Reborn as a Scummy Alpha, I Became Every Heroine's Obsession - Chapter 44
Because Liu Huaiqing had spoken with too much force, a line of fresh blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
Wen Rui had just finished throwing away some medical waste when she saw the blood at Liu Huaiqing’s lips. She narrowed her eyes slightly.
Xiao Zhi, standing nearby, felt a sudden jolt in his heart. He quickly turned around and stepped in front of Liu Huaiqing to shield her.
“Our boss is this badly hurt, and none of you care. Not only are you ignoring her injuries, you’re even poking at her emotional wounds. All of you together, and still not a shred of decency. This is heartless.”
Oh no. Boss just drank a blood pack. Was there too much left in her mouth?
That long line of blood looked too fake. If someone noticed, they would be in big trouble.
Feng Jiying gave a quiet chuckle. “Miss Liu is too clever to let herself get hurt easily. If she slipped up this time, there must be another reason. Since that’s the case, she should focus on healing. Gu Qiqi is clumsy and likely won’t be able to care for her properly. If needed, I can help arrange a private doctor for Miss Liu.”
Liu Huaiqing’s earlier words were like fists striking cotton, having no effect on Feng Jiying at all.
Liu Huaiqing coughed again.
This time, she spat blood onto the bedsheet in front of her, staining it a wide patch of dark red.
Wen Rui frowned. “The wound is on her shoulder. How could she be coughing up this much blood? She was fine just a moment ago. The lung CT showed no internal damage. Why did things suddenly get worse after Gu Qiqi showed up? Could it be that the two of you are incompatible?”
Wen Rui seemed to understand something but didn’t speak directly. Instead, her words were laced with sarcasm as she hinted at Liu Huaiqing.
Xiao Zhi waved his hand impatiently. “Alright, alright. Our boss is only staying here to rest for a while. As soon as she can walk, we’ll leave. No need for your disapproval.”
Just then, Xiao Bai entered and saw Xiao Zhi waving his arms angrily. She immediately scowled. “Is that how you speak to our CEO?”
Xiao Zhi’s eyes turned red with frustration. “You again? Didn’t get enough last time? Let’s go then. Who’s afraid of who?”
Xiao Bai lifted her chin. “Fine. I’m not scared of you.”
Liu Huaiqing watched silently as Xiao Zhi walked out in a huff.
“I’m fine,” she said weakly. “Miss Gu clearly doesn’t care about me, so why would she be concerned about how badly I’m injured? I don’t need fake sympathy or pity.”
With that, Liu Huaiqing pulled off the bloodstained blanket and stood up. The movement pulled at her shoulder wound, causing the bandage to soak with even more blood.
Gu Qiqi was still thinking about what Min Zhiya had said earlier. Liu Huaiqing had gotten hurt because of her. Someone wanted to harm her and ended up dragging Liu Huaiqing into it.
Feng Jiying had been right about one thing. Liu Huaiqing was not as simple as she appeared.
If Liu Huaiqing got injured, there was no way it was by accident. It must have been deliberate, with a motive behind it.
As the king of the black market, Liu Huaiqing had an extensive power network. Whoever attacked her might be connected to the mysterious half-month that had gone missing from her timeline.
System: Congratulations, host. You have triggered the main character questline.
System: Due to the growth of your self-awareness and desire to become the protagonist, the system has automatically upgraded. You have now been assigned protagonist-level missions. Once you complete them all, you will become the central figure in the game and change your cannon-fodder fate. Please do your best to complete your missions.
Liu Huaiqing staggered as she tried to walk. Just as she was about to fall, she leaned forward—right in Gu Qiqi’s direction.
Gu Qiqi had no choice but to catch her.
Behind them came the sound of a cold snort.
Feng Jiying’s expression was indifferent, his aura distant and icy. “Since Miss Liu is not seriously hurt, and someone has already volunteered to take care of her, I’ll be going now.”
The air carried the scent of bitter coffee, now tinged with something slightly sour.
Without looking back, Feng Jiying turned and left.
The frustration in his chest refused to ease. He just wanted to get away from everything and find some peace.
Wen Rui still wore her fox-like smile, elegant but empty.
“Well, since little Qiqi has so generously decided to stay and take care of Lawyer Liu, I’ll go attend to the other students.”
Wen Rui also left.
Gu Qiqi felt like everyone had misunderstood something.
And Feng Jiying seemed… angry.
But she had never agreed to stay and take care of Liu Huaiqing. Who would want to be stuck with someone so troublesome, someone calculating and dangerous?
Now that the treatment room was empty, Gu Qiqi dropped the polite act and asked directly, “Have you figured out who attacked you? Why do they want to get rid of me, and why involve you?”
Liu Huaiqing sat on the clean hospital bed. She wore a loose hospital gown that revealed her delicate collarbone. The gown’s deep V-cut exposed a large portion of her pale skin.
She already looked like a fragile beauty from the Jiangnan region. Her face was pale, and her shallow, unsteady breathing only added to that image.
“If I had all the answers, do you think I’d still be lying here?” she replied faintly.
Gu Qiqi narrowed her eyes. She hated Liu Huaiqing’s roundabout way of speaking. It gave her a headache.
“I was on a mission in the border zone for half a month. I woke up back at Military Academy 330, injured and confused. But strangely, I have no memory of those two weeks.”
Liu Huaiqing was visibly surprised. Her long, narrow eyes shifted, revealing a moment of thought.
Gu Qiqi continued, “Considering the relationship between us, I see no reason to hide anything from you. I hope you’ll do the same. Tell me the truth for both our safety.”
Liu Huaiqing gave a quiet laugh. Her voice was soft and light. “Is that so? It sounds like you were traumatized and chose to forget. You probably asked Wen Cheng, right? Looks like he didn’t tell you.”
She gently wiped the fresh blood from the corner of her lips. “If that’s the case, I’m afraid I can’t tell you either.”
Gu Qiqi pressed her lips together. “Why not?”
Liu Huaiqing responded calmly, “Why else? For my own protection. My identity as the king of the black market can’t be exposed. Just because you found out by accident doesn’t mean I can reveal it to the public. Even Wen Cheng didn’t tell you. If I let this information slip and someone else hears, my life could be in danger. Miss Gu, interstellar society isn’t as safe as it looks. Beneath the calm surface, there are always hidden currents. Any one of them can destroy a person completely.”
“Of course, there is one other way. It might help you find the answers you’re looking for.”
Gu Qiqi already felt that nothing good was coming.
Liu Huaiqing lifted her head. Her sharp eyes locked onto Gu Qiqi’s face. “Become my Alpha. Submit to me forever. Promise never to betray me. Then, you will share everything I have.”
Inside the Villa
The Grand Elder sat quietly at his desk, flipping through more than a hundred death reports.
His secretary knocked and entered.
The Grand Elder wore a traditional robe. His hair was streaked with black and white. His wrinkled face was stretched into a chilling smile.
“Grand Elder, everything has been taken care of. The collateral relatives of the Gu family in that border village—our people wiped them all out. Gu Qingyun’s whereabouts are unknown. Gu Qiqi has lost her memory of that half-month. She knows nothing now. Military Academy 330 has chosen to cover it up. I’ve already handled the principal.”
The Grand Elder turned his white jade ring slowly. “Well done.”
“Grand Elder, should we dispose of the bodies? Even though it’s the border zone, someone might discover them eventually.”
The Grand Elder raised his hand, and the secretary immediately bowed his head.
“The border zone has always been chaotic. Leave the bodies for now. Keep a close eye on Gu Qiqi—and also that illegitimate daughter from the Liu family, Liu Huaiqing.”
The secretary looked puzzled. “Liu Huaiqing?”
The Grand Elder gave a cold laugh. “Gu Qiqi has stirred up unrest in Central City. The Federation President’s health is worsening, and many are growing impatient. No one knows why he insists on keeping her alive. Some believe she’s his last secret weapon. That’s why everyone wants her gone. Now that her connection to the Gu family is becoming clear, the Liu and Wen families are growing suspicious. They would rather kill a thousand by mistake than let a single threat escape.”
“Grand Elder, if I may be so bold, what does this have to do with congratulating Liu Huaiqing?”
The Grand Elder replied, “The Liu family patriarch was too indulgent in his youth. Now, very few of the Liu descendants have strong natural potential. On the contrary, this illegitimate daughter brought back from the border region, Liu Huaiqing, is becoming increasingly impressive. She has transferred 80 percent of the Liu family’s assets under her control. I heard she was recently injured, but the entire group that hurt her has already been eliminated.”
“A young Omega who grew up in the border region returned and swiftly cleared out the hidden rivals within her own family, gradually consolidating power. Yet, she hasn’t rushed to claim the patriarch’s seat. Instead, she uses the old patriarch like a puppet, pulling the strings from behind. This Omega is not someone to be underestimated.”
“The three major families each have an Omega closely connected to Gu Qiqi. If we don’t act soon, things could spiral out of control.”
The secretary added, “Gu Qiqi has never signed a mandatory bonding period agreement with Liu Huaiqing. And just this past week, she’s been frequently visiting the Feng family villa. One of the maids reported that Feng Jiying has been carrying the scent of an Alpha’s pheromones.”
The Grand Elder smiled, a pleased glint in his eyes as a new scheme began to form in his mind.
“Arrange for me to meet with Feng Jiying today. I want to see whether she’s aiming for the Feng family’s inheritance or for Gu Qiqi, that Alpha from the border region.”
Gu Qiqi walked silently out of the school clinic, lost in thought.
Whether it was her mood or mere coincidence, the weather today was just as gloomy. Thick clouds covered the sky, and the sun had yet to show itself.
The air was heavy and gray, and occasional gusts of cold wind blew through the campus. It felt like rain could fall at any moment.
System: Host, don’t be so depressed. Try to think positively. Maybe nothing happened during that half-month mission. The game system might’ve skipped it simply because there was no storyline written for that time.
As Gu Qiqi continued walking, a sudden high-pitched screech behind her made her jump. She quickly dodged to the side and turned to look.
She saw a disheveled and wild-looking Alpha stumbling out of the school clinic, screaming and thrashing.
It was Zhao Ruri.
Zhao Zhongtian’s younger brother.
What happened to him? How did he end up like this?
Gu Qiqi frowned and quietly followed him.
Zhao Ruri ran like a headless chicken, aimlessly charging toward the school gate. Security tried to stop him, but he was an Alpha with A+ mental strength. In his state of lost consciousness, he released waves of uncontrollable psychic pressure. The guards couldn’t restrain him and were easily pushed aside. Zhao Ruri broke through and ran out of the school.
System: Host, the system detects that Zhao Ruri is part of a key storyline. Follow him and see what’s going on.
Since the system had spoken, Gu Qiqi had no choice but to follow.
She didn’t want to get involved. Anything related to Zhao Zhongtian was like holding a burning coal in her hand.
Zhao Ruri, completely out of control, snarled at anyone he saw and suddenly started attacking people without warning.
People nearby quickly scattered to avoid him.
At that moment, a group of older students appeared at the far end of the road.
Gu Qiqi recognized them. They were second-year students at Military Academy 330, all Alphas. At school, they acted one way. Outside, they were completely different. They also loved sucking up to Wen Cheng and seemed favored by that twisted principal.
The group whistled when they spotted the rampaging Zhao Ruri. Their eyes lit up as they exchanged glances and walked toward him.
“Why is this little lunatic out again? Didn’t the principal say that whenever we see this nutcase, we should beat him up, then clean him off and take him to the principal?”
As they moved closer, they began releasing hostile psychic pressure.
Gu Qiqi hesitated. She wasn’t sure if she should step in.
She hid in a corner, not showing herself.
To her surprise, Zhao Ruri seemed to recognize them. The moment he saw their faces, he went completely berserk and charged forward. But he was struck down in one punch by a senior student.
He let out a wild, incoherent scream.
Four against one. It was a brutal, one-sided beating.
The older students showed no mercy, clearly unconcerned about whether Zhao Ruri lived or died.
“Damn border region scum. How dare he attack us first? If it weren’t for the principal’s interest in him, I’d have killed him already.”
“He should be grateful. That body of his still has some research value. The principal wants us to keep him alive. Otherwise, I’d have thrown him in our backyard pond to feed the fish.”
System: Host, if you don’t do something now, Zhao Ruri might actually die.
Gu Qiqi was not some saint with overflowing kindness.
She knew that the moment she stepped in, she would be pulled into a bigger mess.
Especially since Zhao Ruri was Zhao Zhongtian’s beloved little brother, and Zhao Zhongtian was the main character of the game system.
Every time something like this happened, it annoyed her. Why was it always up to her to save the protagonist’s family?
Frustrated, Gu Qiqi released a surge of psychic energy filled with resentment. Her overwhelming presence immediately stunned the four older Alphas.
Their faces turned pale, and their bodies froze in place, as if paralyzed. They could only twist their necks stiffly to look toward the terrifying source of power—Gu Qiqi, stepping out of the shadows.
“What level of psychic strength is this? It’s terrifying.”
In the world of Alphas, the stronger ones naturally suppressed the weaker. Alphas were proud by nature. They admired and feared power, especially when it was far beyond their own.
The psychic pressure she released made it difficult for them to breathe. Their hearts raced uncontrollably, and some even looked on the verge of losing control of their bodily functions.
Before Gu Qiqi even raised a hand, they were already panicking and running away as fast as they could.
Gu Qiqi let out a frustrated breath and looked down at Zhao Ruri, who lay on the ground, barely conscious.
His entire body was covered in bruises and swelling. Some bones might have been broken.
But his eyes glared up at her fiercely.
Gu Qiqi clicked her tongue. Great. She had picked up a huge problem.
“Is this guy actually insane?”
She bent down slightly to check Zhao Ruri’s condition. But before she could touch him, a furious shout rang out behind her.
“Gu Qiqi! What did you do to my brother?”
Zhao Zhongtian appeared, his face pale with fury. His expression was so dark it looked like someone owed him billions. He stared at Gu Qiqi like she had just murdered his entire family.
Gu Qiqi immediately sensed danger from behind and swiftly stood up, dodging the incoming attack.
“Hey, could you at least figure out what’s going on first?”
Of course. Just as she expected. Nothing good ever came from crossing paths with Zhao Zhongtian.
“There were a few senior Alpha students who nearly beat your brother to death. If I hadn’t been here, he might not have survived.”
“Don’t think I’ll believe a word you say.” Zhao Zhongtian immediately launched a psychic assault, bombarding her with attack after attack. Gu Qiqi was forced to dodge and retreat.
He knelt down next to Zhao Ruri, frantically checking his injuries. His hands clenched into fists, and his bloodshot eyes were filled with rage.
He bit down hard, and his fists trembled with fury as his knuckles cracked.
“Gu… Qiqi…”
His voice was like a demon crawling out of the underworld, every syllable filled with venom and hatred.
Gu Qiqi’s expression darkened. She despised people who lashed out without understanding the situation.
“Zhao Zhongtian, I already told you. Your brother didn’t end up like this because of me. Just now, a group of older Alphas passed by. Your brother was mentally unstable and ran outside the school, attacking everyone he saw. They may have seen his actions as provocation and responded by beating him up. They even mentioned the principal…”
When Gu Qiqi said that final sentence, Zhao Zhongtian suddenly lost control, attacking her like someone who had gone completely mad.
Gu Qiqi did not want to fight him.
“Can you please just listen to reason?” she shouted. Her movements were sharp and agile. Zhao Zhongtian couldn’t even get close enough to touch her.
Suddenly, blood-tears flowed from the corners of Zhao Zhongtian’s eyes. The veins in his arms bulged. Everything he had tried so hard to ignore was now brutally exposed by Gu Qiqi’s words.
His brother had lost his mind. The principal still refused to let him go. No wonder his brother had suddenly disappeared from the infirmary that afternoon.
He had sacrificed everything, yet he could not even protect the only family he had left.
Why?
He hated the injustice of the world. He hated Central City. He hated the inequality and the power that ruled over people’s lives. He hated everyone.
“If you were dead, would my life finally return to the peace it once had?”
Gu Qiqi said nothing.
Each of Zhao Zhongtian’s attacks was aimed directly at her vital points. It was clear he truly intended to kill her.
Gu Qiqi could not understand how someone like him, a person blessed with the fate of a main character, could say something so cruel.
Had her life as cannon fodder not been difficult enough already?
She finally decided that she would no longer dodge. She would fight back. She would snap Zhao Zhongtian out of his madness with force if necessary.
She caught his attack, turned her body, and landed a punch directly on his chest.
She thought he would block it. Instead, Zhao Zhongtian gave her a sinister smile and let the full force hit him. His ribs shattered completely, his sternum fractured, and blood poured from his mouth onto the ground.
Gu Qiqi pulled back her fist, which had been charged with psychic force. She stared at him.
Just at that moment, Wen Cheng arrived with several other Alphas, clearly having sensed the intense fluctuation of energy.
As she turned the corner, she saw Gu Qiqi standing there without a single injury, surrounded by a murderous aura. In front of her lay Zhao Ruri, nearly unconscious, and Zhao Zhongtian, barely able to breathe, his chest crushed.
Zhao Zhongtian coughed violently and pointed toward Wen Cheng.
“Senior Wen, you have to stand up for us. Gu Qiqi tried to kill me and my brother.”
Gu Qiqi immediately responded, “Wen Cheng, that is not true.”
Blood covered Zhao Zhongtian’s mouth. He gritted his teeth. “Gu Qiqi killed people in the border region. Now she’s doing the same here in Central City. Senior, you must help me and my brother get justice.”
Wen Cheng frowned. Gu Qiqi’s overwhelming psychic energy still blanketed both Zhao brothers, lingering in the air like an invisible storm.
Gu Qiqi tried to explain. “It’s not what it looks like. Just now, a group of second-year Alphas attacked Zhao Ruri. I saved him. But Zhao Zhongtian refused to listen and claimed I hurt his brother. Then he came at me. I had no choice but to respond.”
Wen Cheng shook her head. “That still does not justify using such excessive force. You are all classmates. Were you really trying to kill them? Someone, get Zhao Zhongtian and Zhao Ruri to the infirmary. As for what actually happened, the principal will make the final decision.”
Gu Qiqi looked at Wen Cheng’s firm expression and felt a chill settle in her chest. Something was very wrong. She realized she had fallen into Zhao Zhongtian’s trap.
She quickly called out to the system in her mind.
There was no response. The system was completely silent.
Not only had others betrayed her, but even the system had turned its back on her.
Gu Qiqi knew there was no escaping this mess. She had walked straight into this twisted plot.
But she would not become Zhao Zhongtian’s stepping stone.
If a fight was inevitable, then she would fight for everything. Even if something was not originally hers, she would take it anyway.
Gu Qiqi spent three days in the interrogation room.
This time, things were different. There were no special treatments.
Wen Cheng opened the heavy door and walked in.
“I fought for the best result for you,” she said. “As long as you admit that you were the one who injured Zhao Zhongtian and Zhao Ruri, you will be expelled from Central City, but you can return safely to the border region.”
Gu Qiqi’s hair was slightly messy. Her face was expressionless as she stared at Wen Cheng.
“So you really believe it was me? You think I am lying?”
Wen Cheng paused for a moment, then answered, “The surveillance footage at the scene was destroyed. There is no solid evidence proving you were not the one who injured them.”
She glanced toward the camera in the corner of the room, then walked over and leaned in close to Gu Qiqi’s ear.
Her voice dropped to a whisper, wrapped in psychic shielding so that no device could detect it.
“The moment you entered Central City, someone began watching you. Now that you are a student of Military Academy 330, you cannot freely travel to and from the border region. You want to know what happened during that half-month mission, don’t you? Returning to the border region is the only way you will ever find the truth.”
After speaking, she stood up again and said in a calm voice, “I am sorry, Gu Qiqi. We gathered input from the Omegas who have spent the most time with you. Feng Jiying refused to post bail. She refused to testify on your behalf.”
She paused again.
“And she gave you the lowest possible grade, a failing score of C, on your year-end evaluation.”
