One Year After Her Sister-In-Law Was Widowed - Chapter 35.2
Xiao Shuangyu went out alone and saw an exquisitely dressed Omega approaching her with clear excitement. “Lenn, you’re here!”
Then she became a bit disappointed. “Ah, you’ve already changed your clothes. So, is Lenn without makeup and casual clothes? It’s a bit different from what I imagined.”
“Imagined.”
In everyone’s imagination, she was supposed to look like Xiao Mingyi.
Xiao Shuangyu’s heart sank a bit. She was certain she didn’t know this girl. She took a half-step back to put distance between herself and the Omega. “I don’t think I know you. Is there something you wanted?”
The Omega hesitated for a moment, then lowered her head and raised it again, speaking coyly. “I… I like you.”
Xiao Shuangyu only felt a dull bang go off in her ears, and she was instantly dizzy.
The Omega was completely unaware. “The way you play the drums is really cool. Every time I come here, it’s to see you. You… you look good even without makeup. Can you go out with me? I can give you anything…”
Xiao Shuangyu covered her face tightly.
The Omega seemed to take it as a pleasant surprise. “So, you agree?”
Xiao Shuangyu shook her head in agony, managing to squeeze out a few words from between her teeth.
“No… I’m sorry.”
Turning around, Xiao Shuangyu fled in panic, no longer hearing the Omega’s loud voice or the staff member’s intervention behind her.
She rushed into the restroom and couldn’t stop vomiting.
It felt so awful.
Awful, awful, awful.
Physiological tears spilled from her eyes. Xiao Shuangyu was trembling all over.
What was happening?
How could someone say they liked her?
No one was supposed to like her. No one…
Everything before her went dark, and the world seemed to be spinning endlessly.
It felt so awful.
Her mouth tasted bitter.
Her throat hurt.
Xiao Shuangyu vomited until there was nothing left to vomit. After dry heaving a few more times, she barely managed to support herself against the wall to stand up. She was so dizzy she nearly fell straight to the ground.
She staggered toward the sink, clumsily turned on the faucet, and scooped up water to splash onto herself repeatedly.
Layers of cold sweat broke out on her body. Then she heard a “buzz.”
Her hands were shaking—shaking so much she could barely turn off the faucet.
She hurriedly turned it off and rushed to grab her phone.
On the lit-up screen was a small sailboat.
Sailboat: When will Lianlian finish? It’s too late to get a taxi easily; I’ll come pick you up.
Patter.
Patter patter.
Scorching tears fell, blurring the tiny icon of the sailboat.
Xiao Shuangyu stumbled outside.
A-Nan and Nie Siyu ran toward her and were startled by her appearance. They rushed forward. “Lianlian? Lianlian, what happened to you?”
Xiao Shuangyu’s face and the hair at her forehead were soaking wet, but it couldn’t hide the large tears falling from her eyes.
Xiao Shuangyu was crying—crying silently yet intensely. She said in a muffled voice, “I want to go home.”
A-Nan and Nie Siyu exchanged glances. A-Nan immediately rolled up her sleeves and turned around. “Who bullied our Lianlian? I’m going to have it out with them!”
A hand grabbed her. A-Nan thought it was Nie Siyu. “Siyu, don’t stop me! I want to see exactly who it is!”
Xiao Shuangyu’s voice sounded. She said, “It’s no one. I want to go home.”
Nie Siyu grabbed both, one in each hand. “We’re going. I’ll call a taxi for you. Let’s go to the lounge first.”
Xiao Shuangyu shook her head. “I’ll wait outside.”
Left with no choice, Nie Siyu gave A-Nan a look. A-Nan had no choice but to head to the lounge first to get Xiao Shuangyu’s bag.
Nie Siyu stayed with Xiao Shuangyu by the back door to wait for the car. She wanted to say something but didn’t know how. Finally, she just said, “From now on, no matter who is looking for you, we won’t go see them.”
Xiao Shuangyu nodded, her tears still falling heavily.
A-Nan brought Xiao Shuangyu’s bag over. Hearing their words, she hurried forward to hang the bag on Xiao Shuangyu’s arm and patted her back. “Exactly, exactly. There’s nothing worth seeing.”
Nie Siyu hailed a taxi and pushed Xiao Shuangyu inside. Just as she was about to squeeze in, Xiao Shuangyu held the door.
Xiao Shuangyu wouldn’t let them get in, but her state was truly worrying.
Nie Siyu frowned and softened her tone. “Let go. I’ll take you home.”
Xiao Shuangyu shook her head.
A-Nan also followed up. “I’ll do it, I’ll do it. Lianlian, I’ll take you.”
Xiao Shuangyu shook her head again, her hand holding the door tightening its grip.
Nie Siyu had no choice but to let go. “Okay, we won’t go with you. Stop crying. Go back and get a good sleep. Don’t be afraid.”
Xiao Shuangyu nodded. Nie Siyu stepped back to help close the door. A-Nan shouted from the side, “If you’re scared, call us. We’re always here.”
The taxi took Xiao Shuangyu away.
A-Nan’s heart was pounding; she was completely sobered up. “Wait, wasn’t Lianlian just confessed to? Why was she scared into this state?”
Nie Siyu was also sober. She also found it strange.
In her clear mind, she suddenly remembered Xiao Shuangyu she had accidentally run into once—the Xiao Shuangyu who had vomited and turned pale because of a “compliment.”
Nie Siyu seemed to understand something, but something still fell off.
Xiao Shuangyu wasn’t a child who cried.
Nie Siyu had never mentioned that encounter with A-Nan, and she didn’t know either. She only let out a silent sigh. “Who knows. We’ll have to pay more attention in the future.”
Tonight’s celebration ended the moment Xiao Shuangyu stood up. Those who had sobered up had no mood to drink more, and those who hadn’t were already unconscious.
Never mind sobering up; Xiao Shuangyu in the car had almost lost consciousness.
She got out of the car in a daze, stood outside the door in a daze, and knocked on the room door in a daze.
Ji Zhuozhou opened the door for her. “Lianlian is back? I was just about to go pick you up.”
In her daze, her dried tears instantly began falling to the floor again. Xiao Shuangyu said nothing; she stepped forward and hugged Ji Zhuozhou.
Burning.
Ji Zhuozhou was startled and hurried to reach out and felt her forehead. “Lianlian, don’t cry. Lianlian, why do you have a fever?”
Scorching teardrops fell relentlessly onto Ji Zhuozhou’s shoulder, quickly soaking through a patch.
Xiao Shuangyu shook her head.
Alcohol, tears, high fever—every single one made Ji Zhuozhou frantic.
She had been perfectly fine when she left a few hours ago.
Ji Zhuozhou stepped back to bring Xiao Shuangyu inside. “Lianlian, be good. Let’s go to sleep, okay?”
She backed up step by step toward her own room. Xiao Shuangyu suddenly stopped her feet, refusing to enter the door no matter what.
Ji Zhuozhou couldn’t quite move her, so she could only soften her voice to coax her. “Doesn’t Lianlian like sleeping with Sister? We’ll sleep together.”
Xiao Shuangyu let go.
Xiao Shuangyu left her embrace, crouched down by the doorframe, rested her head against it, and closed her eyes. Tears still fell from her closed eyes.
Ji Zhuozhou couldn’t help but be stunned. She hurriedly crouched in front of Xiao Shuangyu and reached out to wipe away her tears. “Lianlian, don’t sit here. Lianlian, come with Sister.”
The tears were falling too fast; Ji Zhuozhou couldn’t wipe them all away with both hands.
Xiao Shuangyu held herself tightly. “I’m dirty. I’ll just stay here.”
Ji Zhuozhou’s brows furrowed slightly. “You’re not dirty. Lianlian is very clean.”
Xiao Shuangyu didn’t move, muddily wanting to bury her head into her knees. Ji Zhuozhou forcibly held her chin to stop her.
Left with no choice, Ji Zhuozhou could only continue to search for the root of the problem. “Why is Lianlian crying like this? Tell Sister, okay?”
“You would tell your sister, wouldn’t you? Tell Sister Zhuozhou too, okay?”
Xiao Shuangyu muddily opened her eyes. Tears filled her eye sockets. There was no sound of sobbing in her voice; it was just a heavy, muffled tone. “I would never tell her. She doesn’t like me. She only thinks I’m in the way.”
“Why did Sister have to marry her? She’s so annoying… so, so annoying.”
She looked at Ji Zhuozhou with blurry, drunken eyes. “If only Sister were my sister.”
“I want to be able to see Sister every day.”
She buried her face in Ji Zhuozhou’s cupped hands. “Only Sister…”
Her voice became increasingly slurred. “Only Sister would say she’s coming to pick me up.”
Tears fell rapidly into Ji Zhuozhou’s palms, bringing a burning, damp itch.
Xiao Shuangyu lost consciousness.
Only Ji Zhuozhou was left, holding out her palms, suddenly feeling a sense of peace amidst the silence.
So… it was disliked.
Was it… truly dislike?
Ji Zhuozhou’s deep green eyes shifted uncertainly. She cleaned up Xiao Shuangyu’s tears bit by bit, then stepped forward to lean the girl against her shoulder and worked hard to lift her up.
She led Xiao Shuangyu toward the room.
Her expression was hard to read.
