After My Flash Marriage with the Movie Queen - Chapter 79
At long last, An He finally spotted the legendary elementary school students in this godforsaken municipal park—oh no, excuse her—in this godforsaken eco park. To say she was overjoyed would be an understatement.
Sitting in the back, Boss Qi just stared blankly: “…”
Oh.
With excitement and confidence brimming in her chest, An He strode toward the four elementary school girls. The cameras and the production crew quickly followed her lead. The four little girls had been walking along, chatting and laughing—clearly just out on a weekend stroll.
Then, out of nowhere, a group of seven or eight adults appeared in front of them. The one in the lead was a beautiful lady with slightly wavy long hair, but behind her came a group of burly men lugging cameras, microphones, and equipment. The girls were still at that tender age where such a sight was downright terrifying. They froze on the spot.
An He approached with what she believed to be her warmest, most dazzling smile—but in the eyes of these half-grown kids, it just looked overly eager and kind of creepy.
“Hello, little sisters!” An He greeted sweetly.
The four girls: “…”
This auntie seems kind of pervy.
Still smiling, An He introduced herself: “I’m An He, a famous actress. We’re filming a variety show right now. If it’s possible, could you help us with—”
Before she could even finish her sentence, the ponytailed girl in front stepped forward warily and said, “Sorry, Auntie, we don’t know you.”
An He’s smile froze.
Auntie???
AUNTIE?!
Do I really look that old?!
“Call me Jiejie (big sister),” An He corrected quickly.
The girls exchanged looks, then turned back to her without saying a word. Clearly, none of them planned to change their wording.
An He: “…”
I hate this. I hate everything.
Just then, Boss Qi walked over and stood beside her. That did not help. The moment she appeared, the girls’ alertness shot through the roof.
Qi was tall, sharp-featured, and carried an aura that even adult men found intimidating—let alone four little girls. When her cold, expressionless face entered their field of view, the children panicked, turned around, and bolted.
Boss Qi: “…”
An He: “…”
What just happened?
Watching the tiny figures run off, An He could feel her blood pressure rising. She cast a sideways glance at Boss Qi, who stood there like a statue. She didn’t even need to think—obviously, it was this woman’s fault! Those poor little girls had been scared off by her ice-cold presence!
An He snapped, “Why are you still standing there? Go after them and bring them back!”
Boss Qi turned her head slowly, her face unreadable. After so many years of marriage, An He knew that look well enough—it was the look that said, “Absolutely not.”
Boss Qi was a rigid, stoic woman. To ask her to go chase down a bunch of elementary school students on camera, in front of all the staff, yeah, no. Not happening.
But desperate times called for desperate measures.
An He was beyond caring about dignity or appearances now. She’d been wandering this park for two, nearly three hours. Her legs were killing her. Finally finding a few kids, only to let them slip away again? Who knew when they’d run into the next batch!
“Why are you still staring at me? Go get them!” she urged.
Boss Qi’s lips moved slightly as she replied flatly, “No.”
An He: “…”
This damn heiress and her arrogant pride!
An He was truly panicking now. She couldn’t afford to lose her chance to earn a single “admiration point” from the kids. Under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t have cared—but this was a variety show. And her longtime frenemy Zhao Xunyin was also one of the guests.
Earlier, Zhao Xunyin had been mercilessly roasted by her, and An He was sure the woman had jotted every insult down in her petty little grudge notebook.
If Zhao Xunyin managed to win the kids’ admiration and she didn’t get even one point, how was she supposed to show her face again?
Just imagining it made her stomach twist.
She couldn’t lose—not to Zhao Xunyin!
The problem was, she was wearing high heels, which made chasing after children completely unrealistic. Boss Qi, on the other hand, had been a marathon runner back in school—she was the perfect person for the job. If only she would agree to do it.
An He gritted her teeth and blurted, “If you bring them back, whatever you want tonight—it’s yours!”
Boss Qi’s eyes flicked toward her. “You mean it?”
An He swallowed her pride. “I mean it!”
The next second, Boss Qi took off, her long legs carrying her swiftly down the path in pursuit of the fleeing kids.
The production team: “…”
We’re not saying you two are flirting, but the evidence is very suspicious.
Thanks to Boss Qi’s heroic display of devotion, about ten minutes later, An He arrived with the crew at the spot where the four little girls had been intercepted.
The kids, the oldest maybe ten and the youngest only eight, stood trembling in a tight huddle, staring up at the 1.84-meter-tall, cold-faced woman who had just blocked their way. They looked seconds away from bursting into tears.
When An He caught up and saw the scene, she was momentarily speechless. Her wife stood there silently, and the kids stared back like frightened kittens.
Why does this look so ominous?
Forget it—mission first.
An He quickly slipped on her gentlest smile, her tone light and soothing as she approached the girls. She explained the situation carefully, reassuring them until they finally stopped trembling. Bit by bit, they relaxed and agreed to cooperate.
“Admire you?” one of the girls repeated, looking doubtful. The four exchanged glances, then turned to An He with wide, sincere eyes.
“But Auntie, why should we admire you?”
An He: “…”
Can’t we just pretend for the camera, please?
One of the girls tilted her head, her voice milky and sweet. “Is it because you’re older than us?”
An He’s smile froze again. “…”
“Shut up!”
“I’m an actress, you know? The kind of person you see in TV dramas,” An He said, forcing a patience she never knew she had. Even though these little brats had just called her “auntie,” she still kept her temper and tried her best to finish the task at hand.
But the group of elementary schoolers didn’t seem impressed at all.
“But Auntie, we’ve never seen you on TV before.”
An He: “…”
Enough.
Straightening her back, she looked down at the kids expressionlessly.
“Can’t you at least pretend to admire me? Just act like you do, okay?”
The kids all shook their heads in unison.
“Our teacher said we’re not allowed to lie.”
An He: “…”
She gave up.
Patting her wife’s shoulder, she tilted her head up and said, “You handle it.”
Boss Qi, suddenly thrown into the spotlight: “…”
Seeing her wife’s blank face, An He sighed and whispered like a weary teacher, “Can you not look like a corpse for once? You’re dealing with children. Try smiling, will you? Don’t scare them off.”
Boss Qi said nothing.
Poor Boss Qi—brilliant in business, hopeless everywhere else.
Standing there, all 1.84 meters of her towering over the park’s walking path, she faced a few wide-eyed kids who stared up at her with a mix of curiosity and wariness. The whole scene looked absurd.
Boss Qi: “…”
An He, completely oblivious to her wife’s inner turmoil, jabbed her lightly in the waist with an elbow. “Go!”
Boss Qi: “…”
She looked at the children. After a long pause, she managed to squeeze out a few stiff words through gritted teeth:
“My name is Qi Yu.”
Children: “?”
Who’s Qi Yu?
Boss Qi: “…”
Great. She had no idea what to say next.
An He almost collapsed on the spot, pressing a hand to her forehead. That line hit her like a punch—how could she not flash back to the very first time they met? Back then, Qi Yu had introduced herself in that same cold, wooden tone:
“My name is Qi Yu.”
Ten years later, and she was still the same! It was enough to make An He both furious and heartbroken.
Turning her back to the kids, she cupped a hand over her mouth and hissed under her breath, “Can you please not talk like a broken robot? If you want them to admire you, use your strengths! What’s your biggest advantage? Tell them!
Make them adore you!”
Biggest advantage?
Boss Qi thought for a moment. Then her eyes lit up with sudden clarity.
“I’m rich.”
An He: “???”
The production crew: “???”
The kids: “???”
What was that supposed to mean? Who said we were broke?
That single sentence hit everyone like a shockwave. For a few seconds, the entire set was frozen. Then, finally, an eight-year-old girl, seeing how stiff and awkward Qi Yu looked, assumed the poor “auntie” must be in some kind of trouble.
The kind-hearted little girl stepped forward carefully, reached into the pocket of her floral dress, and pulled out a neatly folded five-yuan bill. She held it out with both hands.
“Auntie, did you forget to bring money?”
Qi Yu’s face stiffened even more. “…”
The production crew nearly fell over laughing.
Hahahahahahahahaha—who could’ve imagined the mighty Boss Qi would ever end up like this!
The little girl was just too adorable, her voice soft and sweet. Even Qi Yu, who was usually all cold lines and hard edges, couldn’t help relaxing a little. Her expression softened as she said,
“Thank you. I did bring money.”
“Then, Auntie, are you okay?” the girl asked, concern filling her big eyes.
Qi Yu stared back at her—big eyes meeting small eyes—and thought, this challenge from the show was simply too cruel.
“I’m fine.”
From birth, Qi Yu had never been the type to quit halfway. The Qi family simply didn’t believe in giving up.
Neither did she.
But standing before these innocent, unfiltered children, she truly had no idea what to say or do to earn their admiration.
She was too tall, too imposing, too cold. The scene of her standing stiffly in front of a few elementary schoolers was ridiculous. And as a businesswoman, Qi Yu knew when to cut her losses.
So, for the first time in her life, Boss Qi chose to surrender.
Turning slightly to the side, she said woodenly, “Thank you all. Goodbye.”
Children: “???”
An He: “???”
What on earth just happened?
