- Chapter 10 - A Score of 85+ on the Calculus Exam? Dream On!
Thinking of the red mark on his face from where his phone hit him, Xu Wanxing quickly picked up his phone, took a selfie of his face, and sent it to Lu Yanbai.
“Husband, that was an accidental tap. My phone hit my face just now; it hurts so much, crying emoji.”
Lu Yanbai looked at Xu Wanxing’s face on the screen and immediately noticed the red corners of his eyes, as if he had been crying.
“Cried because you were hit?”
Based on his manly pride, Xu Wanxing was unwilling to admit it, but for the sake of the mission, Xu Wanxing had to reply: “Yes, Husband. The phone is naughty; it hit me, and it hurt so much.”
After typing, Xu Wanxing couldn’t help but lean against the bed and gag slightly. It was too disgusting! He couldn’t believe such words had come from his hands.
“Alright, go to sleep now. It’s late. Don’t you have class tomorrow?”
“Okay, Husband, good night, good night. Feeling wronged jpg.”
After sending a few cute pictures, Xu Wanxing closed his eyes contentedly and went to sleep.
It was so late, and Pei Yu still hadn’t returned. He had the entire dorm to himself, which was fantastic!
Pei Yu was like a refrigerator; it was freezing cold around him. Xu Wanxing, who could finally get a good night’s sleep, wrapped himself tightly in his quilt.
The Next Day
Sporting two dark circles under his eyes, Xu Wanxing rushed into the classroom. He had been woken up by the knocking and clattering from the next dorm room in the middle of the night and woke up too late in the morning.
Looking at the packed classroom, Xu Wanxing finally found an empty seat in the first row, right by the aisle, and quickly sat down.
As soon as he sat down, the teacher walked in. Before Xu Wanxing could let out a sigh of relief, he sensed a person next to him who was radiating a low-pressure atmosphere.
Xu Wanxing clutched the bun in his hand, secretly glancing at the handsome profile of the person next to him. His demeanor was unattainable, like a snow lotus on a high mountain; the whole person was like a high-altitude flower.
Especially that face—it was so handsome it provoked the wrath of gods and men, a masterpiece gifted by the heavens.
Handsome guys are common, but this was the first time he’d seen someone this handsome.
He and the protagonist shou (Lu Yanbai) weren’t the same type. This guy was purely handsome (紀容與 – Ji Rongyu), while the protagonist shou was glamorous and beautiful. Both were peak visuals in different categories.
Although the man was handsome, Xu Wanxing had an uneasy feeling that he seemed unhappy.
Was it because he was planning to secretly eat a bun during class?
But he hadn’t eaten it yet! Could this guy be a classroom monitor? If he reports him to the teacher, he’ll be in an extremely difficult situation.
The bun in Xu Wanxing’s hand went from scorching hot to room temperature, and his stomach was rumbling from hunger.
But there were still 60 minutes until class ended! What kind of university has classes that last 90 minutes and are back-to-back?
If he didn’t eat soon, he would starve to death.
Sitting in the first row, Xu Wanxing didn’t dare to speak directly to the high-altitude flower. He could only tear off a piece of paper, write a note, and pass it over.
Receiving the note, Ji Rongyu crumpled it into a ball without even looking and casually glanced at Xu Wanxing, shaking his head.
He had seen too many people pass him notes to confess their feelings; of course, he wouldn’t accept.
…Why is this person like this? So rude!
Xu Wanxing glared indignantly at Ji Rongyu, then tore off another piece of paper and handed it to him.
Before Ji Rongyu could move, Xu Wanxing pressed his hand down on the paper.
After clearly seeing the words on the paper, Ji Rongyu’s movement froze, and patches of red appeared on his neck. He gave Xu Wanxing an embarrassed smile, wrote something, and pushed the paper back to Xu Wanxing.
The note read: “Can I eat breakfast?”
The reply: “Yes.”
The last two characters were written in an unrestrained, forceful style, clearly showing the writer’s skill.
Xu Wanxing looked at Ji Rongyu in surprise. After receiving a polite smile, he lowered his head and took huge bites of his bun.
Finally full! He almost starved himself just now. It’s all because of this guy next to him.
He really is too considerate, having to ask permission just to eat a bun.
After eating his fill, sleepiness crept in. He hadn’t slept much last night, and today he was desperately tired.
Seeing the half-century-old professor enthusiastically lecturing on the podium without looking down, Xu Wanxing’s courage grew.
He poked the arm of the person next to him and whispered, “Keep an eye on the teacher for me. I’m going to sleep.”
Having gotten consent, Xu Wanxing closed his eyes and immediately fell asleep.
“Hey, student, wake up.”
Xu Wanxing dimly lifted his head to look at the person in front of him.
It’s the teacher?!!
The old professor was wearing a yellow checkered shirt and dark trousers. His eyes, behind his glasses, stared at him sharply.
Xu Wanxing instantly straightened up, all traces of sleepiness scared away.
“Teacher, w-what’s wrong?” he stammered out.
“You have the nerve to ask what’s wrong! Sleeping in class! Look around! Who else is like you? Young people not learning good habits! You’re in university and still can’t control yourself, sleeping like this in class. If you don’t want to learn, just drop out, okay?”
Xu Wanxing was taller than the old professor, but his morale was significantly lower. He apologized, lowering his head in embarrassment.
“What good is apologizing to me? Apologize to your parents! They work hard to earn money to send you to school, not so you can sleep in class! If you keep this up, I think you might as well drop out. I’m telling you, if you don’t score 85 on the written exam for this course, I will fail you!”
The old professor grew angrier as he spoke, his eyes full of disappointment.
In truth, he knew there were plenty of students who didn’t listen in university, but it was rare to see someone like Xu Wanxing sleeping in the very first row.
He took his wife’s anger out on him at home, and now he had to put up with students’ attitude at school! What kind of world is this? Xu Wanxing became his punching bag.
“I’m sorry, Teacher. I shouldn’t have slept in class. Actually, I don’t have parents, so I won’t be letting anyone down.”
The professor’s expression stiffened. He looked at Xu Wanxing in disbelief and sheepishly closed his mouth. “I’m sorry. My words just now weren’t intentional. I just want you to study hard. Studying hard is for your own benefit, child. You must be worthy of yourself.”
“It’s fine, Teacher. I will study.”
Xu Wanxing scratched his head, feeling a little awkward. Although he was an orphan, he didn’t like to use it to gain sympathy.
Looking at the words “Advanced Mathematics” on the desk, Xu Wanxing realized the situation was bad.
This course was a required course, not an easy elective.
And it was Calculus, the subject with the highest failing rate in university! The average failure rate for Calculus at his university was 60%.
His university was Imperial Capital University, one of the best in the country! Everyone here was either a top student or a top student.
He had no idea why the original owner was able to attend this school. Everything must be for the sake of the plot.
What did the old professor just say to him? That he needed to score 85 on the written exam to pass! What a huge joke!
If he had that skill level, why wouldn’t he have chosen mathematics as his major?
Thinking of using the professor’s sympathy, Xu Wanxing asked, “Teacher, could you lower that requirement a little? A score of 85 on the written exam is too difficult! This is Calculus, after all.”
The old professor snorted coldly. “If you study hard, why wouldn’t you reach 85 points? Words spoken are like water poured out; if you don’t score 85, you will fail. No discussion. Sit down, young student, and listen carefully to the lecture.”
Xu Wanxing sat down, watching the old professor return to the podium to continue lecturing.
He couldn’t help but poke the arm of the person next to him and whisper, “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
