Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 42
Chapter 42: Just Be with Me, Look at Me.
Mo Yingxue went back to her bedroom, quickly put on a long dress, and then took out Miss Z’s phone.
Z: “I was in a meeting this afternoon. Is the stream over?”
Her busy times had overlapped with Miss Z’s before. Although she had always managed to smooth things over, she would inevitably give herself away over time. So now, Mo Yingxue wanted to use this time lag to dispel any doubts Yue Lei might have.
Yue Lei didn’t reply immediately, which actually pleased her more. Mo Yingxue was a hypocrite; she didn’t want Yue Lei chatting with others right before they went out together. She casually exchanged a few more greetings.
Just as she was about to put her phone down, she added one more sentence.
Z: “I’ve missed you a bit. Show me what you’re wearing today.”
Yue Lei picked up her phone and saw many messages from Miss Z. Her eyes scanned the request for an OOTD and then slid down.
Z: “You have a transfer of $10,000 waiting to be received.”
She couldn’t help but wonder what Miss Z meant by sending this money. Was it compensation for not topping up her account for several days and not attending the stream today? Or was it simply a reward for showing her outfit?
Yue Lei had never accepted her private transfers before, and today she immediately clicked the refund button. But she couldn’t ignore the messages from her “Great Love Sister.”
After thinking for a moment, Yue Lei took a few selfies in front of the mirror. She didn’t want to wear a bra, so she wore a black T-shirt for coverage. For the bottom, she paired it with hot pants decorated with chains, ripped stockings, and boots. Her long, slightly curly hair was tied high up with a leopard print headband. Today, she was a vibrant, full-of-energy Y2K hot girl.
Yue Lei cropped a small picture from her album and sent it to Miss Z.
Yue Lei: “Something funny happened during the stream today. The audience told me they saw you tipping another streamer, hey.”
After sending that, she felt a little green tea-ish and, in a rush of heat, started frantically backpedaling.
Yue Lei: “I’m not jealous, and I’m not being unreasonable. Actually, I was quite happy to hear the news, because my streaming time is never fixed, and we often can’t see each other. So, if you’ve found a new streamer you like, I’m happy for you. As long as you keep me in your heart and are still willing to come see me, that’s enough.”
Yue Lei: “Can you tell me if you just casually scrolled across a new streamer and liked her, or if you’re planning to switch to being her ‘Great Love Sister’? I just need to be mentally prepared.”
Yue Lei: “I’ve taken today’s OOTD pictures #screenshot#, I’ll show you if you answer me. Tell me exactly what you’re thinking, please, please don’t lie to me.”
As she typed, her side of the chat filled the entire screen. Yue Lei knew she was talkative. Whenever she wanted to say something, she couldn’t stop and would ramble on. But for online communication, Yue Lei set her limit at one full screen. After sending one screen of text, even if she had more to say, she would endure the wait until she received a reply.
Yue Lei couldn’t help but recall the previous life, where her chat history with her wife was basically a screen from her and one or two sentences from her wife. However, when chatting with her wife, she never felt as annoyed as she did now. That’s because she knew her wife would always reply. Sometimes, when she had too much to say, Mo Yingxue would simply call her directly instead of typing. Her wife’s calls were always a surprise to Yue Lei.
Yue Lei waited two minutes, but Miss Z didn’t reply. She heard footsteps outside the door and immediately put away her phone to open it. Mo Yingxue muted her phone as she walked down the stairs. Just as she approached Yue Lei’s door, she sent the composed message.
As Yue Lei opened the door, both of them heard Yue Lei’s WeChat notification sound. Mo Yingxue appropriately looked puzzled: “Who are you chatting with so late, Sister?”
Yue Lei’s heart tightened, not expecting Miss Z to reply right at this moment. She scratched her head and explained: “It’s the fan who gives me a lot of gifts. She didn’t come to the stream today, so I asked her if she was busy with something else.”
Although she was well aware that she and Miss Z had done nothing inappropriate, she just couldn’t be forthright in front of Mo Yingxue.
Fortunately, Mo Yingxue didn’t press the issue. Instead, she looped her arm through Yue Lei’s and rested her face on her shoulder. She lamented self-pityingly: “I wish I had a lot of money. Then I would be Sister’s top gifter, and I wouldn’t be here feeling jealous.”
Yue Lei’s heart warmed, and she quickly soothed her: “It’s okay, Baby. I’m right here with you. Plus, you pay me such a high salary, and I barely have anything to do all day. When I tell my friends about my job, they all think I’ve had incredible luck.”
Mo Yingxue relaxed and laughed: “That’s true. I was swamped during finals week. We haven’t painted for almost ten days.”
Yue Lei asked her: “Then, when we go traveling in a few days, are you bringing your drawing board?”
“Just some sketch paper. I’ll take lots of photos. If I draw, it’ll only be landscapes.” Mo Yingxue answered, then tugged on her sleeve again: “Sister, your top gifter has been waiting for a long time. Aren’t you going to reply?”
“Reply, reply…” Yue Lei said, but her wife, right beside her, made no move to step away. So, she had no choice but to take out her phone and send the message under Mo Yingxue’s scrutiny.
Z: “My sister came to the company to visit me this afternoon, and I didn’t have time to entertain her, so I left her in the office alone. She probably didn’t log out of my Qingyin Live account on the computer and was just browsing around and randomly giving gifts. The account balance hadn’t decreased much, so I didn’t even notice.”
Upon seeing this message, the ordinary Yue Lei instantly cheered up again. However, she still kept up her act.
Yue Lei: “So that’s what happened. I overthought it. I must say, knowing you didn’t promote anyone else makes me nervous again. Without a sister to share Z’s love with, I have to prepare thoroughly for my next streams and win by quality!”
Then, while stealing a glance at Mo Yingxue from the corner of her eye, she quickly swiped and sent a few selfies. She thought she was fast enough, but her wife still caught her.
“Sister!” Mo Yingxue cried out, grabbing her wrist tightly: “What photos did you send her?”
“Nothing, just today’s outfit! The rich woman wanted to see it, I couldn’t say no!”
Yue Lei conceded, dutifully opening the chat history. Mo Yingxue scrolled up suspiciously. Yue Lei wasn’t entirely sure if she had seen their previous messages. She mentally reviewed the chat, confirming she hadn’t called ZZ “wife” today in her moment of candidness.
While Yue Lei was on tenterhooks, Mo Yingxue finished checking the phone and looked at her with a knowing smile: “Why didn’t you accept her transfer?”
Yue Lei answered instantly: “I don’t want to have too much contact with her in the real world. Streamers and fans need to keep their distance! I accept everything she spends in the live stream! As for sending her my outfit, that’s fan service, to make her keep spending gifts in my stream!”
Mo Yingxue reluctantly accepted this answer. She looked up at Yue Lei, her dark eyes seemingly hiding a thousand emotions, until Yue Lei began to feel goosebumps under her predatory gaze. Only then did she smile and hug Yue Lei’s neck: “Seeing Sister work so hard makes me so sad. I’m definitely going to become a rich woman and support you, so you don’t have to work or stream, and can just be with me and look at me all day.”
The words were half-genuine, half-teasing, but they made Yue Lei feel both bashful and hot.
“I’m an adult. How can I just keep living off you…” she murmured, then couldn’t resist kissing Mo Yingxue’s lips again, physically showing her how happy she was right now.
This kiss was interrupted by a rumbling stomach. Yue Lei let go of Mo Yingxue, rubbing her belly sheepishly: “Come on, let’s go eat.”
Just as Mo Yingxue had said, her mother was gone early and came back late, as if the house were just a hotel for sleeping. Yue Lei’s mood gradually shifted from nervous to relaxed. During the day, she dared to leave the bedroom, either playing with the cats, watching a movie with Mo Yingxue in the living room, or reading in the courtyard.
Today, Mo Yingxue had gone out to visit an art exhibition. It was a non-profit lacquer painting exhibition. Admission was free for art students with their student ID, and for the general public, tickets were randomly drawn. Yue Lei was unlucky and didn’t get a ticket. She tried various methods but still couldn’t go with her.
Mo Yingxue was allergic to raw lacquer and wasn’t particularly interested in lacquer painting herself. When she saw Yue Lei couldn’t go, she didn’t want to either. But Wu Jiajia particularly liked a few of the pieces and didn’t want to go alone. After much pleading, Mo Yingxue reluctantly went out.
The gardener who tended to Mo Yingxue’s flowers happened to be there, so Yue Lei stayed by her side, chatting and learning the trade. In her previous life, she had given her wife many flowers, but her wife always handled them herself. She knew she would send many more flowers in this life. But now, Yue Lei wanted to handle the flowers properly herself, so her wife wouldn’t have to worry about them.
The gardener was a talkative middle-aged woman. Before, when she came to Mo Yingxue’s house, no one ever talked to her. She could only listen to audiobooks while working, which was incredibly boring. Seeing Yue Lei’s interest today, she was happy to show off her skills and share her knowledge.
The gardener handed her phone to Yue Lei: “Sometimes, the harder you prune a plant, the better it grows. Look how well this multi-headed rose is growing. It’s flourishing like a lollipop, opening so many flowers. But look at what I pruned it down to before.”
Yue Lei was very complimentary. She looked at the photo and gasped: “You cut it down to a stump! Sister, if you hadn’t told me, I’d think it was chopped down at the waist!”
The gardener laughed heartily: “Hahaha, I didn’t expect it to grow so well either! The flowers are about to wilt anyway, so I’ll cut some down for you to put in a vase.”
Next, she began explaining to Yue Lei how to cut the flower stem at an angle, how to prepare nutrient solutions, and how to revive the flowers. Yue Lei listened very attentively. She even pulled out her phone’s notepad and started taking notes.
Suddenly, she heard footsteps approaching. Mo Yingxue’s house was in a quiet location, and practically no one ever walked by here. Yue Lei raised her head curiously, then froze solid.
It was the sound of Ms. Mo Shu’s flat shoes stepping one by one on the bluestone path. She had come home early today! Mo Yingxue wasn’t home! And she hadn’t introduced herself to her mother!
Now Yue Lei couldn’t run and couldn’t stay. She was paralyzed, unsure what to do.
Mo Shu also hadn’t expected to see strangers in the courtyard. She glanced at the two women, seeing they were holding scissors and floral materials, wearing straw hats, and had soil on their shoes. She gave a knowing look and nodded kindly: “Thank you for your hard work tending to my garden. It’s so hot. I’ll go call Aunt Wang to prepare some drinks.”
