Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 28
After Fan Wu snapped out of her shock, she felt a mix of amusement and exasperation.
On one hand, she suspected that her feelings for Sang Zhijiu were likely not a one-way street. Sang Zhijiu must have been so confused by her own emotions that she blurted out a joke like “breakup meal.”
On the other hand, Sang Zhijiu’s words served as a reminder that she had come tonight intending to make a clean break.
Fan Wu felt a twinge of anger. “Are you really that eager to get rid of me?”
Ever since they had agreed to eat out, Fan Wu had been so nervous she hadn’t slept all night, thinking about how to sincerely apologize and repair the relationship. To her surprise, the little one seemed determined to sever ties.
It was truly heartbreaking.
Sang Zhijiu pursed her lips and waited a moment before saying, “Yes… that’s right!
“The two of us never had much in common anyway. You pretended to be Senior W to deceive me, but you also helped me a lot. The two cancel each other out. After I treat you to dinner tonight, our debts are settled. From now on, you go your way and I’ll go mine. Let’s not bother each other ever again!”
She spoke with a touch of defiance.
Fan Wu laughed and tapped the table. “Since you put it that way…
“Then we’ll have to discuss exactly how this ‘breakup meal’ should be eaten.”
Sang Zhijiu had thought the subject was dropped, but hearing that term again made her feel like her seat was on fire.
“Wh-what ‘breakup meal’? I… I misspoke just now.
“It’s not a breakup meal; it’s a friendship-ending meal.”
Fan Wu smiled. “Isn’t it essentially the same thing? Either way, it’s about cutting ties and going separate ways.”
She leaned back against her chair, looking perfectly composed. “I’m quite difficult to deal with, you know. If you really want to ‘break up’ with me, do you think a single meal is enough to settle it?”
Sang Zhijiu’s eyes widened. “What do you want, then?”
She wrinkled her nose. “Fan Wu, I’m warning you, you’d better not try any dirty tricks.”
Fan Wu was no longer in a hurry. She picked up a napkin to wipe her hands. “You might not know me well enough; I never use ‘dirty tricks.'”
The idea of coaxing the little one back wasn’t a dirty trick—at most, it was a piece of reasonable planning.
Sang Zhijiu looked at her with half-suspicion and eventually let out a sigh. “Whatever… I’ve told you exactly how it is.
“Let’s eat first. I have to pay back the favor I owe you.”
As they talked, the dishes began to arrive one by one. Once permission was given, the waiter opened the door and brought in the delicacies. Sang Zhijiu didn’t dare focus her attention on Fan Wu, so she feigned interest in the waiter’s descriptions of the food.
Fan Wu didn’t say anything, simply resting her chin on her hand and watching her quietly.
That intense gaze nearly scorched Sang Zhijiu. She was restless, shifting her posture constantly, but she couldn’t escape Fan Wu’s eyes.
It was the waiter who broke the stalemate.
After finishing a long string of descriptions and seeing that neither of them was actually focused on the food, she couldn’t resist looking at Fan Wu. “Ex-excuse me, are you Fan Wu?”
Normally, it’s a major taboo for service staff to intrude on a guest’s privacy, but the atmosphere was so awkward—and the waiter’s personal curiosity so strong—that she spoke up anyway.
Fan Wu looked back and nodded. “Yes.”
The waiter was ecstatic. “I-I’m a fan! I’ve liked you for so long!!!”
This situation wasn’t new to Fan Wu; whenever she was recognized, fans would come to say hello. She was well-practiced, nodding with a smile. “Thank you for your support.”
Receiving such a response from her idol made the waiter feel like her night was made. She had thought this would just be a normal work shift; she never expected the guests to be Fan Wu and Sang Zhijiu.
The waiter clutched her heart. “Do you have a new movie coming out?”
Fan Wu nodded politely. “Yes. But filming isn’t finished yet. It probably won’t be released until next year.”
The waiter nodded vigorously. “We’re willing to wait! Your work never disappoints. We all love and look forward to it.”
Fan Wu nodded. “Thank you. I hope this time won’t disappoint you either.”
Hearing this, the waiter glanced meaningfully at Sang Zhijiu. “Is this movie a collaboration between the two of you?” She added, “Mhm… it doesn’t matter! No matter what, we believe in you.”
Sang Zhijiu froze. She suddenly realized she had been caught in the crossfire.
Once the waiter left, she gritted her teeth. “What did your fan mean by that? Does she… does she think I’m going to hold you back?”
Fan Wu couldn’t help but laugh.
It was no wonder the waiter felt that way. Given Fan Wu’s stature and achievements, before they actually collaborated, few could have imagined Sang Zhijiu “climbing the high branch” of working with her. In terms of seniority, accolades, and pure acting ability, Sang Zhijiu was quite a few steps behind.
Fan Wu’s fans were very proud of her track record, so when news of Sang Zhijiu’s involvement first broke, the internet had been quite stirred up.
But Fan Wu realized the little one hadn’t quite grasped this—or perhaps she simply refused to accept it.
Fan Wu acted innocent, spreading her hands. “You heard it too. I didn’t say it. I’m very protective of you.”
Sang Zhijiu started acting stubborn. “I don’t care! That was your fan, so it counts as your fault.”
She slapped the table. “Tell me, has my performance lately not been worthy of you?”
Fan Wu smiled at her. “It is worthy. Of course it is.
“We are the perfect match.”
The words were thick with ambiguity, and a faint blush crept onto Sang Zhijiu’s face. She looked away, muttering under her breath, “Smiling so seductively and always saying sweet things… such a flirt…”
Fan Wu seemed not to have heard clearly and leaned closer. “What did you say?”
The distance between them was suddenly very small. Sang Zhijiu quickly put her hand against Fan Wu’s shoulder. “Nothing… sit back. Get away from me.”
But by then, Fan Wu’s hand had already found its way to her waist.
She whispered into Sang Zhijiu’s ear, “Are you jealous?”
Sang Zhijiu stiffened. “Wh-what are you talking about?”
Fan Wu’s lips brushed lightly against the stray hairs by her ear. “Zhijiu is so beautiful today. Did you dress up specifically to see me?”
Sang Zhijiu lowered her head. She had indeed dressed up to see Fan Wu, but it wasn’t for that reason.
With that thought, she looked up and stared hard at Fan Wu, hoping her makeup would make her gaze lethal. But in Fan Wu’s eyes, the little one only looked more adorable.
Fan Wu couldn’t resist pinching her ear, suppressing a smile. “If it’s not jealousy, why complain about me being a flirt?”
Sang Zhijiu’s face turned bright red. It turned out Fan Wu had heard her mutterings after all.
At this moment, Sang Zhijiu was in a state of chaos. She couldn’t answer the question; it was as if she didn’t even understand herself why she minded so much when she saw Fan Wu smiling at the fan.
Their posture was now quite intimate, if one didn’t look closely, it would seem as if Sang Zhijiu were sitting directly in Fan Wu’s lap.
Sang Zhijiu shifted uncomfortably. “I-I’m not! You heard wrong!”
“Is that so?” Fan Wu enjoyed her shy expression. “Then let me ask a different question.”
She smiled. “I’m being so ‘seductive’ was our Zhijiu seduced by me?”
Sang Zhijiu felt a jolt of electricity shoot up from her spine all the way to her head. She was surrounded by Fan Wu’s scent; though she hadn’t touched a drop of wine, she already felt intoxicated.
