Perfect Possession - Episode 4
Seo-yeon listened to Jae-hoon’s breathing, staring intently at him. She could hear something snapping within him, too.
She thought she hadn’t taken her eyes off him for even a moment, but when her wrist was painfully grabbed, Seo-yeon was startled and let out a short scream.
“Ah!”
She was pulled into a hug so tight she felt her waist would break. Her body floated up with absurd ease, her feet kicking in the air. Seo-yeon stumbled backward, pushed by Jae-hoon, and only stopped when she hit the wall.
Jae-hoon pinned her against the wall, glaring down at her.
“What more are you willing to throw away if it’s even more?”
“…Why are you doing this?”
Seo-yeon turned her head away, trembling as Jae-hoon lowered his face toward her.
“Answer me. Does what you’re willing to throw away include this body of yours?”
“Haa… Vice President.”
“Don’t call me that! Now I’m the Vice President again? You came to find my child, and you’re calling me Vice President!”
“…Please don’t do this.”
Seong-hee had said that it was none other than Jae-hoon who had offered the money in exchange for breaking up. Even if Seo-yeon didn’t believe her completely, she couldn’t deny seeing the 1 billion won deposited into Seong-hee’s account.
So, Seo-yeon thought that the reason he was so angry was because she had hidden the fact that she was pregnant. If she had known before leaving, she would have definitely asked him to reconsider, just once.
But it wasn’t easy to appear before a man who had thrown a large sum of money at her and told her to break up, while pregnant. Besides, Seo-yeon’s health hadn’t been very good at the time, and she hadn’t been able to move much.
Unable to bear it any longer with all these thoughts, Seo-yeon looked straight at Jae-hoon, not avoiding his gaze. She realized how big of a mistake it was, but Seo-yeon couldn’t close her eyes or look away.
Even the look of intense anger in his eyes felt like a heartbreaking longing to Seo-yeon.
Dark eyes of unfathomable depth. How happy she had been every time those eyes had been clouded with desire and pleasure. Even in this situation, Seo-yeon loathed herself for remembering that. She finally turned her gaze away.
“Let me go.”
“Why are you avoiding my eyes? Stare at me like you did just now. I said, stare at me.”
“Please, don’t do this.”
“Here.”
“Haa!”
Seo-yeon couldn’t help but scream as Jae-hoon lifted her dress and touched her intimately. He touched her soft skin so easily, moving his fingers.
The agonizing feeling of dying was only in her mind; her body didn’t feel the same. Like stirring a calm lake with a twig, her body rippled and writhed. Seo-yeon, horrified by her body’s reaction, pushed him away and shouted.
“Let me go. I said, let me go!”
“The day you accepted my seed here was just one of those countless nights you cried out, wasn’t it? You held my thing and shared blood and flesh, and you didn’t contact me?”
“…I told you I didn’t know.”
Jae-hoon moved his fingers, which were digging in as if about to send her away, and stimulated her with his thumb. Seo-yeon gritted her teeth and glared at him, feeling the rapidly spreading pleasure.
But Jae-hoon breathed roughly and stirred her body, which was starting to get wet, violently. Seo-yeon, feeling like she was going crazy, pushed him away with all her might. But his strength was only as stimulating as a feather brushing against a rock.
“You didn’t know for ten months? You should have told me before giving birth. Before your crazy mother stole my son!”
“You’re the one who left me.”
“…What?”
Jae-hoon’s breathing stopped. Seo-yeon continued immediately.
“If one of us gets tired of the other, don’t hold on! That’s what you said. Did you forget? Still, I was going to contact you when I had the baby. Because it’s your child.”
Jae-hoon’s mind froze at Seo-yeon’s words that he was the one who had left. Who had left whom? Her voice, saying that money was enough, was still recorded on his phone.
He had listened to it hundreds of times, and it was clearly her voice, but she was saying that he had left first.
Jae-hoon’s cold eyes shook violently. If her words weren’t a lie… Thinking this far, he suddenly thought of his mother, Mi-ryung.
The only person who could have orchestrated this without a sound was her. Moreover, Seong-hee, who was obsessed with money, could move according to her wishes.
Seo-yeon suppressed a moan as Jae-hoon’s fingers left her, gasping for breath. The hand that had been stirring inside her was gone, but the sensation remained. She gritted her teeth and pushed away the man who was embracing her.
Jae-hoon, who had stepped back as if to move away, grabbed Seo-yeon’s arm again. But this time, he didn’t grab it painfully; he held it gently.
“Tell me… in detail.”
His voice was drained of strength, as if he was shocked. Seo-yeon found Jae-hoon’s change too strange. His eyes were confused, as if he was hearing the words for the first time.
Her mind became complicated, and she pulled away from his hand and said quietly.
“I want to sit down.”
Seo-yeon’s legs were shaking, and it was hard to stand. She didn’t want to collapse in front of Jae-hoon. She thought he would push her further, but Jae-hoon readily stepped back.
Seo-yeon went to the nearest sofa and sat down. She was thirsty, but the table with the water bottle was too far away, so she just stared at it silently.
After a long time, she felt Jae-hoon’s presence. He passed Seo-yeon and approached the table with the water bottle. Jae-hoon poured water and handed it to her.
“Drink.”
“Thank you.”
Seo-yeon quietly took the water cup he offered and drank the water. She could feel the cool water entering her dry body. But she didn’t drink all of it.
She only drank enough to moisten her dry mouth and put the cup down. She couldn’t even drink or eat anything because she felt sorry for the baby.
Jae-hoon’s gaze lingered on the almost untouched water cup.
“Why did you stop drinking?”
“…My mom showed me the account where you deposited a large sum of money.”
Seo-yeon didn’t answer Jae-hoon’s question and brought up the words he wanted to hear.
“She said it was a condition for breaking up.”
She looked up at him. ‘Why did you do that?’ Seo-yeon’s gaze asked Jae-hoon.
“I never gave your mother a large sum of money.”
“What…?”
This time, Seo-yeon was shocked.
“Did you think I was such a terrible person that I would use money to tell you to break up?”
He was right. Jae-hoon wasn’t so terrible that he would buy people’s hearts with money or tell them to break up. But Seo-yeon wasn’t in a normal state at the time to recognize that.
The pain of heartbreak returned entirely as self-pity. All she could do was suffer.
“She shoved this in my face.”
Jae-hoon took out his phone and placed it on the table, sitting down in front of her.
“Even after listening to it hundreds of times, it was your voice.”
He played the recording that Mi-ryung had sent, saying it was from Seo-yeon.
‘Money? Good, is that enough? My mom likes money, and so do I. If I take that and leave, that’s it, right?’
At first, Seo-yeon didn’t recognize the voice he played as her own. She had no memory of saying those words at all. Then, she felt dazed, as if she had been hit on the head.
One day, Seong-hee came home after going out and, somehow knowing that she was meeting Jae-hoon, urged her to break up immediately.
She said, why are you doing something so stupid when you know you’re going to be abandoned? But she was upset about being abandoned like this, so she told Seo-yeon to get money out of him and tormented her.
After that, whenever she saw her face, she would ask if she had asked for money yet, and she would constantly nag her, saying that she would be giving only her body and being abandoned anyway, so why was she being so foolish.
Unable to bear it, Seo-yeon had a fight with Seong-hee, saying things she didn’t mean. It seemed like this content was among the words she had carelessly said at that time.
“This is not my true feelings.”
“Not your true feelings? After hearing this, you still have something to say? How much am I supposed to believe you?”
Seo-yeon felt a chill run down her spine and wanted to close her eyes. Seong-hee was someone who could do even worse than this. She had been pushing Seo-yeon so hard to record her when the necessary words came out.
She looked at Jae-hoon with eyes that had become transparently sunken due to the shock.
“You don’t have to believe me. Because it’s true that I said these words. But this is…”
“Are you going to make excuses?”
“It’s not an excuse, it’s the truth. These words are what I said when I was angry because my mom tormented me for days, saying that I should get money and end it rather than be abandoned by you. She was trying to record this by tormenting me like that.”
“Am I supposed to believe those words now?”
“I can’t help it if you don’t believe me. But I didn’t say I didn’t do something I did. I’m saying that I said those words, but they weren’t my true feelings.”
Jae-hoon wanted to believe Seo-yeon’s words. He didn’t mind if he was the only one being foolish. He didn’t care if he became a fool who had been manipulated by Mi-ryung and Seong-hee. He desperately hoped that it wasn’t her true feelings, as she said.
“Can I ask you just one thing?”
“What more is there to hide now, coming this far?”
“Then who gave that money? Could it be Madam?”
Seo-yeon also thought that Mi-ryung could do that and stared intently at him. Jae-hoon didn’t move and met her gaze.
After a while, he let out a distorted laugh as if he was angry and roughly swept back his hair.
“Are you saying that I was so caught up in feeling betrayed that I lost my son? Does that make sense?”
Jae-hoon couldn’t hold back and shouted, jumping to his feet. Everything was a misunderstanding. Seo-yeon had never abandoned him for money.
The moment he realized that, the terrible iron bar that had been stuck in the center of his heart was pulled out. But soon, something worse, regret and pain, was stuck in its place.
