Professor Shen’s Needy Little Lover - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Even through the bath towel, Shen Zaiqing could feel the warmth emanating from Long Xin.
Of course, some of that abnormal temperature was caused by nervousness; the little dragon in Shen Zaiqing’s palms was becoming increasingly hot to the touch.
She didn’t want to make things difficult for her and said: “You only need to answer these three questions for me, and I won’t ask about anything else.”
Her little dragon could certainly have her own secrets, but regarding matters related to her, she felt she had a right to know.
Long Xin swallowed again, her head lowering: “I…”
Her lips moved several times, and she swallowed several more rounds of saliva, but after holding it in for a long time, she only managed to squeeze out that single word: “I.”
Her mind was a mess, and she didn’t know where to start.
Shen Zaiqing felt that she was being too forceful, which made her little dragon extra nervous, so she decided to change her approach.
Thus, Shen Zaiqing pulled over a watermelon-shaped stool and placed it by the side of the sofa. Then, she picked up both the dragon and the towel together and placed her on this stool.
Sitting on the stool, Long Xin felt as if she had suddenly landed on a desert island. The surrounding pressure vanished; she sat safely and steadily alone in the center of the watermelon stool. Her short legs couldn’t even reach the edge, though her tail hung down from the side of the stool.
The warm yellow light of the living room poured down, casting her shadow against the side of the sofa like a small hill rising from the desert island.
Long Xin hadn’t quite recovered her wits yet and looked down at her own shadow.
Shen Zaiqing’s head leaned in close, and her shadow directly annexed the shadow of the “desert island.”
Long Xin slowly lifted her head, meeting Shen Zaiqing’s eyes, which were as gentle as water.
Shen Zaiqing sat on the edge of the sofa, leaning forward, propping her chin with her elbow, and asked softly: “Is this a bit better?”
Long Xin nodded.
After Shen Zaiqing’s hands were withdrawn, her steadily climbing body temperature stopped rising, and the trepidation in her heart lessened.
“The man we met in the supermarket just now—you know him, right?”
If a long monologue was too difficult to start, then they would change it to a question-and-answer format, like a chat rather than a confession.
Shen Zaiqing had realized that Long Xin was a little dragon who wouldn’t proactively confide in others; she kept everything bottled up inside and wouldn’t tell her.
Under Shen Zaiqing’s guidance, Long Xin spoke: “I know him. His name is Long Wei. He’s a White Dragon who grew up with me, but we’ve been at odds since we were small.”
Mentioning this, Long Xin’s gaze lowered, and her voice was tinged with a faint sadness: “I seem to get along with none of them.”
Her popularity within the Dragon Clan was essentially at rock bottom.
Even if she hid it from Shen Zaiqing, the Professor would surely find out eventually. It was better to tell her now.
Shen Zaiqing placed her palm on Long Xin’s little head and comforted her: “It’s not necessarily your fault.”
“I’ve heard of the irreconcilable conflicts between the Azure Dragons and the White Dragons. Who says an Azure Dragon must be a bad dragon? That kind of thinking should have been phased out long ago.”
In Shen Zaiqing’s view, Su Wu’an and the White Dragon families attacking Long Xin with racial theories was truly groundless.
“Look, today you finished the competition with Xu Weiyu and the others and even got a good ranking. Didn’t you get along harmoniously? They all want to be friends with you. Just now they were sending me WeChat messages asking if Long Xin would be going to school tomorrow.”
In Longya Mountain, all Long Xin ever heard were insults and curses; no one had ever explained things to her as gently as Shen Zaiqing.
Moreover, Shen Zaiqing was on her side.
Long Xin suddenly felt a surge of confidence, and her desire to speak increased: “Even though we grew up together, my magic is much more powerful than those White Dragons, and my physique is better than theirs. So today, Long Wei couldn’t hurt me at all. When he bumped into me, he was the one who got hurt.”
“He was just trying to show off for a moment.”
“They have always wanted to exterminate the Azure Dragons, but they can’t do anything to me. So they can only use petty tricks behind my back or verbal insults to make me angry.”
“Sometimes I think I really shouldn’t pay them any mind. Watching them dislike me but be unable to do anything about it is actually quite funny.”
It was precisely because they couldn’t do anything to Long Xin they couldn’t beat her in a fight and couldn’t force her into a corner—that later, people like Long Xu and Long Wei dedicated themselves to ruining Long Xin’s reputation. They threw every bit of filth they could at her. Since she held them in contempt, she naturally wouldn’t come out to explain or clarify.
And so, it evolved into the current situation.
Listening to Long Xin say these things, Shen Zaiqing’s expression shifted; her understanding of Long Xin had changed again.
Her little dragon was shy and reserved in front of her, but in front of other dragons, she seemed quite formidable.
Long Xin was watching Shen Zaiqing at every moment. Seeing her expression change, she feared she might be misunderstood as weak, so she hurriedly said: “I am also very fierce in Longya Mountain. If I’m pushed too far, I will fight back.”
Speaking with excitement, she even pulled the bath towel down to let her hand slip out.
She had originally wanted to let Shen Zaiqing see her sharp dragon claws Long Wei and those other dragons were very wary of her claws but after she made a few swipes at the air in front of Shen Zaiqing, she remembered that on her first day in Building No. 3, she had let Shen Zaiqing help her clip them. Now, only a few blunt fingers remained.
Looking at Long Xin’s little blunt claws, a smile flooded Shen Zaiqing’s eyes. She poked her cheek and said: “Then show me your ‘fierce’ face right now.”
The tension Long Xin had built up deflated again, and even her shoulders slumped. She couldn’t possibly act fierce toward Shen Zaiqing.
Shen Zaiqing stopped teasing her and said patiently: “Ignoring them forever won’t solve the problem. Allowing them to slander you will only fuel their arrogance.”
“Besides, if it’s something you didn’t do, it should be clarified. Otherwise, the true culprits will never be punished.”
The White Dragons now wanted to mold Long Xin into a public enemy of the entire Dragon Clan, someone everyone had a right to punish.
It had reached a very serious stage.
Shen Zaiqing couldn’t let the situation continue like this; she wanted to clear her little dragon’s name.
Long Xin also felt that things couldn’t go on like this.
After leaving Longya Mountain, she realized how vast and colorful the world outside was.
She wanted to stay here. She wanted to break free from the voices that made her waver; she wanted to praise herself loudly and without guilt; she wanted to live with her head held high, and she wanted to embrace the sunlight that belonged to her in the light of day.
She couldn’t let the White Dragon families have their way anymore.
Long Xin lowered her head and thought for a long time. It wasn’t until a bright smile appeared on her face that she looked up and said to Shen Zaiqing: “Mhm, I will change.”
“If I don’t know what to do, can I ask you?”
“Yes.” Shen Zaiqing beamed, curving her finger to brush against Long Xin’s cheek. Who wouldn’t like a little dragon who understands things so quickly?
Afterward, Long Xin briefly told her about what happened by the lake yesterday and why she had become swollen. In any case, no matter how it was told, it all came back to the targeting by the White Dragons.
Long Xin didn’t go into great detail; she glossed over many obvious acts of malice.
She didn’t want her Professor to go to rest with a belly full of anger late at night.
She would settle the score with those annoying White Dragons and the messes they created one by one.
It wasn’t that Long Xin hadn’t had such thoughts before, but they had always remained unresolved.
It was different now, because she was the Professor’s little dragon. She had a gentle and powerful supporter.
Shen Zaiqing’s words “I can’t stand seeing our little dragon being bullied” were like a brand, carrying a searing heat, scorched into Long Xin’s heart.
The conversation ended, and Shen Zaiqing had received an extremely earnest promise from Long Xin. The satisfaction in her eyes was nearly overflowing.
She asked Long Xin if she wanted a reward.
Long Xin was overwhelmed by the favor, standing there in a daze.
She couldn’t figure out why, when it was the Professor who had gone to such lengths to guide and enlighten her, she was the one who got a reward.
However, since it was almost time for bed, she did indeed have a request she desperately wanted to make.
Seeing Long Xin’s hesitant manner, Shen Zaiqing stood up and turned to handle the watermelon rind on the floor.
Her voice drifted back the moment her back was turned to Long Xin: “There’s a time limit. Once this opportunity passes, the shop will be closed.”
The effect of the urge was immediate.
Long Xin panicked. She quickly climbed down from the watermelon stool, took two steps on her short legs to chase after her, and then loudly announced the reward she wanted behind Shen Zaiqing’s back.
“Professor, can I sleep with you tonight!”
Shen Zaiqing’s movement of picking up the watermelon rind froze.
