang Man’s eyes lit up. She gently pressed against the cat’s fluffy body, careful not to use too much force.
Just as soft as she’d imagined!
Jiang Man closed her eyes in contentment, rubbing her chubby cheeks against the cat’s fur.
After a moment, sensing her little sister’s aggrieved stare, she opened her eyes and saw Wen Qing looking utterly betrayed and heartbroken.
Addicted to petting the cat, Jiang Man almost forgot that her easily jealous little sister was still by her side. She couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty.
“Pfft, pfft?”
The chubby little body wriggled backward, voluntarily exposing the cat’s soft belly.
With great generosity, King Manman offered to let We Qing feel the world’s softest cat belly too!
But Wen Qing didn’t move.
The moment Jiang Man’s cheek moved away, the cat, who had been comfortably showing its belly just moments before agilely leaped up, staring at Wen Qing with wary eyes.
Unlike Jiang Man, Wen Qing wasn’t liked by these spiritual creatures.
In fact, they were highly vigilant and rejected Wen Qing.
Their dislike for Wen Qing was so obvious that even Jiang Man could sense it.
The small animals gathered around. The cat in the stroller positioned itself as a protector, arching its back between them, fur standing on end, revealing sharp claws.
Jiang Man didn’t understand their inexplicable hostility toward Wen Qing, but seeing the cat poised for battle still startled her.
Though the cat was incredibly cute, its unsheathed claws were no joke.
If she weren’t careful, a single swipe could leave several bloody marks on Wen Qing’s plump little cheeks.
The top priority was to calm the cat down and show it that Wen Qing meant no harm.
In a fluster, under the surprised and tense gazes of Xu Nuo and Wen Qing, Jiang Man reached out and hugged the bristling cat.
Suddenly being embraced left the cat momentarily dazed.
But what stunned the cat even more was when, in the next second, the very cub it was protecting anxiously propped itself up and planted a kiss on the face of the four-legged creature it deemed dangerous.
Not only was the cat bewildered, but all the watching animals were too.
“Pfft, yah, no!” Little cat, sister isn’t dangerous!
In her panic, Jiang Man even managed to utter a perfectly articulated word.
To demonstrate Wen Qing’s harmlessness to the cat, Jiang Man even snuggled into her sister’s arms, pressing close affectionately.
The two chubby little ones nuzzled each other, looking utterly adorable.
The cat keenly sensed that the dangerous aura surrounding the cub opposite it had suddenly softened.
Wen Qing’s hands were clean, without any protective mittens, so she deftly grasped Jiang Man’s hand.
The previously cold-faced cub now wore an expression as if ice and snow had melted, becoming much softer.
The cat watched the two cuddling cubs for a long time, confirming that Wen Qing truly posed no threat to Jiang Man, before jumping off the stroller. As it left, it glanced back anxiously every few steps.
On its final look back, the cat caught sight of the proud, triumphant smile on Wen Qing’s face.
The cat seemed to be the leader of the neighborhood animals. It lightly leaped onto a tree branch and meowed at the creatures gathered around the stroller, prompting them to reluctantly disperse.
After a stroll around, Jiang Man was ecstatic.
With her charming personality and adorable appearance, Jiang Man instantly became the darling of all the grandmothers and aunties in the neighborhood.
Her chubby little cheeks were rubbed rosy by passing grannies and aunties, making her look like the New Year painting doll from ancient Chinese traditions, the one pasted on walls during celebrations.
Her arms were filled with age-appropriate snacks, and returning fully loaded, Jiang Man beamed with a sweet smile.
But when she turned her head, she saw her beautiful sister empty-handed, with nothing in her arms.
Jiang Man was somewhat surprised.
She had thought that her little sister, being so pretty, would be more popular than herself. How could she not have received a single gift?
Her small brows furrowed in confusion, puffing out her cheeks.
After a moment’s thought, Jiang Man, the snack tycoon, the darling of aunts and grandmothers generously shoved the snacks from her arms toward Wen Qing.
“Pfft!” Here, little sister, eat!
The first episode after the relaunch of “Baby Observation Diary” ended right at the moment Jiang Man generously shared her snacks.
Online, discussions were buzzing with excitement.
Countless viewers who virtually “adopted” the babies were instantly charmed by the adorable Man-man, unanimously adding Jiang Man’s name as a prefix to their nicknames.
Filming the show didn’t really concern the little one much, all she had to do was be her most authentic self in front of the camera.
The cameras were discreetly installed by the production team. In the first few days, Jiang Man still remembered the filming task.
But as time went by, she gradually forgot about it.
Jiang Man was completely herself, spending her days eating and sleeping with her pretty little sister, kicking up her feet and snuggling close life couldn’t be more comfortable.
They stayed at Xu Nuo’s house for a long, long time so long that Jiang Man almost forgot about the existence of her childish mother, who always competed with her for attention.
Just as Jiang Feng, having recently spent her wife’s omega estrus and her own alpha sensitivity nesting period, arrived beaming with joy, carrying a fruit basket, and knocked on the opposite door.
Since birth, Jiang Man had never seen her mother looking so radiant and glowing, brimming with satisfaction.
It was almost as if, she had been well-fed.
But what could her mother have eaten behind her back?
The little one’s head was filled with question marks. Before she could figure it out, her mother firmly “snatched” her away from Aunt Wen Yu’s embrace.
Lifting the noticeably heavier child in her arms, Jiang Feng raised an eyebrow at her wife’s friend’s spouse and thanked her, “Man-man has been a handful for you during this time.”
Wen Yu’s fingers, suspended mid-air, twitched slightly before she calmly lowered them to her sides.
Noticing her wife’s reaction, Xu Nuo didn’t say much. She stepped forward, took her wife’s hand, and softly urged Jiang Feng to leave quickly.
Last night, the producer had suddenly messaged them, stating that for the next week, the babies would be filmed as family units, strictly prohibiting the “outsourcing” of childcare.
Thus, Jiang Feng, who had just relished a rare few days of alone time with her wife, reluctantly came to pick up her child from across the hall.
Their meeting was conducted quietly while Wen Qing was still asleep.
Given Wen Qing’s clingy nature, if she saw Jiang Man leaving, she would surely try to follow with pleading eyes.
But based on the producer’s teasing, unfinished remark, and to be safe, Xu Nuo decided it was better to upset her own daughter.
The two parties moved like secret agents on a mission swift and silent. As the child being handed over in this operation, Jiang Man was influenced by the atmosphere and remained quiet the entire way.
Carried back into her own home by her mother, Jiang Man sniffed the air, greeted by the rich scents of peach and pine.
Unlike the monotonous mint fragrance at Wen Qing’s house, the scent here made Jiang Man feel comfortable and relaxed.
Before Jiang Feng could even set her down, she looked down to see her child already blissfully closing her eyes in her arms.
The pheromones from both biological mothers were one of the essential conditions for a child’s healthy growth environment.
According to research, for young children with a tendency to differentiate into alphas or omegas, the pheromones from both biological parents can promote better growth and development.
Moreover, through perception, they can gradually learn to control their own pheromones.
Even with today’s advanced medical technology, relationships such as AA, OO, AB, and BO are still not mainstream. One reason is the inability to provide the stable and healthy pheromones that a child needs.
Across the hall, Wen Qing opened her eyes, staring blankly at the empty room before using her pheromones to sense Jiang Man’s presence.
Not in the living room.
Not on the balcony.
Not in the kitchen.
Nowhere.
Wen Qing’s gaze darkened, her expression icy.
For privacy and security, the doors were specially designed to block any intrusion or spying via pheromones, mental threads, or spiritual entities.
One, two, three…
The sound of the child crying pierced through the door, jolting awake the couple nestled together on the living room sofa.
The cries drilled directly into Xu Nuo and Wen Yu’s eardrums.
Exchanging a glance, they could see the despair in each other’s eyes they still hadn’t figured out how to deal with Wen Qing.
Torn between their clingy, crying daughter and the meddling producer itching to stir up trouble, Xu Nuo’s family found themselves in a dilemma.
Covering her wife’s ears, Wen Yu’s already somber mood sank even further.
As the leader of a corporation, Wen Yu was capable.
After a moment of thought, she quietly removed her hands from her wife’s ears and, under Xu Nuo’s puzzled gaze, murmured, “The gathering, she didn’t say it wasn’t allowed.”
At first, Xu Nuo didn’t understand.
But under her wife’s gaze, she thought it over and suddenly realized.
That’s right! The producer never said gatherings weren’t allowed! She only forbade the bad habit of letting others raise their child!
Xu Nuo looked up, her eyes sparkling with admiration for her clever wife, making the usually cold and gloomy Wen Yu blush.
Xu Nuo loved seeing her like this.
Unable to resist, she sat up, wrapped her arms around Wen Yu’s neck, and planted a firm kiss on her beautiful cheek.
Before Wen Yu could react, Xu Nuo scrambled up and hurried to the nursery, scooping up the crying Wen Qing and speaking to her as if she were an adult, discussing the idea of a gathering with another family.
Wen Yu followed Xu Nuo into the room, her gaze heavy as she watched the alpha child sitting in her wife’s lap.
As a beta, Xu Nuo couldn’t smell her lover’s pheromones or see her spiritual entity.
So, she had no way of knowing that the room was filled with, and she was tightly enveloped by, a subtly shifting mint-green pheromone.
Within it, emotions of anxiety, tension, unease, and darkness wove together like a tightly knit net, trapping the oblivious Xu Nuo without a breath of air.
But her atrophied beta glands left her unable to perceive or respond to it.
All those twisted, gloomy, and frantic emotions were absorbed by the chubby, adorable-looking child sitting nearby.
What kind of person would a child raised in such an environment become?
Would she turn out as distorted and gloomy as her mother or even more deranged?
In the entire room, the only one who cared could neither perceive nor change the situation; the other two remained indifferent.
Sensing Wen Yu’s gaze, the child lifted her emotionless eyes to meet it.
Their gazes briefly met in the air before both mother and daughter averted their eyes.
Indeed, not every alpha cub was as endearing and delightful as the one named Manzai from Jiang Feng’s family.
Withdrawing her gaze, Wen Yu walked over to Xu Nuo’s side to assist her.
