Perfect Possession - Episode 56
Chairman Seo, upon hearing the words “second article,” hurriedly regained his senses and gripped his phone tightly.
“Listen, I’ll talk to Mina and smooth things over.”
Even if he tried to fix it later, the company name couldn’t be revealed as is. That would trigger an immediate investigation, and there would be more than one or two things to be caught for, not just industrial espionage. He had to get through this crisis somehow.
-That won’t do. Isn’t the vice president there? Have him speak directly. Please put it on speakerphone.
Chairman Seo shook his head at Mina, then nodded. It meant to do as Jaehoon instructed for now.
He put the phone down and connected to the speakerphone. Mina, enduring the humiliation, said briefly.
“Let’s stop. I’m a woman too, I don’t want to do this anymore.”
-I can’t trust just those words. So, you know that recording you speaking in a public place where others can hear is effective in civil cases, right? Our Seo-yeon just sent me a file with all the curses you hurled. Seems quite useful.
Jaehoon took a sip of coffee and read the message Seo-yeon sent again.
[It’s a gift. After being caught once, I thought I’d need this for important moments.]
What Seo-yeon sent was a recording of the threats made against him. Hearing it made him angry at Mina, but at the same time, he burst out laughing at Seo-yeon’s actions.
Jaehoon continued.
“Then I hope this never happens again. Chairman Seo, as promised, the article coming out soon will say ‘a certain company.'”
-Th, thank you. And this matter is something we don’t really know about either. I will definitely investigate.
“But Chairman Seo, the second article will be under your real name. I think J&D, who pretended to have a good relationship with our Do-young and then stabbed us in the back, needs to be taken down, even if family matters are one thing. I’ll hang up now. I’m sure you have a lot to prepare for.”
-Listen? Hey! Hey, Han Jaehoon!
Jaehoon, finding Chairman Seo’s shouting too loud, hung up the phone.
“Turn off all phones for the time being. Contact Reporter Im and tell him to release the second article as well.”
Jaehoon glanced at the incessantly ringing phone.
“Aren’t you going to answer it?”
Hyun-shik asked, checking the incoming call from the main family.
“I have to answer it. They’ll keep calling until I do. But before that.”
Jaehoon muttered, “I thought that door would open,” as the door burst open, and he stood up. An angry Chairman Han pushed aside Hyun-shik, who was blocking his path, and came over, slapping Jaehoon across the cheek without mercy.
His vision flashed, and his body staggered, but Jaehoon steadied himself by grabbing the desk and looked at Chairman Han. His hand rose high into the air again. But Chairman Han trembled, clenched his fist, and dropped his arm.
Chairman Han grabbed his son’s collar, who was glaring at him.
“How dare you release such an article?”
“What are you afraid of? That I have a son because I married my secretary? Or that you stirred up J&D when it could have been resolved quietly, and things didn’t go as planned?”
“What!”
As Chairman Han tightened his grip on his collar, Hyun-shik rushed in and grabbed Chairman Han’s wrist.
“Let go.”
“What is this punk? I’m the chairman of this group. How dare a mere vice president’s secretary grab me.”
“Let go.”
At first, he thought he belonged to Do-young Group. But at some point, Hyun-shik lost the desire to work if it wasn’t for Jaehoon. He didn’t belong to Do-young Group, but to Jaehoon, the vice president.
Therefore, Chairman Han, who was threatening his boss, was no different from Chairman Seo to Hyun-shik, a person he had no reason to obey.
“It’s okay.”
Jaehoon told Hyun-shik to let go and grabbed Chairman Han’s wrist, pulling it away himself.
“This bastard dare to twist his father’s arm?”
“Twist? I only pulled it away. Stop making unreasonable demands!”
Jaehoon wasn’t in the mood to speak calmly. He had expected it to some extent, but he hadn’t anticipated being hit. His cheek was burning, and he could taste blood in his mouth, as his body had staggered.
The first thing that came to his mind was the promise he had made to Seo-yeon to go home early today. With this face, even if he wanted to go home early, he couldn’t. Jaehoon was most annoyed by that even in the moment he was hit.
“You release this kind of article when you’re about to break up?”
“Only that’s visible to you? The industrial espionage article doesn’t matter to you at all, it seems.”
“I was also looking for an opportunity to use industrial espionage to pressure J&D and take whatever I could get. But you’re using it for your personal revenge?”
“I was the one who noticed the industrial espionage. Did you forget? You said there was no way and told me to drop it. But now you’re thinking of using it for a deal? And since J&D’s stock price has plummeted, it’s not a bad thing for our Do-young, is it? Ah, you and Mother also own quite a bit of J&D stock, don’t you? That’s it. That’s why you’re so angry you hit me like this.”
“Shut up! Release a correction article immediately. Say your marriage article is a false report.”
“I absolutely won’t. This marriage of mine may not affect Do-young’s stock price, but if I turn on you, Do-young won’t be safe either. You know very well that my image is Do-young’s image, right? Get out now. Today, even you, Father! If you touch me, I won’t let it go.”
Jaehoon shouted at Chairman Han, suppressing his anger, and spoke fiercely. Chairman Han’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. No matter how much he was his son, he acknowledged that he was the image representing Do-young.
Chairman Han knew very well that Jaehoon’s words were not just empty words that would end easily. He couldn’t read what Jaehoon, who was impossible to fathom, would do.
He slowly moved away from Jaehoon.
“Your mother won’t stand still.”
“Am I at an age to listen to my mother? Both of you stay quiet. If you threaten my family, Do-young will end up like J&D.”
“You’re crazy. My father cherished Do-young so much, and you’re saying such things. You’re the one who received all of grandfather’s love.”
“That’s right. Grandfather said the company comes after family. He said a company cannot exist without family. I will follow those words. I have a lot to do, so please go back. How can the chairman leave his seat because of such family matters?”
As Chairman Han glared at Jaehoon and went out, Hyun-shik quickly approached.
“I’ll prepare some ice.”
“Prepare a lot. Because today is an important day.”
Jaehoon chuckled and touched his chin to check his face.
Hyun-shik couldn’t help but respect him. Seeing him not lose his composure and even joke in this situation, Hyun-shik thought that this was the only person he should follow.
“I respect you.”
“What are you saying? I’m just a son who fought with his father. Go get some ice. Damn, I can’t even go home early if I have to wait for the swelling to go down.”
Jaehoon muttered lowly and touched the torn inside of his mouth. He frowned and made a painful expression. He didn’t want to let Seo-yeon know that he had fought with Chairman Han.
It was the day they exchanged wedding rings and confessed their love, and he didn’t want to upset her with such dirty matters.
“Damn, it hurts like hell to get hit when you’re all grown up.”
He put the ice pack Hyun-shik brought on his cheek and waited for the swelling to go down.
“Nose nose nose. This is nose.”
Seo-yeon was having a hard time putting Tae-yul to sleep, who wouldn’t let her read a book or go to sleep today.
“Not nose.”
Even when Seo-yeon pointed to his nose, Tae-yul got up and shook his head.
“This is nose, right.”
She pointed to her nose and then lightly touched Tae-yul’s cute nose. Then, shaking his head, Tae-yul patted his chest.
“Hmm, not nose.”
“What, you don’t want to do nose?”
“Tae-yul not nose.”
“So, that means ‘I’m not sleepy.'”
Seo-yeon said in a soft voice that permeated the dimmed lights.
“Not sweepy.”
“Wow, you said a whole sentence.”
At the cute voice with a lisp, Seo-yeon hugged Tae-yul tightly and put him on her lap.
“Then should I hold you like this and sing you a lullaby? I’ll sing you a lullaby.”
“No. Where Daddy? Tae-yul and ball.”
“Our Tae-yul is trying not to sleep so he can play ball when Daddy comes?”
“Uh-huh.”
Tae-yul opened his eyes wide and answered with a puff of air coming out of his nose. Seo-yeon barely held back her laughter. If she laughed now, he would take it as an invitation to play and really wouldn’t go to sleep.
“Tae-yul, it’s dark now, right? You sleep at night and play when the sun comes up. Should Mommy give you a piggyback ride? Let’s go to the window and see if Daddy’s coming.”
“Daddy? Why not come? Tae-yul piggyback.”
Seo-yeon interpreted the meaning of ‘Why not come?’ as ‘Why isn’t Daddy here yet?’
Tae-yul had a lot to say, but he still had difficulty making sentences, so he would say whatever came to mind. But strangely, she could understand the meaning from his intonation and actions.
Seo-yeon laughed silently and carried Tae-yul on her back to the window. It was past 8 o’clock, and she hadn’t heard from him yet. Jaehoon, who said he would come home early, was late, so Seo-yeon was also waiting.
She gently touched the ring finger of her left hand, which was supporting Tae-yul on her back, with her other hand. She didn’t usually wear rings because her fingers felt stuffy, but the wedding ring didn’t feel like that at all.
Seo-yeon smiled lovingly as she thought of the ring.
“If Tae-yul wants to sleep, do it.”
“No.”
She felt sorry for Tae-yul, who said he wouldn’t sleep, but it was past his bedtime, so Seo-yeon gently rocked her body and put her son to sleep. Tae-yul, whose eyes were full of sleep, quickly fell asleep, snoring, using his mother’s body temperature as a blanket.
A moment later, Mrs. Kim came and picked up the sleeping Tae-yul and laid him on the bed. Seo-yeon asked Mrs. Kim to take care of Tae-yul and returned to the bedroom.
She went straight to the dressing room and opened the closet. There were flowing nightgowns hanging there. Among them were some sexy outfits that weren’t Seo-yeon’s taste.
She took a deep breath and rummaged through the clothes to choose what to wear tonight.
