- Chapter 32 - The Cheap Scent
Xu Wanxing looked at the clean and tidy restaurant interior and quietly glared at Lin Yao.
How could this be called a street stall? This was clearly a proper restaurant!
No sense of perspective, Xu Wanxing grumbled internally, though he kept a smile on his face. “Of course, it tastes good! Brother Lin is used to such high-class delicacies and rare food, so I wanted to let Brother Lin try something like this.”
They entered the restaurant.
Having researched the place and deciding he wanted to eat here, Xu Wanxing looked at the menu and immediately ordered several plates of crayfish.
There were dishes with garlic butter, spicy flavor, and numbing chili flavor—everything they could want.
Then, a few bottles of beer, which absolutely had to be ice-cold beer. Bliss!
This was the food he loved most for entertainment in his previous life: crayfish paired with beer—delicious and exciting, perfect for a poor worker like him.
As for Lin Yao, he could eat or not eat; the less he ate, the more Xu Wanxing could enjoy.
It’s all because he’s a willful, money-grubbing Alpha.
He was just adhering to his character persona.
Having found sufficient justification for himself, Xu Wanxing eagerly started eating as soon as the crayfish arrived.
Lin Yao watched Xu Wanxing with a frown.
Xu Wanxing started with the numbing chili flavor, which was so spicy it made him hiss and stick out his tongue.
His lips were plump and red, slightly swollen, with small red chili flakes clinging to the corners of his mouth. His little tongue, partially visible, could only be seen as a glimpse, but Lin Yao could imagine how soft and tender it was.
It looked as if a gentle lick would make it melt.
Xu Wanxing ate with great excitement. After a while, finding it too spicy, he chugged a large mouthful of ice-cold beer.
“Ha, refreshing!”
This was the life a human should live!
Lin Yao pursed his lips and, as if enchanted, picked up a bottle of beer nearby and took a sip.
A cheap taste.
How could Xu Wanxing be so happy drinking this?
But it was indeed refreshing.
Looking at the small crayfish with their hard shells in the dish, Lin Yao poked them with his chopsticks. The lobsters he usually ate were as big as an arm, cut in half and cooked, with meat the size of a fist.
Why were these crayfish so tiny? They were probably only as thick as one of his fingers and mostly shell.
Yet, Xu Wanxing was extremely happy, which made the craving in Lin Yao’s stomach stir restlessly.
Lin Yao spoke up, “Hey, Xu Wanxing, aren’t you treating me to a meal? Why aren’t you helping me peel them? These shells are terribly hard. Do I have to peel them myself?”
Xu Wanxing froze, his mouth slightly open, tongue halfway out, preparing to eat a crayfish he had already peeled. Hearing this, he tossed the peeled crayfish into Lin Yao’s bowl.
Lin Yao wanted to eat this and expected him to peel it?
Forget it. Considering Lin Yao was a good person who gave the original host 500,000 yuan to save his grandmother, he would peel them.
Xu Wanxing wiped his mouth with a napkin, asked the waiter for gloves, put them on, and began peeling crayfish for Lin Yao.
Lin Yao used his chopsticks to poke the small piece of crayfish meat in his bowl. Xu Wanxing was about to eat it just now, right? Did his lips touch it?
Lin Yao secretly glanced at Xu Wanxing’s mouth.
Xu Wanxing had just finished all the spicy crayfish, and his mouth was slightly swollen from the chili. From Lin Yao’s perspective, it looked like he was pouting affectionately.
Lin Yao lightly cleared his throat and moved his gaze back to the bowl.
Never mind. Even if Xu Wanxing had touched it, Lin Yao wouldn’t be too disgusted.
Xu Wanxing peeled five or six and wanted to take a break, only to find Lin Yao staring at him with bright eyes, seemingly urging him to peel faster.
Didn’t he say he didn’t like this food?
Xu Wanxing was puzzled, but kept his hands moving until he had peeled the entire plate of spicy crayfish, finally letting out a sigh of relief.
That should be enough, right? He looked up and saw Lin Yao still staring at him with those bright eyes.
Wasn’t that enough to eat?
His hands were starting to ache from peeling.
In a study room in a duplex villa.
Lu Yanbai looked at the social media post his Little Alpha had uploaded, his expression icy.
He put down the business documents he was halfway through processing and tapped on the photo Xu Wanxing had taken.
What was he doing at a bar? Hadn’t Lu Yanbai told his little Omega not to constantly go to dangerous places like bars?
Oh, wait. Xu Wanxing was an Alpha; he was his little Alpha.
Even as an Alpha, this wasn’t acceptable.
Baby is really disobedient.
It was normal for young people to like to have fun, but Xu Wanxing was a little Alpha who already had a partner. Why couldn’t he control himself?
Disobedient.
Suddenly, Lu Yanbai noticed something amiss. He placed his pale, slender fingers on the screen, zooming in on the photo repeatedly.
When he finally saw the person beside Xu Wanxing, Lu Yanbai’s face turned as cold as ice.
Why was that womanizer, Lin Yao, next to him?
Thinking of his own little Alpha—sweet, soft, and lovable—Lu Yanbai’s heart sank. Was Lin Yao trying to poach him?
What was the meaning of Lin Yao abandoning his role as the person in charge behind the scenes to come to a bar and try to poach his partner?
Did he think he was easy to bully?
Lu Yanbai immediately messaged Xu Wanxing asking for his location.
Xu Wanxing was busy peeling shrimp and didn’t see the message at all.
He had just managed to teach Lin Yao how to peel, and there wasn’t much crayfish left. He had only eaten a tiny bit of the numbing chili flavored crayfish!
Lin Yao was eating way too much.
Xu Wanxing ordered several more plates of crayfish. The two of them peeled shrimp and drank beer, enjoying themselves greatly.
Only Lu Yanbai, far away in the villa, was furious and helpless, seeing that his Baby hadn’t replied to his message.
Xu Wanxing said, “It’s delicious, right? Crayfish and ice-cold beer are a perfect match.”
Lin Yao nodded, his gaze toward Xu Wanxing softening considerably. “Thank you for bringing me here to eat today. I never expected something like this could be so delicious.”
Xu Wanxing chuckled. “Thank me for what? I should be thanking you for lending me the money to treat my grandmother.”
Lin Yao asked, “Did your grandmother recover?”
Xu Wanxing’s grip on the beer tightened. He shook his head. “No, the old lady’s body gave out; she passed away.”
In the plot, the original host and his grandmother depended on each other. After she died, the original host no longer wanted to live, but because he was a key piece of cannon fodder in the plot, the System appeared and found a host to play the role and follow the story.
The original host must have truly loved his grandmother.
The lonely Xu Wanxing sighed, his expression sorrowful.
Understanding that he had touched on a sensitive topic, Lin Yao fell silent. Xu Wanxing treating him to this meal had completely changed his perception of Xu Wanxing.
The Xu Wanxing of the present seemed different from the affected boy in his memory who had climbed into his bed.
Lin Yao changed the subject. “You’re studying at Imperial Capital University, right? A friend of mine studies there too. I wonder if you know him? I heard he’s quite famous, a big-shot campus crush.”
Campus Crush?
Xu Wanxing instantly thought of Ji Rongyu.
He tentatively asked, “Is it Ji Rongyu?”
Lin Yao nodded. “Yes, do you know him?”
Xu Wanxing said, “Not well. We only sat together during class. He seems to dislike me very much.”
Lin Yao shut his mouth. He should never have brought it up.
After thinking for a moment, he came up with another way to compensate Xu Wanxing. “Let me take you shopping for clothes. It’s not right for you to just wear a white shirt and black pants to a bar. You need to buy some flashy clothes.”
Xu Wanxing followed Lin Yao to the same shopping mall Lu Yanbai had taken him to last time.
After a few days, the shopping mall was still dazzling and extravagantly luxurious.
Lin Yao led him into a clothing store filled with brightly colored clothes.
With a grand gesture, he waved his hand. “Buy whatever you want. I’ll pay for it.”
