- Chapter 65 - When Reason Begins to Crumble
Zhao Xunyin’s words brushed against Shi Nanbei’s ear and drilled straight into her mind. The amount of information packed within was so overwhelming that she froze for a moment—try as she might, she simply couldn’t figure out how an adult could “play a fox” without any special effects.
A fox?
A real fox?
No matter how she turned it over in her mind, she couldn’t make sense of it. Finally, she asked Zhao Xunyin directly. The latter gave a wicked smile and leaned in to whisper something in her ear—by the time Shi Nanbei understood, her face had turned crimson, looking every bit the picture of a flustered innocent.
Perhaps it’s true what they say—people pick up strange little quirks in love as they grow older. Even an award-winning actress like Zhao Xunyin was no exception. She’d never realized how much she enjoyed teasing the younger woman until now. The more Shi Nanbei’s cheeks burned, the deeper Zhao Xunyin’s amusement grew.
Shi Nanbei, of course, was no match for a seasoned veteran of love. After hearing that whispered sentence, her entire body went stiff—her face the color of a cooked shrimp, unable to string together a single coherent word.
The more Zhao Xunyin looked at her bashful little wife, the more her heart melted. The atmosphere between them turned heady, and Shi Nanbei didn’t even have time to question why Zhao’s tastes were so unconventional—whether it was enchantresses or fox spirits, she had no idea.
The “experienced driver” Zhao Xunyin couldn’t hold herself back. She pulled her young wife upstairs, straight into the bedroom. They began to wash up—but before they even got halfway through, things spiraled out of control.
At thirty-four, Zhao Xunyin was in her prime—wolfish thirties, tigerish forties—and with such a sweet and irresistible wife in her arms, self-restraint was no longer an option.
Still in the bathtub, Zhao Xunyin began a very hands-on “study” of the art of human intimacy, all while giving her young wife a rather detailed “lesson” on how to move beautifully and pleasurably.
The steam-filled bathroom left Shi Nanbei flushed and dazed. Everything Zhao said, she obeyed, her docility only feeding Zhao’s delight.
Before long, Shi Nanbei couldn’t take it anymore, eyes misting as she pleaded for mercy. But Zhao’s enthusiasm was only just beginning—how could she possibly stop there?
When they finally moved from the bathroom back to the bedroom, Zhao Xunyin—ever true to her word—decided to demonstrate exactly what she meant earlier. Before Shi Nanbei’s stunned eyes, she fastened a fox tail onto herself.
And that was when Shi Nanbei’s mind went completely blank.
So that’s where the tail goes.
So that’s what Zhao meant by “playing the fox.”
Her reason shattered entirely.
What followed that night is best left undescribed.
All that can be said is that for the naive twenty-one-year-old Shi Nanbei, it was a very thorough “adult education.”
That night, she learned firsthand that the tail Zhao Xunyin spoke of was indeed a tail—and that it was worn there. Soft and fluffy, brushing lightly against her belly as they moved, it was almost unbearably stimulating.
She finally understood why the scholars in old tales were always enamored with enchantresses—because when Zhao Xunyin became one before her eyes, Shi Nanbei realized:
This wasn’t a demoness. This was a living treasure of the mortal world.
Even she—a soft, delicate woman—couldn’t resist her charms, let alone any man.
They stayed up far too late that night and only woke up around noon. With barely four hours before their flight, Zhao Xunyin—always organized—had already packed everything. Her assistant arrived just as Shi Nanbei stumbled out of bed. After washing up and eating, they set off for the airport.
This trip was meant to be a honeymoon, but considering Zhao’s fame and the possibility of unforeseen issues abroad, she decided to bring her assistant along—just in case.
Not that the assistant was thrilled. Having witnessed how clingy the newlyweds were, she dreaded traveling with them. Being around them meant endless doses of public affection.
Pushing their luggage trolley, the poor assistant trudged behind the lovey-dovey couple, feeling utterly wronged and miserable.
Had society really advanced to the point of luring dogs in just to feed them dog food? What crime had she committed to deserve this? Was it her fault she was single?
Ah, how she longed for the simple, genuine love of a rich, affectionate woman, she thought wistfully, tears falling in her heart.
The flight from Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur took just over two hours. From there, they had to transfer to Tawau in Sabah before heading to Semporna—another two-hour journey. By the time they arrived, after a sleepless night, Shi Nanbei was completely worn out.
And yet, even exhausted, she kept clinging to Zhao Xunyin on the way—nestling her head against Zhao’s shoulder and murmuring, “Beibei’s waist is so sore today.”
Zhao’s heart softened instantly. She treated her wife like the most precious treasure, never letting go of her hand—if she could’ve, she’d have shrunk Shi Nanbei down and carried her in her pocket.
The assistant behind them could only stare blankly: “…”
I Hate Being Single!
Thanks to Zhao Xunyin’s indulgence, Shi Nanbei’s life had been smooth and comfortable lately—so much so that her eyes never strayed from her wife. The more she looked, the more she felt that Zhao Xunyin was irresistibly charming: mature, intelligent, and coolly elegant.
But the moment she got off the plane, transferred to a boat, and finally arrived at the Kapalai Resort, her whole demeanor changed—instantly coming alive.
She turned her back on Zhao Xunyin without hesitation and started having the time of her life on her own.
A stretch of sapphire-blue sea, an endless sky, sunlight blazing over the waves—ah, wait, there wasn’t even any land here, was there?
The crystal-clear water sparkled under the sun, and everything about the place screamed paradise. The moment she set foot at the resort, Shi Nanbei practically resurrected on the spot.
Before coming, she’d worried that all the glowing online reviews about Semporna might have been exaggerated. But after seeing it for herself, she finally understood why people called it the border between dream and reality.
It was just too beautiful!
From the moment she arrived, Shi Nanbei became like a fish back in water—wild and free. Before Zhao Xunyin could even stop her, the girl had already changed into her swimsuit and dashed into the sea to snorkel.
Though Zhao Xunyin lived in Shanghai, she was a northern native and had never learned to swim. She’d assumed that Shi Nanbei—also from an inland region—wouldn’t be much better. To her surprise, the younger woman was an exceptionally strong swimmer, diving straight into the water without so much as a float or fins.
It was the first time Zhao Xunyin had ever seen her swim. The girl moved with natural grace in the water, holding her breath for what felt like ages without surfacing. For someone with an instinctive fear of the ocean, Zhao Xunyin went from calm to anxious in an instant. She began shouting Shi Nanbei’s name from the shore, her elegant composure completely forgotten.
But no matter how many times she called, the girl didn’t come up. Zhao Xunyin grew so frantic that she nearly jumped in after her.
When Shi Nanbei finally broke through the surface, she had the audacity to flash Zhao Xunyin a bright grin.
“Hey, why don’t you come down and play? There are so many fish down here!”
“No.” Zhao Xunyin refused flatly, her tone as icy as the look in her eyes. “Get back up here.”
“I don’t wanna.”
Floating lazily on her back, Shi Nanbei drifted across the surface in her bikini, her youthful figure long and lean. Against the backdrop of the azure sea, her legs looked impossibly slender. Zhao Xunyin couldn’t help but feel her heart skip a beat.
“Get up here,” she said again, standing on the shore like an unsmiling goddess. “You haven’t put on sunscreen.”
Before the trip, the staff from Dora Three Dream Tours, who’d handled their custom package, had specifically warned them that Malaysia’s tropical sun was merciless and the UV rays extremely strong—they’d need SPF 50 or higher.
Zhao Xunyin had taken the advice very seriously. As a public figure, appearance was everything, especially for a female celebrity. Fair skin was practically part of her job description. The last thing she wanted was to come home three shades darker after a vacation—unlike the young ones, her skin wouldn’t bounce back in just a few days.
Shi Nanbei, however, was riding high on youth and vitality. She completely ignored the Malaysian sun, refusing to come ashore no matter what. Worse, she kept calling out for Zhao Xunyin to join her in the water.
But she hadn’t expected that this seemingly flawless, capable woman would—of all things—not know how to swim. So, in her mischievous way, Shi Nanbei called out teasingly,
“I heard it feels really nice to do certain things in the water,” she said with a playful wink. “Don’t you want to try?”
For a split second, Zhao Xunyin’s heart wavered. But one glance at the deep, endless sea quickly doused that spark of temptation.
“No.”
Shi Nanbei: “…”
Just how afraid of water was this woman?
In the end, it was Shi Nanbei who gave in. After all, in a marriage or a relationship, you couldn’t always expect the older one to accommodate the younger. Love required mutual compromise. So after a while, she swam back to shore and chatted idly with Zhao Xunyin.
They sat together by the water’s edge, gazing out at the horizon. Kapalai, built on a shallow sandbar in the middle of the sea, was small and serene. It wasn’t peak season, so there were few tourists around—giving them the rare freedom to relax openly, without disguises or distance.
Both women felt completely at ease.
Watching the youthful profile beside her, clean and radiant with a hint of dampness, Zhao Xunyin thought to herself:
This kind of life really is wonderful.
