Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 33
While Jiang Mengzhi was busy researching the information, Fan Wu didn’t stay idle either. She used her phone to contact Sang Zhijiu, wanting to do her best to coax the little one. But this time, the roles had reversed; the cold and aloof one was now Sang Zhijiu. Fan Wu sent over ten messages before receiving a single, pitying response from the girl.
[Jiujiu: Oh.]
[Jiujiu: Director Fan, I’m going to sleep now. If there’s anything, let’s talk tomorrow.]
Looking at these two messages, Fan Wu felt both anxious and helpless.
Changing the address to “Director Fan” meant she was definitely quite angry. However, Sang Zhijiu truly did need her rest, and Fan Wu didn’t dare disturb her further, so she could only follow her lead.
[Senior W: Okay. Goodnight, Jiujiu. By the way, say goodnight to the little baby for me, okay?]
[Senior W: Jiujiu, I love you.]
Lying in bed, Sang Zhijiu stuck out her tongue when she saw that sentence, inwardly complaining about how mushy and cheesy Fan Wu was being. But after turning off her screen and settling under the covers, the corners of her mouth couldn’t help but curl up in a secret smile.
The heartless mother-to-be soon sank into a dreamland along with her little fetus.
On Fan Wu’s side, driven by the urgent need to uncover the truth, she stayed awake until the early hours of the morning when she finally received the materials from Jiang Mengzhi.
Under the guise of looking for a lost item, Jiang Mengzhi had obtained the surveillance footage from the hotel elevator on the day the incident occurred. Although the footage on the 22nd floor had been handled by Fan Zhengzhi, one could already see a great deal just from the footage inside the elevator.
At approximately 11:19 PM that night, Zhan Yue-rou appeared in the elevator wearing the outfit Fan Wu remembered, heading straight for the 22nd floor where Fan Wu’s room was located. However, at 11:32 PM, she reappeared at the 22nd-floor elevator doors.
That area was equipped with two elevators, neither of which was on the 22nd floor at the time. Zhan Yue-rou was very impatient and pressed both the up and down buttons for both elevators in a frenzy. The elevator on the left arrived first, so she took it and left.
Around 11:30 PM, a tipsy Sang Zhijiu returned to the hotel. She pressed the button for the 24th floor where her room was and leaned against the elevator wall to wait. After a moment, the elevator stopped, the automatic doors opened, and she walked out.
But in reality, she wasn’t on the 24th floor at that moment. Because of Zhan Yue-rou’s frustrated button-mashing earlier, the elevator had stopped on the 22nd floor, and she had arrived on Fan Wu’s floor. Since one needed to take a dedicated VIP elevator to go above the 20th floor, and no one else had used those two elevators during that time, this little accident occurred.
What happened next could be easily imagined.
Because a drunken Fan Wu hadn’t locked her door, Sang Zhijiu had wandered in dazed and confused. Ultimately, under the influence of the pheromones from a secondary differentiation, the two of them ended up in bed together by a twist of fate.
Seeing Sang Zhijiu reappear in the elevator around 2:00 AM, looking panicked and lost as she fled back to her room on the 24th floor, Fan Wu’s heart wrenched with intense pain and pity.
So, the person with her that night wasn’t Zhan Yue-rou at all; it was the little one!
And because Fan Wu had experienced a brief moment of false sobriety and had a short interaction with her before she left the room, the girl had always firmly believed that Fan Wu must have memories of that time. The reality, however, was that Fan Wu had no recollection of it whatsoever!
For all this time, one of them had no idea the event even took place, while the other thought they both knew perfectly well and had simply chosen to keep the accident hidden and never speak of it. They had been talking past each other for so long.
No wonder; no wonder the girl’s attitude toward her had been like that afterward.
Upon learning the truth, Fan Wu couldn’t sit still. She immediately got up and headed to Sang Zhijiu’s room. But just as she was about to knock, she remembered that Sang Zhijiu was already asleep. Forcing down the excitement in her heart, Fan Wu lowered her hand.
After standing at Sang Zhijiu’s door for a while, she was unwilling to leave. She simply reached out to lightly clean a spot on the floor, then leaned against the wall and slowly sat down.
For the entire night, while Sang Zhijiu was sweetly immersed in her dreams, Fan Wu opened her phone and read through their exchanges over the past few days over and over again, digesting this major news in her heart.
Over and over, she kissed Sang Zhijiu in her mind.
Before she knew it, the sky grew bright.
Having gone to sleep early last night, Sang Zhijiu woke up very early as well. She felt like there was something strange at the door, but she couldn’t see anything through the peephole, so she simply opened the door and looked out into the hallway.
In doing so, she locked eyes with Fan Wu, who was sitting right there against the wall.
After a two-second reaction delay, Sang Zhijiu asked blankly, “Why are you here?”
Fan Wu stood up. “You’re awake?” There were dark circles under her eyes, but her mental state was very good. “Did you sleep well?”
Sang Zhijiu realized what happened. “You didn’t sit here the entire night, did you?”
Fan Wu replied, “I just found out such an important truth, I couldn’t stay in my own room. I figured I might as well keep watch here.”
Sang Zhijiu was somewhat speechless. Coming back to her senses, she lowered her head and muttered, “It’s not like you’re acting in a movie, so silly!” She looked at Fan Wu. “You’re so grown up, yet you can still do such impulsive things that only young people do.”
This sentence was meant to be her usual mockery, but to her surprise, Fan Wu wasn’t angry at all.
The Great Movie Queen Fan sighed and replied, “My mindset has always been very young, especially when it comes to things concerning you. However, I’ve been intentionally restraining myself for fear of scaring you.”
Sang Zhijiu’s face suddenly flushed red. She moved aside to make some room. “Stop talking and just come in.”
Once they were inside, Sang Zhijiu glanced at the time. “Um, you still have three hours. If you don’t want to ask for leave later, hurry up and catch some sleep.”
Fan Wu said, “I’m afraid I might not be able to fall asleep.”
Sang Zhijiu gave her a reproachful glare. “You stayed up all night, how could you not be able to sleep?” She forcefully pulled Fan Wu to the bedside and pointed at the slightly messy bedding. “Sleep!”
Fan Wu couldn’t help but break into a smile. She requested, “Then will you lie down with me for a bit?”
Sang Zhijiu thought for a moment. “Fine. But I need to look at the script. You sleep on your own and don’t disturb me.”
Fan Wu nodded. “Okay.” She reached out. “I definitely won’t.”
They both got onto the bed. Sang Zhijiu leaned against the headboard, and Fan Wu naturally rested her head on Sang Zhijiu’s lap.
Sang Zhijiu felt a bit uncomfortable, but she didn’t have the heart to push her away. She covered her face with the script, fearing that the faint blush on her face would betray her unsettled state of mind.
Pillowed on her lap, Fan Wu stared at her belly for a while. At this stage, she was already several months pregnant. Because of Sang Zhijiu’s petite constitution, the pregnancy wasn’t very obvious. However, looking closely, one could still see a clear, protruding silhouette.
Sang Zhijiu herself had been quite oblivious, actually thinking she had just gotten fat from eating.
Thinking that a little-little person with the blood of both of them was currently growing inside the girl’s belly, Fan Wu couldn’t help but smile happily. She reached out and touched it gently.
Sang Zhijiu looked down. “What are you doing?”
Fan Wu looked up at her. “Jiujiu?”
Sang Zhijiu: “Hmm?”
Fan Wu spoke slowly, “I’m very sorry about what happened before.”
The stories provided by Fan Zhengzhi and Zhan Yue-rou had formed a relatively complete logical chain, and Fan Wu herself could never have imagined that the person she had actually been with was someone else entirely, so she had never discovered the truth. This was what she felt most guilty about.
Sang Zhijiu replied, “Oh.” Suddenly, she said, “Actually, it’s quite good that you didn’t find out.”
Fan Wu was stunned. “Why?”
Sang Zhijiu explained, “I remembered that actually, shortly after it happened, I took a contraceptive pill. But back then, I had just gone through my secondary differentiation and didn’t realize I had become an Omega. I bought the contraceptive pills meant for Betas, which is why the baby was lucky enough to stay. Fortunately, the baby’s development is perfectly normal now and wasn’t affected by the Beta pills, otherwise…”
After a pause, she continued, “But if you hadn’t forgotten about it back then, things might have been different. Someone as cautious as you would definitely have confirmed my status regarding the pills. With you supervising, I probably would have taken the right medicine.”
She stroked the little baby in her belly, her expression a bit sorrowful. “If that were the case, the baby might not exist.”
After hearing this, Fan Wu remained silent for a long time, seemingly lost in thought. A moment later, she said, “That’s not true.”
Sang Zhijiu looked at her. “Why?”
Fan Wu smiled and replied, “When I mistakenly thought the person I’d been with was Zhan Yue-rou, I only felt disgust and helplessness. But I just tried to imagine; if I had known back then that the person with me was you, after the initial surprise, I would have been happy. If that were the case, I could have realized my feelings for you sooner, and I could have treated you well sooner, so that you and the baby could have been properly taken care of from the very beginning.”
With a red face, Sang Zhijiu looked away. “But I didn’t like you back then. I definitely wouldn’t have paid any attention to you.”
Fan Wu showed a somewhat cunning smile. “It doesn’t matter. You just stay right where you are and focus on your own happiness; I’ll handle everything else.”
Sang Zhijiu’s heart beat faster and faster. She knew Fan Wu wasn’t lying, but she was truly too shy. She pursed her lips tightly and finally managed to squeeze out three words: “Hindsight is 20/20.”
Fan Wu didn’t mind. She said, “I know there’s no point in dwelling on the past. We have the present and the future. Jiujiu, give me a chance to take care of you and the little baby, okay? I promise I will never let either of you suffer any more harm or grievance.”
Sang Zhijiu was incredibly happy inside, but she still maintained her proud exterior. She tilted her little chin up. “Talking is useless for this kind of thing.”
Then, she changed the subject. “It’s getting late, you should hurry up and get some sleep. I’m thinking of finishing the last few scenes so I can finish filming and go back to rest; you can’t delay the progress.”
Reminded of this, Fan Wu nodded. “Right, we can’t delay the progress. Then I’ll take a nap. Wake me up at 9:30.”
Sang Zhijiu nodded.
Fan Wu then closed her eyes while still pillowed on Sang Zhijiu’s lap. She had indeed stayed up all night, and now that she had received Sang Zhijiu’s forgiveness, she didn’t have such a heavy burden on her mind, so she quickly fell asleep.
Rarely having such an opportunity, Sang Zhijiu put down her script and looked at her seriously. Fan Wu was undoubtedly very good-looking. Moreover, unlike herself, Fan Wu’s beauty had a touch of heroism to it; it was the kind of appearance she used to like most. In fact, Fan Wu didn’t know that Sang Zhijiu had always liked her a lot.
Sang Zhijiu herself had never imagined that one day, the idol she once liked would be lying on her lap, and that the two of them would soon be welcoming a little baby.
The feeling was truly wonderful. She greedily traced the lines of Fan Wu’s face, inch by inch, wanting to carve the person into her heart. Finally, she couldn’t help herself and directly reached out, gently rubbing Fan Wu’s face with her fingertips.
On an ordinary and plain morning, amidst a room full of dawn light, Sang Zhijiu lightly caressed Fan Wu’s face. The corners of her mouth curled up uncontrollably, yet she murmured a playful curse.
“Bastard.”
