Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 31
Fan Wu was relieved that there were only a few scenes left before the wrap-up, giving her something to do so she wouldn’t be stuck at home in a daze.
The news of Sang Zhijiu’s pregnancy hadn’t leaked yet. She had taken two days off citing physical discomfort. When Fan Wu heard this from the staff, she couldn’t quite describe her feelings, but she instinctively felt a sense of relief. If she had to face Sang Zhijiu right now, she might not be able to act composed.
Fan Wu quickly adjusted, directing the crew to film several segments that didn’t involve Sang Zhijiu. Although Director Fan was somewhat distracted throughout, these scenes weren’t critical. With the help of two assistant directors, work proceeded on schedule despite a few minor hiccups.
However, Fan Wu soon discovered that high-intensity work couldn’t stop her mind from drifting toward Sang Zhijiu. During filming, she would instinctively look around, wanting to see Sang Zhijiu resting nearby. At lunch, she wanted to eat with her. When she finished work and returned to the hotel at night, she would subconsciously check her messaging apps to see when Sang Zhijiu was coming to practice scenes.
Because their dinner invitation and the subsequent discussions about the pregnancy had all happened via SMS, it wasn’t until Fan Wu noticed that their chat on the app was stuck several days in the past that she snapped back to reality, putting her phone down with a sense of loneliness.
She picked up her script to study it, but in every one of Mu Yining’s plots, the name “Chen Yue” was unavoidable. Thinking that her Chen Yue was currently in the hospital for check-ups, Fan Wu collapsed and put the script back. She closed her eyes in avoidance, only to find that even without seeing or hearing anything, her mind was filled with the other woman’s image.
That kiss in the private room seemed to have flipped a switch. Her body and mind reacted honestly to her desire for Sang Zhijiu, an irrepressible longing.
Fan Wu was going crazy!
She stood up in annoyance, turned off the lights, and crawled into bed just after nine o’clock, trying to trick herself into sleeping. After tossing and turning for forty minutes, she gave up, got up, and found the phone she had discarded in the living room. After another half hour of hesitation, she opened the SMS interface.
[Senior W: Zhijiu, how was today? Did the check-ups go well?]
Sang Zhijiu wasn’t in a great mood. She had been waiting all day for a message from Fan Wu. It wasn’t until nightfall that this message finally arrived. Thinking that Fan Wu must be busy on set, she had managed to be patient. Now that it was here, her happiness was tinged with a bit of grievance. She decided she couldn’t reply immediately; she had to let that bastard Fan Wu experience the agony of waiting.
After a grueling wait of 3 minutes and 17 seconds, she haughtily picked up her phone and replied reservedly: [Not bad.]
Three words and a period. Yes, sufficiently cold!
[Senior W: Good.]
Sang Zhijiu stared at the reply, her eyes nearly popping out. Good? One word and a period?!
Why was Fan Wu acting even more indifferent than she was? It was their child, yet Fan Wu, the other mother, seemed so uncaring. Sang Zhijiu was angry.
[What are you doing? Why did you wait so late to message me? Do you know this is very bad? We already missed the first few months of the pregnancy. If you’re still this cold, what if the baby is born and doesn’t like you?]
Fan Wu smiled bitterly. What else can I do?
[Senior W: Sorry, I’m a bit tired.] [Senior W: Let the baby rest for a bit; let’s not talk about this. How… are you feeling? You weren’t on set today, and I actually felt unaccustomed to it. I kept looking for you instinctively, but I couldn’t find you.] [Senior W: Even though you were only gone for a day, I missed you a little.]
Since she couldn’t accept the child yet, she tried to avoid child-related topics as much as possible. Aside from that, her love and longing for Sang Zhijiu were real.
Reading these messages, Sang Zhijiu’s face suddenly turned red. She replied: [I went for a check-up today and listened to a doctor’s lecture. All the other moms-to-be had partners with them; I was so envious when I saw that. Sigh, but you’re so busy…] [Maybe we can go together after the wrap-up.]
Fan Wu stared at these two messages for a long time.
[Senior W: …Okay. When there’s a chance in the future, I’ll go with you.]
Sang Zhijiu was dissatisfied: [What do you mean ‘when there’s a chance’?] [You definitely have to come with me in the future!!!]
She used three exclamation points to show her determination. Fan Wu could only manage a silent, bitter smile in front of her phone.
[Senior W: It’s late. You should rest early too.] [Senior W: We’ll talk about other things when you return to the set the day after tomorrow.]
Sang Zhijiu was stunned. Mhm, we only talked for a little bit and now it’s time for bed? Despite her silent grumbling, she remained obedient: [Mhm, okay then. Goodnight.]
Finally, a bit of joy rose in Fan Wu.
[Senior W: Goodnight, Zhijiu.]
Satisfied, Sang Zhijiu happily pulled up the covers and fell into a deep sleep. Conversely, Fan Wu, who had said goodnight first, tossed and turned until two or three in the morning before finally drifting into a heavy, fitful sleep.
The next day, work on the set continued as usual. Fan Wu endured a headache to handle everything. She didn’t even have an appetite for dinner and hurried back to her room. Having slept so late the night before followed by a busy day, she was exhausted.
However, just as she finished her shower, there was a knock at the door. She looked through the peephole and saw Zhan Yuerou. Fan Wu frowned, wondering what Zhan Yuerou wanted.
She spoke through the door, “Sorry, I’m about to rest. Whatever it is, talk to me tomorrow.”
Zhan Yuerou’s voice sounded, “Di—Director Fan, it’s Yuerou. The scenes requiring extras are basically finished. I… I’m leaving tonight. I have something to say to you. Please let me in?”
Fan Wu didn’t want to see her. “I don’t think we have anything to talk about.”
Zhan Yuerou was persistent. “I really do! Just give me ten minutes, okay? I’ll leave after ten minutes!”
If it weren’t for her connection to Fan Wu, someone of her ability would never have made it into such a big production. If she left tonight with the other extras, it was easy to imagine that seeing Fan Wu in the future would be as difficult as climbing to heaven. Zhan Yuerou knew tonight was her last chance; she absolutely couldn’t give up.
Fan Wu rubbed her brow. She could hear the other woman’s persistence. If she didn’t deal with Zhan Yuerou, it would look very bad if anyone else saw. After a thought, she opened the door.
Once inside, Zhan Yuerou turned to close the door and walked into the living room. Fan Wu didn’t want to play host, but out of politeness, she got her a bottle of mineral water.
Zhan Yuerou took it and said softly, “Th—Thank you.”
Fan Wu sat in a single sofa and went straight to the point: “Say whatever you have to say.”
Zhan Yuerou pursed her lips. She began, “Sister Fan Wu.”
She had called her “Director Fan” at the door, but now she secretly changed the form of address. She took a deep breath. “It’s been several months since our last. I thought you probably need relief again lately.
Fan Wu frowned. “I take suppressants regularly.”
Zhan Yuerou was stunned for a moment, then said, “The longer you take suppressants, the less effective they become. Taking too many is bad for your body. You shouldn’t do that!”
Fan Wu snorted coldly. “So? What does that have to do with you?”
Zhan Yuerou gritted her teeth and finally revealed the purpose of her visit: ” I was thinking, I can help you.” Her face flushed slightly. “After all, we’ve already been together once. You… you should be satisfied with me, right?”
Fan Wu’s expression was unreadable, somewhere between a smile and a scowl. She didn’t speak, so Zhan Yuerou assumed it was a silent agreement and gathered her courage to continue: “Don’t… don’t misunderstand, I’m not asking for anything. It’s because I’ve always admired you. Even without money, I’m willing to help you. You can just treat me like a tool if you want. I want to help you.”
Fan Wu didn’t respond immediately, waiting five or six seconds before speaking: “So, are you finished?”
Zhan Yuerou was startled by her cold tone and nodded. “Finished.”
Fan Wu walked to her side. “Then let me make this clear to you for the last time.” She decided to explain the situation in detail: “That accident between us was not my intention. To be more precise, having a relationship with you then is one of the few stains on my life. Fan Zhengzhi took liberties, and I lost consciousness because I was drunk; it all stemmed from an accident. Nonetheless, I still respect you and feel that I offended you to some extent. Therefore, everything after that whether it was the extra money you received or your entry into the crew, counts as a bit of personal compensation from me.”
She paused, then continued, “But perhaps my kindness caused you some misunderstandings. Your repeated visits are troubling me. I hope everything ends here.”
With that, she turned and walked toward the door. Zhan Yuerou’s face was pale; she had realized the meaning. She followed Fan Wu to the foyer in a daze but wanted to make one last struggle: “Fan Wu, I didn’t want to cause you trouble. I want to help you.”
“I don’t care what you think,” Fan Wu said coldly. “But if there’s a next time, Miss Zhan, I will call security directly. I hope you understand.”
After saying this, she opened the door and said, “Please leave…”
But her voice cut off abruptly. Outside the door, Sang Zhijiu who had rushed back to the set early after finishing all her check-ups had her hand raised, looking as if she were about to knock.
Seeing Fan Wu, her expression was initially joyful, but the next moment, she saw Zhan Yuerou standing behind her. The hotel soundproofing was decent, so Sang Zhijiu hadn’t heard a word of their conversation. Her expression shifted from wanting to give Fan Wu a surprise to one of shock. “…What are you doing? Zhan Yuerou? Why are you in Fan Wu’s room?”
After not seeing her for two days, seeing Sang Zhijiu standing there in the flesh made all the longing of the past two days find a place to land. Fan Wu realized at that moment just how much she missed the little one.
In this instant, she felt a sense of release. Exes, children, none of that mattered. The one standing before her was the Sang Zhijiu she wanted to hold in her heart.
How Fan Wu wanted to pull her into her arms and tell her: “Zhijiu, I don’t mind that child anymore. No matter what, I’ll face the future with you!”
Unfortunately, the scene-ruining Zhan Yuerou had not yet left. Fan Wu suppressed the urge to hug Sang Zhijiu, turned back to Zhan Yuerou, and finished her sentence: “Miss Zhan, please leave.”
Sang Zhijiu watched the scene, understandably confused. Zhan Yuerou, however, was frightened by Fan Wu’s coldness. Tears pooled in her eyes, then spilled over as she cried pitifully, ” Fan Wu, don’t be like this, okay? After all, we were together and even had that kind of relationship.”
Sang Zhijiu: “???”
Zhan Yuerou continued to cry, ” I know. In your eyes, I might just be a whimsical girl who wanted to climb high. But I want to say, since… since that day, I really. I can’t forget the way you spoke softly to me in bed, I can’t forget your embrace, I can’t forget your touch, your pheromones. I… I think I’ve really fallen in love with you.”
She looked at Fan Wu with tearful eyes. “Can’t you reallygive me a chance?”
Zhan Yuerou had a little plan in her heart. Sang Zhijiu was a person of standing in the industry, and through their recent contact, she was certain that while Sang Zhijiu looked like a spoiled young lady with a bad temper, she actually had a strong sense of justice. If she could reveal the situation to Sang Zhijiu, she might be able to help her.
Sure enough, before Fan Wu could speak, Sang Zhijiu questioned with shock, “What is she saying? Fan Wu, what is your relationship with Zhan Yuerou?”
Fan Wu’s eyes narrowed, her face like a storm about to break. She looked so serious it made one shudder. But she didn’t want Sang Zhijiu to see her like this. She reached out and pulled Sang Zhijiu directly into her arms, burying the younger woman’s head in her shoulder. Then, with a dark face, she looked at Zhan Yuerou.
“Get out.”
