Pats Little Shrike's Tail - Chapter 114
Chapter 114
Life continued as usual. By February, the weather had noticeably started to warm up, though mornings and evenings were still quite chilly.
The steps of early spring were approaching. Besides the rising temperatures, this was evidenced by the increasing number of birds at home.
The moment Shen Qingyi opened her eyes that day, she heard the loud chirping outside the bedroom. This had been going on for a week now. Almost every day, she was woken up not by an alarm clock or her biological clock, but by the sounds of the birds.
She sat up in bed, glanced at the collapsed duvet next to her, and casually lifted it.
She saw the pink little nightgown Shan Ling had worn last night, now crumpled on the bed. Shen Qingyi merely sighed, got out of bed, and walked out.
Passing through the living room, Shen Qingyi saw that there seemed to be even more birds at home today. She didn’t recognize many birds, only common ones like sparrows, but her balcony was currently covered with birds of all sizes, just like… a zoo.
Among them, the smallest, roundest, and whitest little mountain sparrow heard the movement, turned its head, and cheerfully greeted Shen Qingyi: “Good morning~”
The other small birds all turned their heads in unison, their small, bead-like eyes staring at her.
Shen Qingyi had moved from being totally disoriented to mostly used to it. She nodded and went to brush her teeth and wash her face first.
When Shen Qingyi left, the little birds immediately resumed their ceaseless chirping.
“Little Mountain Sparrow, this human is quite nice, unlike other humans.”
Shan Ling tilted her small head and asked, “How is she different?”
A little sparrow said: “Other humans carry an aggressive aura, but she doesn’t. She also feels very kind. She must have done many good deeds before, right?”
The little birds all nodded. Whether out of partiality due to their liking for Shan Ling or genuine admiration for Shen Qingyi, their evaluation of her was overwhelmingly positive.
Shen Qingyi was being complimented, and Shan Ling was happy too.
She puffed out her fluffy white chest and told the birds, “Of course! She’s my girlfriend~”
“Chirp, chirp, can a bird and a human date?”
“Then will their offspring be a bird or a human?”
“Little Mountain Sparrow, even though this human is good, don’t let the city people fool you. Maybe she just treats you like a pet?”
Shan Ling shook her head and said, “No, she is my girlfriend. You wouldn’t understand.”
The little birds started chattering, arguing that a bird and a human together was absurd; birds should be with birds.
Shan Ling got annoyed listening to them constantly advising her to look at her own kind. She checked the time and asked everyone to leave for now, so Shen Qingyi wouldn’t be displeased later.
Once the little birds had left the balcony, Shan Ling fluttered her wings, flew into the bedroom, and burrowed into her blanket, only to find her pajamas missing.
“Yiyi~”
Shan Ling, wrapped in her small blanket, sat on the bed and asked Shen Qingyi, who had just entered the room, “Where are my clothes?”
“I tossed them in the washing machine,” Shen Qingyi glanced at Shan Ling, who was completely bundled up, and leaned against the door, saying, “What’s wrong? I thought you liked turning into a little bird. Why do you need clothes?”
“A bird doesn’t need to wear them, but a human does,” Shan Ling, wrapped in the blanket, winked at Shen Qingyi: “Yiyi, bring me a new set of pajamas. I’ll go downstairs and buy breakfast for you.”
Shen Qingyi was unmoved. The corners of her eyes curled up as she looked at the blanket-wrapped person, and she said leisurely, “Didn’t we still have soaked beans yesterday? We can just make soy milk. Mostly, I want to know, since you wake up so early every day, is it because you don’t want to sleep in the same bed as me?”
Shan Ling tilted her head, blinked, and looked at her: “I’m a bird. Isn’t it normal for me to go to bed early and wake up early?”
Shen Qingyi snorted softly, walked over, and sat on the edge of the bed, meeting Shan Ling’s gaze.
“What do you talk about with those birds every day?” Shen Qingyi pinched Shan Ling’s cheek and asked, “Chatting so enthusiastically every day? It’s been a week, and I wake up every day to find you’ve turned into a bird.”
Shan Ling smiled broadly: “We talk about many things! Like who fought with whom, who found a good spot, the weather, food supplies, and they can even discuss which grains taste the best for a long time.”
Shen Qingyi evaluated after listening: “The daily life of little birds is indeed quite boring.”
“There’s nothing we can do. They are birds. You can’t expect them to go to college, right?” Shan Ling looked at Shen Qingyi with sparkling eyes, wrapped her blanket around herself, moved closer, and kissed her cheek with a ‘smack.’
Shen Qingyi was slightly startled, looking at her in confusion.
Shan Ling asked curiously, “Why that expression? You don’t like me kissing you?”
Since their first kiss that day, Shan Ling seemed utterly captivated. She loved the sensation of their lips touching.
Her heart raced, and her whole body felt hot.
Her mind felt pleasantly numb. Coupled with how closely Shen Qingyi held her, the thought alone made Shan Ling feel giddy and want to kiss Shen Qingyi a few more times.
“Actually, I wanted to kiss you earlier today,” Shan Ling smiled, her eyes curved, and said to Shen Qingyi, “But you were sleeping then, and I was afraid of waking you up. Now that you’re awake, can we have a proper kiss?”
With that, Shan Ling leaned in, bringing her face very close.
Shen Qingyi’s cheeks flushed slightly. This was her first time being flirted with by a bird to the point where her heart wouldn’t stop racing, and even her earlobes started to heat up.
Without hesitation, Shen Qingyi quickly lowered her head and passionately kissed Shan Ling.
Shan Ling adored the tingling sensation. She closed her eyes and felt her entire body heat up, a feeling that was both novel and delightful.
The bursts of fireworks in her mind weren’t as violent as when they first started, but Shan Ling still felt it wasn’t enough, wanting to ask for more.
As they kissed, the blanket covering Shan Ling slipped off her fair shoulders, revealing her smooth back, with skin like porcelain. Shan Ling, in turn, lifted her hands, hooked them around Shen Qingyi’s neck, and surrendered herself into her arms.
The fragrant and soft Shan Ling was radiating heat, her skin rosy as if she had been boiled. She nestled against Shen Qingyi, whimpering and continuing their unrestrained kiss.
Shen Qingyi controlled her expression, frowning slightly as she held Shan Ling’s waist, pressing her onto the bed, and lifted the fallen blanket to cover both of them.
Since there was nothing urgent to do, the two kissed for quite a long time.
Despite the early spring chill, Shan Ling was sweating all over. Even Shen Qingyi felt sticky, as if she was being infected by Shan Ling’s heat.
Separating their lips under the dim blanket, Shen Qingyi saw that Shan Ling’s lips were slightly swollen, soft and plump, like ripe fruit.
“Mmm…” Shan Ling wrinkled her little nose, then snuggled closer again, whining sweetly, “I’m so hot~”
“If you’re hot, why don’t you let go of me?” Shen Qingyi lifted the blanket, pulled her from the bed into her arms, and wrapped the blanket around her again, leaving only Shan Ling’s little head exposed.
“But even if I’m hot, I still want to kiss,” Shan Ling panted, holding Shen Qingyi’s waist and said, “Let’s do it again?”
Again?!
Shen Qingyi felt her throat dry and her entire body burning. She was afraid that another time would lead to a more in-depth exchange.
“Wait for next time,” Shen Qingyi was uncharacteristically shy. She didn’t consider herself thin-skinned, but Shan Ling’s straightforwardness made her feel embarrassed.
No wonder the ancient folk tales often mentioned that people entangled with nature spirits were physically weak. Now Shen Qingyi understood why.
If there truly was a little nature spirit in one’s arms, she felt that few people could resist.
Shan Ling was a little disappointed, but she couldn’t bear to force Shen Qingyi. She just kissed her cheek and said with a bright smile, “Yiyi, your face is so red~”
At her words, Shen Qingyi felt her mind explode.
Shan Ling watched her face get redder and redder, saying very happily, “Haha, Yiyi, your face looks like a monkey’s butt… Ah!”
Before she could finish, Shan Ling was pinned onto the bed by Shen Qingyi again. This time, she didn’t uncover the blanket but lowered her head and said ‘fiercely’ to Shan Ling, “You little chubby bird, still mocking me? Since there’s nothing urgent today, how about another round?”
Shan Ling smiled, her eyes crinkling, and leaned in again for a deep and lingering kiss.
Shen Qingyi received a call at the dining table. It was Shen Hongjun’s number, but the voice on the other end was a crisp little girl’s.
“Jiejie~”
Shen Jiaojiao’s soft voice rang out on the phone, making Shen Qingyi suddenly feel a moment of disorientation. It felt like she hadn’t seen her sister in a long time.
Shan Ling was eating and her eyes lit up upon hearing the voice. She called out, “Jiaojiao~”
“Xiaoling Jiejie~” Shen Jiaojiao greeted crisply, “Good evening! Have you two eaten yet?”
“We are eating now,” Shen Qingyi served Shan Ling a bowl of soup. She figured Shen Jiaojiao wouldn’t call on her own, so it must be Shen Hongjun prompting her. She then asked, “Do you need me to come home for dinner tomorrow?”
“Mhm,” Shen Jiaojiao praised, “Jiejie is so smart! Dad said you haven’t eaten at home for over a month. He bought a big lamb leg, and we’re going to have roast lamb when you come.”
Shan Ling started drooling when she heard “roast lamb,” but sadly, she was an outsider and couldn’t go to the Shen family’s house. She could only take the soup from Shen Qingyi and slowly started drinking it.
“I know,” Shen Qingyi said to the little girl on the phone, “I’ll drive over tomorrow evening.”
“Hehe, then I’ll show you the trophy I won tomorrow—first place in the piano competition!”
“Great, I know. I’ll come earlier tomorrow to see your trophy.”
The two chatted casually for a bit, but Shen Jiaojiao was still a child and didn’t have much to talk about with Shen Qingyi. Even after hanging up, Shen Qingyi didn’t hear Shen Hongjun’s voice, but she knew he must have been listening nearby.
“Yiyi, are you going to Jiaojiao’s tomorrow?” Shan Ling drank her soup, thought for a moment, and said, “I haven’t seen her in a while either.”
“If you want to see her, we can take her out to play on a weekend sometime.”
“Great~”
Shan Ling thought little Shen Jiaojiao was sensible, cute, and polite. Most importantly, she was very pretty, bearing a slight resemblance to Shen Qingyi’s features, probably all from their father.
“I’ll bake some small cookies tomorrow. Can you take them with you when you go?” Shan Ling happily thought, “Jiaojiao will definitely like the things I make.”
Shen Qingyi smiled, her eyes curved, tapped her little nose, and said with a smile, “Alright.”
