- Out of Control Overnight: The Irritable Top Alpha Goes Mad Searching for His Wife
- Chapter 26 - His Love Was Never Disgusting
Lu Shijun thought again of the trash who had spent a night with Shen Qing. Bitterness began to spread through his chest; jealousy was making him unrecognizable. He had to find a way to let his friend know that those so-called partners were all garbage.
Only he, only he was different.
Frustrated by his temporary inability to find the person, Lu Shijun considered a more roundabout approach. For instance, Lin Zhian seemed like a good target.
Shen Qing had no idea what he was thinking, but based on what Lu Shijun was saying, he became increasingly certain of a few things. If the events of the dream were to eventually come true, it meant he had misunderstood everything. If he still wanted to keep this friendship, he had to correct Lu Shijun’s perception.
“Lu Shijun, it is true that there are bad partners and terrible marriages, but,” Shen Qing spoke with difficulty. As someone harboring a secret crush, saying these words felt like pushing the other man away.
Perhaps because he had triggered Lu Shijun’s deepest, unwanted memories, Lu Shijun’s expression suddenly turned icy as he interrupted him.
“Shen Qing.”
“There are no exceptions.”
Shen Qing opened his mouth to speak but then lowered his head with a bitter smile. How could there be no exceptions? It was just that the exception was not him.
Shen Qing’s silence made Lu Shijun panic. He feared his friend would abandon him to start a new family. Admittedly, everyone has the freedom to start a family, but Lu Shijun did not want to grant him that freedom. He was selfish and paranoid; he wanted Shen Qing’s world to contain only him.
“Alright, let us drop this topic.” Lu Shijun did not dare to scare him for the moment, yet he could not resist testing the waters again. “Xiao Qing, talking about this so suddenly, surely you are not thinking of getting married?”
Shen Qing replied, “Not for the time being.”
These words did not make Lu Shijun feel relieved. Instead, because of that “for the time being,” his entire demeanor became gloomy.
“Is that so?” He feigned a casual tone, though his eyes were dark. “Then what kind of person do you want to find? When do you plan to look? Or,” he paused, almost failing to maintain his facade, “or, do you already have someone you like?”
When a person feels guilty, they are most likely to give themselves away. Shen Qing thought his secret crush had been discovered. In his panic, he accidentally squeezed some milk out of the carton he was holding. He hurriedly pulled out a tissue, but the usually calm Assistant Shen fumbled again.
Lu Shijun watched as the tissue slipped from his fingers and fell. The veins on Lu Shijun’s hand tightened around the steering wheel. The reality he could not accept made him violently irritable. Who, under his very nose, had stolen his Assistant Shen?
After two consecutive mistakes, Shen Qing finally calmed his inner turmoil. He should have denied it, but the words died in his throat. Suddenly, he did not want to keep lying to him.
“I do have a bit of a crush.”
He only told half the truth. He did not want to deny his own heart, but reality forced him to bow his head. This was a relationship with no future. Admitting it was the last bit of dignity he could afford this feeling.
His love was never disgusting.
Lu Shijun never expected to hear such a secret on an ordinary morning. He slammed on the brakes. The momentum nearly sent Shen Qing flying forward, but fortunately, his seatbelt protected him.
Shen Qing was startled. “President Lu?”
In that moment, Lu Shijun’s pheromones surged. The terrifying scent of Tequila blanketed Shen Qing. Although he was driven mad by jealousy, his face remained expressionless. “Sorry, I accidentally misjudged the green light.”
“Did I scare you?”
They happened to be at a crossroad where the green light was turning red. Shen Qing did not believe him for a second. The pheromones in the car were so dense that even a low-grade Omega like him could hardly stand it.
His medical report showed his pheromone levels were very low. It was for this reason that they had accumulated until age twenty-four before erupting. He rarely experienced a typical Omega heat, and even the effects of a temporary marking usually lasted only a day or two instead of a week. Because of this, he had not applied a suppression patch today.
But now, the concentrated Tequila exploded in the car. The terrifying pheromones made Shen Qing’s eyes moist. It was so stifling. At this moment, even breathing felt painful.
His chest began to heave violently. His pale hands gripped the seatbelt tightly, as if that were the only thing that could provide a faint sense of security.
“Lu Shijun, can we open the window?”
He feared he would drown in this ocean of Tequila. His tone had unconsciously taken on a hint of pleading.
Lu Shijun keenly noticed something was wrong. Thinking he was still sick and feeling unwell again, he reached out to check his temperature. But halfway there, his hand was swatted away.
Shen Qing truly did not dare let him touch him. He was afraid he would lose control and cling to him. If he really did that, the look of disgust from Lu Shijun’s eyes in his dream might appear in reality. That would be too pathetic.
“Lu Shijun, just open the window. Just the window.”
Lu Shijun’s face was grim, but he respected his wish.
It was late autumn, and the air was bone-chilling. Shen Qing was only wearing a shirt and a suit. The moment the window opened, the cold wind rushed in, helping him regain his clarity. Better yet, the car soon entered the company garage.
Shen Qing did not even wait for the car to come to a complete stop. He opened the door and ran out impatiently.
Lu Shijun’s gaze followed him closely. Every movement and every subtle expression was captured. He thought he could control himself, but after Shen Qing fled, Lu Shijun lost it. He reached his breaking point.
An expression of unbelievable fury appeared on his face. The Alpha, who was already imposing on a normal day, now had a terrifying aura of malice between his brows. His friend was trying to distance himself! This realization, with nowhere else to vent, caused him to slam his fist into the steering wheel.
On the other side, after running out of the car, Shen Qing felt the Tequila pheromones fade. Without the interference, the fresh air made him feel lucky to have escaped.
An Omega will submit to an Alpha; this was something Shen Qing had known for a long time. But knowing it was one thing; actually experiencing it was another. Shen Qing thought dazedley of that chaotic, uncontrolled night.
He clenched his fists tightly. His fingernails pierced his palms; the sharp pain helping him stay calm. He could not keep making mistakes.
Lu Shijun had not gotten out of the car yet, but Shen Qing could not worry about that anymore. Not wearing a suppression patch had been a terrible decision. He had forgotten that although he was a low-grade Omega, Lu Shijun was an S-class Alpha. He needed to find a quiet place to put a suppression patch back on.
“President Lu, I need to use the restroom. Sorry, I will go ahead.”
This was the first time Shen Qing had not waited for him.
Lu Shijun sat in the driver’s seat, watching him leave with a cold gaze. A terrifying smile slowly spread across his lips, and his eyes were like deep, dark tides, wishing to swallow Shen Qing whole.
“I am truly angry.”
Shen Qing was no longer in sight. Lu Shijun spoke to himself, his words filled with a sickly intensity.
“I will not let you leave me.”
