Chapter 104: Reunion – Reuniting in Your Past, Meeting for the First Time in Your Future…
Peering through the window from inside the wind chime, Song Yin saw a bamboo cradle with various colorful toys hanging above it.
Someone approached holding a baby and carefully placed the infant on the bed.
The baby’s small face was wrinkled, and they were sleeping soundly with their brow furrowed.
The woman who set the baby down looked up at the wind chime Song Yin was possessing.
Song Yin was momentarily stunned, simply because the woman’s face resembled her Master’s, especially the eyes, which were upturned at the corners, seeming to carry a hint of a smile even when not smiling, inviting closeness.
So Song Yin looked at the baby covered by a small blanket in the cradle, discerning a faint shadow of her Master in that wrinkled face.
The woman sat beside them watching, occasionally pulling up the blanket for the restless child.
It was Master. Song Yin immediately signaled Eleven on the roof. Eleven was hiding furtively on the light bulb above.
Song Yin had rarely used Eleven since its creation, but now it was perfect for recording. Song Yin excitedly gave Eleven many instructions, including recording and protection.
Although she had already guessed, the reality laid out before Song Yin still made her excited.
The entire story began here.
Song Yin’s heart pounded wildly. She was always angry, angry that she met Master so late, angry that those people shared so many memorable moments with Master, but now she didn’t have to be angry anymore.
Song Yin looked at the baby’s fuzzy cheeks, thinking they looked like a pink peach. She couldn’t help but reach out a hand, then quickly withdrew it.
The quiet atmosphere was suddenly broken by a group of people, pushing and laughing.
The two people took off their bamboo hats, complaining about the scorching sun while gathering around the cradle to stare at the sleeping child.
One of them put her hat back on. She was wearing a rather plain floral short-sleeved top and smiled, causing wrinkles around her eyes. “Aiya, this child looks just like you. Have you thought of a name, my sister?”
The woman sitting by the cradle smiled gently. “Not yet.”
Another person fanned herself with her hat. “Alas, naming is a serious matter; you must think carefully.”
With that, this person enthusiastically began to ponder. Suddenly, she slapped her thigh. “How about Shen Wenli? Literate and sensible, ensuring success in the imperial exams later.”
The woman in the floral shirt teased her, “You’re starting to use educated language; aren’t you ashamed?”
The warm-hearted one said loudly, “Hey! You talk with educated language to educated people! I see the sister doesn’t like that name. How about Shen He (Shen Lotus)? The lotus flowers in that pond are beautiful.”
Shen Shuyao looked down in thought, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. “Shen He is indeed a good name.”
Song Yin, inside the wind chime, was getting anxious. Seeing the warm-hearted person’s look of triumph, Song Yin could hold back no longer.
Song Yin flew out of the wind chime and then borrowed the body of the woman in the floral shirt.
Song Yin bundled the original soul aside. After taking control of the body, she swayed once, finally clearly seeing the child close by.
A tiny bundle, with rosy cheeks, wearing a white baby cap, sleeping soundly.
Song Yin suddenly forgot what she intended to do. Her eyes only saw the peacefully sleeping person. She reached out to touch them.
The child slowly opened their eyes. They stared straight at Song Yin’s face. After a curious look, they suddenly giggled.
Song Yin carefully held Master’s hand. The other person smiled even more happily.
Song Yin’s heart suddenly softened like water. She momentarily forgot all the hatred, just quietly watching, watching the child smile.
“She really likes you! Why don’t you, Sister Shen, give me an idea? What name would be good?” Shen Shuyao looked at Song Yin, her smile gentle.
Although it was a kind gaze, Song Yin felt somewhat scorched by it. She pulled her bamboo hat down further. “Call her Shen Yirong. Yì from beautiful (昳), Róng from easy (容).”
Song Yin was afraid the other might not understand and gestured in the air, but she still dared not look up.
Shen Shuyao clearly understood. Although she found this person a bit strange, she didn’t pay it much mind. “That name is apt and pleasant to hear; it’s a beautiful name.”
The person in the cradle reached out to her. Song Yin’s expression softened. She said warmly, “No, it’s to hope that she won’t lose hope in the future and that everything will be easy for her.”
Shen Shuyao was taken aback. Villagers often offered blessings, but they were usually general good wishes for a new life. If it were any other child, they would say such pleasantries.
But this tone was different. It sounded like she had known the child for a long time, or perhaps had come specifically for this child.
Song Yin also realized her slip-up. She quickly withdrew and flew back into the wind chime.
The wind chime chimed softly. The child in the cradle focused on the wind chime again, smiling and reaching out to her.
Song Yin felt the air here was overly warm, but she couldn’t stay. She had to go back. So, she looked up at Eleven and transferred all her authority to this child who couldn’t speak yet.
With surging reluctance, Song Yin left this place.
The sound of the child’s crying penetrated the glass and dissolved into the wind. Song Yin suppressed her emotions, warning herself.
Don’t look back.
They would surely reunite and watch the snow together, making up for all the lost time.
Yet, after she could no longer hear the crying, her heart couldn’t settle down.
It seemed like something bad was about to happen.
She panicked. “Master.”
Bai Yuzan carried the person close to the bed. She said without ceremony, “Trouble, move aside and let her lie down.”
Su Zhao, who occupied Song Yin’s body, nodded and stood up. But she hadn’t walked in too long, and a lack of coordination almost caused her to fall to the ground.
Fortunately, Bai Yuzan caught her, preventing an embarrassment.
Bai Yuzan scrutinized Song Yin. “Just unconscious for a while, and you can’t even walk anymore.”
Su Zhao imitated Song Yin. “None of your business. How is she?”
Bai Yuzan was used to Song Yin’s bad temper. She tucked Shen Yirong into the blanket, sighing as she saw the tears constantly falling from the corners of the other’s eyes.
“It’s not a life-and-death situation yet, but I’m afraid that when she wakes up, her Dao heart will instantly shatter. However, now that you’re awake, the risk is smaller.”
Bai Yuzan tidied up the nearby medicine bowl as she spoke. She handed the medicine bowl to Song Yin. “The outside is chaos. Su Zhao is desperate and has split her soul into multiple parts. Who knows what she plans to do?”
“Now that Shen Yirong is down, the Demon Palace needs you to take charge. This is a fragment of Su Zhao’s soul.”
Bai Yuzan held out the lamp, her eyes remaining fixed on it.
Su Zhao felt the aura of her own soul inside the lamp. She looked up at Bai Yuzan. “Still can’t let go?”
Seeing herself exposed, Bai Yuzan turned away, shaking her head lightly. “After all, she is an old friend. The longer one lives, the fewer friends one has. Please forgive this weakness, Venerable.”
Su Zhao looked at the red bloodline on the other’s neck. She lowered her eyes to the lamp in her hand, then adopted the tone Song Yin should have. “Your affairs are none of my concern.”
Bai Yuzan was slightly stung. “Hmph. Anyway, I’m here. Venerable, please focus on the external matters. I believe your methods can make Su Zhao reveal something.”
Su Zhao’s eyes flickered slightly. She snorted coldly. “Of course.”
Before leaving, she looked at Shen Yirong lying on the bed. After a moment of thought, she took out the All-Encompassing Mirror from the nearby space.
She placed the All-Encompassing Mirror next to Shen Yirong’s pillow.
Bai Yuzan frowned. “How did you get this?”
Su Zhao smiled proudly. “Stole it.”
Two words, stated casually, but Bai Yuzan knew the other truly had the ability. Her forced composure was also at its limit. She sat down on the chair by the bed and closed her eyes, feigning sleep.
She wasn’t exposed; Bai Yuzan wasn’t on guard against her.
Su Zhao wanted to walk forward, but still unsteady and unaccustomed to it, she simply put her hands behind her back and floated into the air.
Leaving the cave dwelling where Shen Yirong was, Song Yin (Su Zhao) looked up and saw the sky gradually turning black with resentment. The patrolling people outside the cave had returned to normal and respectfully saluted Song Yin upon seeing her.
Su Zhao flew past them with a cold face. She used her sword to fly high into the sky, watching the Demon Palace populace bustling below.
At this altitude, she could still see their faces, what clothes they were wearing, and what was embroidered on their clothes.
Su Zhao made herself fly higher until the people below looked like tiny black dots, like ants, their details no longer visible.
Spiritual energy surged within her. Su Zhao was surprised to find that Song Yin was not purely a demonic cultivator but was in a state of spiritual-demonic co-existence.
Su Zhao had never seen this before, but none of it mattered.
What mattered was that Song Yin was incredibly powerful, capable of eliminating most cultivators and demons in this world.
To prevent any accidents, Su Zhao released her other soul fragment and then merged it.
After the merger, Su Zhao raised her hand. Thunderclouds gathered around her. The lightning converged, turning into the long whip in her hand.
The voice of the Heavenly Dao echoed in her ear. “Do you intend to destroy the Demon Palace along with your two old friends?”
The whip in Su Zhao’s hand crackled. If she swung the whip with full force, the Demon Palace below would turn into a hellscape.
The Sword Venerable and the Pill Venerable would both be annihilated in the lightning.
Su Zhao did not rush to swing the whip but asked with a smile, “Why? What kind of fate have you given me this time?”
The Heavenly Dao’s voice was flat. “Your fate is something I can only observe.”
“Then you are truly useless. If you were slightly useful, perhaps none of this would be happening.”
Su Zhao spoke harsh words gently, then sneered. “You can’t solve my problems. Stay put and watch me complete all of this.”
The Heavenly Dao sighed softly. She then asked, “If you are so heartless, why fly so high? Is it so you can see?”
Su Zhao’s brow furrowed. “Noisy.”
The Heavenly Dao’s voice instantly vanished from her ear.
Su Zhao gripped the lightning whip tightly. As she raised her hand, the sound of thunder became even more terrifying. The nearby evil spirits also suffered, instantly turning into ashes.
The busy people on the ground were startled by the thunder and looked up to see their own Demon Venerable.
“It’s the Venerable. What is the Venerable doing?”
“The Venerable looks like she fears nothing.”
“Yes, yes.”
“Don’t you think the Venerable’s eyes look a bit strange?”
Qi Wu and others who knew the inside story also looked up. With just one look, Qi Wu sensed the murderous intent.
Qi Wu’s expression changed. She immediately cast a spell. The plants within the Demon Palace grew wildly, obscuring the view of the people looking up from below.
Thunder boomed with white light. The thunder was deafening, causing everyone to instinctively cover their ears, showing pained expressions. The plants covering their heads were split into ashes.
Qi Wu’s face instantly paled. She staggered back two steps, caught by the Fifth Protector.
Ignoring her own injuries, she shouted, “Escape! Run underground!”
Su Zhao coldly looked at the black dots scattering like birds below. She located Qi Wu by her voice.
Then, she raised her whip and struck down again.
Before Su Zhao could react, the Fifth Elder pulled the silk threads in her hands, and countless puppets latched onto the lightning whip.
Amidst the startling thunder, the broken limbs of the puppets constantly fell. The Fifth Elder furiously pulled the threads again, and more puppets rushed forward.
Qi Wu made the plants grow again, and vines wrapped around the lightning whip.
But Song Yin’s power backfired, causing further injuries to Qi Wu and the others. Seeing her spiritual energy nearly depleted, Qi Wu looked at the panicked eyes of the people in the palace. She swallowed a bottle of pills, enduring the injuries to confront the lightning whip.
But it still wasn’t enough.
Suddenly, drum sounds rang out. Yao Ling violently struck the drum surface with her hammers. Within the drumbeats, Qi Wu and the others slowly stopped feeling physical pain, and their spiritual energy surged through their bodies.
A massive white snake emerged, accompanied by firelight. It opened its mouth and roared at Song Yin high in the sky, then spat out ice spikes. These ice spikes flew directly toward Su Zhao in the sky.
The Fourth Protector, standing on the snake’s head, laughed wildly, stretching out her hand. Firelight broke through the dark clouds, raining down a spectacular fire shower.
The ice spikes went up, and the fire shower came down.
Su Zhao stood amidst it all, chuckling. She effortlessly withdrew the lightning whip and swung it casually. The firelight vanished, and the ice spikes were shattered into powder.
She grew tired of this game of playing house, and her gaze fell into the distance.
Outside Song Yin’s cave dwelling, Bai Yuzan stood there.
The distance was quite far, and she couldn’t see her face clearly. So, she raised her hand and lifted the whip.
