Non-Humans Want to Fall in Love Too [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 26
Ji Shijin, I Am
When Ji Shijin woke up from his nap, Shi Yan had not yet returned.
The division of time within the demon territory was the same as in human society. Ji Shijin pulled out his phone to check the time. There was no signal, but the clock should still be accurate.
It was five o’clock in the afternoon; he had actually slept for over two hours.
“Ancestor! Whoa!”
A tender, childish voice suddenly rang out from outside the wooden house. Ji Shijin followed the sound and spotted a pair of soft, white ears near the window.
The ears twitched, and a pair of claws appeared on the windowsill. A few seconds later, a complete little white fox scrambled onto the ledge.
“Ancestor, who are you? Why are you in Ancestor’s house?” The little white fox’s fur stood on end in fright when he saw a stranger on the bed.
Ji Shijin, clearly hearing a little white fox speak human words, was speechless. He blinked and replied, “Who is the Ancestor you are talking about? Shi Yan?”
The little white fox let out a sharp cry. “You cannot call the Ancestor by his name!”
He kneaded his paws on the spot, looking quite indignant. However, having never seen an outsider before, he was hesitant. Unsure of this person’s strength, he did not dare to strike.
Ji Shijin propped himself up to rise. Just as he was hesitating on how to get out of bed, the flower by his pillow suddenly glowed. A familiar aura swept in, and a man’s hand wrapped around his waist.
Shi Yan easily picked him up and tucked him into the wheelchair. He turned to the little white fox on the windowsill and said, “Come here.”
The little white fox stared with wide, blank eyes, unable to react. Shi Yan waved his hand, and a gust of wind carried the little fox to his side. Shi Yan looked down and tucked the terrified little white fox into Ji Shijin’s arms. “Hold him for fun.”
Ji Shijin looked down and stared blankly at the little white fox. “There is no need. He does not seem very willing,” Ji Shijin declined.
The little white fox jumped nearly three feet high. “Awoo! Ancestor, save me!”
“Be quiet,” Shi Yan said, tapping the little white fox on the forehead and telling him to shut up in a cold voice. He then asked, “I did not notify any foxes of my return. How did you find this place, hm?”
The little white fox guiltily flattened his ears. “Great-grandfather is always forcing me to study spells. I did not want to, so I ran away. Only by hiding here could Great-grandfather not find me.”
So, he had run away again today. He had originally planned to hide outside the Ancestor’s cabin for a while, only to be surprised by movement inside. He thought the Ancestor had returned, but when he climbed onto the windowsill, he saw an unfamiliar face and was instantly frightened into a bristling ball of fur.
“Ancestor, he has no demonic aura. I cannot guess what race he belongs to.” The little white fox’s ears drooped, but his eyes darted around as he stole glances at Ji Shijin.
Hearing those words, Ji Shijin froze for a moment. His first reaction was to turn and look at Shi Yan. He was very clever and realized almost instantly that the little white fox asking about his race meant the cub did not know he was a human. If humans had ever appeared in the demon territory, how could the cub not know?
There was likely only one possibility. Ji Shijin pursed his lips, unable to describe the feeling in his heart. “Shi Yan, you.”
Shi Yan knew what he was going to say and cut him off. “No outsider has ever entered the demon territory before. He is still young and has never been outside, so he subconsciously assumed you were a demon.” After saying that, he tapped the little white fox’s head. “He is not a demon; he is a human.”
“Huh?” The little white fox moved his ears blankly and said without thinking, “Then you are in trouble, Ancestor! Great-grandfather said we cannot bring outsiders in!”
Hearing this, Ji Shijin’s suspicions were confirmed, and a mix of emotions flooded his heart. It turned out that no outsider had ever entered the demon territory. Would Shi Yan have to pay a price for violating the rules to bring him here?
Ji Shijin voiced his concerns, and Shi Yan pressed a hand on his shoulder. “Do not worry. I will be fine.”
While Ji Shijin was asleep, Shi Yan had been outside setting up barriers and arrays. The array was not difficult, but it was extremely tedious. Even for Shi Yan, who possessed power beyond the limits of this world, it required significant effort and would take many days to complete. Thus, the little white fox who had run away from his studies was conveniently conscripted by Shi Yan.
“You stay and play with him. I will let you go back later,” Shi Yan coldly assigned the little white fox his task, and the cub did not dare to express his anger or say a word.
Having given his instructions, Shi Yan vanished again, leaving Ji Shijin and the little white fox staring at each other. Although the little white fox feared the unknown, he was young and full of curiosity. He sat stiffly in Ji Shijin’s arms, not daring to move, but his fox eyes were wide and round as he observed this human.
Ji Shijin looked down at the little guy. This was not a little fox manifested by Shi Yan’s transformation; this was a genuine fox cub. He thought for a moment, then hesitantly raised his hand to stroke the little white fox from head to tail, just as he used to do with Little White.
The little white fox’s eyes lit up. “This feels so good! Human, you are amazing!”
Ji Shijin smiled slightly and scratched under the cub’s chin, eliciting sounds of spoiled affection. The human and the fox soon became familiar with each other. The little white fox was young and lacked caution; he had long since thrown ancestral teachings to the wind and was playing happily with the first human he had ever met.
“Throw it further! I can catch up!” The little white fox held a small ball he had found somewhere in his mouth and handed it to Ji Shijin, directing him to throw it far away. Ji Shijin smiled and threw the ball like he was playing with a puppy, then watched the little white fox chase it and bring it back.
When a stage of his work was finished, Shi Yan returned with freshly picked fruit. The first thing he saw was the little white fox pouncing into Ji Shijin’s arms with the ball in its mouth.
Shi Yan said, “What are you doing?”
A pair of cool hands touched the back of Ji Shijin’s neck, making him shrink his neck involuntarily. He turned around and saw Shi Yan holding a small basket filled with fruits he did not recognize.
“Are you finished? I am playing ball with the little fellow. He hid his toys outside your house,” Ji Shijin replied with a smile, completely unaware that his tone was overly affectionate.
As he spoke, the little white fox returned with the ball again. Ji Shijin naturally opened his hands to catch the little guy as he flopped down like a pancake. Shi Yan lowered his eyes, his gaze darkening. He squeezed the soft flesh on Ji Shijin’s neck with some force, reclaiming his attention.
“What is wrong?” Ji Shijin felt that Shi Yan’s mood was strange.
Shi Yan looked down and rubbed his fingers. After a few seconds, he said, “It is getting late. If he does not go back, his parents will be worried.”
Understanding the meaning in Shi Yan’s words, the little white fox’s ears drooped. He nuzzled Ji Shijin’s palm unhappily. Shi Yan watched his movements with a heavy gaze. The fox tribe had a keen sense of smell, and right now, Ji Shijin was covered in the scent of the little white fox, which made Shi Yan feel quite unpleasant.
“You should go back.” Shi Yan moved his fingers, and the little white fox was lifted by the wind, drifting far away in an instant.
Ji Shijin watched the direction the little white fox had gone. Suddenly, his vision went dark. He was stunned for a moment, then pulled down Shi Yan’s hand that was covering his eyes. “What is it?” he asked in confusion.
“These are fruits unique to the demon race. Do you want to try some?” Shi Yan held out the basket. The fruits inside were glistening with water droplets. Ji Shijin curiously picked one up and took a bite. A look of surprise appeared in his eyes. “So sweet.”
The tension in Shi Yan’s brow relaxed. He pushed the wheelchair and turned back into the small house. “These are fruits filled with spiritual energy. Eating them will not produce waste; it will all be converted into energy the body needs. During this time, you can only eat these. They are very filling, so you will not feel hungry.”
Ji Shijin paused as he held a fruit, but he soon received Shi Yan’s explanation. He was to enter the center of the legal formation in a few days. Eating these now served to completely metabolize the impurities in his body and to adapt to a state of not taking in solid food.
“Are you not eating?” Ji Shijin picked out a round, beautiful fruit from the basket on his lap. When he looked up, he found Shi Yan holding a heavy piece of clothing.
Shi Yan draped the clothing over Ji Shijin’s shoulders while answering him. “The more powerful a demon’s cultivation, the smaller their need for food. I do not feel hunger, nor do I need to obtain nutrition from food.”
Ji Shijin nodded and withdrew his hand. However, when he saw the tassels on the coat at his chest, he froze. “The clothes are for me? But we are inside the house; it will not be cold.”
Shi Yan said nothing, silently fastening the buttons for him before leaning over to pick him up. Ji Shijin was used to it. He familiarly wrapped his arms around Shi Yan’s neck and rested his head on his shoulder.
“Where are we going?”
Shi Yan glanced at him sideways but did not answer directly. Instead, he threw out a hook. “At night, colorful fluorescent fish appear on the sea surface. Do you want to go see them?”
Ji Shijin naturally did. And so, they set off under the cover of night. Holding Ji Shijin, Shi Yan teleported several times, coming to a stop on a reef by the sea. Ji Shijin thought he would be placed on the reef, but after Shi Yan sat down himself, he showed no intention of letting go.
Shi Yan said softly in his ear, “Look.”
Ji Shijin instinctively turned his head. His gaze collided with a brilliant display of light on the sea surface. The dark blue sea was surging with waves, but within those waves, countless small fish swam through unaffected. Their bellies emitted glows of different colors from the inside out.
Ji Shijin could not help but hold his breath, watching them intently as they shifted into different combinations. When the fluorescent fish dispersed, the glow scattered into tiny points, like streaks of falling stars. This was a spectacle that an ordinary person would find difficult to see in a lifetime.
“Shi Yan,” he whispered softly.
Shi Yan heard him and tilted his head slightly. “Mm?”
The arms Ji Shijin had wrapped around his neck tightened as he leaned in and gave him a passionate kiss. The hand behind his waist suddenly exerted force, pressing his thin waist tightly against Shi Yan. Shi Yan unceremoniously accepted this dessert and actively pursued more.
This kiss was deeper and fiercer than the ones before. The sound of the waves nearby reminded Ji Shijin of where they were. The moans at the tip of his tongue were swallowed back with effort, leaving only a few fragmented sounds.
With the sky as their blanket and the sea as a silent witness, Shi Yan kissed him deeply. Ji Shijin belatedly noticed that his mood was off, but the hand pinning his lower back did not release him at all.
“Shi Yan,” Ji Shijin panted softly, his fingers stroking the other’s face. “You are so fierce today. What happened?”
Shi Yan realized that he was not as indifferent as he had thought. When he saw Ji Shijin interacting so intimately with the little white fox, the ripple in his heart told him that he cared.
“Ji Shijin, I am jealous,” Shi Yan said, pulling away slightly. He looked at him with heavy eyes, honestly expressing his feelings.
Ji Shijin was stunned. He never expected that one day this word would come from Shi Yan’s mouth. But after it was said, he felt that it should be this way. In this relationship, Ji Shijin was the only one feeling gains and losses. Since establishing their relationship, he had not dared to confirm how much weight he held in Shi Yan’s heart.
But just now, he heard Shi Yan say gloomily that he was jealous. Only love could give rise to such an emotion. Ji Shijin suddenly felt that all the sounds in his ears were very far away; only Shi Yan’s voice was clear. He threw himself into Shi Yan’s arms to hide his reddening eyes. His voice trembled, but his mood was one of joy. “Why would you be jealous? Is it because of me?”
Shi Yan gave him a definite answer. “Yes. It could not be anyone else.”
Except for Ji Shijin, no one else could make him feel this way, because the one in his arms was the person he liked and wanted to love deeply. A tear silently merged into the clothing on Shi Yan’s shoulder. Ji Shijin looked up, holding Shi Yan’s face in both hands. “Just because I played with the little white fox?”
Shi Yan rested his chin on the other’s hand, his posture incredibly obedient. “You were covered in his scent. I did not like it.”
The smile in Ji Shijin’s eyes grew even brighter. He pleaded for mercy when Shi Yan pinched the back of his neck as a warning. “I was wrong. I will pay attention to my boundaries next time.”
He was forced to say many more kind words, and his lips were rubbed until they were crimson before Ji Shijin was finally let go. He turned his head and panted softly, while Shi Yan’s breathing remained steady.
After Ji Shijin caught his breath, he leaned lazily in Shi Yan’s arms, facing the sea, watching the fluorescent fish swim back and forth. Until his eyelids grew heavier and heavier. Shi Yan’s shoulder suddenly felt a weight. He looked down and found that the person had already closed his eyes and fallen into a deep sleep.
Ji Shijin slept very peacefully. In a daze, he felt as if he were having a dream. In the dream, there were glowing waves and a familiar, warm embrace that he could not help but want to cling to.
