Pregnant with the Empress’s Alpha Heir - Chapter 6
“Did you do all this just to break off the engagement with the Huo family?” Father Yu glared fiercely at Yu Zhitao.
His face flushed red with anger: “When Huo Yun first had his accident, the Huo family sent people to ask for your opinion. What did you say back then? That no matter what happened to Huo Yun, you would marry him!
“And now you’re going back on your word? How am I supposed to explain this to the Huo family?!”
At the mention of this, Yu Zhitao’s mood also became complicated.
In truth, the original owner of this body had deeply loved her fiancé.
Huo Yun was the most outstanding among the younger generation of the Huo family. He had joined the Imperial Army early, with a future full of promise. By all accounts, Yu Zhitao’s engagement to him had been a stroke of luck for her family.
But misfortune always comes without warning.
A year ago, Huo Yun was injured during a mission. Though his life was saved, the unique mental domain of an Alpha was severely damaged, and he was left permanently disabled, never able to stand again.
This incident directly caused him to fall from grace, reduced to a cripple.
Even the Huo family felt that Huo Yun, in his current state, was no longer worthy of Yu Zhitao, so they had come to discuss the engagement. But at that time, the original owner was already deeply in love with Huo Yun, vowing to marry him no matter what.
Thus, the engagement remained intact.
Who could have guessed that a year later, the original owner would inexplicably die, and the body would now house Yu Zhitao from Earth?
At first, when Yu Zhitao learned about the engagement, she had planned to endure it temporarily while looking for a way to dissolve it.
But after meeting Huo Yun, she couldn’t bear it any longer.
She didn’t know if it was just her being overly sensitive, but she couldn’t shake the inexplicable fear she felt toward Huo Yun sitting in his wheelchair.
During the few days he came to visit her, she could barely even eat.
That was why she had resorted to such a desperate measure, going to a bar to find someone to mark her.
Taking a deep breath, Yu Zhitao pushed these distracting thoughts aside and said to Father Yu, “In any case, now that I’ve been marked, I’m no longer qualified to be the Huo family’s daughter-in-law.
“Father, let’s end this engagement as soon as possible.”
Father Yu clenched his teeth. “I think you’ve lost your mind!”
He pointed toward the inner chambers of the house. “Go to your room right now and reflect on your actions. You’re not allowed to leave without my permission!”
Having come this far, Yu Zhitao had no intention of dragging things out.
She shook her head firmly. “Father, I’m an adult now, and I know what I’m doing. Since you probably don’t want to see me for a while, I’ve decided to move out.”
The original owner had always been obedient and gentle, never once defying her father’s orders. Yu Zhitao’s sudden defiance left Father Yu momentarily stunned.
Li Huaisang quickly stepped forward. “Ah, don’t be angry, dear.”
She frowned at Yu Zhitao. “Zhitao, how could you speak to your father like that? Apologize to him at once.”
Yu Zhitao pressed her lips together. “Father, Mother, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go pack my things now.”
Father Yu finally snapped out of his daze.
He scoffed. “You really don’t know your place, do you? You think I can’t do anything about this?!
“Yu Zhitao, if you dare take one step out of this house today, don’t expect to use a single cent from this family ever again!”
Yu Zhitao paused mid-step, then walked away without looking back.
She wasn’t like the delicate noblewoman the original owner had been. Having survived her childhood by collecting scraps with her grandfather, such threats meant nothing to her.
Besides, she wasn’t the Yu family’s real daughter. Cutting ties with their money would lift a weight off her conscience.
Back in her room, Yu Zhitao pulled out a suitcase and began packing.
She had long planned to leave, so she had already gathered her essentials. Now, it was just a matter of putting them into the suitcase, hardly any effort at all.
Finally, she glanced around, walked to the desk, and took the original owner’s most recent diary.
With everything done, she dragged her suitcase out the door.
Perhaps on Yu Father’s orders, none of the many guards in the Yu household stopped her as she made her way out.
Yu Zhitao smoothly exited the Yu estate, hailed a hover-taxi, and prepared to return to Linhan Residential District.
Not long after she left, Li Huaisang entered Yu Father’s study.
“Master, that child Zhitao… took a taxi and left.”
Yu Father didn’t even look up. “Let her go.”
Li Huaisang approached him. “Sigh, she’s an Omega. Are you really going to cut off all her funds, even freeze the inheritance her birth mother left her?”
“How will she survive out there?”
Yu Father finally raised his head. “Right, I almost forgot about her mother’s share.”
He opened the communication app on his wrist and issued a few more commands. “I want to make sure she can’t survive! When she comes crawling back to apologize, I’ll teach her a proper lesson!”
Li Huaisang feigned a sigh. “Why must you go this far?”
After finishing his commands, Yu Father looked at her. “Doesn’t she own a property in that residential district developed by your family?”
Li Huaisang nodded.
Two years ago, when Yu Zhitao bought the apartment, it was she who had recommended it.
Yu Father nodded. “With no home and no money, she’ll have no choice but to go there.”
“Call the district’s manager. First, revoke her ownership rights. And no matter what requests Yu Zhitao makes, don’t comply! Let’s see how long she can last like this.”
Some of these actions weren’t exactly legal, but for someone of Yu Father’s noble standing, arranging this was no trouble at all.
Li Huaisang could only nod in agreement.
Then, she left the study, muttering to herself as she dialed the district manager. “Yu Zhitao, don’t blame me. You brought this on yourself.”
Yu Zhitao knew nothing of this conversation.
Sitting in the hover-taxi, she suddenly thought of something and urgently opened her smart wrist-computer to check.
Yu Father had acted swiftly. Barely ten minutes after leaving the Yu household, all the funds in her accounts had been frozen.
Even worse, every property registered under her name big or small had been grayed out, rendered unusable.
This meant the apartment where she had housed Ah Jiu and Xiao Jiu was no longer hers!
For a moment, Yu Zhitao was stunned.
Upon arrival, she used her good credit score to defer payment, then rushed out of the taxi and hurried to the gates of Linhan Residential District.
As expected, she was immediately blocked by the district’s security system.
Gritting her teeth, Yu Zhitao opened the live customer service channel.
After several minutes of waiting, a representative finally answered.
Yu Zhitao calmly stated, “Hello, I’m the previous owner of Unit 502 in Area A. My apartment was temporarily frozen, but my friend and cat are still inside. Could you please open the door so I can bring them out?”
The customer service representative’s voice was icy. “Insufficient authorization. Unable to assist.”
Yu Zhitao grew anxious. “Then what about my friend?”
The representative finally glanced at her. “Since your ‘owner’ status has been temporarily revoked, all ‘VIP guest’ permissions you previously set have also been removed. If they’re still inside… even the door will be locked.”
“You understand how serious this is!” Yu Zhitao stared intently at the representative. “I don’t need anything from the apartment, just please let them out.”
“Insufficient authorization.” Recalling the documents from higher-ups, the representative frowned impatiently. “I suggest you contact the current apartment owner directly, or…”
He tapped on the keyboard. “Or you could call the police. We’ll open the door once we receive official notification from them.”
Yu Zhitao was stunned.
She couldn’t understand why something as simple as letting people out had to be made so complicated by customer service.
While she was still processing this, the representative unilaterally ended the call, and the system panel displayed a service rating button.
Yu Zhitao gave the lowest rating and called again, ready to argue further. But before the new call could connect, the screen suddenly went black.
As she waited anxiously, pacing in place, the gate in front of her suddenly opened.
Turning around, she saw Ah Jiu standing at the community entrance, holding Xiao Jiu in one arm and a crossbody bag in the other.
Overjoyed, Yu Zhitao ran over and hugged Ah Jiu tightly, burying her face in her chest as tears fell. “Ah Jiu, you’re out?! I… I thought I’d gotten you both killed!”
Ah Jiu stood frozen in place.
After quickly venting her emotions, Yu Zhitao looked up with tear-filled eyes. “How did you get out? Didn’t the door lock automatically?”
Ah Jiu stared at the tears on her face, finding them unbearably irritating.
Turning away, she answered simply, “I was in the living room when the power and water suddenly cut off. Suspecting something might have happened to you, I brought the cat and left.”
Hearing how casually she said it, Yu Zhitao sighed in relief. “That’s good! That customer service rep scared me to death!”
What she didn’t know was that the representative hadn’t been exaggerating.
It’s just that to get out smoothly, this seemingly dull Alpha had hacked the entire community’s security system.
Meanwhile, at the property management headquarters of Linhan Community, maintenance staff stared at the blacked-out surveillance feeds and the completely illogical programming language, their scalps tingling as they exchanged helpless glances, unable to even find where to begin repairs.
“Which big shot did we offend?” muttered the head of security maintenance.
No one could answer his question.
The entire headquarters was either filled with amateurs scrambling in chaos or professionals like them left speechless.
The mastermind, Ah Jiu, now lifted her eyelids and asked, “What happened?”
Yu Zhitao was taken aback.
Ah Jiu had always been indifferent to her own affairs, yet now she was actively concerned about Yu Zhitao’s situation.
Yu Zhitao’s nose turned red again.
Suppressing her grievances and forcing herself to appear indifferent, she explained with a tearful voice, “I had, a bit of a disagreement with my family. My father froze all my assets.”
As she spoke, she took the kitten from Ah Jiu’s arms: “I’m sorry, Ah Jiu. I might not be able to take care of you for now.”
Ah Jiu found it all very strange.
She couldn’t understand why this little Omega before her would consider taking care of her as her own responsibility. Did she see her as nothing more than that clingy kitten in her arms, always mewling for milk?
What was even stranger was that she didn’t feel the slightest discomfort about it.
