- Chapter 86 - A Little Heartache
Inexplicably, he felt a little heartache.
Xu Wanxing’s movements stopped. His hand rested on Lu Yanbai’s, lightly covering it, while Lu Yanbai’s hand rested on his stomach.
Time seemed to freeze at this moment.
Xu Wanxing felt a ringing in his ears. He seemed to hear the deafening sound of his own heartbeat, so loud that he was afraid others would hear it and laugh at him.
“Do you want the skewers sticks or not?”
Suddenly, a voice boomed in his ear.
An elderly sanitation worker walked by with a trash can and stopped beside them.
“N-no, we don’t,” Xu Wanxing said, standing up and gathering the wooden skewers from the table. He bundled them up and threw them into the trash can.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lu Yanbai put the hand that had been resting on his stomach into his pocket.
The hand was gone, but Xu Wanxing could still vaguely feel the warmth of that hand on his stomach.
It was comforting, but more than that, it was reassuring.
The old woman smiled and walked away. Lu Yanbai stood up and pulled out a few tissues, handing them to Xu Wanxing. “Wipe up.”
He didn’t use the hand that had been near Xu Wanxing. Instead, he used his other hand, awkwardly pulling tissues for Xu Wanxing.
No one noticed the hand Lu Yanbai had in his pocket. His palm and even his fingertips were subtly burning, very red.
It was as if a fire had ignited from his fingertips to his heart, making his heart race.
They didn’t hold hands on the way back.
Xu Wanxing looked at Lu Yanbai’s hand, which was kept in his pocket, and pursed his lips, looking a little forlorn.
He won’t hold my hand, will he? Then I won’t hold his.
As if I really wanted to.
As if sulking, Xu Wanxing walked quickly, his steps swift.
The small wound in his heart let in a cold wind, chilling his heart.
They reached the school gate.
“I’m going in. Bye-bye,” Xu Wanxing said, turning his head to leave.
He suddenly felt his hand being pulled. The person’s fingertips were trembling, as if shaking or perhaps excited.
That hand was very hot, unusually hot. It felt less like it was holding his wrist and more like it was holding his heart.
“Did Baby forget something?”
Lu Yanbai’s voice was as elegant and pleasant as ever. Xu Wanxing found the sound particularly intoxicating, whether due to the beautiful moonlight or something else.
“Goodbye?”
Lu Yanbai shook his head. “Not that.” He gave Xu Wanxing a look that said, “You know what I mean.”
Xu Wanxing: What am I supposed to know?
Lu Yanbai leaned in closer, suggestively pointing to his lips.
Okay, he immediately understood.
The sky held a bright moon. Beside them was a barbecue stall full of the smell of fire and smoke. Yet, the person in front of him blended the two captivating qualities of divinity and worldliness.
Xu Wanxing, as usual, lightly sealed Lu Yanbai’s lips with a kiss. The goodnight kiss had almost become a habit, yet his heart felt unusually chaotic at this moment.
After a brief taste, Xu Wanxing quickly backed away, waved his hand, and ran into the school without looking back.
In the moonlight, a smile hung on Lu Yanbai’s face.
That little animal seemed to have just grasped his meaning. Watching his look of first love was truly amusing.
It’s not too late.
He’s just in time.
Xu Wanxing returned to the dorm, panting. He had run very fast, as if a ghost were chasing him.
His heart beat violently after the exercise, pounding against his chest with every beat.
Xu Wanxing opened the dorm room door and sat down to catch his breath.
Pei Yu paused his movements, his head slightly turned, his nose bridge high and prominent.
The bright light of the computer screen illuminated half of his face, making the other half appear particularly sharp and striking.
“You came back today?” Pei Yu’s voice was hoarse.
“Mm.”
“Why didn’t you come back yesterday? Are you mad at me? I apologize. I didn’t mean to lose my temper. I was just too angry. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to control myself and hit someone,” Pei Yu said.
Xu Wanxing was stunned for a moment. “It’s okay, I’m not mad.”
It really wasn’t a big deal, and mainly, it had nothing to do with him. Pei Yu losing control of his emotions toward Ji Rongyu was their business. Why should he, an outsider, interfere?
Pei Yu pondered for a moment. “Then why didn’t you come back to sleep last night?”
Xu Wanxing’s face turned slightly red. “My partner came to pay the bill, so I slept at his place.”
Pei Yu: “?!” He shouldn’t have opened his mouth.
“I’ll split the cost of the meal with you. I can’t let your partner treat me to a meal.”
Xu Wanxing waved his hand dismissively. “It’s fine. He has money.”
“…Alright.”
After sitting for a while, Xu Wanxing felt his throat dry and scratchy. He stood up and looked for water to drink.
It must be because he ate too much barbecue, making him dry and thirsty.
He searched around and found no water. Xu Wanxing swallowed hard, trying to moisturize his dry throat. “Pei Yu, do you have any water?”
Pei Yu released the mouse, found a bottle of water in his drawer, and handed it to Xu Wanxing.
Just as Xu Wanxing was about to take it, Pei Yu suddenly pulled his hand back, and the refreshing bottle of water slipped away from him.
Xu Wanxing, who was dry and thirsty to death: ?!!
He had a swear word, but he didn’t know if he should say it.
Xu Wanxing: Grass! (A kind of Pei Yu plant)
Xu Wanxing’s throat was so dry it was almost smoking. He painfully squeezed a few words out of his throat. “Water, give me the water!!”
Pei Yu looked troubled. “I’ve drunk from this water. There’s still most of the bottle left. If you don’t mind…”
Before he could finish, Xu Wanxing snatched the bottle of water and gulped it down.
After chugging it down, Xu Wanxing felt alive again.
He patted the stunned Pei Yu’s shoulder. “Good buddy, I don’t mind at all. I should thank you for saving my life. I almost died of thirst.”
Pei Yu’s gaze was fixed on the mouth of the bottle. There was not a single drop of water left in the bottle. Xu Wanxing had drunk it all.
Just then, he also felt thirsty.
How is this not indirect kissing in a way?
Although he had poured the water from the bottle into his usual glass to drink, he had never touched the mouth of the bottle.
Pei Yu’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. His voice was even hoarser than before. “I’m a little thirsty too. I’m going to buy some water.”
Xu Wanxing quickly said, “I’m coming too, I’m coming too.” One bottle of water was definitely not enough, especially since it wasn’t even a full one.
His throat was only just not smoking anymore, and his stomach was still dry and hot like it was on fire.
Pei Yu thought for a moment. “Mm, you go then. I won’t go. Bring me two bottles.”
“…Okay.”
Why is this different from what he expected? Even if they weren’t going together, shouldn’t Pei Yu be the one offering to bring him water?
This is a reverse routine.
Xu Wanxing was fast. He bought a bottle of ice water to drink while he was there and brought back several more. He drank along the way, and by the time he reached the dorm door, he felt like his stomach was starting to feel weird.
Could his body be that fragile?!
He only ate a little barbecue and drank some ice water. A little diarrhea should be fine, right?
Xu Wanxing comforted himself. He entered the dorm and placed the water on Pei Yu’s desk. Pei Yu was nowhere to be seen in the dorm, but Xu Wanxing couldn’t worry about that. His stomach hurt terribly.
Other people had “Candy Super Sweet,” but he had “Stomach Super Pain.”
He hurried to the bathroom door, one hand already reaching for the waistband of his trousers.
