Pregnant with the Alpha Best Actress's Child - Chapter 19
Once the casting was finalized, a staff member from Fan Wu’s side contacted Sang Zhijiu the following day to send over the full version of the script.
Sang Zhijiu took the matter very seriously. From then on, she spent every day immersed in the company’s acting classes, dissecting every detail bit by bit with the help of her coach. Normally, her assistant Akang would drop her off and pick her up, but Lin Jiahe had a few free days and took over the task.
Watching Sang Zhijiu practically forget to eat and sleep, Lin Jiahe remarked, “You know what? Seeing you like this reminds me of the days back in school when we used to head to the library together before every final exam.”
Sang Zhijiu slumped directly into the car seat. “I wish it were just a final exam. At least then I’d know what would be on the test.”
Lin Jiahe felt a pang of sympathy seeing her like this. “Is it really that exhausting?”
“You don’t understand,” Sang Zhijiu replied. She forced herself to sit upright. “It’s not physical fatigue; it’s mental. Spending the whole day figuring out how to turn yourself into another person… my heart is tired.”
Lin Jiahe thought for a moment and suggested, “How about I ask the coach for two days off so you can get some rest?”
Sang Zhijiu shook her head vigorously. “No way! We fought so hard for this role. Being tired now means things will be easier once I’m on set.” She waved it off nonchalantly. “Besides, I’m fine. I’ll go back, sleep on it, and I’ll be full of energy again tomorrow!”
Lin Jiahe couldn’t help but laugh. “Alright then, keep at it.” She started the car. “But do try to balance work and rest.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know what I’m doing, don’t worry,” Sang Zhijiu replied perfunctorily. Despite her words, she showed no intention of slowing down.
Lin Jiahe noticed this and decided to take action. She booked a small gig for her, forcing her to travel to a neighboring city on Sunday for a minor event. The location wasn’t far—only a three-hour round trip—but since the event was in the morning, Sang Zhijiu would have the entire afternoon to relax.
Sang Zhijiu was reluctant at first, but realizing this would be her last public appearance before joining the film crew, she agreed. A crowd of fans showed up, holding signs they had prepared long ago. The organizers, aware of the fans’ enthusiasm, arranged a small fan meeting after the event. Sang Zhijiu diligently signed autographs for everyone.
“Jiujiu, I—I really like you!”
Sang Zhijiu looked up to see a cute Omega girl. She looked young, like she had just graduated, and carried a sweet, innocent charm. Before her secondary differentiation, Sang Zhijiu had always liked Omegas, and even though she was now one herself, she still had a natural affinity for them.
She greeted the girl warmly. “Thank you. Where do you live? Did you come here specifically for this?”
The girl nodded, looking nervous and nearly incoherent in front of her idol. “I—I live in Y City. I came here today just for you!”
Sang Zhijiu smiled. “Thank you. What’s your name?”
“Fan Yu! My name is Fan Yu!” the girl replied.
Sang Zhijiu nodded. There were so many people that day that she didn’t commit the name to memory. However, back at home, Fan Yu had already marked that day as the anniversary of their first conversation. She lay on her sofa, holding the fresh autograph, kicking her legs in pure joy.
When Fan Wu arrived home, she walked in on this scene of her sister grinning like an idiot.
“Did you go out today? Where did you go to be this happy?”
Fan Yu finally realized her sister was back. She sat up immediately and greeted her obediently. “Big Sister, you’re back?”
Fan Wu gave a faint “mm.”
Fan Yu cleared her throat, part explaining and part bragging, “I went to the neighboring city with a friend today! Jiujiu was at an event, and I got her autograph!”
Fan Wu knew about Sang Zhijiu’s schedule; the “Little One” had taken to sharing small bits of her life with the “Senior” over text. But she hadn’t expected Fan Yu to chase her there.
Observing her younger sister’s joy, she raised an eyebrow and said simply, “Mm, not bad.”
Fan Yu wasn’t just reporting her whereabouts. She puffed out her chest. “Big Sister, I’ve decided.”
Fan Wu took a bottle of water from the fridge and unscrewed the cap. “Hmm?”
“I’ve decided!” Fan Yu declared. “I’m going to pursue Sang Zhijiu!”
Fan Wu nearly spat out her water. After a few coughs, she looked at Fan Yu. “Sang Zhijiu is an Omega now, just like you. How are you going to pursue her?”
“Who says two Omegas can’t be together? Hmph, I’m going to do it anyway!” Fan Yu was resolute. “I know what you’re worried about. If it comes to that, I’ll just have my glands removed. Without pheromones, there won’t be any obstacles!”
Looking at her sister’s determined face, Fan Wu almost thought Sang Zhijiu had already agreed to it. Once she recovered, she smiled. “And you think Sang Zhijiu will fall for you?”
“Why wouldn’t she?!” Fan Yu hopped off the sofa and ran over to Fan Wu. “Big Sister, do you think I’m not pretty enough, or not charming enough? Well… even if I’m not quite worthy of Jiujiu yet, I’ll work hard to pursue her and let her see my sincerity!”
When she first heard Sang Zhijiu had differentiated into an Omega, she had considered giving up. But seeing her in person today had reignited her devotion. She had thought about it for a long time and decided to try her luck without regrets.
Fan Wu was stunned. Her whole life, the one person she had protected most was Fan Yu. If asked who the most charming person in the world was, her answer would always be her sister. In her eyes, Fan Yu was flawless. If such a wonderful sister were to pursue Sang Zhijiu, would Sang Zhijiu even have a reason to refuse?
Fan Wu started to panic. She said bluntly, “You can’t do that!”
“Why?” Fan Yu’s rebellious streak flared up.
“Cough.” Fan Wu’s mind raced for an excuse. “Just because you like Omegas doesn’t mean Sang Zhijiu can accept an Omega.”
“She said so in an interview before! She said she likes Omegas!” Fan Yu argued.
“When was that interview? Was it before her secondary differentiation?” Fan Wu countered.
Fan Yu froze, then pouted and nodded. “Jiujiu only differentiated recently. Could her orientation have changed that fast?”
“Yes,” Fan Wu said firmly. “Inside information.”
This left Fan Yu speechless for a few seconds before she decided to play stubborn. “Hmph, I don’t believe you! Unless she admits it herself or I see it with my own eyes. I’m still going to try to pursue her!”
With that, she grabbed her autograph and ran upstairs. Fan Wu was left standing there alone, sinking into deep, troubled thought.
