Older Brother is Just Older Brother - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Port Mafia.
Mori Ougai suddenly snapped back from his work. He looked at the time displayed on the screen and murmured: “Dazai-kun and Nakahara-kun should be back by now, shouldn’t they?”
Elise did not answer Mori Ougai’s question. She just tilted her head and said: “Rintaro, aren’t you going to let Verlaine-kun know about this?”
Mori Ougai: “Rintaro wants to tell Verlaine-kun, oh, it’s just that Verlaine-kun needs to rest…”
Seeing Elise’s expression gradually become speechless, Mori Ougai immediately added:
“Besides, the Port Mafia has no intention of keeping it from Verlaine-kun! It’s just that Verlaine-kun is too important; ordinary troublesome situations don’t require Verlaine-kun to take action yet! Rintaro can handle it alone, oh!”
Mori Ougai’s words sounded very reasonable.
However, three minutes later.
Elise let out a wild laugh: “Hahahaha! Rintaro! Now it’s a super troublesome situation!”
Mori Ougai did not answer. He just stared at the black-haired, black-eyed youth in front of him—who was being tightly controlled by Dazai Osamu and Hirotsu Ryuro and was still looking at him expressionlessly—and fell into thought.
Mori Ougai was very smart, so he could gain a lot of information just by looking at the youth.
Combined with the intelligence from the research institute brought back by Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya, Mori Ougai felt he understood the youth before him almost completely.
But the more it was like this, the more Mori Ougai found it hard to believe—
That this youth, who had been living in an ordinary world before, would cause such a massive scene the moment he opened his eyes in the laboratory.
First, he killed all the members of the research institute, and it was a very brutal way of killing.
Then, he severely injured Nakahara Chuuya, resulting in Nakahara Chuuya currently being resuscitated in the Port Mafia’s medical department.
Finally, he activated the program using the detonation password he had forced out of the researchers and pressed it without hesitation, prepared to blow up the entirety of Japan.
Fortunately, Dazai Osamu appeared in time and used physical contact to stop it all.
Not only did he stop the youth from exploding, but he also made the one-time program that controlled the youth’s explosion completely invalid—the youth was free, and Yokohama was safe.
The price was that because Dazai Osamu interfered, the youth flew into a rage on the spot when he realized it was impossible to blow up Japan today.
Thus, while Dazai was still trying to distract the youth by saying, “I also want to die, but the ‘erasure’ caused by your ability can’t kill me, so sorry, I don’t want to be seeking survival in the sea then,” the youth reached out on the spot, ripped off the bandages on Dazai’s head, and in the next second, flipped them around to strangle Dazai’s neck, saying: “Fine, then you go die.”
The youth’s methods were blunt but effective. If Dazai Osamu hadn’t sensed something was wrong in advance and called in Hirotsu Ryuro and the Black Lizard members, the youth would have achieved a double kill by corroding Chuuya’s skin and depriving Dazai of air!
Mori Ougai, whose head throbbed just looking at the red patch of skin exposed on Dazai’s neck: .
Mori Ougai admitted Elise was right; he really didn’t know what to do with the youth before him.
But he was truly, very much attracted to the youth’s ability. As long as the probability wasn’t zero, he wanted to try to make the youth join the Port Mafia.
Recalling the two sets of strategies successfully implemented by the Port Mafia on Nakahara Chuuya and Verlaine, Mori Ougai deliberated and spoke in Chinese: “Jiu Li-kun?”
Mori Ougai’s purpose in using this as an opening was simple: to let the youth know that he was aware of his identity and was willing to accommodate him.
The effect was indeed good; Jiu Li immediately understood what kind of person Mori Ougai was.
Huo, a Japanese doxxer who speaks Chinese.
Jiu Li’s gaze toward Mori Ougai instantly became even worse.
However, his gaze was already very bad to begin with, so Mori Ougai didn’t immediately realize anything was wrong.
Mori Ougai weighed his words and continued: “I think you might have some misunderstanding about us.”
“You should know that the laboratory researching you relied on the Japanese official authorities, but this is my Port Mafia.”
Oho, and a Mafia boss.
Mori Ougai: “Although we are also located in Japan, we have no connection with the laboratory… You can hate the researchers, but that has nothing to do with our organization, does it?”
Has~no~connection~with~our~organization~ Using that to try and convince a test subject to let go of hatred. Going abroad is truly great; I even get to see a living Notre-Dame de Paris (a saint).
Mori Ougai was still persuading. He threw out an example similar to Jiu Li: “You should have met Nakahara-kun, right? Nakahara Chuuya, he has a similar experience to yours. But not long ago, with the help of the Port Mafia, Nakahara Chuuya completely destroyed the laboratory that researched him…”
What does it matter to him if Japan’s internal mess screws over its own people? Disgusting! Don’t want to hear it!
Mori Ougai finally realized something was wrong.
Because when he mentioned the Port Mafia helping Chuuya deal with the lab, the youth didn’t show a flicker of emotion; instead, his gaze became even more sinister.
Pausing for a moment, Mori Ougai spoke tentatively: “Jiu Li-kun? Do you think there is some problem with my words? If so, you can raise it now.”
Jiu Li did indeed speak, and it was sarcastic from the start:
“What problem could there be? It’s all my fault. As a mere piece of ‘Japan’s fuel,’ not only did I resist, but my resistance was too fast. I solved the people in the lab all at once, preventing the Port Mafia from helping me solve the lab and then demanding a favor in return to use me—what problem could you possibly have?”
Mori Ougai: …
Mori Ougai: ?
Specially emphasizing “Japan’s fuel,” he must have been called that by others before, right?
Who said Jiu Li was just “Japan’s fuel”? Who was that person?
While Mori Ougai was thinking and not speaking, the air gradually fell into silence.
Dazai Osamu took a moment to look at the completely fearless Jiu Li with an incredulous gaze.
Hirotsu Ryuro, whose mentality was usually good, couldn’t help his hand trembling because of Jiu Li’s frantic provocation of the BOSS.
Elise also realized the situation was more troublesome than she previously thought. Her expression gradually became serious, and she stood to the side and behind Mori Ougai.
Then, Mori Ougai made a move.
He sighed, his tone troubled: “Ah, let’s be blunt then. Jiu Li-kun, is there anything you want?”
“Do you want more detailed information about your experiment? Do you want information about the people above the laboratory? Or do you want money? Fame? Do you want—”
Jiu Li interrupted: “I want to go to your graves and have a chat with you, but unfortunately you aren’t dead yet.”
Mori Ougai: …
Mori Ougai took a deep breath.
Then, he countered expressionlessly: “No, it’s not that you want us all to die. It was one thing back at the lab, but now provoking me to my face, you want yourself to die.”
“Why? Because you think your wishes can never be fulfilled?”
“Let me guess, you want to go home? But with your current situation, going back is simply impossible. Your family members are all dead; you have no attachments in this world…”
Mori Ougai’s words were very piercing. However, to everyone’s surprise, what rang out along with Mori Ougai’s words was Jiu Li sarcastically imitating Mori Ougai’s inner monologue:
“I guessed right, didn’t I? That’s exactly what he’s thinking. As long as I give him a little hope of going home, he will always be obedient. I’m so smart.”
“Is it really okay? Can I really get free labor for the Port Mafia with just a few words? Of course I can, I’ve always operated this way before…”
Mori Ougai slowly closed his mouth.
He stared at the youth who was being threatened but pretended to be his inner monologue, speculating the worst of him. His forehead throbbed twice.
In the next second, Mori Ougai stood up abruptly: “Jiu Li-kun, it seems you haven’t taken anything I said before to heart.”
“Let me emphasize once more: we are a Mafia organization, and a Mafia organization with many capable users.”
“I am talking to you nicely like this out of pity. In fact, I could inject you with anesthesia and restart the research on you within the Port Mafia; I could also kill you directly and use the corpse you leave behind to clone a new, more controllable life; or worse, find someone with mental control abilities to read you, or inject you with drugs…”
These words were so terrible that Hirotsu Ryuro’s eyelids twitched violently.
While he felt it was a blessing that Nakahara Chuuya was still receiving treatment in the medical room, he subconsciously looked at Jiu Li, whose head he was pointing a gun at—
Jiu Li found that Mori Ougai’s speech was too dense for him to interject and continue pretending to be Mori’s inner monologue, so he shut up.
Right now, he was in a state of “the dead are slightly active,” his eyes vacant, sporting an attitude of “I don’t give a damn about you.”
Hirotsu Ryuro: .
He had to say, this subject’s mentality was truly good!
Mori Ougai continued: “But as long as you are willing to try joining the Port Mafia, I won’t do any of those things.”
Jiu Li shifted his butt. Under the wary gazes of Dazai Osamu, Hirotsu Ryuro, and Mori Ougai, he changed to a more comfortable posture.
He continued his performance of “I don’t give a damn about you.”
Mori Ougai forced himself to be calm: “As the BOSS, I am willing to guarantee that your life in the Port Mafia will be like everyone else’s. As long as you have a corresponding position, you can do corresponding things…”
“Mori-san.” Dazai Osamu, looking at Jiu Li—who realized Hirotsu Ryuro would be wary of his every move and was deliberately rolling his eyes around to mess with Hirotsu—directly interrupted Mori Ougai’s speech.
Dazai looked up and said sincerely: “I feel that although Jiu Li-kun looks fine now, he seems to truly believe that whether he agrees or not, you will do those things anyway.”
“If these words of yours don’t absolutely have to be said right now, how about—first change to someone from another country to introduce the current situation outside to Jiu Li-kun?”
Mori Ougai instinctively wanted to say it wasn’t that exaggerated. Even a Chinese person wouldn’t hate Japanese people that much; Yokohama even has a Chinatown.
Besides, he had seen Jiu Li’s files. Jiu Li is currently 16. He received a normal Chinese education through primary, middle, and high school, and had just been admitted to a decent Chinese university before the human experimentation. It was evident his intelligence and knowledge reserves were normal; he wasn’t an idiot who couldn’t tell what year it was.
But looking at Jiu Li’s state, which seemed exactly as Dazai described, and then thinking about those researchers’ experimental procedures that didn’t plan on leaving Jiu Li’s brain intact from the start.
Mori Ougai suddenly understood.
The researchers must have broken Jiu Li’s brain!
Jiu Li looks normal now, but in reality, his perception of time has become distorted! And because the laboratory was prepared for war, Jiu Li firmly believes it is currently wartime!
From this, Jiu Li logically concluded: Japanese people saving him either want to use him directly to fight China, or want to use him to generate profit and indirectly fight China!
Now his frantic resistance makes perfect sense!
Then it truly was necessary to find someone from another country!
After all, if this group of Japanese people here said the war had long since stopped and that there were many ordinary Chinese people on Japanese soil, Jiu Li certainly wouldn’t believe it. He would think this group of Japanese people were colluding to lie!
Dazai is indeed useful!
“Have Verlaine-kun come over… forget it, you guys take Jiu Li-kun to the basement.”
Mori Ougai sat back in his chair, his fingers tapping rapidly on the keyboard, sending most of the intelligence regarding Jiu Li to Verlaine in one go.
Pressing enter, Mori Ougai looked up again: “Go now. Once you deliver Jiu Li-kun to Verlaine-kun, you can leave.”
Hirotsu Ryuro was startled: “BOSS…!”
Mori Ougai interrupted: “Rest assured, Jiu Li-kun won’t cause any more trouble.”
Hirotsu Ryuro still felt there was a problem, but this was a Mafia organization; he could not disobey a superior’s order.
With the leader insisting, the silver-haired old gentleman could only grit his teeth: “Yes!”
Just like that, Jiu Li was taken away by Hirotsu Ryuro and Dazai Osamu.
Before being led away, Jiu Li didn’t forget to hurl harsh words at Mori Ougai: “You just wait and see!”
After finishing, he looked at the blonde loli beside Mori Ougai and continued: “You also just wait and see!”
Then he looked at the guards outside the door: “All of you just wait and see!”
Everyone: …………
Hirotsu Ryuro wanted to tell Jiu Li to speak less, but Jiu Li turned toward him and Dazai.
Jiu Li: “The two of you especially, just wait and see!”
Hirotsu Ryuro: .
Take back what I just thought.
The three of them left.
Leaving Mori Ougai alone to stare at the door closed by the guards outside, dazed for a while.
After coming to, Mori Ougai pulled up the surveillance for the basement where Verlaine was and said with a smile:
“Even if Jiu Li-kun left such words, as the leader, I must show sufficient trust in a future member of the Port Mafia shouldn’t I?”
The words were said that way, but Mori Ougai’s action of pulling up the surveillance proved that he didn’t trust Jiu Li, nor did he trust Verlaine.
Who Mori Ougai truly trusted was Dazai Osamu, who had silently consented to his method.
Mori Ougai knew Dazai. He felt that although Dazai always talked about wanting to die, he was actually quite keen on living.
Since Dazai didn’t voice an objection, there must be a way to ensure Jiu Li wouldn’t attack the Port Mafia.
Dazai Osamu did not let Mori Ougai down.
The elevator went all the way down.
Seeing that they were getting closer and closer to the basement where Verlaine was, Dazai Osamu spoke abruptly: “I killed 31 Japanese people.”
Jiu Li: ?
Dazai Osamu: “I killed 55 yesterday.”
Jiu Li: !!!
