- Over The Top! He Keeps Making the Gold-Digging Alpha Cry
- Chapter 99 - This is True Jealousy
“Absolutely not,” Ji Rongyu refused quickly, and Pei Yu’s face also showed resistance.
This provided another excellent spectacle for the rest of the class.
As Xu Wanxing swam, his scalp tingled as he was subjected to everyone’s gaze.
If their eyes could talk, he would have already been drowned by the students’ chatter.
Especially certain students, whose eyes were fixed intently on his waist.
In this moment, Xu Wanxing regretted his decision even more than he had the day before.
Why did he have to choose this accursed swimming class?!
Suddenly, a loud chatter erupted among the crowd.
“Pei Yu said he likes people who swim faster than him.”
“Both of these students swim faster than him, so which one will he like?”
“That doesn’t count. Pei Yu had a leg cramp. How can you say the other two swam faster?”
The students were caught in a heated, non-stop debate, with many arguing until their faces were flushed red.
The three finally reached the shore. Xu Wanxing scrambled and crawled out of the water. All the students were now gathered around the finish line; if the teacher hadn’t been blocking them, they probably would have mobbed him.
Ji Rongyu climbed ashore neatly, his slightly longer hair plastered to his face, adding a touch of allure.
Yet, his cold, aloof demeanor prevented anyone from daring to approach, only allowing them to stare from a distance.
Pei Yu’s lips were pale, and he said, “Give me a hand.”
Xu Wanxing intended to help, but suddenly remembered something and stopped.
This was Ji Rongyu’s perfect opportunity; how could he snatch it?
He waited for a few seconds, but Ji Rongyu still hadn’t helped Pei Yu out. Xu Wanxing shot Ji Rongyu a meaningful look.
Ji Rongyu frowned. “What is it? You can’t possibly want me to pull him up, can you?”
Hope flared in Xu Wanxing’s eyes, but before he could hear the word “willing” from Ji Rongyu’s lips, he heard Pei Yu say, “Xu Wanxing, help me up.”
Xu Wanxing: “…”
In the end, he was the one who crouched by the shore and, with a resigned sense of duty, pulled Pei Yu up.
Pei Yu leaned on him with most of his body, one leg slightly bent, and whispered in his ear, “Help me to the wall to sit down and recover.”
Xu Wanxing looked pleadingly toward Ji Rongyu as he helped Pei Yu walk toward the long bench by the swimming pool wall.
After Pei Yu sat down and Xu Wanxing saw Ji Rongyu following, he quietly rose.
“Ji Rongyu, you’re here. Help him massage his leg, please. I’ll go ask the teacher how the scores were recorded.”
Ji Rongyu stood frozen, wanting to speak, and stared blankly at Xu Wanxing’s retreating back.
Pei Yu lowered his head, massaging his own leg repeatedly, not sparing Ji Rongyu a glance.
Xu Wanxing returned quickly, with the teacher in tow.
The teacher said apologetically, “I’m sorry, Ji Rongyu. I didn’t record your score. I was too busy dealing with Pei Yu being near-drowning to worry about it.”
“Could you measure again? If you don’t have enough stamina right now, you can test during the next class.”
Ji Rongyu nodded, his expression calm. “I’ll test after I rest for ten minutes.”
The teacher agreed, patted Xu Wanxing on the shoulder, and gave him a thumbs-up. “Classmate, you swim quite fast too.”
Xu Wanxing smiled, his face full of pride. “Of course.”
He had been learning to swim since childhood, and it was a required test for his physical education and high school entrance exam; how could he not be fast?
The teacher left, and Xu Wanxing sat next to Pei Yu, pursing his lips as he watched him silently massage his own leg.
He wanted to ask Ji Rongyu to help massage it to foster their relationship, but then he remembered that Ji Rongyu would have to re-test in a few minutes and should be conserving his energy.
Just as he was struggling with this dilemma, Pei Yu called his name.
“My hand is getting tired. Could you help me massage it for a while?”
“I can.” Since Pei Yu had asked, Xu Wanxing naturally felt it was his duty.
Pei Yu had massaged him before they swam; he couldn’t possibly be ungrateful, could he?
He just felt a bit guilty toward Ji Rongyu.
Pei Yu taught Xu Wanxing a few easy-to-learn movements. Xu Wanxing noted the actions, massaging half-heartedly, glancing repeatedly in Ji Rongyu’s direction.
He wouldn’t be angry, would he?
Seeing Ji Rongyu’s expression, Xu Wanxing’s heart sank.
Ji Rongyu’s face was icy cold, his eyes staring straight at Xu Wanxing’s hand, or perhaps more accurately, his hand resting on Pei Yu’s leg.
This was true jealousy.
He felt so guilty.
The pressure of Xu Wanxing’s hand grew weaker, a strong sense of guilt driving him to quickly distance himself from the relationship between the other two.
Pei Yu noticed and considerately said, “Are you tired? My leg doesn’t hurt as much anymore, so you don’t have to keep pressing.”
That was the exact phrase he was waiting for!
Xu Wanxing retracted his hand with lightning speed and looked at Ji Rongyu. Sure enough, Ji Rongyu’s expression had improved slightly compared to a moment ago.
Despite all this, Ji Rongyu had told him before that he didn’t like Pei Yu.
He really must be saying one thing while meaning another.
When the time was up, Ji Rongyu stood up, did a few stretching exercises, and walked toward the starting point.
Because it was free activity time, the long benches all around the pool were practically full of people, except for theirs.
A single long bench could seat at least five or six people, but there were only Xu Wanxing and Pei Yu on theirs.
Inquisitive gazes assaulted them from all directions.
There were also many students who deliberately stood in front of them, pretending to pick something up.
Drop an item and pick it up; drop an item and pick it up.
One item was dropped over ten times and picked up over ten times.
Xu Wanxing was speechless at this display.
This method of eavesdropping was too clumsy!
Clumsy but effective.
It really did allow them to hear the conversation between the two, given the close proximity.
For some reason, sitting next to Pei Yu, Xu Wanxing felt awkward.
He hadn’t felt it in the dorm, but that strange feeling emerged the moment they were in the gymnasium.
Was it because Pei Yu wasn’t wearing clothes, only a pair of swimming trunks?
It shouldn’t be that. It must be because Ji Rongyu liked Pei Yu, making Xu Wanxing, the person caught in the middle, feel incredibly uneasy.
He finally understood the feeling of helplessness that women on the internet described when meeting their best friend’s partner.
Who could endure this? It was so embarrassing.
Pei Yu shifted his leg uncomfortably. “Could you help me press it again? It’s starting to hurt a little.”
“…Okay.”
Xu Wanxing silently applied his hands. The people picking things up in front saw that the two weren’t talking and walked away, bored.
Now, Ji Rongyu was the only one in the entire swimming pool left without a score. They heard a splash, and Ji Rongyu was in the water.
Xu Wanxing was curious if Ji Rongyu could swim faster than Pei Yu, so he kept an eye on the shore situation while massaging the leg.
A moment later, Ji Rongyu climbed ashore, his hair dripping wet and plastered to his face. He swept it back with a hand, revealing his smooth forehead.
His usually calm eyes reflected the image of the person in front of him.
After recording his score, Ji Rongyu walked toward the wall.
Xu Wanxing, who was massaging the leg, suddenly felt a warmth on his hand; a certain person’s intense gaze had scorched it. Xu Wanxing sheepishly let go.
Just now, he had heard the students discussing Pei Yu, saying that he liked people who swam faster than him.
Xu Wanxing looked at Ji Rongyu. “Ji Rongyu, how was your swim?”
Without waiting for Ji Rongyu to answer, he subtly suggested, “Pei Yu said he likes people who swim faster than him. Are you faster than him?”
Pei Yu: “…” He actually did say that.
Water was still dripping from Ji Rongyu’s body, crystal-clear droplets sliding down the beautiful curves of his neck and shoulders, while a few mischievous drops lingered on Ji Rongyu’s abdominal muscles, refusing to fall.
Everything was so beautiful, yet Ji Rongyu’s expression was the only thing that wasn’t pleasant.
