Obsession Beyond the Wall of Courtesy - Chapter 102
As I looked around in awe, Cedric came over and spoke.
“I thought you didn’t have much of an appetite lately, so I prepared some famous dishes from the Kingdom of Rubir. You used to enjoy food from there before.”
There was a time when Cedric had prepared dishes from different kingdoms for my birthday. It seemed that the food I ate best back then was from the Kingdom of Rubir.
“Thank you. I didn’t even think of doing this.”
Cedric kissed my cheek and pulled out a chair for me. I sat down with a bright smile.
Just then, Vincent was eating beside us. When our eyes met, he smiled brightly and waved his fork. The nanny was helping him by cutting the food into small pieces.
Even though the food was unfamiliar, Vincent chewed it well and ate properly. I felt full just watching him eat.
After a few bites, Vincent shook his head.
“I’m done.”
He frowned as if he was getting bored. The nanny looked at me and smiled awkwardly.
“Madam, young master doesn’t want to eat anymore. May I take him upstairs?”
Since Vincent seemed full and didn’t want to stay longer, I nodded.
After Vincent left, Cedric asked,
“Did Vincent worry you this past week?”
His voice sounded casual, but it made my heart sink. Even when I read his letter, I was surprised at how well he knew everything. I had already felt the limits of trying to discipline Vincent on my own, so I didn’t bother to hide it now.
“Actually, Vincent kept sneaking into the library. He also skipped naps and stayed up all night sometimes.”
“Since when?”
“It’s been a little while…”
“I’ll talk to Vincent. If he worries you again, just tell me.”
I nodded. At least Vincent listened well to Cedric. Cedric didn’t even seem very strict. Come to think of it, Vincent had been obedient to Cedric since the day we came here.
Cedric stared at me without looking away.
“Do you like the food?”
I smiled and nodded. It was definitely different from what I usually ate, and it tasted good. Most of all, I liked that I was eating with Cedric like this. Of course, I used to eat with him before too, but today felt special.
It was nice to spend our wedding anniversary peacefully with Cedric. As our eyes met, Cedric gave a small smile and spoke.
“I wonder how you planned dinner.”
It seemed like he already knew, but I quickly called a maid over and whispered,
“Tell Madam Durtin I want the dinner decorated for our anniversary tonight.”
The maid nodded quickly and left the dining room. Cedric didn’t eat but kept looking at me. He rested his chin on his hand and just stared. He looked happy, but his eyes never left me. When I glanced at him, he asked,
“What made you think of preparing something for our anniversary?”
He seemed very curious. His bright blue eyes looked at me with interest. Maybe it was because I had never prepared anything first before.
Thinking of the past, I answered honestly.
“We didn’t get to spend our anniversaries properly before. Especially before Vincent was born…”
I felt regret thinking about those days we missed. Wanting to leave that regret behind, I continued,
“So I wanted to do it properly this time. You’ve always cared about me a lot…”
“I only need you.”
It was something I didn’t expect. Something only Cedric could say. When I looked at him in surprise, Cedric smiled and added,
“But I’m curious about the letter. You didn’t usually give me letters on days like this.”
I felt a little guilty and said as if making an excuse,
“But I said it to you often instead.”
Feeling shy, I looked at my plate.
“Said what?”
When I looked up, Cedric was staring at me with a strange smile. He probably wasn’t really asking because he didn’t know. His face was full of quiet anticipation.
I couldn’t avoid answering, so I quickly said,
“That I love you.”
There was a short silence. Embarrassed, I grabbed my fork and started eating. I couldn’t even tell if the vegetables in my mouth were cabbage or cactus. I just kept eating, grabbed a piece of meat, and finished the soup in front of me.
To wash down the taste, I drank the yellow water nearby. It was water with lemon juice and salt. It was perfect to finish the meal with.
Even after finishing everything and drinking the lemon water, Cedric’s gaze still stayed on me. It made me nervous, but I casually wiped my mouth.
“You’re done eating, right?”
I wasn’t sure what he meant, but I nodded without thinking. I was so full there wasn’t room for another bite.
Cedric got up and came straight to me. He leaned over the table to meet my eyes. His blue eyes looked deep, as if filled with desire.
“Just like earlier, I’ve been thinking about you all week.”
I felt the same. There hadn’t been a day I didn’t think about Cedric.
“Me too.”
Cedric smiled, and his breath came closer. Soon, his lips touched mine and a warm breath softly scattered.
He cupped my cheek and pulled me in by the back of my head. As I let out a breath, he gently bit my lower lip, and his tongue entered. Our breathing grew heavier. Then Cedric lifted me and sat me on the table.
I heard the sound of dishes breaking. I opened my eyes in surprise, but Cedric didn’t care. He just kissed me deeper, pulling me closer.
His tongue moved passionately, and our lips stayed locked until I could barely breathe. Eventually, he let me go for air—but only for a moment. Whether it was from before or because we hadn’t seen each other in a week, he didn’t stop. Our messy breaths tangled together.
Then, there was a knock at the door. Cedric didn’t even flinch. He wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me closer. My breath caught.
Knock knock. The sound came again. I finally came to my senses and pushed against his chest. Cedric slowly pulled away and let out a breath. His chest rose and fell quickly, his breath hot and wet against my face. Just the touch of it made my heart race.
But the knocking sound was hard to ignore. I finally said,
“I think someone’s at the door.”
Cedric looked at me, then leaned close to my ear.
“I didn’t hear anything.”
His breath tickled down my neck, making me tense up.
I definitely heard it.
As I looked at him in confusion, Cedric gave a small laugh and stepped back. He opened the dining room door and left. I blinked, still dazed, then looked down at the broken pieces of dishes on the floor. More had broken than I thought.
I quickly got down from the table. I must’ve been out of it while I was with Cedric. As I dusted off my dress and tried to fix it, the door opened.
I looked up to see Cedric walking toward me.
“Revril, I’m going to see Vincent for a bit.”
“Why? Is he sick?”
“No. I just haven’t seen him in a week, so I thought I should spend some time with him.”
“What about me? Doesn’t Vincent want to see me too?”
Cedric smiled calmly.
“You’ve taken good care of Vincent all this time, so I’ll take care of him today.”
“There’s really nothing wrong?”
“There’s nothing wrong, so just rest a little. Or you could write me a letter.”
It really seemed like Cedric wanted a letter. I had planned to write one anyway, so I nodded. I was about to leave the dining room when Cedric called out.
“Revril.”
Surprised by the sudden call, I turned around. He came over quickly and looked at me with a serious face.
“You’re just going to leave like that?”
“Huh?”
“Without even saying goodbye to me?”
“Oh, then… I’ll get going now.”
Cedric’s eyebrows twitched slightly. Wondering if I had made a mistake, I looked at him—and he leaned down and kissed my cheek. When I looked at him curiously, Cedric laughed as if he couldn’t believe it.
“A week ago, you naturally said goodbye like this. And so did I.”
I couldn’t say anything for a moment. That silence seemed to bother Cedric, and his brow twitched again.
