Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: You Rascal…
The last day of Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue’s trip to Fencheng arrived quickly. After a meal, the group leisurely strolled around the mountain ranch, heading out to watch the impressive sight of sheepdogs herding sheep.
Mo Yingxue noticed Yue Lei was constantly craning her neck, looking around as if searching for something. She tugged her sleeve and couldn’t help but laugh: “Sis, what are you looking for?”
“Nothing, nothing.” Yue Lei hadn’t realized she was so obvious and could only laugh sheepishly.
Last night, she didn’t talk to Zhong Jiali for fear of revealing too much, but once she was in bed, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep. The thought that this woman was one of the few friends her wife had in the previous life who would go out with her alone filled her with a sense of responsibility.
Yue Lei really wanted to introduce them, so Xiao Xue wouldn’t lose a friend in this life. However, she didn’t know if Zhong Jiali had already left, so she was just craning her neck and looking around, hoping for luck.
Bathing in the sun, the group arrived at the ranch’s interaction zone. The winding walkways here were built around wooden fences, within which various herbivores—sheep, goats, sika deer, alpacas, and surprisingly, several kind-eyed, large horses—awaited feeding.
Yue Lei immediately took a liking to the horses with their streamlined bodies and beautifully lustrous coats.
After collecting her basket of feed and carrots, she ignored the other hungry animals and pulled Mo Yingxue straight toward the horses.
Mo Yingxue couldn’t keep up with her pace, but the staff warned against running for fear of startling the animals. She let go of Yue Lei’s hand and pouted: “Why are you walking so fast? You’re going to spill the grass.”
Yue Lei was only rushing because she saw everyone else heading toward the horses and was afraid of being crowded out.
Hearing Mo Yingxue, she immediately stopped and, smiling awkwardly, took the food basket. Mo Yingxue hadn’t meant to scold her, and now, seeing Yue Lei look remorseful, she grew a little anxious.
She softened her voice, tilting her head to ask: “Do you really like horses?”
Yue Lei was about to praise how beautiful the horses were, but then she remembered that her wife was financially well-off in this life and keen on spending money on her. What if she expressed her interest and Mo Yingxue actually bought one and led it home?
She let her gaze fall on the horses in the distance and laughed lightly: “I’m just curious. I want to feel if they’re all muscle. You see other animals all the time, but horses are different.”
As expected, Mo Yingxue abandoned the thought of buying one.
She just smiled and asked: “Do you want to ride one? There’s a price list over there.”
“No, I don’t think so. It feels a bit inhumane. Let’s just pet them a bit and take a picture.”
Yue Lei appreciated the horses’ natural, unadorned beauty and didn’t want to burden the working horses with saddles.
The amount of feed the ranch gave each visitor was small, and the herbivores’ tongues were so nimble they could roll up a large bunch of grass in one go. It was used up after feeding just a few animals.
Yue Lei’s favorite was a black horse with white markings on its head.
The groom introduced it, saying it was just over a year old—still a baby. It was born at the ranch but was weak at birth and couldn’t be fully nourished by its mother, so the staff had to bring it out for extra feedings, making it exceptionally friendly to humans.
After feeding the little black horse, it didn’t leave but stood there obediently, watching Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue with its wet eyes.
“You’re so cute, baby!” Yue Lei exclaimed. She couldn’t resist buying more carrots, apples, and sugar cubes. This time, she ignored all the other greedy horses and fed everything to the little black horse. The little horse neighed with delight several times.
Just as she was about to go for a second trip to buy carrots, she noticed a line had formed. Lin Zhixi and Cong Die were also waiting to buy feed.
Yue Lei suddenly came to her senses and pulled Mo Yingxue toward the outer edge of the interaction zone.
As she walked, she muttered: “This is all a conspiracy by the breeders! Every animal probably has a touching little backstory! Think about it, they have to feed these animals anyway, but now visitors are paying out of pocket to feed them. For the same cost in feed, they get to make extra money!”
Mo Yingxue couldn’t help but laugh out loud. She bumped Yue Lei with her shoulder, teasing: “Just tell me, were you happy feeding him or not?”
Yue Lei bit her lip. She didn’t want to admit that every time she thought of that gentle, adorable black horse, she wanted to turn back and buy more sugar cubes. “It’s a bit sunny. Let’s go sit under the trees.”
Yue Lei told Lin Zhixi and the others and walked toward the grove with Mo Yingxue.
Since this was a relatively commercial ranch, there were signs of development everywhere. The ground beneath the trees was covered with many picnic blankets that were cleaned daily. After picking up a few leaves and shooing away a few bugs, they could sit down.
Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue found a small blanket. They picked it up and gave it a good shake. Seeing all the grass and debris fall off, Yue Lei led Mo Yingxue to the side, pulled out some wet wipes and paper towels from her bag, and diligently squatted down to clean it. When Mo Yingxue tried to help, she wouldn’t let her.
“They say they wash them every day. Don’t you believe them?” Mo Yingxue stood by her side, smiling as she watched her work, her heart feeling warm.
Yue Lei also loved taking care of her wife. Her wife’s concern made her work even harder. She wasn’t shy at all, wiping the mat rapidly: “They definitely aren’t as careful as I am. I don’t want your pants to get dirty.”
In the evening, Yue Lei secretly searched for Smoky Rose again, wondering if she would continue to stream outdoors.
But whether it was bad luck or something else, she couldn’t find her. Yue Lei wasn’t heartbroken by not finding her. Sometimes, thinking selfishly, it felt quite nice if her wife only had eyes for her and only made friends with her.
After enjoying another day of leisure and having a farewell dinner with Lin Zhixi and Cong Die, Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue began their journey home.
After more than ten days away, returning to the Sky Dome Villa, Yue Lei felt a hint of unfamiliarity looking at the lush pine trees through the iron fence.
She stepped inside and frowned after observing for a moment: “I remember there were lights on the fir tree when we left. They’re all gone now.”
Mo Yingxue glanced over, not seeing anything to be sentimental about. She was a little tired from the flight today and pushed her suitcase inside: “We have gardeners here too. They probably trimmed them because they got too long.”
“Oh, right!” Yue Lei remembered something and hurried after her, her face filled with worry: “Wu Jiajia took the three kittens, so there’s been a major change to our own family members. What am I doing gawking at some scenery?”
Mo Yingxue couldn’t help but laugh at her expression. She chuckled: “Yes, you’re sad seeing the trees trimmed. When you go home and see a few less kittens, are you going to hug me and cry? Crying like a baby at your age, shame on you.”
The familiar teasing was back, but surprisingly, it didn’t hurt her feelings at all. Yue Lei looked deeply at Mo Yingxue.
A mischievous fire surged within her, making her heart restless. She wanted to pull her wife into her arms and knead her body, just like in the previous life, turning all the words that sounded slightly harsh into low sobs and gentle whimpers in her throat.
The thought was there, but her reason told her it wasn’t right. After finally achieving an understanding with her wife, she couldn’t become a beast guided only by desire and destroy all this beauty. To distract herself, Yue Lei rushed to the guest room as soon as they arrived home: “I’m going to see the cats.”
“You rascal…” Mo Yingxue muttered, helping Wang Ma carry her suitcase upstairs.
Yue Lei went to the cat room, where only Rain, Torrential Rain, and Drizzle remained. Having been out for a while, her scent had changed. The three cats immediately scattered when they saw a stranger enter, diving into cat beds or under the bed.
“I raised you for nothing! Open your eyes and look! It’s me!” Yue Lei scolded, but expertly found the cat treats. Smelling the food, the three cats immediately ran over with their tails up, meowing and circling her feet.
For a cat owner, this was the most comforting sight. Yue Lei deliberately held her hands high, standing with her hands on her hips like a mountain bandit, lording over the cats circling her: “Line up, line up! The little cats step back and let Mommy eat first!”
Once she re-established familiarity with the three cats, Yue Lei hugged the fluffy Drizzle and rolled onto the blanket.
She forcefully kissed the little cat’s head twice, muttering: “Before, I didn’t know if she liked me, so I could control all my feelings. But now, what should I do, little cat? Xiao Xue likes me, and I like Xiao Xue. We’re in love. What if I can’t resist committing a crime?”
Mo Yingxue finished unpacking. Seeing Yue Lei still in the cat room, she pushed the door open and only heard the latter half. Finding it amusing, she smiled: “Sis, what crime are you planning to commit?”
Yue Lei’s ears turned red: “I… I’m going to commit the crime of depriving the little cats of their reproductive ability! I’m going to spay and neuter all of them!”
Mo Yingxue played along. She picked up Torrential Rain by her feet and stroked the calico mother cat’s head: “That sounds terrible, but it’s for the cats’ own good. I, the judge, declare Yue Lei not guilty!”
After a round of playful banter, Yue Lei walked out of the cat room and instinctively reached for the door handle of the next room.
“Sis, where are you going?” Mo Yingxue saw her action, and her voice became long and plaintive.
“I was staying here before we went on the trip. I’m going back to my room.” Yue Lei was confused, then suddenly remembered her suitcase hadn’t been unpacked and quickly headed toward the main hall.
But when she reached the living room, she found the suitcase that had been there was gone.
“Sis, did you forget? You were only staying downstairs temporarily because my mother was visiting, and you wanted to avoid suspicion.” Mo Yingxue’s tone became slightly serious, a subtle, cold smile playing on her lips.
She pointed to the ceiling: “Our bedroom is actually on the second floor. I already took your suitcase up for you.”
If we live together now that we’re home, I really might not be able to control myself. Yue Lei immediately wanted to find an excuse not to share a room with Mo Yingxue.
But before she could speak, Mo Yingxue came forward and hugged her, wrapping her arms around her neck and whispering into her ear, her breath like an orchid: “Sis, I was afraid it wasn’t clean when we were outside. Now that we’re home, I want to…”
Yue Lei’s entire mind instantly exploded.
