Pats Little Shrike's Tail - Chapter 94
Chapter 94
Arriving home at 3 AM, Shan Ling was so tired her eyes could barely stay open, but because of the pain in her butt, she couldn’t fall asleep properly.
Shen Qingyi made Shan Ling lie prone on the bed, carefully trying to keep her from turning over. The two nestled together and barely managed to sleep until morning.
On the first day of her holiday, Shan Ling’s vacation started in bed.
“You can’t cook like this,” Shen Qingyi slowly retracted her gaze from Shan Ling’s clean little legs and fair little feet, then looked down and asked: “How about I make lunch today?”
Shan Ling lay with her legs slightly raised. She held a cushion and didn’t dare to move, as any stretch or twist of her waist caused pain.
The doctor said she didn’t injure her tailbone. Did she really not injure it?
Shan Ling wanted to reach out and touch her tailbone, but Shen Qingyi sharply slapped her hand away.
“Don’t touch it,” Shen Qingyi said: “The doctor just applied medication last night. I’ll help you reapply it around noon. Don’t move it until then.”
Shan Ling pulled a long face, hugging the cushion and asking: “Did I really not injure any bones? I feel like my tail is about to break off.”
“That’s your tailbone. You don’t have a tail,” Shen Qingyi looked at her amusedly, then pulled a small blanket over Shan Ling’s lower back and told her: “Play with your phone while lying down for a bit. If you’re sleepy, go back to sleep. I’ll go figure out how to cook.”
Go figure out how to cook.
That phrase didn’t sound very promising. Shan Ling watched Shen Qingyi leave, feeling extremely worried.
But no matter how worried she was, there was nothing she could do. Shan Ling was currently lying immobilized like a sick chicken, feeling utterly miserable.
Sighing softly, Shan Ling fumbled under the pillow for her small phone and started looking for someone to chat with.
Xu Wentao was currently working at An Xin’s shop. The closer it got to the end of the year, the busier she became. She replied to Shan Ling’s messages about once every half hour, and she didn’t even have time to type, usually sending voice messages directly. Seeing how busy she was, Shan Ling felt bad about bothering her constantly.
Nuonuo had already gone home. Her social media was filled with photos of cats and dogs at home, indicating she was having a lot of fun, so Shan Ling was reluctant to bother her either.
Holding her phone, Shan Ling suddenly felt that now that she was on holiday, there weren’t many people who could hang out with her. The city was so big, yet she couldn’t find anyone to play with.
Shen Qingyi, meanwhile, was researching how to cook.
Honestly, in the years she had lived away from home, she had never worried about cooking.
Because she lived entirely on takeout.
But Shan Ling was badly injured now. She couldn’t possibly let her start her vacation by eating takeout, could she?
Moreover, when Shan Ling was healthy, she cooked plenty of delicious meals for Shen Qingyi. She cooked everything edible, except for anything with wings that could fly. Shan Ling absolutely refused to eat or cook those, and wouldn’t even look at them.
Shen Qingyi looked at the contents of the refrigerator, momentarily at a loss.
There were actually quite a lot of things in the fridge. Scallions, ginger, and garlic were all stocked. Shen Qingyi randomly picked a potato, weighed it in her hand, and figured stir-frying potato slices with green peppers, along with scrambled eggs and tomatoes, should be enough for lunch today.
She washed the potato and began peeling it. Everything went smoothly. Shen Qingyi’s knife skills weren’t bad either; the potato slices she cut were fine and neat. After putting them in the pan, she added seasoning bit by bit according to the recipe. But when the dish was ready, Shen Qingyi used chopsticks to pick up a strand and tasted it.
Hmm?
Shen Qingyi stood silently in front of the stove for a long moment, then picked up another strand, unconvinced.
It’s so awful…
Shan Ling was half-asleep on the bed again, but this time she wasn’t sleeping soundly. She kept smelling a strange odor, an indescribably odd smell, so much so that when she woke up and actually smelled it, she was still drowsy and unsure if she was dreaming or awake.
The area below her waist still hurt intensely. The doctor had sprayed medicine and applied a large plaster yesterday, which was warm and very comfortable, but the effect of the medicine must be wearing off now, and the pain was returning.
Shan Ling struggled to get out of bed. She stood up with effort and walked out the door in a position that caused the least pain.
“Yiyi?”
Shan Ling originally wanted to use the bathroom, but the strange smell led her to the kitchen. Seeing Shen Qingyi slicing potatoes, she asked in confusion: “What are you doing?”
Shen Qingyi turned to look at her, a little embarrassed. She used her foot to push the trash can behind her and smiled: “Why did you get out of bed? I haven’t finished cooking yet.”
Shan Ling sniffed with her little nose in the kitchen: “What is that smell?”
“It’s the food I made,” Shen Qingyi said helplessly: “I stir-fried two dishes, but they were so awful, I dumped them all.”
“You dumped them all?”
As a little money-saver, Shan Ling felt heartbroken at the waste of food. But realizing that Shen Qingyi simply couldn’t cook, she glanced at the potato slices she was cutting and said: “Let me do it.”
“Don’t push yourself,” Shen Qingyi frowned slightly, stopping Shan Ling, and supporting her with a hand: “You go rest. If worse comes to worst, I’ll order takeout. It should arrive just in time for us to eat.”
Shan Ling was about to say she was fine but winced in pain, her face instantly turning pale.
“Ugh…” Shan Ling’s eyes immediately reddened, and she said pitifully: “My butt hurts…”
Shen Qingyi wanted to laugh but dared not. She put down what she was holding and helped her to the sofa. Shan Ling wisely lay down on her stomach and only felt comfortable after hugging a cushion.
“It’s about time,” Shen Qingyi checked the time on her phone and told Shan Ling: “I’ll order two takeout meals first, and then I’ll help you change the dressing.”
“Mmm,” Shan Ling said with red eyes: “No poultry. I don’t want chicken today either.”
She’s this injured and still picky about food?
Shen Qingyi smiled helplessly. Quickly before Shan Ling could notice her secretly smiling, she said: “Okay, I’ll decide what to order myself.”
After ordering the takeout, Shen Qingyi felt completely relieved, thinking about the rejected ingredients in the trash can. She let out a sigh of relief.
She took the medicine prescribed by the hospital from the shoe cabinet by the door. Since the doctor had demonstrated how to apply the medicine to Shan Ling last night, she would have to apply it herself today.
Shen Qingyi glanced at Shan Ling lying on the sofa and told her: “Lift your skirt.”
After saying this, she herself was slightly taken aback. She then watched as Shan Ling turned her back to her, slightly arched her waist, and lifted her skirt up to her waist.
Shen Qingyi had been in a rush to leave last night, so she had only put on Shan Ling’s underwear and a nightgown, then wrapped a down jacket around her before leaving. Now, the heating in the house made everything warm and cozy. Shan Ling wasn’t cold in just a skirt. Her orange boxer briefs looked quite… perky.
Thump—
Shen Qingyi felt her heart beating so loudly. She finally managed to tear her eyes away, but then found she couldn’t tear open the plaster packaging.
Her mind was filled with the image of the orange boxer briefs. Shen Qingyi’s mind was a mess, which was rare for her. But she quickly regained control, took a few deep breaths, tore open the plaster, and turned to look at Shan Ling lying on the sofa, saying: “I’m peeling off the plaster the doctor put on you yesterday. It might hurt a little.”
Shan Ling said “Mmm,” hugging the cushion and burying her head into it, weakly saying: “Be gentle.”
Be gentle.
Shen Qingyi took a breath. She felt she could control herself.
Carefully peeling off the old plaster, Shen Qingyi saw that Shan Ling’s small bottom was fair, as white as the rest of her, milky white. This led to Shen Qingyi’s mind being filled with the thought: So white.
Because the location of the injury was awkward, Shen Qingyi was extremely cautious when applying the new plaster. She only pulled down Shan Ling’s boxer briefs slightly, then quickly and steadily applied the plaster in her hand.
When she pulled Shan Ling’s skirt back down, Shen Qingyi secretly breathed a sigh of relief in her heart.
Applying one plaster was already so difficult, and she had to do this for half a month.
And this location was not something one person could manage on their own. Shan Ling definitely couldn’t reach it herself. Shen Qingyi prepared herself for a long battle ahead.
But Shan Ling’s waist dimples are quite attractive…
“It’s on,” Shen Qingyi tidied up the supplies and told Shan Ling: “Don’t move around. Stay lying down. I’ll bring your meal over later.”
As she stood up, she looked at Shan Ling’s innocent and pitiful expression, which made Shen Qingyi feel uneasy.
“Can I watch TV?” Shan Ling asked, hugging the cushion: “My phone is boring, and no one is chatting with me. I don’t know what else to do in bed besides sleeping.”
“Fine, I’ll turn on the TV for you,” Shen Qingyi not only turned on the TV but also found a TV series for Shan Ling to watch.
Shan Ling then asked: “Did you change the bird feed I put on the balcony?”
Shen Qingyi said: “I’ll go change it now. You stay put.”
She cleaned the empty bird dish. Perhaps because there was no new food this morning, Shen Qingyi saw many birds standing in the exposed area beside the balcony. They were all looking at Shen Qingyi with eyes full of anticipation.
Strange, why did I feel these birds’ gaze was ‘anticipatory’?
Shen Qingyi was confused, but she didn’t think much of it. Having raised a small plump bird before, Shen Qingyi was experienced in mixing bird food. Following Shan Ling’s instructions, she added some grains and mealworms, creating a nutritionally balanced feast.
As soon as she placed it outside on the balcony, a few bold sparrows flew over. They didn’t seem afraid of Shen Qingyi and started eating right in front of her.
Shen Qingyi paused on the balcony for a moment and saw more and more small birds flying over. Some who couldn’t find space waited politely nearby, looking completely unhurried.
Shen Qingyi had never encountered this phenomenon before. She didn’t have any special connection with animals. The only one she had ever raised was the small, plump titmouse before. She hadn’t even fed the pigeons in the park square much. This was the first time she had seen so many birds.
The first batch of birds finished eating quickly. After they left, the birds still waiting in line started seizing the opportunity to come forward and eat. It looked like they wouldn’t finish anytime soon.
Shen Qingyi’s takeout arrived just in time. She withdrew her gaze from the birds and went to the door to pick up their lunch.
“Time to eat,” Shen Qingyi helped Shan Ling over to the dining table.
Shen Qingyi had ordered three home-style dishes. She had just steamed some rice, and everything was now arranged on the dining table, looking quite substantial.
Only…
“How am I supposed to eat?” Shan Ling stood by the table. Although her waist didn’t hurt as much as last night, she still couldn’t sit. She looked at Shen Qingyi, blinking: “Yiyi, do I have to… eat standing up?”
Shen Qingyi glanced at her waist and nodded in confirmation.
