Pats Little Shrike's Tail - Chapter 110
Chapter 110
Shen Qingyi looked at her calmly and whispered, “Then, do you mind that I’m human?”
Shan Ling shook her head: “I don’t mind. I knew you were human from the beginning. However, you didn’t know I was a bird, so I wanted to ask you.”
Actually, in the hospital, when she heard Nuonuo say that Shen Qingyi desperately rushed into the fire, Shan Ling’s heart was moved.
She certainly had a good impression of Shen Qingyi, and Shen Qingyi obviously had a good impression of her too.
Shan Ling didn’t have as many worldly concerns. She didn’t care about Shen Qingyi’s gender, nor did she care about her species. She simply wanted to be with her. She just liked her as a person.
But Shan Ling wasn’t sure if Shen Qingyi would still like her after knowing she was a little bird.
Shan Ling watched her carefully, awaiting her answer.
At this moment, Shan Ling felt a rare wave of nervousness. She hadn’t been this nervous even when she first came to this city, but now her heart was pounding uncontrollably, thump-thump-thump, endlessly.
It made her dizzy and very chaotic inside.
After waiting for about three to five seconds, or maybe longer—Shan Ling wasn’t sure exactly how much time had passed—she finally heard a sentence from Shen Qingyi’s slightly moving lips.
“I don’t mind either.”
After saying this, Shen Qingyi reached out and touched Shan Ling’s cheek, slowly leaning in.
When the kiss landed on her forehead, Shan Ling felt fireworks exploding in her mind. Amidst the colorful blast, there wasn’t much sanity left in her blank brain.
She trembled slightly, reached out to touch her forehead, and looked at the person in front of her with disbelief.
“I originally wanted to kiss your lips,” Shen Qingyi pressed her thumb against Shan Ling’s lips and whispered, “But I thought that would be progressing too quickly, so I wanted to slow down a bit. Actually, right now, I really want to kiss you.”
“You are the person in my dream, the bird in my cage, and now, the person in my heart,” Shen Qingyi said with a sigh-like tone. “Nothing in this world is more important than you, Xiaoling.”
Shan Ling’s face flushed red. She could feel the other person’s breath, smell Shen Qingyi’s pleasant scent, and feel her warm body temperature.
This feeling was wonderful, making Shan Ling feel very relaxed.
Taking that step forward didn’t seem as hard as she had imagined.
Shen Qingyi looked at Shan Ling’s suddenly bright eyes, still not entirely sure what the little mountain sparrow had figured out, only feeling that she was truly adorable.
So adorable that she couldn’t help but want to kiss her.
Shen Qingyi cleared her throat, then pulled away from Shan Ling. Looking at her, she said, “We’ll order takeout for lunch later. What do you want to eat?”
“Anything is fine, as long as I’m with you,” Shan Ling smiled very happily, which surprised Shen Qingyi.
“…Alright, then I’ll order a few simple dishes,” Shen Qingyi got up, rubbed Shan Ling’s head, and told her, “I’ll go change the food in the bird feeders on your balcony in a moment.”
“Okay~” Shan Ling replied crisply.
After lunch, Shan Ling became idle. Shen Qingyi, however, took a call, said it was from the police, and hurried off.
Shan Ling still had one perfectly fine leg. Although her movement was limited, hopping around wasn’t a problem. When she got tired of hopping, she leaned against the wall to rest, then continued hopping on one foot.
The afternoon sun was still very warm. Shan Ling spent the entire day sunbathing her foot on the lounge chair on the balcony and chatting with the little birds, teaching them how to shell sunflower seeds.
By evening, the sky started to darken. The little birds bid farewell, reminding Shan Ling that it would rain tomorrow and hoping she would prepare more food so they wouldn’t have to work so hard scavenging in trash cans.
After the little birds returned home, Shan Ling stared blankly at the darkening sky, wondering why Shen Qingyi wasn’t back yet.
She lay on the sofa, staring in the direction of the door, daydreaming.
She sighed softly, scratching her slightly itchy foot, and curled up into a pitiful ball.
At the same time, Shen Qingyi had just left Shen Hongjun’s office.
“It’s getting late. Are you coming home for dinner with me tonight?” Shen Hongjun and Shen Qingyi rode the elevator down together, talking calmly about everyday things with his daughter: “You didn’t come home for the New Year. Jiaojiao was quite disappointed and said you should have come too.”
Shen Qingyi initially didn’t want to engage, but since Shen Hongjun had just helped her with a big favor, she couldn’t be too cold. She smiled faintly and said, “Jiaojiao is very cute.”
“She is. That child is growing up and is sensible. Every time she comes back from going out, she brings gifts for me and her mother, big and small things. The other day, she even bought tea snacks at the mall for us. She’s a thoughtful girl.”
“She’s 8 years old, so she should be sensible.”
“Yes,” Shen Hongjun glanced at his daughter beside him, sighed softly, and said, “The younger one is sensible, but the older one is still so insensible.”
Shen Qingyi knew Shen Hongjun was referring to her with those last words. She looked at him helplessly and said, “Thank you, Dad. If you hadn’t helped me, I would have been completely at a loss about the coffee shop.”
Shen Hongjun laughed heartily: “I’m your father. Shouldn’t I help you?”
With that, the elevator reached the underground parking lot. Shen Hongjun said to Shen Qingyi, “Come back with me tonight. It’s been over a month since we ate together, hasn’t it?”
“Not tonight,” Shen Qingyi glanced at the time and said, “Someone is waiting for me at home, so I won’t go back with you.”
Shen Hongjun was stunned to hear this: “That little helper… is she still living at your place?”
“Dad,” Shen Qingyi said firmly, “Her name is Shan Ling. She’s not a helper, and as of today, she’s my girlfriend. Be polite to her when you see her in the future.”
Shen Hongjun opened his mouth, feeling that as an older father, he needed to address this matter. But then he remembered that his daughter rarely talked to him about her personal life. If he argued and angered Shen Qingyi into leaving, it would be difficult to see her again.
“This… okay,” Shen Hongjun said with an unpleasant expression. “I will be polite to that girl when I have a chance to meet her in the future. But Yiyi, I still think it would be better if you found a responsible boyfriend.”
Shen Qingyi wasn’t angry. Her mood was so good today that she couldn’t resist saying a little more.
“I won’t have children in this lifetime anyway. The gene for mental illness shouldn’t be passed down,” Shen Qingyi looked at her father and smiled: “I’ll head back now.”
Watching Shen Qingyi drive away, Shen Hongjun, standing beside his driver, sighed softly.
What should I do?
The older my daughter gets, the less she listens to me, and I don’t even dare to talk back.
Shen Hongjun sighed again, saying to his driver, “Hey, Old Zhao, Yiyi smiled at me just now. Did you see it?”
The driver, Old Zhao, chuckled awkwardly, pretending he hadn’t heard anything.
Winter nights always arrive early.
Shen Qingyi was stuck in traffic on the Third Ring Road on her way home. It was rush hour now. She sat in the car, looking at the solid red line of taillights in front of her, resting one hand on her head, lost in thought.
She glanced at the time. It was already past six, and she wondered if Shan Ling was hungry all alone at home.
When she kissed Shan Ling today, Shen Qingyi immediately regretted it.
She should have just kissed her on the mouth. What was the deal with kissing her forehead?
Shen Qingyi felt that if she were given another chance, she would definitely block her mouth first without a second thought. It definitely wouldn’t be as simple as a forehead kiss.
They were both adults. The expression of love should be bolder, not as timid as an elementary school student.
Shen Qingyi sighed.
Maybe elementary school students were more proactive than her now.
Should I go back and make up for it?
Shen Qingyi fell into deep thought.
Just as she was seriously contemplating, the car behind her honked impatiently. Shen Qingyi looked up and saw that the car in front had moved a good distance. She quickly came back to her senses and drove forward.
The jammed cars moved like tortoises, making Shen Qingyi anxious.
She shouldn’t have listened to the navigation and taken this main road. She should have taken the route she usually drove. At least it wouldn’t be this horribly jammed during rush hour!
“Why is the car in front driving so slowly?” Shen Qingyi grumbled unhappily, picked up her phone from the side, and unlocked the screen, seeing no messages.
“It’s so late, and she hasn’t sent me a message or called?” Shen Qingyi said, displeased. “It’s only the first day, and she’s treating me like this?”
Shen Qingyi had never been in a relationship, but she didn’t think people who liked each other would be like this, would they?
Could it be that Shan Ling is also waiting for me to call?
Shen Qingyi thought it was very possible. She curved her lips slightly and dialed Shan Ling’s number.
She looked at the dialing screen and suddenly recalled what Nuonuo had told her a few days ago: How can you have a story if you don’t take the initiative?
Shen Qingyi felt that this statement made some sense.
With a pleasant mood, Shen Qingyi waited a moment and then heard Shan Ling’s voice.
“Yiyi?”
She had to admit that ever since she found out Shan Ling was a bird, Shen Qingyi found her voice increasingly melodious. It really sounded a little bit like a bird chirping when she spoke.
Was it an illusion?
But it was quite cute.
“It’s me,” Shen Qingyi said, “It’s dark now. I’m stuck in traffic here. Are you watching TV alone at home?”
“I am,” Shan Ling lay on the sofa, crossing her feet and saying, “I found a movie to watch. When will you be back? I’m getting a little hungry.”
“You’re hungry?” Shen Qingyi couldn’t help but smile. “There’s food in the fridge, or you can have some snacks to tide you over. I’ll be home soon. What do you want to eat? I’ll buy it on the way.”
Although today was the first day they confirmed their relationship, Shan Ling’s foot was still injured, so it was inconvenient to go out to celebrate. Shen Qingyi planned to make up for the trip she owed her during the Spring Festival once her injury healed.
This was also the first good thing to happen after the coffee shop fire.
“I want cake,” Shan Ling flipped over, crossing her feet and saying, “I want chocolate flavor, and I also want mango flavor. Durian flavor would be even better.”
Shen Qingyi considered for a moment and said with a smile, “Alright, I’ll buy some from the cake shop downstairs. Besides that, what else do you want to eat?”
Shan Ling swung her feet: “I don’t want to eat anything else. I just want you to come back quickly and keep me company.”
Shen Qingyi was silent for a moment, then said seriously, “I’ll be there soon.”
