- Chapter 15 - Social Anxiety Overload
Pei Yu still didn’t entirely believe him, but as only Xu Wanxing’s roommate, it wasn’t appropriate to ask for more details.
Muttering, “Fine,” Pei Yu sat back down. His friends in the game were already contacting him, asking if he’d disconnected because his hero wasn’t moving.
Pei Yu held the mouse, but his mind wasn’t on the game.
Xu Wanxing took all the clothes out, closed his eyes looking at the priceless garments, and took out a basin to wash them.
He’d just treat this as a perk.
After all, this might be the only time in his life he wears clothes this expensive.
The Distinguished Alumnus Speech
A few days later, the day of the Distinguished Alumnus speech arrived.
Xu Wanxing had spent the past few days soaking in the library, feeling immense mental and physical trauma.
Who invented Calculus?
He wanted to murder that person!
The Distinguished Alumnus speech was being held in the gymnasium, which could seat 2,000 people.
Xu Wanxing knew this so clearly because he was there.
He didn’t want to come, given that he was busy studying Calculus, but he couldn’t refuse the Old Professor’s invitation.
Because of sleeping in class, Xu Wanxing and the Old Professor had formed a tremendous bond.
This was all thanks to the difficult Calculus problems. Xu Wanxing couldn’t understand the solutions he searched for online, so he had to ask the Old Professor.
Through this back and forth, the two became familiar.
The Old Professor reported sick and couldn’t attend the university today, so he asked Xu Wanxing to record the video for him and to pay special attention to Shen Yuxian.
A brilliant entrepreneur, his most proud student.
He told Xu Wanxing to learn from him; the man had looks and money, was a major entrepreneur, and was still so hardworking.
Xu Wanxing sat in a very front row of the audience, surrounded by teachers.
Because this Distinguished Alumnus speech invited the famous entrepreneur Shen Yuxian, Alphas worshiped him, Betas respected him, and Omegas wanted to marry him.
Shen Yuxian was the ultimate golden bachelor.
This meant the seats required reserving online, but Xu Wanxing didn’t know. By the time he agreed to the Old Professor, all the seats were gone, so he had to cheekily sit in the Old Professor’s assigned seat.
Of course, Shen Yuxian wasn’t the only distinguished alumnus. After seventeen or eighteen alumni finished their turns, it was finally the last one—Shen Yuxian.
The moment he walked onto the stage, the applause from the audience was deafening.
He didn’t look like a distinguished alumnus; he looked like a celebrity.
Xu Wanxing watched the teachers around him applaud with pride and clapped twice himself.
Remembering the Old Professor’s instructions, he raised his phone and started filming Shen Yuxian.
Halfway through the speech, many teachers took off their glasses to wipe away tears. Xu Wanxing, with tearful eyes, continued to film.
Shen Yuxian truly had a magical power; when he spoke about the hardships of starting a business, he made everyone feel a shared sense of sadness.
“Actually, returning to my alma mater to speak, I also want to speak to one of my most respected teachers. Shall we invite him up?”
As Shen Yuxian’s words fell, many teachers turned their heads to look at Xu Wanxing. Xu Wanxing looked bewildered and quietly asked, “Who is his most respected teacher?”
“The Old Professor! Didn’t you come to record the video for him today? Then you go up in his place, record what Shen Yuxian has to say, and show it to the Old Professor later.”
“…Alright.” He’s sitting in the audience, but the trouble came from the sky. Now he had to go up on stage.
Xu Wanxing was unwilling a hundred times over. He has social anxiety!
The gymnasium was packed—that’s 2,000 people! He usually got heart palpitations seeing 20 people; these 2,000 people were going to scare him to death.
Standing on the stage, he finally realized how impressive Shen Yuxian was. The audience was a massive, dark crowd. If one person has two eyes, there were 4,000 eyes looking up, not including the staff and photographers.
Shen Yuxian looked at the young man who came up, raising an eyebrow in surprise. Did this youth look a little familiar, or was it his illusion?
“Senior Shen, hello. The Old Professor is sick and couldn’t come today, so I’m here in his place,” Xu Wanxing said, holding up his phone. “You can film what you want to say, and I can show the video to the Old Professor.”
Senior? This was an unusually respectful way to address him.
It reminded him of the little Omega he followed. If that Omega were here, he would probably be this lively and full of youthful energy.
Thinking this, Shen Yuxian developed a favorable impression of Xu Wanxing. His expression softened for a moment, and he asked, “Are you very close to the Old Professor?”
Xu Wanxing thought of his unspeakable love-hate relationship with the Old Professor and the 85-point exam requirement, and he nodded heavily.
“Then, how about I take you to see the Old Professor after the speech? I know where he lives.”
Xu Wanxing thought about it and nodded. “Okay, Senior. I’ll step down now.”
Rather than holding the phone on stage and filming Shen Yuxian’s speech for several minutes, it was better to agree and get off the stage immediately.
This was the heartfelt plea of Xu Wanxing, the socially anxious person.
Only after getting off the stage did Xu Wanxing feel his heart was his own again. It had been pounding so fast on stage that he was worried he’d developed a heart condition.
Not long after, Shen Yuxian stepped down. Seeing Xu Wanxing waiting obediently not far away, the image of the little Omega flashed through his mind.
They look so similar. If the little Omega didn’t have pink hair, he might mistake them.
Wait, he wasn’t as sweet, fragrant, or soft as the Omega, nor did he wear a puffy mini skirt.
Shen Yuxian strode over to Xu Wanxing. “Let’s leave after I have a quick word with the school leaders. It’s almost lunchtime, so we can crash at the Old Professor’s place for a meal.”
Hearing Shen Yuxian’s familiar tone, Xu Wanxing knew this was a true proud student; they were this close.
They didn’t wait long before Shen Yuxian led him to a luxury car that was different from Lu Yanbai’s.
Sitting in the car, Xu Wanxing felt no excitement; he was extremely calm.
He hadn’t seen the world before, but now that he had seen a lot, Shen Yuxian’s car was nothing special.
The car stopped shortly after. The area was full of old villas. It wasn’t far from Imperial Capital University, and the ten to twenty-minute drive was enough to suggest the property prices here were not low.
He probably couldn’t afford it in several lifetimes. It’s nothing, Xu Wanxing was used to it.
But curiosity still gnawed at him. “Senior Shen, how expensive are the houses here?”
“Ranging from tens of millions to hundreds of millions, I guess. Your Old Professor is a rich man.”
…Nani?
Xu Wanxing silently discarded his previous thought. This wasn’t several lifetimes; it was several dozen lifetimes.
University professors are all secretive rich people. Truly worthy of Imperial Capital University.
“What’s wrong? You think it’s expensive? You should foster a good relationship with the Old Professor. He can take you on his projects. Don’t let him fool you with just teaching Calculus; he’s incredibly good at his research projects. The research funding alone is this much.”
Shen Yuxian made a gesture with his hands, and Xu Wanxing’s eyes nearly popped out of his head in shock.
This wasn’t an Old Professor; this was clearly his Golden Nugget!
