- Chapter 56 - Who Would Fall for a Rival?
Leave it in the dorm?
That was definitely impossible. The dorm room was so small. If Pei Yu saw it by accident, he would be doomed.
Take it home?
Ridiculous. That house was a gift from Lu Yanbai. Lu Yanbai would know immediately that the items inside weren’t bought by him. How would he explain if he were questioned?
It couldn’t go here, and it couldn’t go there. Where else could it go?
A person’s image suddenly surfaced in Xu Wanxing’s mind—extremely reliable, composed, and steady as a mountain.
Xu Wanxing suddenly stopped, looking at the person beside him with expectant eyes. “Ji Rongyu, could I bother you for a small favor?”
Ji Rongyu hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
“Do you have a home?” Xu Wanxing asked.
Ji Rongyu was utterly confused. “Huh?”
Xu Wanxing clarified, “I mean, do you have a place to live outside of school? I was wondering if I could keep this box at your place for a while. Can I store it with you?”
Ji Rongyu’s face flushed as he thought of something, and he avoided looking at Xu Wanxing, nodding, “Yes.”
Xu Wanxing was beaming. He patted Ji Rongyu’s arm warmly. “Thank you.”
By storing it with Ji Rongyu, he could slowly take the items home bit by bit, and presumably, Lu Yanbai wouldn’t have any questions.
It was an instant win.
Ji Rongyu’s heart was filled with immense joy. Xu Wanxing was already willing to move things to his home. What did that mean?
He wanted to cohabit with him!
This little Alpha, who couldn’t hide his feelings, had actually given him such a huge surprise.
Did that mean he was Xu Wanxing’s partner now?
Looking at the smile on the person’s face, Ji Rongyu felt relieved. If he wasn’t Xu Wanxing’s partner, then who could be?
Wait a moment, what about the person Xu Wanxing went on a date with?
Ji Rongyu cleared his throat a few times. “Xu Wanxing, who was the person you were on a date with that day?”
Xu Wanxing secretly curled the corner of his lips. See? After only one meeting, Ji Rongyu was already interested in the protagonist-shou. Too bad Ji Rongyu wasn’t the protagonist-gong.
Xu Wanxing quickly gave an introduction. “He is an absolutely perfect person—handsome, rich, a CEO at a young age, with a great physique, and he is extremely considerate and caring toward his loved ones…”
Xu Wanxing chattered on and on, saying everything good there was to say about Lu Yanbai.
Ji Rongyu found it grating to listen to but couldn’t help wanting to learn more about his love rival.
Seeing Xu Wanxing stop, Ji Rongyu asked, “Anything else?”
Xu Wanxing nodded. “Of course, he has other strengths, but he is not someone you can fantasize about.”
Ji Rongyu: …Who would fall in love with a rival? That’s just crazy, isn’t it?
Seeing Ji Rongyu’s ugly expression, Xu Wanxing patted his shoulder and said with shared bitterness, “It’s fine. He’s not someone I can fantasize about either. We’re both stuck in the same boat. A wonderful person like him is not suited for either of us.”
Ji Rongyu: Why does that feel even more stifling?
After a moment of contemplation, Ji Rongyu nodded reluctantly.
Looking on the bright side, didn’t this mean Xu Wanxing didn’t actually like him that much, giving him a great chance?
After walking for a while, his legs were getting tired. Xu Wanxing patted Ji Rongyu’s shoulder.
“Goodbye for now. I’m a bit tired, so I’ll head back.”
After saying goodbye, Ji Rongyu hugged the large box, hailed a taxi, and returned to his residence.
He put the box on the table and went to the restroom. When he came out, he saw Pei Yu staring at the box with an unpleasant expression.
The wrinkle in his brow looked like it could crush a fly, and his face was extremely dark.
Facing Pei Yu, who he now considered no longer a good friend—a low-quality person who harassed others—Ji Rongyu’s expression was not good.
He questioned him, “Why are you at my place?”
Pei Yu raised his hand and shook the key in his hand. “You gave me the key, didn’t you tell me I could drop by anytime?”
Then he pointed at the box on the table. “Where did this come from?”
Ji Rongyu thought for a moment. “My partner gave it to me.”
Pei Yu’s face instantly changed. He took a long stride forward and grabbed Ji Rongyu’s collar.
“Say that again. Where did this box come from?”
Ji Rongyu slapped Pei Yu’s hand away, his expression displeased as he straightened his shirt.
“My partner gave it to me. Is there a problem?” Xu Wanxing had given him the box, indicating his willingness to cohabit with him. By extension, they were partners.
Nothing wrong with that.
He had no idea why Pei Yu was going crazy.
Pei Yu’s eyes were bulging out. He pointed a trembling finger at the box, his face contorted savagely, as if he wanted to eat someone alive.
“How could he be your partner?”
Wanxing actually had a partner? And it was his good friend!
This kind of melodramatic nonsense was now splashed right in their faces.
Hearing that line, Ji Rongyu immediately thought of the man who had embraced Xu Wanxing, and his composure instantly shattered. “He is my partner. Why can’t he be my partner?”
Pei Yu was stunned. He backed away, crestfallen, until he bumped his waist on the table leg with a jolt of pain.
“So you’re his partner.”
No wonder. No wonder Wanxing always kept a distance from him, as if he were holding back. The culprit was right in front of him.
Pei Yu clenched his fists tightly. Yet, the person in front of him was his good friend, which made him unable to articulate his questions for a moment.
Pei Yu looked at Ji Rongyu, his eyes bloodshot. “Why is it you and not me? Ji Rongyu, we are no longer friends. Goodbye.”
With that, Pei Yu threw the key in his hand onto the floor, rushed out the door without a second look at the gifts on the table.
Ji Rongyu picked up the key from the floor. Just as he had suspected, Pei Yu not only harassed Xu Wanxing but also liked him. Now he had misunderstood, right?
At this moment, Pei Yu’s “Wanxing” and Ji Rongyu’s “little Alpha” had subtly merged into one person.
Pei Yu’s heart felt like ashes. Wanxing’s partner was his best friend, who had been hiding it and stringing him along—that hurt him the most.
Pei Yu opened his phone to send Xu Wanxing one last farewell. After typing the message, he immediately blocked and deleted Xu Wanxing.
Goodbye, Wanxing.
He would just accept that his summer fantasy had shattered.
Xu Wanxing felt his phone vibrate and opened it.
Well, well, a little essay.
Pei Yu’s little essay. Just looking at it made him feel like tiny ants were dancing before his eyes; there were so many words.
In summary, he would no longer like “Wanxing.”
Xu Wanxing tentatively sent a “?”.
A huge red exclamation point instantly popped up.
“The recipient has enabled friend verification.”
Pei Yu had deleted him. What had he done? He hadn’t done anything and yet the mission was a success. He had earned Pei Yu’s disgust and deletion.
He truly lived up to his name, Xu Wanxing, the plot-line genius.
The next step was his sycophantic period. Xu Wanxing tried to add Pei Yu a few times, watching the plot progress bar shoot up rapidly, filling him with huge satisfaction.
But the progress bar stalled at 85.
What a pity.
Xu Wanxing: [System, show me all the progress bars.]
