- On Her Wedding Night, She Transmigrated To The Aftermath Of Her Divorce
- Chapter 3 - I Miss You So Much
Three years earlier, in 2022, Yu Yan, then twenty years old, was still at university, blissfully unaware that she was about to be married off as a pawn in her mercenary mother’s business schemes. She protested vigorously, but Yu Lan cut off her allowance and froze her credit cards. Even worse, Yu Lan ignored her daughter’s objections and pushed ahead with wedding preparations, involving the Fu family, until the very last minute. Only then did she finally say to Yu Yan:
“Go meet her. One meeting is worth three million. Sign the contract, and I’ll buy you a penthouse on the Bund, and your monthly allowance will increase by fifty percent. Refuse, and you won’t get another cent from me. See how long your measly savings will last.”
Fine, fine, fine…
Yu Lan knew her daughter’s weaknesses all too well and how to manipulate her. Yu Yan was a spoiled heiress with no self-control, and she couldn’t imagine life without money. One meeting? Fine, I’ll meet her.
That day, Yu Yan met Fu Yunqing at a coffee shop.
Yu Yan reluctantly followed the address to the second floor, scanning her surroundings with a gloomy expression. Her gaze quickly settled on a woman seated by the window.
It was the transition between spring and summer, and the woman wore an apricot-colored knit dress with a matching light cardigan draped over her shoulders. She sat casually, one leg crossed over the other, her neck slightly tilted as she read a book with a yellow cover from the nearby bookshelf. A deep green jade bracelet adorned her left wrist, and her long, uncolored black hair cascaded softly down her back to her waist. As sunlight streamed in, she glanced up and met Yu Yan’s gaze.
Yu Yan froze, quickly lowering her head to her phone and searching through the photos Yu Lan had sent her.
She often ignored Yu Lan’s messages, sometimes letting dozens accumulate before glancing at the newest one. Her resistance to the arranged marriage made her even too lazy to look at photos of Fu Yunqing that Yu Lan sent.
After scrolling back two pages, she finally found the photo. She clicked on it and zoomed in.
Yu Yan’s eyes widened, her heart suddenly bursting with joy.
It really was her!
Yu Yan glanced at the woman by the window again. At first glance, she recognized Sister Fu’s distinctive Rui Phoenix eyes, their upward-slanting ends subtly flushed beneath her makeup. Yet she didn’t resemble a fox at all; instead, she exuded an air of refined nobility, radiating the gentle composure of someone older.
Sister! Sister! Even from a distance, Yu Yan was utterly captivated.
Yu Yan cleared her throat, eager to approach. But before she could move, another woman had already sidled up to Sister Fu’s table.
Huh? Did I mistake her for someone else? Yu Yan wondered as she drew closer. Only then did she hear—
“I’ve been watching you from over there for a while, Sister. You’re really beautiful! Can I add you on WeChat?” The girl who had struck up the conversation looked about Yu Yan’s age, her face flushed as she stammered her words. The woman smiled and politely declined, but the girl refused to give up, lingering stubbornly.
“I don’t mean anything by it! I just want to be friends…”
Seriously? Yu Yan thought. Just moments ago, she’d been shy and nervous about approaching such a beautiful woman. But now, faced with someone brazenly trying to steal her “wife,” all her shyness vanished. Her possessiveness flared, and she boldly strode over, forcing a smile and using the gentlest tone she could muster: “Sorry, she’s already engaged to me.”
The café was located in the bustling CBD of Yuncheng. From her seat by the window on the second floor, Yu Yan could see the Yunjiang River, which flowed through the heart of the city. The river shimmered in the sunlight, and across the water stood skyscrapers that housed many of Yuncheng’s—and even China’s—most iconic buildings. The ultra-modern city, usually so cold and impersonal, softened in the spring sun as Yu Yan calmly took a seat across from Fu Yunqing.
Yu Yan was strikingly beautiful. Her straight nose bridge, fair skin, and rosy complexion were accentuated by long, smooth eyebrows and expressive, almond-shaped eyes. Her eyes and lips curved into a warm smile, and she wore a youthful, academy-style short skirt.
Her voice was sweet and pleasant, a tone Fu Yunqing had never heard before. When they first met, Yu Yan confidently introduced herself as Fu Yunqing’s fiancée, her eyes sparkling as she declared, “I’m Yu Yan.”
Fu Yunqing studied the girl before her for a moment, then gently set down her book and asked, “What would you like to drink?”
“Just a latte, please,” Yu Yan replied.
Fu Yunqing signaled the server and ordered a latte for Yu Yan. This was their first meeting, and Fu Yunqing wasn’t particularly sociable. Facing such a stunning woman, Yu Yan couldn’t help but feel a little shy, especially after pulling off such a daring move earlier.
We hadn’t even scratched the surface of getting to know each other, and I’d already declared myself her fiancée. Would Sister Fu find this presumptuous?
Yu Yan stared at her for a long moment before shyly blurting out, “Sister Fu, you’re so beautiful! Your skin is so fair and radiant.”
This was the first time someone had addressed her like this. Fu Yunqing smiled politely and replied calmly, “You’re beautiful too.”
How gentle she is.
“Um… what book are you reading?” Yu Yan suddenly found herself at a loss for conversation and blurted out a question she wasn’t prepared to handle. Fu Yunqing flipped the book over to reveal the cover, and Yu Yan’s heart sank. She’d never even heard of it.
“Just something I picked off the shelf to flip through,” Fu Yunqing said, sensing her discomfort, and casually returned the book to the nearby shelf.
How awkward!
As the server brought over the latte, Yu Yan quickly lowered her head and took a sip. Fu Yunqing watched her and said, “Your mother mentioned you seem reluctant.”
Yu Yan knew exactly what she meant.
Before this, Yu Lan had already taken the liberty of arranging a meeting with the Fu family, but Yu Yan had refused to show up, disappearing without a trace. That incident had nearly driven Yu Lan to distraction. The Fu family members weren’t fools, and no matter how much Yu Lan tried to hide it, the truth was clear: her daughter had no desire for this arranged marriage.
Back then, Yu Yan had gone skiing in the snowcapped mountains with her friends. Looking back on it now, it was simply unbelievable.
“I’m willing now,” Yu Yan said, showing her true colors.
“I had no idea Sister Fu was so beautiful and captivating. I was wrong…” Her bright eyes sparkled as she gazed around, her innocent appearance contrasting sharply with her brazen words. She acted like she was head over heels in love with Fu Yunqing at first sight. “I’m so regretting it now… I’m totally down!”
“Hmm?”
Fu Yunqing’s clear, gentle voice carried a steadiness that stood in stark contrast to Yu Yan’s vivacity. She chuckled at the girl’s words, then found herself puzzled. “You never even looked at my photo before coming?”
Ah, not even looking at the photo of her potential match before showing up. Remembering her previous no-show, Yu Yan took the initiative to admit her mistake. “I was a real jerk. I’m sorry, Sister.”
Fu Yunqing raised an eyebrow. “And what if you’d mistaken me for someone else? What if I wasn’t Fu Yunqing?”
Yu Yan pondered this. “Then…”
“Then I don’t want Fu Yunqing after all,” she said, tilting her head with a mischievous glint in her bright eyes. She looked at Fu Yunqing with carefree boldness and sang, “I’ll just run off with my sister instead~”
“Heh…” Fu Yunqing lowered her head and chuckled.
Yu Yan thought she looked absolutely lovely when she laughed.
“Shall we discuss the prenuptial agreement next?”
“Mm-hmm,” Yu Yan replied.
If a stunning beauty asked her to do something, she’d do it in a heartbeat.
Fu Yunqing eyed her skeptically. “Are you serious?”
“Absolutely serious,” Yu Yan answered without hesitation, nearly pounding her chest in assurance.
Just like that, Yu Yan had thrown away her stubborn resistance the moment she’d seen Fu Yunqing from afar.
After their date, Yu Yan felt a twinge of regret, thinking she might have sold herself too impulsively. But she completely understood her past self—she’d say anything to make her beautiful sister happy, willing to make that sacrifice.
Of course, she hadn’t forgotten the more important matter. She reminded Yu Lan, “Now that the formal meeting is over and we’ve covered everything we needed to, you have to keep your word. You must transfer the money to me, and I get to choose the house myself.”
Truth be told, although she didn’t like to admit it, Yu Yan had been mentally preparing for this kind of arranged marriage for quite some time. But back then, when she was young and carefree, busy falling in love with girls at school, she never worried that Yu Lan would force her to marry a man. She knew deep down that Yu Lan despised men, considering them incompetent and narrow-minded, their companies unreliable, and their partnerships untrustworthy—simply not in her best interests.
For Yu Yan, Sister Fu was perfect.
Only after returning home did Yu Yan discover that Sister Fu wasn’t just an heiress to the Fu Group; she also taught at Yunxi’s music academy. The Fu family had made their fortune in antiques, a refined and scholarly lineage that had nurtured Fu Yunqing’s love for ancient instruments since childhood.
Gentle, polite, wealthy, and brilliantly talented—truly the sister of her dreams.
Even if their marriage lacked romance, Sister Fu’s stunning beauty would still be a feast for the eyes.
In the end, Yu Yan had no other choice. She was just a pampered freeloader who would be nothing without her family’s support. She knew that all too well.
In the end, compromise was inevitable. Sigh.
The engagement banquet arrived soon enough. Fortunately, it wasn’t a large social gathering requiring forced smiles for a crowd. Yu Yan only needed to share a meal with Yu Lan, Fu Yunqing, and the Fu family members.
Surprisingly, Yu Yan was quite looking forward to it. During their second meeting, she felt bolder and more audacious than the first. After greeting the elders, she sat down beside Fu Yunqing and grinned openly at her.
“Hello, Sister Fu!”
“Good evening,” Fu Yunqing replied, her tone as calm as ever. Grandma Fu and Aunt, however, were delighted by Yu Yan’s lively and enthusiastic demeanor.
Grandma Fu was the matriarch of the family, a woman nearing seventy with silvering hair, yet still radiating elegance and poise. Besides Grandma Fu, Fu Yunqing had another elder relative: her aunt. Since Fu Yunqing’s mother had passed away early, her aunt had taken on the role of a mother figure. Fu Yunqing also had a cousin, also named Fu, who was her aunt’s daughter and only a year younger than her. The cousin had been praising Yu Yan’s beauty the moment she arrived.
Aunt, seated next to Grandma Fu, remarked, “They seem quite close. Yu Yan is such a sweet girl. Seeing Yunqing smile so warmly, I can tell she really likes Sister Fu, right?”
Yu Yan knew exactly how to please her elders. “I love her so much!”
Yu Lan chimed in with a forced smile. “This child was so reluctant to meet her at first, but after just one meeting, she came back and told me she loved her, raving about how wonderful Sister Fu is. It’s really…” Yu Lan rambled on, but Yu Yan had only asked her for money.
Grandma Fu chuckled. “That’s how it goes, isn’t it? You have to meet someone and spend time with them to see if you get along.”
As the elders chatted happily, Yu Yan felt in good spirits. She tilted her head to look at Fu Yunqing and, feeling mischievous, whispered, “Does Sister Fu like me?”
Yu Yan kept her voice low, ensuring only Fu Yunqing could hear her ambiguous question. But the ever-polite Fu Yunqing remained silent, maintaining her reserved demeanor.
She’s ignoring me.
Hmph.
Unfazed by the slight, Yu Yan calmly shifted her gaze back to the elders, continuing to engage with them.
The meal was already set out. After Grandma Fu began eating, Yu Yan followed suit, tucking in without hesitation. The Fu family’s banquet was undoubtedly a lavish spread of rare delicacies, but before she’d even taken more than a few bites, Yu Lan shot her a meaningful look from the side.
Fine, fine.
Yu Yan used the serving chopsticks to pick up a piece of the roasted goose she had just tasted and found delicious, and offered it to Fu Yunqing, her behavior perfectly poised and considerate. “Sister Fu, this is really delicious.”
“Thank you. You should eat more too,” Fu Yunqing replied.
Seeing that her gesture was well-received, Yu Yan’s enthusiasm was rekindled. Perhaps being a woman’s devoted admirer was simply her fate. Before she had even eaten more than a third of her meal, she began peeling shrimp and scallops for Fu Yunqing—one, two, three… She filled a plateful and, under Yu Lan’s approving gaze, slid it toward Fu Yunqing. “Sister Fu, here are some shrimp for you.”
The sight of such a considerate young girl softened Grandma Fu’s heart. “Yunqing,” she urged, “you should also serve some food to your little sister. She hasn’t eaten much herself, but she’s been taking care of you. You need to take care of her too.”
Yu Lan quickly demurred. “No need, no need. Yanyan is just like this—she wants to please her sister.”
Her eagerness to please was indeed painfully obvious.
Anyone could see it. Sister Fu could see it too.
Amidst the elders’ rambling pleasantries, Yu Yan heard Fu Yunqing whisper to her in a voice only the two of them could hear, “Do you like crab?”
Yu Yan blinked. “Yes, I do.”
Fu Yunqing fell silent again.
Yu Yan, however, astutely sensed something. She quietly waited, and sure enough, Fu Yunqing soon placed a freshly peeled crab leg on her plate. Not long after, she offered Yu Yan a bowl of crab roe.
Yu Yan turned to look at her, but Fu Yunqing had already averted her gaze, leaving only her reserved profile visible.
Yu Yan didn’t mind at all. “Thank you, Sister,” she said.
Yu Yan ate quickly. Even after she was finished, the elders continued their meal. She sat quietly, listening, though she couldn’t resist stealing occasional glances at Fu Yunqing’s profile as she ate—she was truly beautiful.
Occasionally lost in thought, her phone notifications kept popping up incessantly. Unable to resist checking them, she immediately earned a glare from Yu Lan.
Grandma Fu noticed and chuckled warmly. “Don’t be so strict with the children.”
Yu Yan chimed in, “Exactly!”
Pleased by Yu Yan’s response, Grandma Fu suggested, “If you’re bored, why not ask your Yunqing sister, or Mingya sister, to take you for a stroll? There’s a lovely garden outside.”
Fu Mingya, Fu Yunqing’s cousin, dressed more brightly and boldly than her cousin, and her personality was equally bold. She immediately waved her hand. “Let Yunqing go. She’s the one with the fiancée—I wouldn’t dare!”
“Do you want to go?” Fu Yunqing asked softly, turning to face her.
Her gaze and tone were so indulgent… Yu Yan feigned restraint and shook her head. “No need. Sister Fu hasn’t finished eating yet. I’ll just sit here and keep you company.”
Who could be sweeter than Yu Yan? A subtle shift flickered across Fu Yunqing’s face before she gave her a reassuring look and turned back to her meal. Across from them, Grandma Fu beamed so widely her eyes nearly disappeared.
Grandma, Grandma… that’s what they call her in Jiangnan. It means “grandmother.” Like her aunt, Fu Yunqing took her mother’s surname. There wasn’t a single man at the table; all the guests were female relatives from her mother’s side, all surnamed Fu. Yu Yan felt completely at ease.
I wonder if the Fu family simply has no men, or if the men aren’t considered worthy enough to dine with the family or participate in important decisions? The latter would be admirable, but the former would be ideal.
What a fatherless family—yet it feels like such a wonderful one.
Before leaving, Yu Yan sat beside Grandma Fu and chatted with her for a while. The elderly woman slipped her an enormously thick red envelope and presented her with a collection of priceless engagement gifts.
Yu Yan was overjoyed.
“Bye, Sister Fu,” she said sweetly, waving goodbye with her usual cheerfulness.
Fu Yunqing replied gently, reminding her to stay safe on the road.
After their private meeting, they exchanged WeChat contacts. Yu Yan didn’t just limit their communication to messages; she shared her entire WeChat Moments feed openly with Fu Yunqing. But such is the cold reality of a business marriage: after the engagement banquet, Fu Yunqing immediately went on a business trip out of town. Upon her return, she barely interacted with Yu Yan.
They didn’t meet again for several months, by which time summer vacation was approaching. With the wedding preparations nearly complete, the prenuptial agreement signed, and the marriage registration scheduled, Yu Yan was set to fly abroad for the ceremony as soon as her vacation began.
These months—perhaps Yu Yan’s last taste of freedom? she thought bitterly. Yet she clung to a sliver of hope that Fu Yunqing wouldn’t interfere with her life after the wedding.
These past few months, Yu Yan’s life hadn’t changed much. She still had classes to attend, but most of her time was spent on leisure activities. Her social media feed was constantly updated with photos from bars and restaurants in different cities—partying, clubbing, playing mahjong, and cruising around in her friends’ sports cars (even though she hadn’t bothered to get her driver’s license yet—she had plenty of handsome chauffeurs anyway).
Occasionally, she’d post late-night selfies with cryptic captions, the epitome of a carefree, spoiled, and beautiful young heiress.
There were also some typical minor dramas. She’d grown distant from the senior student she’d been flirting with earlier. Their dates stopped, their conversations became perfunctory, and they both cooled off for a while. But the senior student, apparently unable to forget her, eventually took the initiative to approach Yu Yan and express her feelings, hoping to solidify their relationship. The two stood in a corner of the school playground. Yu Yan kept her head down, kicking pebbles, a hint of guilt in her voice as she sighed, “I’m getting married. My mom arranged a business marriage for me.”
“You know how my mom is—she’s awful to me. If I don’t marry, she’ll kick me out and cut me off financially. She actually froze my account once. Not having money is worse than dying for me. And you, Senior Student, could you possibly support me? I’m a huge spender.”
Yu Yan spoke these words with genuine sincerity.
She couldn’t change for love. She just couldn’t. She was heartless, and she admitted it. She’d flirted with countless girls since childhood. That’s just how it was for someone born to love women. She’d realized it in elementary school, never giving boys a second glance, and spending her allowance on gifts for the pretty girls in class. One day she’d be the devoted sidekick of the aloof, brilliant student, the next the loyal underling of the rebellious, trend-setting girl.
She’d quickly forgotten about her dream girl, Senior Sister, and truthfully, she hadn’t been thinking much about Fu Yunqing either.
It wasn’t until Yu Lan told her to bring her ID the next day to get married that it hit her: Oh no, I’m getting married. Would she never be able to be so wild again? Her social media feed was constantly updated with photos of her hanging out with beautiful women. Fu Yunqing must have seen it all—she was just an unreliable, flighty woman. He couldn’t expect too much from her.
This was just a business marriage anyway. A marriage in form only.
That’s what she thought, that’s what she resented. But when she saw Fu Yunqing again, her heart bloomed anew, and she changed her mind.
For such a major event as the marriage registration, it was only natural for Fu Yunqing, the elder sister, to pick her up and show her how much she cared.
A black Maybach was parked in front of the villa. Fu Yunqing was dressed in a black women’s suit with a white blouse underneath. Her long, straight black hair was tied back in a bun, and her makeup was light. Her phoenix-like eyes were calm. Yu Yan knew she was gentle, but she also radiated a distant aloofness. What a contradiction, yet so captivating.
She sat in the driver’s seat waiting for Yu Yan, completely mesmerizing her.
Yu Yan got in the car and stole glances at her for a while. When the light turned red, she couldn’t resist saying, “Sister Fu, I missed you so much.”
“Did you?”
After a two-second pause, Fu Yunqing pressed her fingertips against the steering wheel, gazing straight ahead, her tone calm. “You seemed to have been having a pretty good time these past two months.”
She missed Fu Yunqing, but hadn’t even bothered to text her. What a smooth talker.
Yu Yan paused, then understood what Fu Yunqing meant. Her smile widened as she playfully retaliated, “Well, Sister Fu, you never post any selfies on your social media.”
Hm? Fu Yunqing glanced at her. Post selfies?
“How am I supposed to fish for you without selfies?” Yu Yan teased. “Just tease me a little, Sister, and I’ll be your sweetest little fish, thinking of you every day. I’ll like your posts, comment, and send you flowers. You know, ‘Wife, let’s get married~'”
