- On Her Wedding Night, She Transmigrated To The Aftermath Of Her Divorce
- Chapter 3 - I Miss You So Much
Three years ago, in 2022, twenty-year-old Yu Yan was busy enjoying her university life, holding hands and flirting with her “ideal type” seniors. She had no idea she was about to become a wedding sacrifice for her profit-driven mother.
She put up a fight for quite a while, resulting in her mother, Yu Lan, freezing her cards and cutting off her allowance. Eventually, Yu Lan, who had already coordinated with the Fu family to organize an engagement banquet without her daughter’s input, gave Yu Yan an ultimatum:
“Go meet her. I’ll give you three million just for the meeting. Sign the agreement, and I’ll buy you a flat on the Bund, plus a fifty percent increase in your monthly allowance. Otherwise, don’t expect another cent from me. Let’s see how long your little savings last you.”
Fine, fine, fine…
Yu Lan knew exactly what kind of person her daughter was and how to manipulate her. Yu Yan was a spendthrift, useless “rich second-generation” girl; she could lose anything, but she couldn’t lose her spending money. One meeting? I can do one meeting.
The meeting with Fu Yunqing was set at a cafe.
Yu Yan trudged up to the second floor, her face a mask of resentment as she scanned the room. Her gaze quickly locked onto a woman sitting by the window.
It was that transitional period between spring and summer. The woman wore an apricot-colored knit bodycon dress with a matching light cardigan draped over her shoulders. She sat with her legs crossed, neck slightly tilted, pulling a yellow-covered book from a nearby shelf. On her left wrist was a dark green jade bracelet. Her straight, raven hair, untouched by dye or perm, flowed smoothly down to her waist. As the sunlight spilled over her, she happened to glance toward Yu Yan.
Yu Yan froze. She quickly looked down at her phone to find the photo Yu Lan had sent her.
She usually ignored her mother’s messages, letting dozens of “red dot” notifications pile up before checking the latest one, and because she had been so resistant to the marriage, she hadn’t even bothered to look at Fu Yunqing’s photo.
She scrolled up a few pages, clicked the photo, and zoomed in.
Yu Yan’s eyes widened, and her heart instantly bloomed.
It’s really her!
Yu Yan looked back at the woman by the window. At a glance, she saw that “Sister Fu” had classic phoenix eyes, the outer corners tilted upward, brushed with a hint of reddish makeup. Yet, she didn’t look like a “fox”; instead, she carried an air of noble elegance and the gentle, composed aura of an elder.
What a goddess! What a goddess! Just one look from a distance, and Yu Yan was completely smitten.
Yu Yan cleared her throat, ready to make her move, but someone beat her to the table.
Yu Yan blinked. Did I get the wrong person? She stepped closer to investigate.
“I’ve been watching you for a while… Sister, you’re so beautiful. “Can I add you on WeChat?” The girl asking was roughly Yu Yan’s age, blushing and stammering. The woman declined with a polite smile, but the girl persisted. “I don’t mean anything by it, I just want to be friends…”
Usually, Yu Yan would be shy or nervous facing such a beauty, but seeing someone try to snatch her “wife” right out of the gate triggered a sudden burst of possessiveness. She walked over boldly and said in the sweetest, most polite tone she could muster:
“I’m so sorry, but I’m her fiancée.”
The cafe was located in the heart of Yuncheng’s bustling CBD. From the second-floor window, one could see the Yun River cutting through the city, its surface shimmering like scales. On the opposite bank stood a forest of skyscrapers, iconic landmarks of the city and the country. The cold, highly developed metropolis seemed softer in the warm spring sun, watching quietly as Yu Yan sat down across from Fu Yunqing.
Yu Yan was strikingly lovely, with a delicate nose, fair skin, and a healthy glow. Beneath her straight bangs, her long brows were elegant, and her “peach blossom” eyes were bright and lively. Her eyes and lips curved into a smile, and in her academy-style uniform skirt, she radiated youthful energy.
Her voice was sweet, a tone Fu Yunqing had never heard before. Having claimed the title of “fiancée” within seconds of meeting, Yu Yan now introduced herself with glowing eyes: “I’m Yu Yan.”
Fu Yunqing studied the girl for a moment, set her book down, and asked, “What would you like to drink?”
“A latte is fine,” Yu Yan replied.
Fu Yunqing signaled the waiter and ordered the drink. As it was their first meeting, and Fu Yunqing wasn’t naturally the type to drive a conversation, Yu Yan felt a rare wave of shyness especially after her bold entrance.
The ink wasn’t even dry on the deal, and she’d already called herself the fiancée. Would Sister Fu find that offensive?
After staring at her for a long moment, Yu Yan finally spoke up, blushing. “Sister Fu, you’re so beautiful. Your skin is so fair and perfect.”
It was the first time someone had addressed her that way. Fu Yunqing smiled politely and said softly, “You are very beautiful as well.”
So gentle.
“Um… what book are you reading?” Suddenly, Yu Yan ran out of things to say and blurted out a topic she wasn’t actually good at. Fu Yunqing turned the cover over, and Yu Yan’s heart sank; she’d never even heard of it.
“I just picked it up from the shelf to flip through,” Fu Yunqing said, sensing the girl’s embarrassment. She casually slid the book back onto the shelf.
So awkward!
The latte arrived, and Yu Yan quickly lowered her head to take a sip. Fu Yunqing looked at her and said, “Your mother said you seemed… unwilling.”
Yu Yan knew exactly what she meant.
Before this, Yu Lan had tried to arrange a meeting with the Fu family, but Yu Yan hadn’t cooperated, standing them up and vanishing. Yu Lan had been nearly catatonic with rage. The Fu family weren’t fools; no matter how much Yu Lan tried to hide it, she couldn’t mask the fact that her daughter was against the union.
Back then, Yu Yan had run off to the mountains to go skiing with friends. Thinking back now, she realized how ignorant she’d been.
“I’m willing now,” Yu Yan admitted, showing her lack of backbone.
“I didn’t know Sister Fu was this gorgeous and charming. I was wrong…” Her bright eyes sparkled. Despite her “good girl” looks, she spoke with a reckless, flirtatious charm, showing her instant obsession. “I regret it so much. Now… I am super okay with this~”
“Oh?”
Fu Yunqing’s voice was clear and warm, carrying a steadiness that contrasted with Yu Yan’s liveliness. She smiled at the girl’s words, though she found it strange. “Have you never seen a photo of me before?”
Admitting her mistake, Yu Yan confessed, “I was such a jerk. Sister, I’m sorry.”
Fu Yunqing arched an eyebrow. “And what if you had the wrong person? What if I wasn’t Fu Yunqing?”
Yu Yan pondered for a second. “In that case…”
“Then I wouldn’t want Fu Yunqing anymore,” she said, tilting her head with a hint of mischief in her eyes. She looked straight at Fu Yunqing and said heartlessly, “I’d just elope with you instead~”
“Heh…” Fu Yunqing lowered her head and let out a laugh.
Yu Yan thought her laugh was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen.
“Shall we… discuss the prenuptial agreement?”
“Mhm!” Yu Yan agreed. If a beauty like this wanted her to do something, she’d do it.
Fu Yunqing sounded a bit skeptical. “Are you serious?”
“Totally serious,” Yu Yan replied without hesitation, almost patting her chest to guarantee it.
And so, because of that single look from a distance, Yu Yan surrendered her stubborn resistance.
When she got home after the date, she felt a tiny bit of regret; it felt like she’d sold herself out on an impulse. But she understood her “past” self; to make a beautiful woman happy, she’d say anything. A little self-sacrifice was necessary.
Of course, she didn’t forget the important part, reminding her mother, “The meeting is done. We talked. You have to keep your word, send the money, and I get to pick the flat myself.”
In truth, while she hated to admit it, Yu Yan had been mentally preparing for a political marriage for a long time. However, as a young girl busy falling in love with women at school, she was never worried her mother would force her to marry a man. She knew Yu Lan looked down on men to her very core, believing they lacked ability and logic, that their companies were unreliable, and that they weren’t worth the investment.
Anyway, as far as Yu Yan was concerned, Sister Fu was perfect.
After doing some research, Yu Yan discovered that Sister Fu wasn’t just an heir to the Fu Group; she also taught at the Conservatory of Music. The Fu family had built their fortune on antiques; they were a family of refined scholars, and Fu Yunqing had been immersed in that culture since childhood, learning ancient instruments.
Gentle, polite, wealthy, talented, and scholarly. She was the literal sister of her dreams.
Even if there was no love in the marriage, that face would be a joy to look at every day.
She didn’t have any other choice, anyway. She was just a “useless bag” raised by her family; she’d be nothing without them. Yu Yan had enough self-awareness to know that.
Compromise was inevitable. Sigh.
The engagement banquet arrived quickly. Fortunately, it wasn’t a massive high-society gala where she had to fake smiles for everyone. It was just a dinner with Yu Lan and the Fu family.
Yu Yan was actually quite happy about it. By her second meeting with Fu Yunqing, she was even bolder. After greeting the elders, she sat down beside her and beamed.
“Hello, Sister Fu~”
“Good evening.” Fu Yunqing’s response was still calm, but “Grandma Fu” and the “Aunt” were delighted to see Yu Yan’s enthusiasm.
The head of the Fu family was Grandma Fu, a silver-haired woman in her seventies who remained elegant and poised. Beside her was Fu Yunqing’s aunt. Since Fu Yunqing’s mother had passed away early, the aunt had stepped into that maternal role. There was also a cousin also surnamed Fu who was only a year younger than Fu Yunqing. The moment Yu Yan walked in, the cousin began praising her beauty.
The aunt whispered to Grandma: “They seem to get along well. Yanyan is so sweet; look at how she smiles at Yunqing. She must really like her, right?”
Yu Yan was an expert at charming elders. “I like her so, so much!”
Yu Lan chimed in with a fake smile. “This child… At first, she didn’t even want to meet. But after one date, she came back and told me how wonderful Sister Fu is. Honestly…” Yu Lan was a great liar; Yu Yan had actually only asked her for money.
Grandma Fu chuckled. “That’s how it goes. You have to meet and spend some time together to know if you’re a good match.”
The elders chatted happily, and Yu Yan was in high spirits. She leaned in and whispered to Fu Yunqing, “Does Sister Fu like me back?”
Her voice was low; only Fu Yunqing could hear the flirtatious question, but the ever-composed woman didn’t answer. She remained perfectly dignified.
Ignored, huh?
Hmph.
Yu Yan wasn’t annoyed or embarrassed. She casually looked away and went back to entertaining the elders.
The food was served. Once Grandma Fu started eating, Yu Yan followed suit. The Fu family’s dinner was, unsurprisingly, filled with expensive delicacies. Before Yu Yan could even take a few bites, Yu Lan gave her a meaningful look.
Fine, fine.
Yu Yan used the serving chopsticks to pick up a piece of roast goose she’d enjoyed and placed it in Fu Yunqing’s bowl, playing the role of the perfect, attentive fiancée. “Sister Fu, this is delicious!”
“Thank you. You should eat more too.”
Seeing that she wasn’t being rejected, Yu Yan’s spirit was renewed. Perhaps being a “simp” for beautiful women was just her destiny. Before she was even a third full, she began peeling shrimp and scallops for Fu Yunqing. One, two, three… she peeled a whole plateful. Under Yu Lan’s approving gaze, she pushed them toward Fu Yunqing. “Sister Fu, have some shrimp.”
Seeing such a thoughtful young girl, Grandma Fu’s heart melted. “Yunqing, you should get some food for your ‘sister’ too. She’s barely eaten; she’s so busy taking care of you. You need to look after her.”
Yu Lan quickly demurred. “No need, no need. Yanyan is just like this; she just wants to make her sister happy.”
Her desire to “please her sister” was incredibly obvious.
Anyone could see it. Surely, Sister Fu saw it too.
Amidst the polite chatter of the elders, Yu Yan heard Fu Yunqing ask in a voice meant only for them, “Do you like crab?”
Yu Yan blinked. “I do.”
Fu Yunqing didn’t say anything else.
But Yu Yan was smart enough to catch the hint. She waited patiently. Sure enough, a moment later, a large crab leg expertly peeled by Fu Yunqing appeared on her plate. Shortly after, a small bowl of crab roe followed.
Yu Yan turned to look at her, but Fu Yunqing had already looked away, showing only her dignified profile.
Yu Yan didn’t mind at all. “Thank you, Sister,” she whispered.
Yu Yan ate quickly. Once she was full, she sat quietly listening to the elders. Of course, she couldn’t help but steal glances at Fu Yunqing’s side profile. She was truly stunning.
She spaced out for a bit until her phone started buzzing incessantly. She couldn’t help but check it, earning an immediate glare from Yu Lan.
Grandma Fu noticed and smiled broadly. “Don’t be so strict with the child.”
“Exactly!” Yu Yan chimed in.
Grandma Fu laughed. “If you’re bored, why don’t you have Yunqing or Mingya take you for a stroll? There’s a garden outside; the scenery is quite nice.”
Fu Mingya was his cousin. Compared to Fu Yunqing, her style was much bolder and her personality more flamboyant. Hearing this, she immediately waved her hands. “Let Yunqing go. She’s the fiancée I wouldn’t dare!”
“Do you want to go?” Fu Yunqing turned and asked softly.
Her gaze and tone were so doting… Yu Yan put on her “good girl” act and shook her head. “It’s okay~ Sister Fu hasn’t finished eating yet. I’ll stay here and keep you company.”
Who could be better behaved than Yu Yan? A subtle change crossed Fu Yunqing’s expression; she gave Yu Yan a reassuring look and returned to her meal. Across the table, Grandma’s eyes were crinkled with joy.
“A-po” (Grandma) seemed to be the local way of calling her. Fu Yunqing, like her aunt, had taken her mother’s surname. There wasn’t a single man at the table; everyone present was a relative from Fu Yunqing’s mother’s side, all surnamed Fu. Yu Yan felt incredibly comfortable.
She wondered if the Fu family simply had no men or if the men weren’t worthy of sitting at the table for family matters? The latter was fine, but the former was even better.
What a wonderfully non-patriarchal family.
Before leaving, she sat with Grandma Fu for a while. Grandma stuffed a massive red envelope into her hand, along with several priceless engagement gifts.
Yu Yan was over the moon.
“Goodbye, Sister Fu!” Before leaving, she shared her joy with Fu Yunqing, waving a sweet farewell.
Fu Yunqing gently said goodbye and told her to get home safely.
They had exchanged WeChat after their private meeting. Yu Yan didn’t restrict her “Moments,” showing her entire life to Fu Yunqing without reservation. But cold political marriages are what they are after the engagement banquet, Fu Yunqing immediately went on a business trip, and there was little contact between them after she returned.
They didn’t meet again until months later, close to the summer break. The wedding preparations were nearly complete, the prenup was signed, and she had to go with Fu Yunqing to register the marriage. In a few days, Yu Yan will fly abroad for the ceremony.
Those few months were… perhaps Yu Yan’s last taste of freedom? She felt a bit tragic about it but also held a sliver of hope Fu Yunqing probably wouldn’t interfere with her life afterward.
During those months, Yu Yan lived as she always did. She had classes, but most of her time was spent having fun. Her Moments were updated every few days with photos of bars and restaurants in other cities, drinking, clubbing, escape rooms, mahjong, and yachts. She’d lean on her friends’ shoulders and talk nonsense or ride shotgun in a friend’s sports car. She still hadn’t gotten her driver’s license, mostly because she was too lazy to learn; she had plenty of beautiful women to drive her around, anyway.
Late at night, she’d post selfies with abstract, funny captions of the quintessential useless, beautiful heiress.
There were also the usual minor dramas. She’d cooled things off with the “ideal” senior she’d been seeing. No more dates, and her replies were just “oh” or “ah.” After a period of coldness, the senior, unable to forget her, came to find her to define their relationship. Standing in a corner of the school track, Yu Yan looked down, kicking a pebble. Feeling a tiny bit of guilt, she sighed. “I’m getting married. My mom arranged a business marriage for me.”
“You know my mom treats me poorly. If I don’t marry, she’ll kick me out and cut off my money. Last time she froze my cards, I felt worse than if I’d died. Could you support me? I’m incredibly expensive to keep.”
Yu Yan was telling the truth.
She wouldn’t change for love; she couldn’t. She was heartless, she admitted it. She had flirted with countless girls since she was young. Being born to love women was just her fate. She’d “awakened” in primary school ignoring boys and spending her allowance on the pretty girls in class. One day she was a lackey for the cold, top-tier student; the next, she was the loyal follower of the girl with the bleached hair.
She forgot the “ideal type” senior as quickly as she’d forgotten Fu Yunqing.
It wasn’t until Yu Lan told her to bring her ID to register the marriage the next day that she remembered: Crap, I’m about to be a married woman. Would she never be able to be this wild again? Her moments were full of photos of her playing with beautiful women. Fu Yunqing must have seen them. She was a fickle woman who didn’t like being home; Fu Yunqing couldn’t expect too much from her.
It’s a business marriage. A marriage of convenience is fine.
That’s what she thought, and that’s what she grumbled about, but when she saw Fu Yunqing in person again, she instantly changed her mind with a burst of new affection.
Since registering the marriage was a major event, Fu Yunqing—as the “older sister”—had to take care of her and show her importance, so she drove to pick her up.
A black Maybach was parked at the villa entrance. Fu Yunqing was dressed in a black women’s suit with a white shirt underneath. Her long, straight black hair was tied back, her makeup was light, and her phoenix eyes were calm. Yu Yan knew she was gentle, yet she radiated an aura of cold, indifferent distance. So contradictory, so captivating.
Sitting there in the driver’s seat waiting for Yu Yan, she once again made Yu Yan lose her mind with attraction.
Yu Yan got into the car, stealing glances at her for much of the drive. While waiting at a red light, she couldn’t help but speak up. “Sister Fu, I missed you so much.”
“You missed me?”
After a two-second pause, Fu Yunqing’s fingers tapped the steering wheel. She looked ahead and said in a casual tone: “You seemed to have quite a happy time these past two months.”
She “missed” her, yet hadn’t sent a single message. What a lying mouth.
Yu Yan froze, realizing what Fu Yunqing was implying. Her smile deepened, and she pouted playfully, turning the tables. “Well, that’s because Sister Fu never posts any selfies on her Moments.”
“Hmm?” Fu Yunqing looked at her. Selfies?
“How can you ‘fish’ for me if you don’t post selfies?” Yu Yan said. “If you just ‘fished’ for me a little bit, I’d be your most obedient little fishy. I think about you every day. I’d like your posts, comment, and send you flowers, and say: ‘Wife, let’s get married!'”
