Chapter 7: Add! Me!
The new tables the boss bought were solid wood and very heavy.
As Xu Zhi helped put a table down, she saw an angry figure rushing over.
“I was calling you! You intentionally ignored me!” Qi Yaoyao said to Xu Zhi, sounding both angry and slightly wronged. She turned her head and glared fiercely at the other girl.
Zhao Chuchu was timid and backed up half a step.
Xu Zhi noticed that Qi Yaoyao seemed unhappy and asked, “Did the talk with our boss not go well?”
“Of course it did,” Qi Yaoyao said. But this reminded her that her mother already knew she had caused trouble.
Having sent bodyguards and paid for compensation, it was clear that her mother was only letting her off because her trip abroad was rushed, and she hadn’t had time to deal with her.
The more Qi Yaoyao thought about it, the more depressed she became, but she shifted the blame, feeling that Xu Zhi was responsible for most of it.
The rest, of course, belonged to that thug!
She would definitely go “say hello” to that thug properly when she had time.
As for Xu Zhi…
Qi Yaoyao looked at Xu Zhi.
Zhao Chuchu called out to Xu Zhi again, “Know Jie, shall we continue?”
Xu Zhi: “Mm.”
The two continued to move tables.
Qi Yaoyao hadn’t even warmed her seat yet. Seeing them get up again, she followed. “What needs moving? I want to help too.”
Xu Zhi turned her head. Her gaze shifted to Qi Yaoyao’s beautiful manicure. Those fingers were delicate and beautiful like spring onions; they couldn’t handle any heavy labor.
Xu Zhi: “No need, you’re a customer.”
“Customer?” Qi Yaoyao suddenly felt a little suffocated and hurt. She looked at Xu Zhi. “Am I still just a customer to you? KnowKnow, I thought we were already friends who’ve been through life and death together.”
What is this young lady calling her?
KnowKnow?
Xu Zhi’s mouth twitched slightly, but she replied calmly, “You can’t lift it.”
“Hmph, don’t underestimate me!” Qi Yaoyao ran forward, refusing to admit defeat, and tried to lift the table.
But the bar boss, relying on the blank check he could fill in, had ordered the most expensive, most durable solid wood tables, which were incredibly heavy.
Qi Yaoyao didn’t want to lose face and used all her strength, but the table didn’t budge.
She was incredulous and a little embarrassed.
Just then, Zhao Chuchu next to her couldn’t help but secretly giggle.
Hearing it, Qi Yaoyao’s anger instantly flared up. She glared over in shame and rage. “What are you laughing at!”
Zhao Chuchu was startled and quickly said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it.”
“If you didn’t mean it, did someone force you to laugh?” Qi Yaoyao was relentless, trying to use this to diffuse the embarrassment of boasting and failing to lift the table. She pointed at Zhao Chuchu. “Explain yourself clearly!”
Others nearby were starting to look over.
Xu Zhi didn’t want such a small matter to escalate. Knowing that this young lady was trying to save face, she spoke up. “This table is too heavy. No one can move it alone, not just you.”
Only then did Qi Yaoyao give a huff. She looked at Xu Zhi, hesitated for a moment, and asked, “Can you move it either?”
Xu Zhi: “I can’t move it either.”
Qi Yaoyao finally felt relieved. She looked at the server who had laughed at her and said, “You were laughing at me, and you couldn’t move it either.”
Zhao Chuchu glanced at Xu Zhi but didn’t say anything.
Seeing that things had settled down, Xu Zhi continued to move tables with Zhao Chuchu.
Qi Yaoyao followed them, saying, “KnowKnow, stop moving it. I’ll have my bodyguard move it. It’s so heavy, what if you get hurt?”
“Two people are fine,” Xu Zhi said. “This is my job.”
“What kind of job is this? It’s so heavy, men should be doing it.” Qi Yaoyao was indignant on Xu Zhi’s behalf. After a moment’s thought, she said, “I’m going to tell your boss!”
Xu Zhi said, “Don’t go.”
But it was too late; Qi Yaoyao had already run off.
In a moment, Qi Yaoyao ran back, bringing a tall, imposing bodyguard with her.
The bodyguard was tall, strong, and muscular.
He took off his suit jacket, rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt, and casually moved the tables that were too heavy for the girls to lift together. He seemed to handle them effortlessly.
Qi Yaoyao was extremely triumphant. She came skipping up to Xu Zhi with her hands behind her back.
Xu Zhi glanced at her, feeling a bit helpless, but didn’t say anything. She simply turned to tidy the wine cabinet.
During the destruction last night, one wine cabinet had been knocked over, and most of the red wine had been broken.
The new stock the boss ordered had arrived and needed to be placed on the shelves bottle by bottle.
Xu Zhi was busy.
Qi Yaoyao walked over. “Why are you doing this again? Aren’t you going to come chat with me?”
“This is my work time,” Xu Zhi said, setting the red wine bottle with the label facing outward. She picked up another bottle and reasoned with her. “Chatting with you is not my job.”
Qi Yaoyao snatched the bottle from her hand.
Xu Zhi looked at her.
Qi Yaoyao paused for a moment, helped her place the bottle of red wine on the rack, and then said to Xu Zhi, “Then if your boss asks you to chat with me, will that be your job?”
Xu Zhi: “…”
“You wait!” Qi Yaoyao ran off again after saying that.
Xu Zhi watched Qi Yaoyao run away. Qi Yaoyao was wearing a butter-yellow batwing knitted sweater over a white top, which emphasized her extremely slender waist. Below, her long legs were straight and fair under short denim shorts.
A fluffy crossbody bag bounced along with her steps.
Xu Zhi shook her head, pulled back her gaze, and continued working.
Then the boss arrived and pulled Xu Zhi aside to talk.
Zhīyīn Bar was located in the bustling downtown area.
Outside, neon lights flashed—a city that never slept.
Qi Yaoyao’s steps were light all the way. She quickly reached Xu Zhi, walking backward and looking at her. “Okay, your job from now on is to accompany me~”
Xu Zhi felt somewhat speechless. The boss was actually so greedy for money that he told her to accompany this young lady during work hours.
Fortunately, Qi Yaoyao was female.
If this were a man.
Xu Zhi would suspect she was “selling her looks.”
Xu Zhi watched Qi Yaoyao walking backward and kindly reminded her, “Don’t walk like that, it’s unsafe.”
“Mind your own business. I know what I’m doing~” Qi Yaoyao was utterly arrogant. Her beautiful, delicate eyes sparkled. She asked Xu Zhi, “What do you want to do next? See a movie or get coffee?”
“Isn’t that up to you?” Xu Zhi finished and checked her wrist. “I get off work at 8:30 PM. It’s 7:20 PM now.”
“One hour and ten minutes.” Qi Yaoyao snapped her fingers and decided immediately. “Then let’s go get coffee!”
On the way to the coffee shop, Qi Yaoyao asked Xu Zhi, “Who was that girl moving tables with you just now?”
Xu Zhi: “A bar colleague.”
Qi Yaoyao asked, “Are you two very close?”
Xu Zhi thought, Who is very close with a colleague, but also who gets along badly with one? She answered truthfully, “Just ordinary colleagues.”
Hearing her say this, Qi Yaoyao’s mood inexplicably brightened a lot.
The topic was dropped.
Qi Yaoyao looked at Xu Zhi again and said, “Actually, I came today not just to pay the bar owner, but also to thank you more formally. Thank you for saving me last night. I was a bit drunk last night and couldn’t thank you properly.”
Xu Zhi’s attitude was the same as before. She said, “No need to thank me. It was what I should do.”
Qi Yaoyao had thought that being so sincere and humble would surely earn her some good attitude from Xu Zhi. But unexpectedly, her response was still stiff, formal, and distant.
She was somewhat dissatisfied.
Qi Yaoyao: “KnowKnow, do you have a problem with me?”
Xu Zhi looked at her. After meeting those bright, deep eyes, she looked away. “Of course not.”
“Yes, you do! Otherwise, why are you gentle as a spring breeze with your colleagues, but merciless as an autumn gale with me!”
Xu Zhi: …
Xu Zhi didn’t speak. She put her hands in her pants pockets, wondering why this young lady from a wealthy and powerful background was bothering her.
They entered the coffee shop.
A blast of cool air-conditioning brushed over them.
The staff immediately welcomed them warmly.
Qi Yaoyao asked Xu Zhi, “What are you drinking?”
Xu Zhi: “Plain boiled water is fine. Do you have it?”
The staff member’s smile stiffened slightly.
Qi Yaoyao said, “Who drinks water at a coffee shop! Do you like sweet or bitter?”
“Neither.”
“Then let’s have cappuccino~” Qi Yaoyao raised two fingers to the staff member, her eyes curving in a smile, her pink manicure glistening. “Two cappuccinos, and please send extra milk over. We want to add it ourselves.”
“Understood. Please take a seat, the two of you. One moment.”
Qi Yaoyao led Xu Zhi to a seat. “The boss only said your English name is Know. What about your Chinese name?”
Xu Zhi didn’t speak.
Qi Yaoyao said, “Tell me, saying your name won’t hurt. How about this: I’ll go first. My surname is Qi, as in Qítiān Dàshèng (Monkey King). Qi Yaoyao. What about you?”
Xu Zhi looked at the young lady in front of her. After a moment, she said, “Xu Zhi.”
“Oh, so it’s Zhī Zhī (Know). No wonder your English name is Know. Is your Xu the one from Xǔ Nuò (Promise) or the double-person Xú?”
“The former one.”
“Alright~” Qi Yaoyao’s eyes curved in a smile. She propped her chin up with both hands, openly examining Xu Zhi’s features up close. The closer she looked, the less surprised she was that Julie was instantly smitten.
Thinking this, Qi Yaoyao suddenly remembered something and picked up her phone. “Oh, right, let’s add each other on WeChat.”
Xu Zhi slightly pursed her lips and looked at her phone.
The phone case, like her nails, was adorned with various flashy trinkets.
“What, you didn’t bring your phone today either?” Qi Yaoyao immediately looked at the motionless Xu Zhi with a hint of a warning, then deliberately emphasized, “It’s not for me. I’m getting it for my friend. The one who asked for your WeChat the night of my birthday.”
Xu Zhi said, “I don’t want to give it.”
Qi Yaoyao immediately asked, “Why?”
Xu Zhi didn’t answer, only turning her head to look out the window.
The traffic was bustling, and neon lights flickered.
She never thought she would have a day to sit so leisurely in a place like this, wasting time.
Qi Yaoyao saw Xu Zhi wasn’t speaking. She gently rubbed her phone with her fingertips and said, “Then…”
Xu Zhi was still looking at the street scene.
“Hey, Xu Zhi!”
Xu Zhi pulled back her gaze and looked at her.
Her expression toward Qi Yaoyao hadn’t changed at all, just like looking at the unreal city night view outside that didn’t belong to her.
Qi Yaoyao met Xu Zhi’s gaze, fidgeting with her phone in her hand. She said quietly and indistinctly, “Look, you said yourself that it was okay to give it…”
Although her voice was low, Xu Zhi heard it.
Xu Zhi asked, “What do you want my WeChat for?”
“What is WeChat for? Of course, to chat and share life.”
“But, are we close?”
Qi Yaoyao’s expression changed instantly. “Hey, what do you mean!”
Xu Zhi said, “We’ve only met twice.”
“No matter how many times!” Qi Yaoyao said domineeringly and angrily, “It’s your honor that I think highly of you and want to be friends! Others line up begging for my WeChat, and I don’t give it to them. Who do you think you are?!”
Xu Zhi thought, Then why are you asking a nobody for WeChat?
“Quick!” Qi Yaoyao thrust the QR code name card toward her, commanding in an imperative sentence: “Add! Me!”
Xu Zhi looked at the QR code on the phone, then at Qi Yaoyao. She pursed her lips and stood up. “I’m sorry, I’m going back now.”
Qi Yaoyao was shocked: “??!”
Qi Yaoyao angrily shouted to stop her: “Xu Zhi, you stop right there!”
Xu Zhi stopped.
Qi Yaoyao stood up, stomped past Xu Zhi, her beautiful eyes blazing like fire. She looked up and glared at Xu Zhi, saying, “Don’t you dare regret this! And besides, if anyone is leaving, it’s me. Hmph!”
With that, she grabbed her bag, turned, and left the coffee shop.
But she didn’t fully leave.
Qi Yaoyao rounded a corner and got into the car where her bodyguard was parked, then ordered him to drive back near the coffee shop.
A staff member enthusiastically brought the two cups of brewed coffee, blocking Xu Zhi’s path.
Seeing this, Xu Zhi had no choice but to ask, “How much is it?”
The staff member smiled and quoted a number.
Xu Zhi’s vision briefly darkened upon hearing it. She would have to work for a day at the bar for free, at least.
Xu Zhi said, “I didn’t order this coffee.”
The staff member maintained a polite smile. “But didn’t the two of you come together?”
Xu Zhi looked at the two nicely presented latte art coffees, sighed, took out her phone to pay, and then asked, “Can I get them to go? I’ll take them with me.”
“This…” The staff member hesitated for a moment, then said, “Yes!”
Xu Zhi carried the two cups of coffee back to the bar.
Qi Yaoyao immediately ordered her bodyguard to follow the car.
A moment later, Qi Yaoyao saw the female server walk out of the bar’s side door with Xu Zhi, holding the cup of cappuccino that was supposed to be hers, smiling happily and sweetly.
Seeing this, Qi Yaoyao was nearly driven mad. “Go! Head back!!”
The bodyguard quickly started the car. “Yes.”
“Wait!” Qi Yaoyao said again, “Call your colleague back and tell him to stop moving things. No, have both of you move all the tables and chairs back, and make them move them again themselves!”
Xu Zhi washed her face and pinched her aching arms. That young lady really was…
Ding. The food in the microwave was hot.
Xu Zhi’s thoughts were interrupted. She dried her face and hands and went to eat.
She hoped she wouldn’t run into her again.
She thought: Arrogant, self-centered, moody, temperamental, narcissistic.
In two words: “Trouble.”
Xu Zhi didn’t go to the bar for the next few days. Firstly, the bar renovation didn’t need her, and secondly, her mid-term exams were coming up, and she needed to review properly.
After the bar reopened.
Xu Zhi still asked the boss for three days off.
A week later, the exams ended.
Xu Zhi rode her bicycle to the back door of the bar after school.
Zhao Chuchu saw Xu Zhi arrive and immediately ran to the changing room, handing her a large apple.
Xu Zhi was momentarily stunned and looked at Zhao Chuchu.
Zhao Chuchu blushed, holding the apple out with both hands. “Know Jie, thank you for treating me to coffee last time. It was delicious. This apple is for you.”
Xu Zhi didn’t explain that someone else had ordered the coffee. “No need. Eat it yourself.”
She then changed into her uniform.
Zhao Chuchu clutched the apple, her expression dimming slightly.
After changing into her uniform, Xu Zhi saw her blocking the door and said, “Excuse me.”
Zhao Chuchu quickly said “Oh” twice, hurriedly moving out of the way.
Xu Zhi had thought that Qi Yaoyao might come back to cause trouble.
But she didn’t run into her all night.
That was good.
It was just a small episode.
Xu Zhi was fine.
Qi Yaoyao, however, was not fine at all.
Her mother had originally said she would be away for half a month, but she unexpectedly closed the deal early and returned from the US in less than ten days.
As soon as Qi Nan returned, she found her daughter throwing a pool party at home.
Looking across the pool, a dozen or two young people were running wild, and the backyard was a mess.
Sun umbrellas, music, aromatherapy, and various fruits and snacks.
Some had even brought their pet cats and dogs.
Seeing her mother return.
Qi Yaoyao, dressed in a sexy swimsuit, nearly fell off the lounge chair in shock. She quickly got up, wrapped herself in a large towel, tucked her tail between her legs, and called out softly like a mouse seeing a cat, “Mom, why did you come back early…”
Qi Nan didn’t like staying in such an environment. She turned and led her daughter back to the living room, her expression cold. “So idle? Aren’t your mid-term exams coming up in a few days?”
“I’ve already finished reviewing,” Qi Yaoyao mumbled softly, tapping the floor tiles lightly with her sandals. “My classmates said they were stressed about exams and wanted to relax, so I organized the party…”
Qi Nan was stern and poker-faced. “You’re like this because your study environment is too relaxed. I’m going to transfer you to Lihai No. 1 High School.”
Hearing this, Qi Yaoyao’s eyes widened. “Mom, are you serious? I don’t want to!”
Qi Nan looked at her.
Qi Yaoyao pouted appropriately, reaching out to tug on her mother’s suit jacket sleeve. “Mom~ Who transfers schools during graduation season? And No. 1 High School, at that. I heard everyone there are just bookworms. I don’t want to go there. I’ll go crazy.”
Qi Nan looked at her daughter, seemed to think for a moment, and dismissed the idea.
Seeing that her mother wasn’t insisting, Qi Yaoyao carefully watched her and asked, “Mom, did your business trip go smoothly this time?”
“Mm.”
“I knew it.” Qi Yaoyao smiled, hugging her arm and praising her. “Mom is so amazing! There’s no contract you can’t close!”
Although Qi Nan didn’t like her daughter’s fawning flattery, her expression softened a little. “End the party early. I want to see the house restored to its original state when I return.”
Qi Yaoyao raised her hand in a salute. “Yes! My Queen!”
Watching her mother leave, Qi Yaoyao immediately ran back to the pool and told everyone the party was over.
Everyone felt very disappointed.
But remembering that it was Qi Yaoyao’s mother, they didn’t dare to make a fuss and helped clean up the mess.
After finishing most of the cleanup, they left the rest to the Qi family servants.
Others went home.
Qi Yaoyao took Julie and Du Yangfang to her bedroom.
Qi Yaoyao sat cross-legged on the bed, hugging a plush cushion, and complained, “My mom is crazy! She actually wants to transfer me to No. 1 High School!”
“No. 1 High School?” Julie said, “Isn’t that a key high school?”
Qi Yaoyao: “Exactly! My mom said my exams were too easy and she wants to put some pressure on me. But I score first place every time! That’s just my capability, shouldn’t she be proud?”
After complaining, Qi Yaoyao felt strange. “It’s odd, my mom has never said anything like that before. Why, after seeing me host a party at home, is she thinking of sending me to a place like that? Did someone say something to her?”
Du Yangfang asked, “Has Auntie already decided?”
Qi Yaoyao: “No, she seemed to just mention it casually. But that’s still strange.”
Du Yangfang said, “Maybe she just wanted to scare you. She was probably in a bad mood, saw you being unproductive, and spoke impulsively. Parents are all like that. My parents don’t like seeing me play all day and are always looking for something for me to do.”
Julie saw the atmosphere wasn’t right and excitedly suggested, “Let’s not stay home. Let’s go to the bar?”
Hearing the word “bar,” Qi Yaoyao was instantly contrary. She immediately said, “I don’t want to go!!”
The other two simultaneously asked, “Why?”
8:00 PM.
Qi Yaoyao, Du Yangfang, and Julie, all elaborately dressed and attracting the attention of many passersby, walked into the entrance of Zhīyīn Bar together.
