- Chapter 105 - Are You Very Short of Money?
As for Lu Yanbai’s clothes, he’d temporarily put them in his basin and wash them when he returned.
Pei Yu sat at his desk drinking water, seemingly casually, but in reality, all his attention was focused on Xu Wanxing.
When Xu Wanxing entered the restroom, he stared at the restroom door. When Xu Wanxing came out, he stole glances.
Seeing Xu Wanxing come out carrying a basin, Pei Yu understood—these must be the clothes he had changed out of.
Hesitating for a moment, Pei Yu offered: “How about I help you wash them? I’m free right now anyway.”
Xu Wanxing quickly waved his hands: “No, no, no, there’s no need. I can wash them myself. Pei Yu, you’re so nice.”
He wouldn’t dare let Pei Yu wash those clothes.
They were Lu Yanbai’s clothes, after all.
If Pei Yu found out—no, if Lu Yanbai found out, his head would roll right off.
It would be a complete disaster.
Thinking from Lu Yanbai’s perspective:
Giving clothes to your partner to wear, and then your partner’s slightly intimate male friend (his roommate) washes them—how awkward and unsettling would that be?
Pei Yu simply “Mm-hmm’d,” his expression mild, his eyes betraying undisguised exhaustion.
He seemed completely unconcerned.
As Xu Wanxing left the dorm and passed Pei Yu’s desk, he thought for a moment and said considerately: “Staying up late isn’t good. Try to sleep earlier next time.”
Pei Yu nodded. “I know. Staying up late can easily cause sudden death, but I’m strong and healthy. I’ll be fine if I pull a few all-nighters.”
Xu Wanxing stopped walking and looked meaningfully at Pei Yu. “It’s exactly that kind of thinking that leads to so many sudden deaths. Good roommate, take care of your health.”
Pei Yu didn’t speak until Xu Wanxing had left the room, the latter’s words replaying in his mind.
What does he mean by that?
Is he saying I’m not healthy?
Pei Yu felt a bit indignant, wishing he could immediately run ten laps on the track to prove he was indeed strong and healthy.
Just as he stood up, he remembered Xu Wanxing’s words. Pei Yu sighed and went back to bed to catch up on sleep.
I wouldn’t want to actually die suddenly.
Xu Wanxing had no idea how much of a shadow his recent words had cast over Pei Yu’s mind.
He had already arrived at the bar.
In broad daylight, the bar was deserted, with hardly anyone around.
Most people who had partied or pulled all-nighters were probably catching up on sleep at home.
Xu Wanxing scanned the bar area but didn’t see Lin Yao. The sofas scattered around were also empty.
Did Lin Yao stand him up, intentionally tricking him into coming here?
Xu Wanxing walked a few steps further in, trying to get a better look, when a sudden force grabbed his arm and pulled him toward one of the sofas.
Xu Wanxing suspected he had run into trouble. He struggled briefly but the hand gripping his wrist quickly let go.
Looking over, he saw Lin Yao sitting on the sofa, his legs spread apart, his head leaning against the backrest. His demeanor was utterly languid, and his beautiful eyes and lips were stretched into an alluring smile.
Xu Wanxing realized he hadn’t seen this blind spot earlier, which was why he hadn’t spotted Lin Yao.
So, he was waiting here for me.
Lin Yao patted the space next to him, signaling Xu Wanxing to sit there.
Xu Wanxing sat down, but kept a considerable distance from Lin Yao, separated by about two palm-widths.
In bars, people usually sat with their legs touching and their bodies close, skin-to-skin. This overly normal distance was rarely seen.
Lin Yao shifted his butt toward Xu Wanxing. Xu Wanxing subtly moved farther toward the edge.
Things were slowly starting to feel off.
Xu Wanxing moved, and Lin Yao moved.
Lin Yao moved, and Xu Wanxing moved.
Neither of them would yield, until finally, Xu Wanxing was pressed against the corner of the sofa, with nowhere else to retreat.
Lin Yao’s smile was flirtatious: “Keep hiding. Why aren’t you hiding anymore?”
Xu Wanxing quietly shifted a little more to the side, half his butt hanging in the air, offering a perfunctory smile: “Haha, how could I be hiding?”
Lin Yao’s gaze swept over the edge of the sofa. He leaned back toward the other side. “Move in a little. Don’t fall off and hurt your butt.”
Xu Wanxing obediently moved in slightly.
“Why are you so afraid of me? I won’t eat you,” Lin Yao said, crossing one leg over the other and swinging it gently.
Xu Wanxing offered a polite smile: “Why call me to a bar during the day? There’s hardly anyone here at this hour.”
Lin Yao: “I was bored, I guess. I just suddenly wanted to call you out, so I did.”
As a playboy who had crossed through the field of flowers without a single petal sticking, Lin Yao understood very well that the person who falls in love first always loses the advantage.
He always thought he wouldn’t be that person, that he would remain the captain of the ship in any relationship, until he met Xu Wanxing.
Everything changed.
Everything spiraled out of control.
Just like his life.
He had been perfectly content as the behind-the-scenes power-broker. Aside from critically important documents, he usually had nothing to do, leaving everything to his proxy.
Until Lu Yanbai started causing trouble for no reason, his life became incredibly busy.
He used to just frequent bars, drink, party all night with handsome men and beautiful women, generally having fun, and occasionally dealing with documents.
Now, it had turned into dealing with urgent documents the moment he woke up, with endless work until he closed his eyes at night.
He was used to the good life. He didn’t want to live that hard, non-stop life for even a single day.
It wasn’t until recently that Lu Yanbai finally eased up on his harassment. He was finally free.
He spent seven days and seven nights enjoying himself at bars, sleeping in a hotel when needed. After seven days, he felt empty and bored again, wishing he could return to the daily working life he had just escaped.
He thought he was sick.
Why give up a good life to live like a workaholic dog?
The main problem was that when he was too busy, he was fine; he fell asleep the moment he closed his eyes. But when he was free, he had too much pent-up energy and suffered from insomnia until dawn every night, needing sleeping pills to get by.
Xu Wanxing’s image would also inexplicably pop up in his mind, which was extremely strange.
He was not the type to fall easily.
He thought that by staying away from Xu Wanxing, he could gradually forget that feeling. But that emotion was like a poison. The more he indulged, the more it surged, the poison already spreading throughout his entire body.
Unwilling to believe it, Lin Yao suspected it was just a false feeling because he hadn’t seen Xu Wanxing for too long, which was why he had arranged this meeting.
Xu Wanxing stared at Lin Yao for a few seconds, an expression of envy appearing on his face. “It must be great to be rich and have so much free time. If I were rich, I’d definitely just lie down all day and do nothing.”
“I’m not exactly idle…” Lin Yao thought of something and changed his tune. “Actually, you’re right, I am too idle. Handsome and rich people like me always have problems that ordinary mortals don’t.”
Xu Wanxing: That’s so humble-braggy…
“Are you very short of money?” Lin Yao asked.
Xu Wanxing thought about it. He really hadn’t done much live streaming recently. All he did was go to class, hang out with Lu Yanbai, go shopping, or play around.
He had virtually no income!
