- Chapter 10 - "Demoness, You're Still Casting Spells to Charm Me at a Time Like This."
As the sedan chair shattered and split apart, Lu Xiaoxiao quickly held Zhu Yujie and ran far away, hiding behind a large tree to observe the battle.
The person who lifted the curtain was a short, small old man—none other than Zhu Liang, the clan leader of Zhujia Town.
Tan Taijing lashed her whip at Zhu Liang, and a sharp crack echoed in the air. Even from afar, Lu Xiaoxiao felt as if a fiery snake were striking Zhu Liang, causing a ripple in the air. She muttered to herself: This Gui Chen Whip is incredible. If one lash hit, it would probably instantly cremate a dragon.
That Zhu Liang was no pushover. He leaped back three zhang (about 10 meters), barely dodging the whip, showing no signs of being a fifty or sixty-year-old man.
Zhu Liang maliciously licked his lower lip and said with a dark look: “You little girls really don’t know the immensity of heaven and earth, still trying to snatch the meat from the mouth of I, the Ao-Qin.”
Another whip cracked, sweeping horizontally toward Zhu Liang. It seemed Tan Taijing wasn’t interested in wasting words with him.
A longer weapon is always stronger. Zhu Liang, empty-handed, was no match for Tan Taijing. He cursed furiously: “I see you female cultivators have tender skin and soft flesh; maybe you’re even more tender than that three-year-old child.” Then, unafraid of death, he charged toward Tan Taijing.
Lu Xiaoxiao quickly reached out and covered Zhu Yujie’s eyes, afraid that the little girl would witness Zhu Liang bleeding out on the spot and suffer psychological trauma.
She had already checked Zhu Liang’s attack power; he had only recently entered the Golden Core stage, roughly at the Golden Core 15 level. Tan Taijing, on the other hand, was a great demon from the Monster Beast Mountain Range. Killing a higher-level demon should be a piece of cake for her, shouldn’t it?
Zhu Liang roared and took to the air, transforming into his true form—a monstrous ox-like demon with four horns, the Ao-Qin—and attacked Tan Taijing. From a distance, the Ao-Qin looked as large as half a house, and Tan Taijing seemed as if she could be crushed with a single stomp.
The situation was not that simple. Tan Taijing leaped nimbly, unleashing seven or eight successive lashes. Each strike landed directly on the Ao-Qin’s face, making it let out ear-splitting, piercing wails.
Lu Xiaoxiao felt an irritating itch on the back of her hand. It was the little girl, who, seeing her continuously cover her eyes, started to push her hand away. As soon as she removed her hand, the little girl’s mouth puckered, and she looked ready to cry again. So, she quickly tore off her dark hair tie, tied the ends together, and started playing ‘cat’s cradle’ with the little girl. Still worried about Tan Taijing, Lu Xiaoxiao could only glance at the battlefield between turns of the string game.
Before long, several dozen rounds had passed in the fight. At some point, the Ao-Qin swallowed a red pill. Tan Taijing, who had subtly held the advantage, gradually began to lose it. The Ao-Qin no longer bothered to dodge, even after being struck by dozens of lashes.
Lu Xiaoxiao’s heart panicked, and she wanted to go up and help.
At this moment, the scene took another turn. The human and the demon were suspended tens of meters in the air. A fierce wind suddenly rose, and a tornado swirled around them. The two stood opposite each other, surrounded by howling, chaotic gusts of wind. Tan Taijing put her hand on the necklace at her chest, seemingly trying to rip it off.
Lu Xiaoxiao recognized this as the Concealment Pearl that sealed two-thirds of Tan Taijing’s cultivation. If she removed this bead, she could unleash her original power, but at the same time, her Demonic Qi would be completely exposed.
“It looks like she’s getting serious. It’s better to finish this quickly. I still don’t know what’s happening on Senior Sister’s side,” Lu Xiaoxiao muttered to herself.
“Junior Sister, watch out!” A male voice suddenly rang out in the field.
Tan Taijing was momentarily startled by the sudden shout, and the beast seized the opportunity, landing a heavy blow on Tan Taijing, sending her flying backward to crash onto the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust. Lu Xiaoxiao quickly stood up, cursing under her breath: “Damn it! Why did that idiot suddenly show up?”
As the dust settled, Tan Taijing stood up, swaying slightly. She wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, and her pale-moon clothing was stained with flecks of blood. She saw Mei Yuanhua’s arrival but did not respond to him.
Tan Taijing immediately rushed toward Lu Xiaoxiao and Zhu Yujie’s position, saying to Lu Xiaoxiao, “Run!” She picked up Zhu Yujie and began fleeing toward the distant forest, with Lu Xiaoxiao following closely behind.
Seeing Tan Taijing retreat, Mei Yuanhua did not stay to fight the Ao-Qin and also followed closely behind her, choosing a slightly more distant route into the mountains.
The Ao-Qin immediately chose a direction and pursued Lu Xiaoxiao relentlessly.
“Crap! Why aren’t you chasing him?” Lu Xiaoxiao said, then used the simple acceleration technique she had just learned, increasing her speed by a few points, barely managing to run alongside Tan Taijing.
“Are you okay, Tan Taijing? Is your injury serious?” Lu Xiaoxiao turned to Tan Taijing with a worried look. If the boss is down, the lackey is dead no matter what.
Tan Taijing glanced in Mei Yuanhua’s direction, then changed direction to fly toward him, replying somewhat weakly, “Not very good.”
The Ao-Qin was incredibly fast. They had thought the trees would obstruct its large body, but to their surprise, it was able to shrink, and was now chasing them like a deadly leopard.
Ten meters… five meters… It was getting closer and closer… Lu Xiaoxiao felt a tightening in her back, the distinct sensation of being locked onto by a ferocious beast. Tan Taijing’s speed had also slowed considerably due to her injury.
The scales in Lu Xiaoxiao’s heart swayed back and forth. Seeing Tan Taijing fleeing with Zhu Yujie in her arms, frowning in pain, she still couldn’t bear to run in a different direction. But after all, it was Tan Taijing who fought the Ao-Qin, not her. If she were smart, like Mei Yuanhua, she might be able to escape by running away from Tan Taijing.
Seeing that the three of them were about to be caught, with the Ao-Qin’s foul-smelling mouth close at hand…
Lu Xiaoxiao yelled loudly: “Mother of Lightning, Duke of Thunder, quickly bestow your divine power, Five Thunder Talisman, go!” She then pulled out a pile of talismans from her chest and threw them backward.
The Ao-Qin was startled by her loud shout. It knew what Five Thunder Talismans were and was terrified that the opponent was throwing Mid-Grade or High-Grade talismans.
It quickly stopped, but was still hit squarely in the face. It thought to itself: I am finished! A moment later, the lightning that should have struck it didn’t arrive. Instead, there was a poof sound, and a burst of dense smoke, smearing black soot all over its face.
The Ao-Qin snorted out two plumes of black smoke in a furious rage: “Damn it! I will certainly grind your bones to dust!”
Lu Xiaoxiao, who had flown another hundred meters into the forest, wiped the non-existent cold sweat from her forehead, but then heard Tan Taijing beside her, who was fleeing for her life, let out a chuckle.
“You can still laugh? Didn’t you say you were ten-tenths sure? We’re about to die on the same day, same month, and same time!”
Tan Taijing turned her head and smiled at her: “That wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe dying won’t be as painful as the Gold Coin Gu. Perhaps if the Ao-Qin is enjoying eating you, Yujie and I might be able to escape.”
The moonlight shone on her blood-stained lips, giving her face a bewitching look. Her playful eyes made the fleeing Lu Xiaoxiao feel somewhat alluring. In a moment of distraction, she blurted out her inner thoughts: “Demoness, you’re still casting spells to charm me at a time like this.”
Tan Taijing’s eyes widened, and then she let out a soft laugh.
The Ao-Qin, having just been tricked by Lu Xiaoxiao’s useless Five Thunder Talismans, sped up and caught up during their conversation.
Tan Taijing clutched the Concealment Pearl, glanced at Mei Yuanhua a few zhang away, and hesitated, about to tear it off, when she heard Lu Xiaoxiao shout again: “Mother of Lightning, Duke of Thunder, quickly bestow your divine power, Five Thunder Talisman, break!” She thought to herself: This fool, she tricked it once, does she dare to use it again?
Just as she was about to take action, she heard a boom of thunder. A bolt of lightning as thick as a barrel descended from the sky, racing toward the demon behind them.
The Ao-Qin hadn’t expected Lu Xiaoxiao to try the same trick twice, so it didn’t slow down after she yelled. It hadn’t even managed to dodge a single talisman this time. When a dense cloud of smoke exploded in front of its eyes, it thought it had guessed right, but after the smoke, a bolt of thunder solidly struck it, leaving its head bleeding profusely. It crashed to the ground with a clang.
Lu Xiaoxiao cautiously walked over to the fallen Ao-Qin, kicked it twice, and asked Tan Taijing beside her: “Dead? Unconscious?”
Mei Yuanhua, with one hand behind his back, walked toward the two of them, drawn by the commotion.
“Unconscious, but it will die soon,” Tan Taijing said, and then suddenly reached out, pulled out Lu Xiaoxiao’s sword, and stabbed it backward…
The sword ran straight through Mei Yuanhua’s Dantian (Core).
The dagger in Mei Yuanhua’s hand clattered to the ground, sinking into the soil beneath his feet. He stared at Tan Taijing with wide eyes and said, “When… when did you know?”
Tan Taijing looked at Mei Yuanhua, who was falling backward, and calmly withdrew the sword: “The smell of demons is too foul…”
Mei Yuanhua, lying on the ground, clutching his abdomen and constantly coughing up fresh blood, looked exceptionally hideous: “Interesting, Junior Sister Jing! I’ll send you a gift. I look forward to our next meeting.”
A wisp of black smoke emerged from Mei Yuanhua’s body. Tan Taijing was caught off guard, and it managed to escape.
She then turned and walked toward the Ao-Qin, wielding the sword with both hands, and cut off the Ao-Qin’s head.
Lu Xiaoxiao jostled Zhu Yujie in her arms to make her more comfortable and asked Tan Taijing, “What was that wisp of black smoke that came out of Mei Yuanhua’s body?”
Tan Taijing looked back in surprise: “Possession? Aren’t you more clear about that than I am?”
Lu Xiaoxiao was about to argue with her but saw Lu Wanbai approaching from a distance, accompanied by another person from Yao Xia Palace. As they got closer, she clearly saw that it was Xi Xiaoshuang, the Head of the Enforcement Hall!
Xi Xiaoshuang saw the Ao-Qin’s corpse, then turned and saw Mei Yuanhua’s corpse, and then looked at Tan Taijing with a wary expression.
Xi Xiaoshuang took two steps back and asked Lu Xiaoxiao: “How did Mei Yuanhua die?”
