[Quick Transmigration] Black Lotus Upgrade System - Chapter 3
“Stay away from my wife.” The cold voice shattered the terrifying atmosphere.
Yu Xingliang turned his head and saw Muxing walking slowly out of the night fog carrying half a roasted chicken, looking just like a savior.
The village head’s expression shifted slightly, but he quickly recovered: “Yellow-haired brat, you say Zheng Lele is your wife, but he is clearly a man.”
A wave of regret washed over Yu Xingliang. If he had only listened to Muxing and obediently played the mute!
“He is a man, and he is also my wife.” Muxing stated firmly, his pitch-black eyes shining brightly through his bangs.
Yu Xingliang felt deeply moved. The next sequence of events had to be the hero saving the beauty, or rather, hero saving hero!
Muxing charged forward in a single bound. Although blocked by the villagers, Muxing moved with agile grace, dodging their capture like a slippery fish and nearing Yu Xingliang’s side in a flash.
Yu Xingliang eagerly opened his arms, preparing to welcome Muxing.
Bang! The sound of a gunshot rang out, instantly bringing silence to the scene.
The village head raised his gun high, his gaze fierce: “Yellow-haired brat, take one more step and see what happens!”
Muxing froze in place, not daring to move further. Seeing this, the villagers standing nearby immediately stepped forward and pinned Muxing’s arms tightly behind his back.
Yu Xingliang, who had just been cheering Muxing on, was completely stunned. He stood like a wooden doll, motionless, even forgetting to lower his arms.
“Yellow-haired brat, do you take me for an idiot?” The village head aimed the muzzle of his gun straight at Yu Xingliang: “How on earth could this Zheng Lele possibly be your wife!”
Muxing’s jawline tightened, the half-roasted chicken in his hand still steaming: “Zheng Lele is my wife.”
Yu Xingliang was already someone ready to welcome death; the worst that could happen was taking a bullet. But Muxing had saved his life, and he could not let him suffer this undeserved disaster because of him.
Before the village head could take things seriously, Yu Xingliang stepped forward right on cue, spreading his arms to shield Muxing.
It seemed none of them expected Zheng Lele to make such a move, and for a moment, everyone froze in place.
“Village head, please calm down!” Yu Xingliang naturally preferred men, and pretending to be lovers was nothing difficult: “Muxing and I are truly in love. I beg the village head to spare this pair of desperate lovers.”
Having invested in a few melodramatic trash dramas, Yu Xingliang could churn out tragic lines on the spot.
As soon as these words left his mouth, everyone present, including Muxing, was dumbfounded.
Yu Xingliang continued making things up: “It was a dark and windy night. Everyone knows I have cross-dressing preferences, so that day I was wearing sexy black stockings and a little camisole, walking through a pitch-black alley.”
Hearing this, Muxing cast an incredulous look at Yu Xingliang’s back.
“Suddenly, a group of ruffians appeared and used the moonlight to catch a glimpse of my stunning beauty!”
“Zheng Lele, didn’t you just say it was a pitch-black alley?” A villager listening closely to the story raised an objection: “If it was a pitch-black alley, how could those ruffians see your stunning beauty?”
Yu Xingliang was already annoyed by having to make up the story, and the villager’s interruption caused him to stamp his feet in frustration: “I already said, using the moonlight!”
“Your story lacks logical consistency!”
“Can’t I generate my own light source?!” Yu Xingliang snapped impatiently.
Pfft. A chuckle from behind caused everyone’s expressions to shift slightly.
Catching the complex expressions on the faces of the crowd, Yu Xingliang spun around abruptly. Muxing was looking right at him with a calm expression.
That laughter just now… Recalling the village head’s expression when Muxing first appeared, Yu Xingliang always felt like he had missed some crucial detail.
“Forget it, yellow-haired brat.” Before Yu Xingliang could figure it out, the village head spoke up: “Seeing that you two are truly in love, I will let it go.”
With those words, the villagers began to hoot and holler. Yu Xingliang felt like a puppet as he was pushed toward Muxing’s side.
“Do not be afraid, Lele.” Muxing pressed close to Yu Xingliang and whispered soothingly.
Instant goosebumps erupted across Yu Xingliang’s skin as memories surged back like a rising tide.
It was during the first semester of freshman year when Yu Xingliang had been captivated by Fan Zixi, the freshman representative giving the speech.
He had shaken off the bodyguards and driver sent by his father, following closely behind the fast-paced, brilliant student representative.
That day, he followed Fan Zixi to a tutoring center, watching through the glass as Fan Zixi lectured earnestly at the podium.
Only then did Yu Xingliang realize that someone in this world would actually work and study simultaneously, all for a mere four thousand yuan.
“Stop following me.” Those were the first words Fan Zixi had ever spoken to him.
Yu Xingliang had put his hands behind his back and smiled brightly: “Who told you to look so good.”
An orange streetlamp flickered, and Fan Zixi’s face turned beet red, looking so pure and innocent.
Back then, he never would have imagined why a group of ruffians would suddenly appear in a lawful society, nor would he have suspected that someone as wonderful as Fan Zixi would orchestrate a scheme to harm him.
“Lele? Lele, Zheng Lele!”
Muxing shook Yu Xingliang gently. Seeing Yu Xingliang’s gaze finally clear up, he breathed a sigh of relief: “What is wrong with you? Your complexion looks terrible.”
Instead of looking at Muxing, Yu Xingliang looked past him toward the villagers, who had released their grip at some point.
The villagers’ expressions were completely normal, leaving only a lingering trace of unmasked worry between the village head’s brows.
A horrifying suspicion bloomed in Yu Xingliang’s heart. Perhaps these villagers were just like the ruffians Fan Zixi had hired back then, merely putting on an act for his benefit.
Seeing Yu Xingliang keep his head down in silence, Muxing cast a sideways glance at the village head.
Catching the hidden meaning conveyed in Muxing’s look, the village head immediately cleared his throat and straightened his posture: “Since this dead weight is your wife, you may stay.”
A wave of joy instantly flooded Muxing’s voice: “Thank you, village head!”
Yu Xingliang looked up at Muxing. Beneath his bangs, Muxing’s smile curved into a remarkably handsome arc, looking even better than that person he had once liked.
The village head spoke with a stern tone: “Do not thank me just yet. Langya Village does not keep useless people. If you want to stay, you cannot eat for free. There is work to be done!”
Muxing agreed readily: “Please rest assured, village head. We will complete the workload for two people every single day.”
The village head nodded, cast one final look at Muxing, and led the villagers away.
“Were you frightened?” Muxing raised a hand to stroke the back of Yu Xingliang’s head, his touch gentle as water.
A sudden sense of guilt welled up inside Yu Xingliang. Fan Zixi had plotted and schemed to deceive him because he was the sole heir to the Yu Corporation, but what did this Zheng Lele have that was worth a group of people tricking him?
“Not really,” Yu Xingliang forced out a smile, adding a lighthearted joke: “What kind of storms haven’t I seen before?”
Muxing chuckled again, his mood seeming unusually bright today: “You are acting like a completely different person.”
Yu Xingliang’s eyelid twitch as he offered an awkward laugh: “You really know how to joke.”
He quickly changed the subject: “It is freezing outside. Hurry up and turn off the household traps, I am going inside!”
“The poisoned arrows are all used up, you can just go right in.”
This was a safe zone! To share all the secrets of his life-saving dwelling with him like this showed an immense level of trust!
Deeply moved, Yu Xingliang felt a fresh wave of shame for lumping Muxing together with Fan Zixi in his mind.
“Go on inside,” Muxing said softly. “I am going to wash the chicken and heat it up.”
The night breeze gently lifted the bangs on Muxing’s forehead, revealing eyes as clear and warm as autumn pools that easily drew people in.
Yu Xingliang nodded hastily and scrambled back into the house out of embarrassment.
Once he confirmed that Yu Xingliang had completely stepped inside, Muxing slowly turned his gaze toward the village head, who was emerging from behind a pile of straw.
And so, Yu Xingliang settled down in Langya Village. While the place resembled a ghost village, its organizational structure mirrored human society!
The village was divided into four sectors: agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, and external procurement logistics. Every villager was assigned tasks based on their qualifications. They simply focused on labor, and after finishing their daily work tasks, a mess hall provided meals while dedicated staff handled laundry.
Consequently, homes in Langya Village did not have kitchens.
Because of his exceptional fishing skills, Muxing was assigned to the fisheries sector. Unlike the agriculture and animal husbandry sectors, he and a handful of external procurement villagers were permitted to freely pass through the village gates.
As for Yu Xingliang, he was initially assigned to the agriculture group. However, since he did not even know how to plant rice seedlings, the village head reassigned him to animal husbandry.
Yet as it turned out, Zheng Lele could not even handle feeding chickens and ducks, which infuriated the village head to no end.
“You did this on purpose,” the village head said, taking a puff from his cigarette with absolute certainty.
Yu Xingliang glanced around the village head’s office. Unlike its gloomy nighttime appearance, it looked rather rustic and cozy by daylight.
“Zheng Lele!” The village head’s angry roar startled Yu Xingliang, who had been looking around with wandering eyes.
“What!” Yu Xingliang raised his voice even higher than the village head’s: “You scared me!”
The village head felt his anger surge up to his throat: “Who do you think you are talking to?!”
Seeing that the village head was genuinely upset, Yu Xingliang instantly turned docile. Sitting up straight, he said, “Village head, please calm down. I was just having a startle reflex, I absolutely meant no disrespect.”
“Ha, Zheng Lele, you are not timid at all anymore, and you even have the nerve to talk back to me.” The village head slammed his hand angrily onto the desk, seemingly trying to project an aura of authority.
Yu Xingliang looked at the bright, blazing sunshine outside the window, then glanced at the village head’s wrinkled face, and for some reason, a sudden pang of longing for his father washed over him.
The village head frowned: “You… are you spacing out right now?!”
Yu Xingliang sniffed, and when he raised his head, his eyes were brimming with tears, as if he might break down crying at any second.
The village head was taken aback.
The next second, the front door was pushed open with a loud bang by Muxing.
Startled by the noise, Yu Xingliang blinked, and a tear naturally slipped from the corner of his eye right before Muxing.
Noticing Muxing’s darkened expression, the village head instantly understood and glared fiercely at Yu Xingliang.
Feeling wronged as the village head silently cursed him as a manipulative green tea bitch hundreds of times over, Yu Xingliang was left completely bewildered.
“Village head, why did you call my wife here alone?” Muxing’s tone was heavy, sounding ready to pull out a fishing harpoon and give the village head a solid thwack.
Clearing his throat, the village head straightened his back and said, “This wife of yours is simply too clumsy and entirely unsuited for life in Langya Village.”
“Clumsy?” You could call Yu Xingliang a love-struck fool, but calling him clumsy was something he refused to accept: “I have never done farm work before, and none of you bothered to teach me, so how could I possibly know how to do it! As long as someone shows me once, I can learn it right away!”
The village head let out a disdainful scoff and opened his mouth to continue lecturing Yu Xingliang, but seeing Muxing stride forward with a gloomy expression, he swallowed his words back down.
“I can do two people’s share of work. Please do not give my wife a hard time, village head,” Muxing said expressionlessly. “Thank you, village head.”
Stammering, the village head replied, “I… I did not… I wasn’t bullying Zheng Lele, he started crying all on his own!”
Without paying the village head any further mind, Muxing turned around, bent down to scoop Yu Xingliang up into his arms, and walked away without looking back.
The village head raised a hand as if to shout, but didn’t dare. Once Muxing was completely out of sight, he finally yelled out: “Stop right there! You two have zero manners!”
