Poor Relationship - Chapter 9
Upon hearing this, Wen Shi pondered briefly.
“I think most of the BL audience are just young girls who only want to see what they wish to see. Why not just go along with their preferences?”
“What do you think, Teacher Xu?”
He deftly tossed the question back to Xu Yizhou.
“You seem quite knowledgeable about the BL circle?”
Xu Yizhou was genuinely impressed by the professionalism in Wen Shi’s remarks. For a newcomer to the industry to have such insight—Fanhua Studio must be over the moon.
Wen Shi obediently nodded.
“Well, after all, Fanhua Studio specializes in BL audio dramas, and I had to do my homework before talking with Teacher Xu.”
As they chatted, the dishes they ordered gradually arrived. Wen Shi didn’t even bat an eye at the spread on the table and even served Xu Yizhou some food. After the meal, they continued chatting for a while. From Wen Shi, Xu Yizhou learned things about the BL circle he hadn’t been familiar with before.
The conversation went quite well, and Xu Yizhou’s impression of Wen Shi improved significantly. Moreover, Wen Shi paid without hesitation, showing no sign of distress over the cost. As if it were all trivial. Just before leaving, Wen Shi extended his hand to Xu Yizhou once more.
“Well then, Teacher Xu, I look forward to working with you.”
“Mm, looking forward to it.”
Xu Yizhou reached out, their fingers lightly brushing without lingering. After leaving the restaurant, Xu Yizhou prepared to hail a taxi. But a black Porsche smoothly pulled up in front of him. The window rolled down, and Wen Shi, having removed his sunglasses, looked at Xu Yizhou.
“Teacher Xu, let me give you a ride.”
Hearing the voice, Xu Yizhou turned to Wen Shi, and for a moment, there was a slight awkwardness between them. Wen Shi rested one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the window frame.
“No need to be polite, Teacher Xu.”
“Alright.”
Xu Yizhou thought for a moment and agreed. He walked to the other side, opened the passenger door, and got in.
“Where do you live, Teacher Xu?”
Wen Shi rolled up the window and glanced at Xu Yizhou. His smile was harmless and innocent.
“Just drop me off at Xinghu Villa District.”
At this, Wen Shi raised an eyebrow.
“Oh? Teacher Xu lives in Xinghu?”
“Is something wrong?”
Xu Yizhou sensed something implied in Wen Shi’s words.
“Nothing, just didn’t expect Teacher Xu to be a hidden wealthy person.”
Anyone would know that property prices in Xinghu start high—not to mention buying, even renting for a year costs a significant amount.
“Uh…” Xu Yizhou didn’t reply. He couldn’t exactly say the house belonged to his brother and he was just staying there. As for Wen Shi, no matter how Xu Yizhou looked at him, Wen Shi seemed younger yet was already driving a Porsche. Who was the hidden wealthy one here?
“And you? A young master experiencing life?”
Wen Shi smiled, revealing his canine teeth.
“Because of passion.”
Unsurprisingly, these words struck a chord in Xu Yizhou’s heart. Back in the day, he had entered this line of work with the same passion. Though he often struggled to make ends meet, it brought him immense satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. Even if it was exhausting at times.
“Well, let me give you a heads-up—voice acting is a demanding job.”
Xu Yizhou rarely smiled in front of Wen Shi.
“I’ve heard as much.”
As they chatted, they soon arrived at the destination. Xu Yizhou unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.
“Goodbye, Teacher Xu.”
“Mhm, goodbye.”
Sunlight fell on Xu Yizhou’s white shirt, tracing the faint, fluid lines of his waist. Just by looking, Wen Shi’s eyes were already filled with greed.
“Teacher Xu. I’ve set my sights on you”
Xu Yizhou returned home and caught sight of a figure sitting in the living room.
“Brother, have you eaten yet?”
He bent down to slip off his shoes and tucked them into the shoe cabinet. Hearing no response from Wen Jiang, he walked over curiously. Wen Jiang had a laptop resting on his lap, his slender fingers tapping away on the black keyboard. It seemed he was working.
Pursing his lips, Xu Yizhou decided not to disturb him and quietly moved past, heading toward the stairs.
“Come here, sit.”
Wen Jiang suddenly spoke. Xu Yizhou stopped and looked at Wen Jiang, who was still typing. He wasn’t sure if Wen Jiang was calling him, but it seemed they were the only two in the house.
“Oh.”
Xu Yizhou felt the atmosphere was a bit off but couldn’t pinpoint why. Sitting down beside Wen Jiang, he stole a glance at him. His sixth sense told him Wen Jiang’s mood didn’t seem too good. So, Xu Yizhou moved cautiously.
“What’s wrong, brother?”
Seeing Wen Jiang fall silent again, he grew even more nervous. The only sound was the rapid clatter of the keyboard. After a while, those thin lips finally parted slightly.
“Who did you go out with?”
Wen Jiang’s gaze didn’t shift toward Xu Yizhou; the frames of his glasses still reflected the light from the computer screen.
“With a colleague. The one who added you on WeChat last time, Wen Shi.”
Although Xu Yizhou didn’t know why Wen Jiang suddenly asked this, he answered truthfully.
“Didn’t you say you didn’t like interacting with him?”
“It’s fine. But it’s work-related, so I couldn’t avoid it.”
To be honest, his impression of Wen Shi had changed quite a bit today. He didn’t dislike him as much as before.
“If it’s not dislike, then it’s like?”
Only then did Wen Jiang slightly turn his head to look at Xu Yizhou. For some reason, Xu Yizhou felt a chill rise from the soles of his feet. Wen Jiang’s expressionless face seemed to carry a hint of something else, his dark pupils unfathomable.
“N-no… that’s not it.” A sudden fear welled up in Xu Yizhou’s heart, making his words stumble.
“I don’t like him.”
“Then who do you like?”
“I like…” Xu Yizhou’s eyes darted around, feeling the current atmosphere needed a joke to lighten it. “I like you, brother!”
As he spoke, he reached out and wrapped his arms around Wen Jiang’s arm.
“Brother is so good, of course I like brother.”
But with his sudden movement, the laptop on Wen Jiang’s lap nearly toppled over. Luckily, Wen Jiang reacted quickly and steadied it. Wen Jiang raised his hand and closed the laptop.
“Stay away from Wen Shi. He’s no good.”
With Xu Yizhou’s antics, Wen Jiang’s tone had noticeably softened. Hearing Wen Jiang speak of Wen Shi like that, Xu Yizhou couldn’t help but freeze. “How do you know…”
Wen Shi and Wen Jiang clearly didn’t know each other, so why would Wen Jiang say such a thing?
Wen Jiang raised a hand to adjust his glasses.
“Wen Shi isn’t clean. He has a whole school of fish, both domestic and abroad. He plays with them until he’s bored, then tosses them aside.”
“He’s clearly set his sights on you.”
Xu Yizhou was even more shocked—not just by the Wen Shi Wen Jiang described, but also by the fact that Wen Jiang knew all this. The arms wrapped around Wen Jiang’s arm stiffened slightly as Xu Yizhou struggled to process it.
“Me?”
Wen Shi had set his sights on him? No matter how he thought about it, it just seemed impossible, especially since they were both men.
