- Chapter 14 - Taking An Ran as a Disciple
“Have you considered it?” Yun Su looked at Elder An, a smile playing on his lips.
Elder An thought back to Yun Su’s bizarre and unfathomable methods. The youth also appeared to be a master alchemist; although he had only caught a glimpse of that pill from a distance, he could tell it was extraordinary. He knew a few alchemist masters himself, but none of them could produce pills of a quality comparable to the one Yun Su had refined. It was not hard to tell from the events that had just transpired that Yun Su was a ruthless and vindictive person, and offending such an individual was truly unwise.
Elder An’s gaze shifted several times, and finally, gritting his teeth, he said, “Very well, Mr. Yun, I accept your proposal.”
Having said this, Elder An immediately looked toward An Ran. “Ranran, why haven’t you stepped forward to pay your respects to your master yet?”
An Ran’s eyes brightened. She immediately took a few steps forward to stand before Yun Su, knelt down, and said, “Disciple An Ran greets Master.”
Yun Su pulled An Ran up, a glimmer of genuine warmth finally appearing on his face. “Very well. From this day forward, you are a disciple of Yun Su. This is a small token for our apprenticeship.”
He extended two fingers and lightly tapped An Ran between the brows. A cultivation manual titled Xueyue Liuguang Jue (Snow Moon Flowing Light Art) instantly appeared in her mind.
An Ran’s pupils dilated in shock; she suddenly possessed a segment of memory in her mind that hadn’t been there before it was a cultivation technique.
“This… Master, this is too precious. I cannot accept it.” An Ran hurriedly took a step back.
Yun Su withdrew his hand and chuckled. “This is currently the most suitable technique for your constitution. As a disciple of Yun Su, you naturally cannot lack a decent cultivation manual. You must practice it diligently, understand?”
An Ran looked at Yun Su with emotion. “Yes, thank you, Master.”
She would definitely redouble her efforts in her cultivation so that she would not let down her master’s high expectations.
Hiss… A collective gasp of shock rippled through the surrounding crowd. A cultivation manual was being given away just like that? Young Master Yun was being far too generous! They, too, longed for a master like Young Master Yun they didn’t need much; all they wanted was for someone to hand them a cultivation manual so casually.
“Then what about the technique I practiced before?” An Ran thought of her previous manual and asked, puzzled.
“That trashy manual? Naturally, you won’t need to practice it anymore. Once you reach a higher realm, I will give you an even higher-tier technique. From now on, you will cultivate only according to the Xueyue Liuguang Jue that I have imparted to you.”
Yun Su looked somewhat disdainful. The An family’s manual was garbage the kind that no one would even bother to pick up if it were discarded in the Cangyuan Continent.
An Ran: “Uh… Disciple understands.”
Elder An, An Boyuan, and the other members of the An family who cultivated that very technique: “…”
The others gasped even harder. The An family had leaped to become one of the top families in Canglan City precisely because of this manual that Elder An had found by chance. Now, they were hearing Young Master Yun call that very manual trash…
Yun Su ignored their strange expressions and asked An Ran, “You took the Pei Yuan Pill just a moment ago; did you not get a chance to refine its power?”
An Ran nodded. “That is correct, Master…” After a momentary silence, An Ran glanced at the motionless Lu Fengxia lying on the floor; there were no other emotions on her face, only complexity. “She suddenly barged in, and I didn’t get the chance to refine it.”
Yun Su took note of the complex look on An Ran’s face, but he raised an eyebrow, unable to comprehend what Lu Fengxia had done to make An Ran such a young girl hate her so deeply; no, “hate” wasn’t even the right word. Even when seeing a complete stranger covered in blood and near death, most people would feel sympathy, yet An Ran felt none for Lu Fengxia. In fact, he could even see a trace of relief in her eyes.
Interesting! This little disciple he had just taken in seemed to be a girl with a story of her own. He loved listening to stories!
Yun Su suppressed the interest in his eyes. “Sit down and circulate the technique I gave you. I will help you refine the medicinal power.”
An Ran nodded and sat cross-legged. She began to silently circulate the Xueyue Liuguang Jue. At first, she found the mysterious mantras difficult to grasp, but after half an hour, the spiritual energy in the surroundings began to flow toward her. The gathering of spiritual energy was invisible to everyone except Yun Su.
Seeing that it had taken An Ran only half an hour to grasp the introductory chapter of the Xueyue Liuguang Jue, Yun Su was surprised. It was surprisingly quick to feel the spiritual energy of heaven and earth.
“Her comprehension is quite decent.”
With that, he sat behind An Ran and placed his palms against her back, channeling spiritual energy into her. Yun Su used his own energy to melt the medicinal power and guided it to circulate through her entire meridian system.
A moment later, Yun Su withdrew his palms, and An Ran opened her eyes. In an instant, the aura surrounding An Ran changed. Elder An and An Boyuan felt it most distinctly; they couldn’t help but widen their eyes, their gazes filled with disbelief.
An Boyuan: “Ranran, have you broken through your realm?”
An Ran stood up, her face full of joy. She had started practicing martial arts at the age of seven and had spent thirteen full years reaching the peak of the Yinyuan Realm, yet she had never been able to break through. And yet, her master had helped her break through with only a single Pei Yuan Pill. Her master was truly too formidable!
“Yes, Father, Grandfather, I have broken through. I’ve reached the Dongming Realm.” An Ran beamed, no longer resembling the icy goddess she had been before.
“Good, good, good.” Elder An said “good” three times in a row, showing just how happy he was. He was overjoyed; he had made the right gamble. This Yun Su was absolutely not as simple as he looked. Now that his granddaughter had reached the Dongming Realm, his An family possessed six Dongming Realm martial artists what did they have to fear from the Wang family?
“Hahaha, thank you, Mr. Yun, for helping my granddaughter break through.”
Yun Su gave a faint smile. “No need.”
“An Ran, your realm has just broken through and is still unstable. Do not rush to increase your cultivation during this period; the most important thing is to consolidate your foundation.”
“Yes, Disciple will remember.”
Yun Su was quite satisfied with An Ran’s attitude. The apprenticeship had been formalized, the gift had been given, and it was time to talk about his requirements.
“Now, let us talk about the Lu family.”
Elder An immediately replied, “Naturally. Please sit, Mr. Yun. An Ran, go pour tea for your master; fetch the tea leaves from my study.”
An Ran pursed her lips into a smile. “Grandfather, you usually never want to serve your best tea to guests. How is it that you’re willing today?”
Elder An shook his head with a laugh. “You girl, hurry up.”
“Understood.”
Yun Su sat down, while An Boyuan had the bodyguards take Lu Fengxia away to be locked up and had the servants clean the floor. Once everyone else had left, Yun Su finally spoke: “Since Elder An agreed without hesitation after only a moment’s hesitation, it suggests the An family’s influence in Canglan City is at least stronger than the Lu family’s. The concern you had earlier was likely the Wang family standing behind the Lu family, correct?”
At the mention of the Wang family, Elder An frowned, his expression turning serious. “Mr. Yun is correct. My An family doesn’t take the Lu family seriously, but the one I am worried about is indeed the Wang family.”
Elder An glanced at Yun Su and frowned. “The Wang family… they are not simple!”
