Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 62
Chapter 62: Say You Love Me So Much.
As soon as Mo Yingxue arrived home, she felt that something was amiss. Yue Lei was, for once, waiting for her in the entryway, holding the cats. The moment she saw Mo Yingxue, her face broke into a massive grin, and she eagerly helped her with her bag and fetched her slippers.
“Xiao Xue, you’re back! What did you do today? Are you tired?”
Mo Yingxue frowned, seriously suspecting Yue Lei had done something wrong to her. After all, though the woman could sometimes be thoughtful, she was generally a big-hearted, oblivious girl who didn’t take much to heart. She wasn’t the type to be fully dedicated when caring for someone else.
Mo Yingxue gave a casual reply, trying to suppress the ridiculous thought that the sun had risen in the west. She walked into the house, scanning her surroundings. She had an absolute certainty that “a quiet child is certainly up to no good.”
When she spotted the familiar phone on the table, the other shoe finally dropped.
A strong-willed woman like Yue Lei, discovering that the rewards she had been receiving were not earned through her own efforts, must be feeling terrible. Was she waiting by the door to launch an attack right away?
Mo Yingxue’s invisible ice shards stood on end, wrapping her up like a hedgehog. On the surface, her emotions were under control, but she was visibly flustered, her only solace being the occasional cold sarcasm she allowed herself.
“Sis, no wonder you’re so nice today. Did you find my secret? Taking something without permission is hardly the behavior of a decent person.”
Yue Lei pressed her lips together. She put the cats down. She took a step closer, gripped Mo Yingxue’s wrist, and lowered her head to leave a tooth mark on it: “Bringing me home without permission and setting a sweet trap for me so I could never leave you—you’re no lady either.”
Her breathing was heavy, her movement forceful. The slight sting on her wrist made Mo Yingxue’s heart pound. This aggressive Yue Lei was the most familiar and yet the strangest version of her.
“What do you want?” Mo Yingxue’s eyes were fixed on Yue Lei’s movements. She tried to pull her hand away but couldn’t break free.
“Nothing, I’m just purely happy to see you.” Overflowing with love, Yue Lei couldn’t keep up the act any longer. She hugged Mo Yingxue, slowly tightening her arms and burying her face in her neck: “Wife, I’m so happy we can be together again.”
Mo Yingxue was stiff, letting Yue Lei hold her. She was certain Yue Lei hadn’t eaten anything wrong this time and didn’t smell of alcohol, so this statement must be sincere.
Then why… was she calling her Wife?
After hugging her for a long time and not feeling her wife lean into her as usual, Yue Lei knew she had messed up and scared her.
She lifted Mo Yingxue into her arms and kissed her face. She rubbed her own face against hers, her fluffy eyelashes making it hard for Mo Yingxue to dodge.
Successful in her teasing, Yue Lei was pleased. She feigned a fierce tone: “Think back carefully. Didn’t you marry me in the last life?”
“What… what last life? What are you talking about? I don’t understand…” Mo Yingxue whimpered, shrinking into Yue Lei’s embrace, her face flushed red like an apple.
She couldn’t believe she was the one whose secret was exposed first… But it was true.
If they had just met in this life, she absolutely wouldn’t be obsessed with Yue Lei.
At most, she would pause to admire her beauty as before, and then move on with her life. If Yue Lei hadn’t clung to her, she wouldn’t even remember such a person existed. Let alone spending hundreds of thousands on gifts and raising Yue Lei’s popularity on the ethereal internet.
Glancing at the phone, Mo Yingxue couldn’t help but sigh softly. She gritted her teeth, thinking she should have carried two phones with her at all times to keep this secret forever. She liked catching fox tails, not having her own revealed.
Yue Lei watched Mo Yingxue’s expression shift, finally settling on helpless acceptance and faint regret, and she found it hilarious. She kissed her lips, her tone playful: “Remember now? Are you my wife?”
“No!” Mo Yingxue couldn’t stand her self-satisfied look. The woman was just asking to be punched. Determined not to let her be too smug, she scrambled out of Yue Lei’s arms.
She quickly moved to the other end of the sofa, leaning back with a cold, elegant poise and crossing her legs, maximizing the distance between them. Her tone was as cold as possible: “We’re divorced, Miss Yue. Please maintain respect. Women should not be intimate outside of marriage.”
“You, you… you picked me up off the street! That proves you still care about me! No, I’m all you care about!” Yue Lei said words she didn’t quite believe herself, slithering quickly toward her wife like a snake. She gave her a provocative glance and hugged her legs tightly, refusing to let go.
“You! You were the one who didn’t want me first!” The thought made Mo Yingxue instantly furious.
The emotions suppressed deep in her memory for all those years, along with the vivid memories, surged out.
She was angry and crying at the same time: “You, you divorced me and then completely vanished! I couldn’t find you no matter what, and I couldn’t wait for you… After finally getting a second chance at life, I found you again, and you didn’t even recognize me! You don’t know how sad I was…”
Mo Yingxue cried so hard her makeup was ruined. Her nose was stuffed, her throat was hoarse, and her eyes were swollen.
Yue Lei sensed her pain, and her own heart constricted tightly: “When did you go looking for me?”
Mo Yingxue was crying so much her brain was foggy. She took a few moments to grasp Yue Lei’s meaning.
She hiccuped and choked out her grievance: “I went looking for you as soon as I came back, but I didn’t see you at all. Your colleagues thought I was there for a job interview, and they made me leave when they saw my minor ID… I told them I was looking for Yue Lei, and they took pity on me and brought you over to look at me. But you didn’t recognize me at all, you were so cold, rushing off to do something, you didn’t even look me in the eye…”
Even if Yue Lei had a hundred times the audacity, she wouldn’t dare treat her wife with cold indifference. She silently cursed her younger self a hundred thousand times.
Yue Lei gently wiped Mo Yingxue’s tears, explaining softly: “It’s a misunderstanding, Wife. I woke up the day before you brought me home. When you went looking for me, that version of me was still young, didn’t know you, and hadn’t created any memories with you! Besides, if you came back as a freshman, you must have been small and slender then. I’m an adult. How could I have inappropriate thoughts about a minor? I probably didn’t look at you much. If I had given you special treatment and shown too much concern, what kind of person would I be?”
That made sense. Yue Lei was definitely not a pedophile.
Yue Lei’s eagerness to defend herself helped dissipate some of the anger in Mo Yingxue’s heart. She pouted, making a futile protest: “I was already an adult then! I was eighteen…”
“But you definitely didn’t look eighteen.” Yue Lei knew her wife too well; she was always slender and reserved. Perhaps because she rarely showed expression, when everyone else was nearing thirty, Yue Lei had laugh lines around her eyes, but her wife’s eyes were still smooth, showing no signs of age.
So, even though she hadn’t seen her wife at eighteen, she could imagine that she must have been incredibly pure and youthful, looking super cute and absolutely outside of her dating pool.
“Fine, let’s not talk about that for now.” Mo Yingxue kicked her again, raising her eyebrows angrily: “You definitely know the answer to this question! If you still loved me, why did you divorce me?”
In the previous life, the live streaming company was Yue Lei’s face, Yue Lei’s dignity.
She stubbornly insisted on letting her wife think she was a fickle, unfaithful woman who had fallen for someone else rather than telling her the truth. But in this life, she hadn’t had the luxury of pretending to be financially successful in front of her wife from the start. All the words she couldn’t utter even with bloodshot eyes before now became light and weightless.
Yue Lei sighed softly, unconsciously fiddling with Mo Yingxue’s fingers, her tone normal: “I went bankrupt then, Wife, and was about to be liquidated by the government. I didn’t want to drag you down, but I also didn’t want to tell you I was destitute. So I took it upon myself to file for divorce. I’m truly sorry, so, so sorry…”
While saying the words she would have died before saying in the previous life, Yue Lei sounded detached, as if recounting someone else’s story.
But when she got to the part about apologizing to Mo Yingxue, she genuinely felt the sadness all over again. Her lungs felt clogged with stones, making it hard to breathe.
Mo Yingxue was also angry, angry at their missed chances, their separation, and their regrets. She gently bit Yue Lei’s hand near the thumb, pretending to be fierce: “If you had just been honest, I would never have divorced you. Money is not the problem. The lack of love is.”
“Did you love me that much back then?” Yue Lei’s eyes sparkled with surprise.
She reached out to tickle her wife, her gaze intense: “How much did you love me?” Mo Yingxue looked up at the ceiling, wondering why she suddenly shifted all her focus, when they were just discussing such profound topics. She felt numb all over.
In this life, as her relationship with Mo Yingxue had grown closer, Yue Lei had become very skilled at clinging to her.
She immediately wrapped herself around her wife like a water snake, her voice hoarse, clinging to her neck and lightly kissing her: “Answer me, Wife. I need to know.”
This question, tinged with desire, even though it was about a normal topic, made it hard to maintain composure.
Mo Yingxue was too shy to answer, only staring at her with dark eyes, biting her lip, and looking away.
Yue Lei knew she wouldn’t be able to pry anything more out of her wife today, so she didn’t press the issue. Her eyes filled with desire. She undid the top button of her wife’s shirt, leaned in, and gently bit her bra strap: “Wife, those things arrived. Do you still mean what you said?”
“What?” Mo Yingxue swallowed, pretending not to understand.
“You said you wanted it, and you also said you love me so much.” Yue Lei looked at her, eyes smiling, and lifted her chin: “Let me see how much you want it.”
Mo Yingxue knew what she meant.
“Then you look at me first.” She tried hard to ignore the heat on her face, dimmed the lights, and began to kiss her.
Yue Lei hadn’t expected their first time in this life to involve her wife daring to kiss her below the neck. In the past, she had been almost completely passive, as if she had no interest in her at all.
This feeling was agonizing. The emptiness in her heart absolutely needed to be filled with love.
“You’re naughty.” She nipped Mo Yingxue’s earlobe, picked her up, and carried her to the room.
