Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 58
Chapter 58: Going on a Hot Air Balloon.
It turned out that neither skydiving nor bungee jumping allowed wigs. The wig simply wouldn’t stay fixed on the head during a high-altitude fall, and too many clips would be dangerous.
Yue Lei had to settle for going on a hot air balloon instead.
Compared to the other activities, this one also floated in the sky, allowed for a longer time to enjoy the scenery, and, most importantly, she could dress up beautifully as Zhang Zhenni and ride with Xiao Xue and their friends.
It was a beautiful afternoon. The four of them, one by one, were led by the instructor into the hot air balloon basket. This hot air balloon had two baskets, each accommodating exactly four people.
Cong Die was very excited. As soon as she sat down, she started taking photos nonstop: “Thank you, CEO Yue, for treating us to a hot air balloon ride. I always see people flying up here from school, and now it’s their turn to look up at us, haha!”
Lin Zhixi smiled affectionately at her: “It’s too far away. They won’t be able to see who’s who.”
Cong Die stuck out her tongue: “That won’t stop me from posting it on my Moments later.”
“Don’t just take pictures of yourself. Take some of me too. I need content to post later.”
Yue Lei adjusted her long, straight black wig and turned to Mo Yingxue: “Xiao Xue, how do you feel? Are you scared?”
Mo Yingxue smiled at her, reaching out to grasp her hand: “I’m fine. I’m not afraid of heights.”
As the instructor inflated and ignited the burner, the balloon slowly filled and lifted them off the ground. The speed was quite slow, and Yue Lei wasn’t too nervous. As soon as they took off, she set up her camera to start taking selfies and recording videos.
The mountain ranch wasn’t exceptionally high, and the total ascent time was less than twenty minutes. It was quite difficult to capture vibrant photos, so she decided it was better to record more video and extract stills later.
However, once the balloon leveled out and they looked down at the entire city from high above, she forgot about business, stopped recording, and started admiring the view.
She turned to Mo Yingxue and found her wife was also looking at her. Yue Lei reached out and squeezed her hand.
Cong Die excitedly pointed: “Xi Xi, look, look! That’s the school, haha! There aren’t many people during the break. If anyone was having a gym class, we could take a picture and post it on the school wall!”
Lin Zhixi laughed along: “We finally got out to have some fun, so stop thinking about school. Look at the parks and the forests. It’s good for your eyes.”
The mountain ranch was located just outside the city, so they could appreciate both the closely built city skyline and the magnificent natural scenery.
When she finally had her fill of the scenery, Yue Lei came back to her senses and began filming for the camera.
“Babies, good afternoon! Today I’m on a hot air balloon ride. The weather is beautiful, and the sky is cloudless, so it’s a wonderful experience. When people are near the ocean, they feel the world is so vast and they are so small. I find people get a similar feeling when they are near the sky.”
Hearing the voices, a little girl in the other basket leaned over to look, her face full of curiosity. Yue Lei wasn’t camera-shy and waved with a big smile: “Hello there.” Her open friendliness made the peeking girl embarrassed. She smiled sheepishly and quickly retracted her head.
As they prepared to descend, the basket began to sway. Yue Lei and the others put away their equipment and sat down. The landing had a slight mishap; they landed in a lake about ten meters from the shore.
The instructor laughed heartily: “I wanted to give you a look at the lake view. I missed the mark a bit, I’m sorry. Do you want to reach the shore now, or wait for the shuttle bus in half an hour?”
Yue Lei looked around: “Now.” People’s roots are on the ground. After being airborne for so long, their legs were itching to stand on solid ground.
The instructor understood: “Then wait there. I’ll go pull. Anyone brave and strong enough to come down and help?”
Yue Lei glanced over. The other basket held an elderly couple and a mother and daughter—no one who could physically help. They were the only able-bodied young adults.
She sighed, took off her wig, handed it to Mo Yingxue: “Lin Zhixi, come down with me.”
Cong Die saw this and tried to unbuckle her safety strap, but Lin Zhixi stopped her.
This was a moon-shaped lake. There were BBQ pits on the shore, but no signs of human development. The water wasn’t deep, but it reached above their waists.
Yue Lei and Lin Zhixi both knew how to swim and how to maintain balance in the water. The three of them waded across and pulled the hot air balloon rope.
Watching the balloon fabric drag on the ground, the instructor looked distressed: “I should really stick to landing in the fields from now on. There are too many pebbles here. I hope the fabric isn’t torn.”
Yue Lei gave another tug and mused: “At least it didn’t tip over.”
Lin Zhixi added: “And it didn’t land in the forest.”
The instructor imagined those scenarios and decided landing in the water wasn’t so bad after all. When the hot air balloon basket finally reached the shallow water, the instructor unbuckled the safety straps to let the others out.
Yue Lei took Mo Yingxue’s hand and asked with a smile: “Was it fun?”
Mo Yingxue touched her damp clothes and pants: “Let’s go back and change.”
It would take half an hour to walk back. Yue Lei shrugged: “The shuttle bus will be here in ten minutes. We’ll take the bus back.”
However, once they sat on the shuttle bus, a breeze hit them, and the soaked parts of their lower bodies felt numb.
Yue Lei glanced at Lin Zhixi, who was also shivering.
She sighed: “I shouldn’t have been so eager. We should have waited in the basket for the staff to come get us.” The weather itself was warm, but not being able to change into dry clothes in time made the wet fabric sticking to their legs feel intensely cold.
Back at the hotel, Mo Yingxue immediately sent Yue Lei into the bathroom to take a hot shower.
When she quickly finished and came out, Mo Yingxue was holding a steaming hot drink. Yue Lei smelled the spicy ginger, took a sip, and found it sweet and slightly peppery. She couldn’t help but ask: “Where did you get ginger tea?”
Mo Yingxue: “I bought it at the convenience store downstairs. Drink it quickly.”
“Xiao Xue is so good to me,” Yue Lei chuckled, absolutely delighted. No one dislikes being cared for. Although she was usually the one caring for Mo Yingxue, being cared for in return occasionally felt deeply comforting.
After finishing one cup, she suddenly remembered: “Lin Zhixi is cold too. Did you get some for her, Xiao Xue?”
“Yes, I did. Don’t worry.” Mo Yingxue took the cup, poured her another, and watched her drink it. Only then did she pat the chair in front of her: “Sit here. I’ll blow-dry your hair.”
It was the first time her wife had offered to dry her hair.
Yue Lei’s eyes lit up, and she rushed over, placing her hands neatly on her lap like a kindergarten student.
Mo Yingxue treated Yue Lei’s hair exactly as she would her own. Feeling her wife’s slender fingers weaving through her hair, Yue Lei felt so comfortable she was on the verge of falling asleep. The hot air of the dryer made her face and heart feel warm.
After drying her hair, Mo Yingxue walked towards the bed. She lay flat and pulled back the covers: “Come over, and warm up some more.”
“I’m not cold anymore after the shower,” she said, but Yue Lei’s body was completely out of her control, and her soul was pulled onto the bed with her.
She could feel that Mo Yingxue was slightly more proactive than usual today, her warm, soft body snuggling closer to her. Yue Lei thought My wife is so good, warming the bed for me so I don’t catch a cold. She gave a soft yawn, buried her head in Mo Yingxue’s neck, and closed her eyes to sleep.
They had returned to the hotel early, and Mo Yingxue hadn’t planned on sleeping this early. She shifted back and forth in Yue Lei’s arms, purely trying to see if she could arouse her.
But then she heard the light, steady breathing next to her—the girl was really asleep.
Mo Yingxue stared stiffly at the ceiling. This was completely different from the scene she had envisioned. She wasn’t tired, but Yue Lei was clinging to her tightly like an octopus. She couldn’t leave, so she decided to close her eyes and sleep too.
When she woke up again, it was dark. Yue Lei picked up her phone and saw that a few minutes ago, Lin Zhixi had asked her if they wanted to go to the bonfire party. Her wife was still sleeping, and she was about to reply no.
Then Mo Yingxue gently stirred. She looked at Yue Lei with drowsy eyes, her voice soft and languid with sleep: “What is it?”
“You’re awake.” Yue Lei showed her the phone: “Lin Zhixi is asking if we want to go to the bonfire party.” Today was their second day at the mountain ranch. They only held bonfire parties on the 2nd, 5th, and 8th of the month; other nights only had BBQ and no entertainment. Last night was the 4th of August, so the evening activities were nothing special. Today, the 5th of August, they finally had a bonfire party.
Mo Yingxue instantly perked up: “Let’s go. Tell them to wait ten minutes. We’ll get ready.”
It had to be said that the mountain ranch was highly recommended in Fencheng for a reason. The organizers put a lot of effort into the bonfire party. Before they even arrived, they could hear the cheerful, distant music and the laughter of people singing and dancing.
In the center of the square, a tall bonfire blazed fiercely. Staff members watched over it, occasionally adding wood, preventing children and pets from getting too close.
Many people were holding hands and dancing, likely a local Fencheng ethnic dance. They were singing and dancing, the atmosphere warm and energetic, stirring the hearts of those watching. Cong Die, being from Fencheng, was instantly drawn to the dancing. She couldn’t move.
After confirming that Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue weren’t interested in joining, she pulled Lin Zhixi and headed into the crowd.
It wasn’t that they were shy; Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue had just woken up and their bodies still felt sluggish. They didn’t feel like jumping around. Besides, they didn’t know the local dance moves, and it would be bad if their lack of coordination caused others to fall. They decided to watch first.
Glancing at the row of official stalls, Yue Lei suggested: “Let’s buy something to eat.”
Fried skewers, sour fruits, mango juice, pounded chicken feet… The stalls here also sold fried insects, but Yue Lei didn’t dare to try any.
She completely avoided looking at the stall selling freshly brewed beer. Anyone who had just been hospitalized with food poisoning from these items would steer clear of them for a long time.
Sure enough, Mo Yingxue tugged her sleeve: “Sis, your stomach hasn’t recovered yet. Buy less, and eat less street food.”
Yue Lei nodded vigorously: “Mhm, mhm. I’m buying for Lin Zhixi and the others. I’ll only eat a tiny bit.”
When they reached the dining area, they had just sat down when they heard a voice coming from nearby.
“Friend, maybe you should think carefully about why your boyfriend’s heart rate suddenly spiked to trigger his watch’s alarm at two in the morning. Is he really the type of person who goes running at night? Do you trust him, or do you trust that I’m Qin Shi Huang?”
Yue Lei raised an eyebrow and averted her gaze: “Sounds like a relationship streamer.”
